00:00 What's up everybody?
00:15 Welcome back to Diesel Creek.
00:17 My name's Matt and I'm going to take you guys and show you today's project.
00:23 I've got what I hope is a fun project for us today.
00:27 We're in the old junkyard golf cart here, which is a throw way, way, way back to the
00:33 very roots of the channel.
00:35 This was probably one of the first, I don't know, 5, 10 videos I made was on this 1988
00:41 Yamaha G2 golf cart I got out of a junkyard.
00:47 Anyway in today's video, we're going to be using some blast from the past as well.
00:51 I think I'm going to try to use that thing.
00:54 We're going to be using the International Dump Truck and I don't even know what else
01:01 yet but lots of toys.
01:04 So one of the things on the list is I want to move that pile of dirt.
01:17 The other thing that I need to do is fill in this little gulch here.
01:21 Now we have some big 30 inch culvert pipes sitting up behind us and while this doesn't
01:26 probably require 30 inches worth of culvert pipe, I just think a 30 incher will kind of
01:32 look cooler in there and take less material to fill up the ditch.
01:35 I don't need to completely bridge this and make it a perfectly smooth transition from
01:39 side to side.
01:40 Just make it so that it's not such of a dip to get through here.
01:44 I need to make this a haul road so that running a dump truck, because I don't want to run
01:47 a loaded dump truck up and down my driveway a thousand times for bringing fill into the
01:52 back of the building eventually which is ultimately what this haul road is going to be used for.
01:57 In some past videos you guys have seen me run dump trucks up and down my driveway for
02:01 hauling fill in for the building pad and that was all fine and dandy but it actually really
02:08 tore up my driveway and I just finally got the driveway back into nice compacted smooth
02:14 shape again so I really don't want to screw it all up again running more trucks up and
02:18 down it.
02:20 I've got some culvert pipes laying around so I don't think it's going to be a big deal.
02:25 We should be able to just bomb a pipe in there and throw some dirt over it today and pack
02:30 it in and we will have us a haul road.
02:34 So there's several piles of topsoil that I have stacked up all around the property from
02:38 various projects stripping off for the driveway, stripping off for the building pad and this
02:43 one here is from stripping off for this borrow pit.
02:47 I don't know, looking at the tiny screen in the camera this doesn't look like much but
02:51 if you don't remember this is the pit that I dug for all the fill material for the building
02:58 pad.
02:59 But this is about a 12 foot cut here, maybe 14.
03:03 It's a pretty good little cut.
03:05 So my grand plan here is that eventually I'm going to take some more dirt out of here and
03:10 build a dam across this little ravine down through here and there's a small tributary
03:16 that comes down through this way and that's where we're going to be putting that culvert
03:19 pipe is up this gully.
03:22 And there's a small stream that runs down on this side and I'd like to dam that up and
03:27 eventually fill up this whole area and make a nice little pond.
03:31 Well anyway, that's enough jabbering.
03:35 We're burning daylight and it's getting awful hot by the minute out here.
03:38 I think we're supposed to hit like 93 today which in Pennsylvania that's pretty warm.
03:45 Let's go fire up a dump truck and a loader or whatever else we need.
03:51 [Loud bang]
03:56 [Loud engine noise]
04:17 [Loud engine noise]
04:46 So I got the dump truck here at this first pile of dirt.
04:49 This container is not staying here but this pile of dirt was never supposed to stay here
04:54 either and in the short term it's hard for me to be able to get in and out of that door
04:58 because of this pile of dirt.
05:00 So this is the first one I want to take but there's about seven or eight piles scattered
05:04 along my driveway.
05:05 There's another one right there and they're just kind of spread out all along the driveway
05:09 because during the driveway construction, which if you haven't seen those videos they
05:12 are way back on the channel, some of my earlier stuff but some of the good stuff too.
05:16 Anyways, this was all forest of course and I cleared it, stripped the topsoil off and
05:22 didn't have any place to take the topsoil.
05:24 Still really don't have a great place to take it.
05:26 So I just wind-roaded off to the side at first and then eventually came back and tidied it
05:32 up into little piles like this one.
05:35 And now it's time to get this out of here because I'd like to start maintaining the
05:37 side of this better and mowing it regularly.
05:41 Just that puzzle game that you play when you're sliding around the pieces and you've got to
05:44 unlock this piece that's like way over in this corner and you need to get that piece
05:47 all the way over to the other corner of the game or something but you only have like one
05:50 block you can slide.
05:53 That's basically what we're playing out here on my property right now.
05:56 All this stuff that's down the side of my driveway here, I eventually want it to be
06:00 all hidden back behind the building in the lay down yard that I cleared for in the spring.
06:05 But we can't move it back there until I get the lay down yard graded off and flattened
06:09 out and completed.
06:11 I can't bring in the material for the lay down yard until I expand my borrow pit.
06:15 I can't expand my borrow pit until I get that big pile of topsoil and pile of trees and
06:21 stuff out of the way.
06:22 So we're just, you know, circling around the square right now basically.
06:26 Long story short, the hold up is me.
06:28 So let's try to get something done today.
06:31 I'm going to go try and get that international loader fired up.
06:34 If you guys haven't seen the video on that machine, I got that machine for free up in
06:38 Michigan, and it's got some issues, but I did play around with it a little bit.
06:42 The more I've run it, the better it's run.
06:44 So the injectors probably clearing themselves up a bit.
06:46 I still think it has a bad head gasket.
06:48 We can try running it for a little bit though because it's not pushing any coolant into
06:52 the oil, just a little bit of oil into the coolant.
06:54 So as long as we still have oil, we're going to try loading at least one truck load of
06:58 dirt with it there, or one pile of dirt.
07:01 Probably not advisable to run it very long.
07:03 So here's the gem right here.
07:05 It's an international 3850.
07:07 I haven't tried to really do anything with it yet.
07:09 I unloaded a piece of equipment off my trailer with it.
07:12 I just picked it up and set it down.
07:14 It wasn't a big deal.
07:16 Let's see if this thing's going to fire up for us, and if it does, let's see if it's
07:18 going to load a truck.
07:19 Contact.
07:20 It's going to load a truck.
07:47 All right.
08:17 All right.
08:36- All right.
09:04 All right.
09:10 All right.
09:25- All right.
09:50 All right.
10:02 All right.
10:10 All right.
10:18 All right.
10:38 All right.
11:06 All right.
11:28 All right.
11:54 All right.
12:04 Well, that actually went better than expected.
12:06 That old thing's got a little more snot than I thought it would digging into the pile.
12:10 I think it's a little low on hydraulic fluid, because when you get it up to the top of the
12:13 stroke, it's like it doesn't want to go the last little bit.
12:16 But, yeah, I don't know.
12:18 A little more practice and a better loading area would have helped a lot.
12:22 See, that was weird.
12:24 The whole time I was running this thing, I was expecting to smell and see it blowing
12:30 coolant all over the engine, since that's what it was doing before under medium to heavy
12:34 loads.
12:35 And I would definitely call digging heavy load.
12:38 And it didn't smell, nor sound, nor drip antifreeze at all that whole time.
12:45 But I let it idle and talked to you guys for a minute, and it started spraying it everywhere.
12:50 That's a bit odd.
12:51 I don't know if we're going to finish this pile with that machine or not.
12:54 Hmm.
13:14 Maybe should have waited to bring the truck over here.
13:16 A little tight.
13:17 But I need to get the dozer down in here first and just scrape off this layer of topsoil
13:22 down here, get that to hard pan, and then lay the pipe in there, and then we can put
13:26 dirt back on top of it.
13:29 [engine starting]
13:32 [engine idling]
13:34 [beep]
13:59 [beep]
14:00 [beep]
14:16 [beep]
14:27 [beep]
14:29 [beep]

15:08 [beep]
15:09 [beep]
15:12 [beep]
15:14 [beep]
15:21 [engine idling]
15:24 [beep]
15:34 [beep]
15:35 Alrighty.
15:41 Now that it looks like a bomb went off over here, basically all I was trying to do was
15:47 make one smooth, consistent bottom here so that the pipe doesn't have any big gaps underneath
15:51 of it.
15:52 So we should be pretty good.
15:53 It's a little low down there, but we're not going to be driving on that end anyways.
15:56 We're going to be driving straight through here.
15:58 I'm going to put the end of the pipe pretty much even with that elm tree.
16:02 Maybe a little bit up the hill from it.
16:04 But, yeah, I think we're ready to drop a pipe in here.
16:07 [engine idling]
16:12 [engine idling]
16:14 [engine idling]
16:40 [beep]
16:41 [engine idling]
16:50 [engine idling]
17:07 [engine idling]
17:09 [engine idling]
17:22 [engine idling]
17:28 Alright, look at that.
17:32 That pipe laid in there real nice.
17:33 I was right.
17:34 There's just a slight gap down at the end there, but not a big deal.
17:37 I'm sure that will naturally kind of fill itself in as we backfill the pipe.
17:41 The trick is when you start backfilling a pipe like this, if you don't do it gently
17:46 and put the dirt directly over top or hold the pipe down somehow, the pipe will just
17:50 kind of want to rise up out of the dirt because the material kind of comes down around the
17:54 bottom and kind of like squeezes it up.
17:56 So we've just got to be careful as we backfill.
17:58 We don't put too much dirt on one side or not on top.
18:02 It's ideal to use an excavator and just plop a big blob right on top and hold it.
18:07 [engine idling]
18:16 [engine idling]
18:20 [engine idling]
18:22 [engine idling]
18:47 [engine idling]

26:16 [engine idling]
26:18 [engine idling]
26:31 [engine idling]
26:45 [engine idling]
26:47 [engine idling]
26:56 [engine idling]
27:09 [engine idling]
27:11 [engine idling]
27:36 [engine idling]
27:38 So what's our culvert pipe situation looking like here?
28:04 Look, there's a bunch of deer.
28:06 It's awful far away, I don't know if you guys will be able to see them.
28:09 About five or six deer I think I just saw run through there.
28:12 Anyways, here's the culvert pipe.
28:16 This has been several weeks later after we filled this in.
28:20 And it could use a little bit more soil on top, but it's just been wet.
28:25 It's kind of really shaded back here, doesn't get a lot of sun.
28:29 So this has definitely been soft.
28:34 You can see those deer just walked right through here.
28:36 There's all their hoof prints.
28:38 I've been blading it off, trying to dry it out.
28:42 Hitting it with the dozer on occasion.
28:44 But still not firming up yet.
28:47 What I was thinking about doing is trying to take a few loads of that really nice bony shale
28:54 and lay it down on top of here and hope it kind of packs together and forms a good road base.
28:59 But likely what will happen in that scenario is that we'll kind of form a hard shell on top basically.
29:07 And as the trucks drive on it, it's going to pump and rut and turn into a muddy mess even still.
29:15 So I kind of knew I was gambling, filling in with topsoil like I did there.
29:21 I don't rightly know why I did it, but I had it and I needed to move it anyways, so that's why I did it.
29:27 I know that in time this will firm up enough to where I can drive equipment across it, tractors, you know, anything like that.
29:36 Using it for a haulage road might be problematic for quite a number of years, but it'll get there in time.
29:46 [beeping]
29:49 Seems to hold up to a 4,000 pound Jeep just fine, but a 35,000 pound dump truck, probably not so hot.
30:09 So anyways guys, that's kind of where we're at with this process.
30:15 It's slow going, but trying to get done what I can before winter.
30:18 If you like this video, do me a big favor, hit that thumbs up button down below the video.
30:22 Doesn't cost you guys a dime and it really helps out the channel.

30:30 Pick yourself up some sweet swag over there at the store.
30:32 We've got hats, t-shirts, beer koozies, stickers, all kind of good stuff.
30:36 That's dieselcreek.com, link is down below.
30:39 That being said, I think that wraps up this video.
30:41 As always, thank you guys for watching.
30:43 Couldn't do it without you, and I'll see you on the next one.
