00:02 Environment agency bosses say that dredging waterways may not be the most efficient ways to protect vulnerable areas of Derbyshire that have been struck by recent flooding.
00:11 The possibility of dredging Derbyshire's waterways has surfaced following the Government's announcement that financial support from its Flood Recovery Framework scheme is to be made available through various support projects.
00:23 Some residents in the worst affected areas have suggested that if nearby rivers had been dredged, their homes and businesses may not have flooded.
00:30 This includes the owner of a Chesterfield Antiques Centre which was submerged in 5 feet of water during Storm Bobette and who has now called for the River Rother to be dredged.
00:40 The Environment Agency has stated that dredging and desilting rivers can be effective when used with other flood risk management measures.
00:48 But they are not always the most efficient way of reducing flood risks and can actually increase flood risks for downstream communities.
00:55 A trip to Chatsworth is a festive tradition for many Derbyshire residents.
01:00 This year's Christmas events have started at the weekend and run through until January.
01:05 The theme is the Palace of Advent which takes the familiar idea of the December calendar and spreads it across 24 rooms, each filled with different sights, sounds and scents of the season.
01:17 Visitor Experience Manager Paul Hayes said,
01:19 "We've set out to create a sense of wonder for adults and children alike as they journey through the house and garden, and we invite everyone to become immersed in and contribute to the displays.
01:29 Christmas is a magical time at Chatsworth and we can't wait to share the Palace of Advent."
01:33 The spirit of Christmas spills out into the garden where an illuminated light and sound trail will enhance some of the estate's best loved landmarks.
01:42 The 24 stone steps of the historic Cascade Water feature will be transformed into an illuminated and interactive musical instrument that visitors can play, the giant keys lighting up to the sound of handbells.
01:52 And the light trail culminates in a dazzling light show that turns the house into a giant animated Advent calendar with a series of scenes projected across 24 windows, courtesy of Derbyshire Digital Artists Illuminati.
02:05 This year the theme is Palace of Advent, which we've been playing around with for a while with the idea.
02:12 Chatsworth has a nickname of Palace of the Peaks which sort of started the idea I think.
02:17 There are 24 rooms on the route and we have 24 windows looking over the south lawn, so it is perfect for an Advent calendar.
02:24 So that's really where the idea came from.
02:29 We're moving on, I think I've got as far as Christmas 2025 now, so we've got working titles there.
02:35 And I start buying for next year in about a week.
02:39 We open for Christmas on Saturday.
02:43 Really exciting for me, this has been kind of held in my head for about a year.
02:48 So to see it finally released and get the feedback from the public, I quite often snoop on the route on opening Saturday just to hear what people say.
02:58 It's really kind.
02:59 It's the first year that I've worked outside in the garden as well.
03:03 We have another first out there which is the projection over the south lawn on the facade, which is looking really really beautiful.
03:10 So there's quite a few firsts for me this year which is really exciting because it's the whole theme coming together right across the offer.
03:18 So garden, farmyard, house and a projection.
03:22 This is our state dining room.
03:26 It is still used on occasion to host functions.
03:30 We bought china out from the collection that is not normally on show this year, so the places are all made with very very beautiful ceramics.
03:41 And it's very much as the 6th Duke had it.
