00:00 In the face of the greater threat in the form of climate change, the urgent adoption of
00:10 sustainable practices is paramount.
00:13 The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, or COSIA, serves
00:18 as an important framework for the aviation industry's green transition.
00:23 Regulators, however, must foster an environment that both champions and expedites is effective
00:29 implementation.
00:30 It is our collective responsibility to ensure that aviation evolves sustainably, efficiently
00:37 and safely, goals that Malaysia is deeply committed to.
00:41 I would like to take this opportunity today to applaud the efforts of your host today,
00:48 the Malaysia Airports, which has been at the forefront of sustainable practices.
00:54 Among the initiatives include the production of solar power at various key airports and
00:58 their achievement in renewing KYA's Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation by Airports
01:05 Council International.
01:07 This demonstrates their dedication to transitioning towards a sustainable, low-carbon future within
01:13 the aviation industry.
01:16 Our goal is to address the pressing issue of carbon emissions while positioning Malaysia
01:21 as a hub for sustainable aviation solutions.
01:24 We recognise that this will require collaboration, investment in research and development, and
01:30 incentive to boost the production and adoption of sustainable aviation fuel.
01:37 Our vision for the Malaysian aviation sector is deeply rooted in sustainability.
01:42 It is outlined in the National Transport Policy 2019-2030, which emphasises the efficient
01:49 and sustainable use of resources while minimising environmental pollution.
01:55 We understand the pressing need to reduce our carbon footprint and promote a greener
02:00 future.
02:02 We are dedicated to this cause and are actively working towards sustainable practices and
02:07 solutions.
02:09 Malaysia is privileged to host this prestigious summit, particularly during this very critical
02:14 juncture.
02:15 We recognise the importance of such gatherings in advancing our shared goals in the aviation
02:20 sector.
02:21 I am also pleased to share that we will be organising the Visit Malaysia Year in 2026.
02:29 Its success will depend on a robust aviation network.
02:33 I look forward to having more flights and connectivity between Malaysia and the region.
02:38 At the same time, it is important that we lay the groundwork to ensure the expansion
02:44 that will be done sustainably.
02:47 I am confident that KAPA Asia Aviation Summit 2023 will be a milestone event, and the knowledge
02:53 gained here will shape the future of aviation in our region.
02:57 Once again, I would like to welcome all of you to Malaysia, and hope that you will have
03:02 a good and enjoyable stay here in Malaysia, and hope that you can stay here longer for
03:07 your holidays.
03:08 Thank you, and may we have a productive and successful summit.
03:11 [Applause]
