00:00 Hello there, Connor Gormley here.
00:01 I'm a trainee reporter for Sussex World,
00:03 and these are some of our top stories
00:05 from across East and West Sussex today.
00:08 IKEA is set to open its first ever store
00:10 in Sussex later this year in Brighton's Churchill Square.
00:14 If it all goes ahead,
00:15 it will be the 23rd IKEA store to open in the UK,
00:18 but this isn't the first time the company has made plans
00:20 to expand into the region.
00:22 Before this, IKEA had previously announced plans
00:24 for a store in Lansing, but it all fell through,
00:27 and the company later decided to sell the land,
00:29 unfortunately.
00:31 The planning inspectorate's decision
00:32 to approve 300 homes in Bosham, that's near Chichester,
00:35 after the application went to appeal,
00:37 has been met with controversy from local groups.
00:39 The inspector said the plans should have no impact
00:42 on ecosystems nearby or a nearby area
00:45 of outstanding natural beauty,
00:47 despite evidence of the contrary submitted
00:48 by a range of local community groups and organisations,
00:51 including the Chichester Canal Trust,
00:53 who said they were disappointed
00:55 by the decision in a statement.
00:56 A historic Eastbourne hotel,
00:58 famous for hosting the likes of Charlie Chaplin
01:01 and Winston Churchill, was named
01:02 Large Business of the Year at the Eastbourne Business Awards,
01:06 built in 1875, with 152 gorgeously furnished rooms.
01:11 The luxury hotel was also played host
01:13 to names like Sir Ernest Shackleton and Dame Helen Mirren.
01:16 Speaking out about the win,
01:18 general manager Jonathan Webley said the accolade
01:20 was genuinely humbling, inspiring his team
01:23 to persistently raise the standard
01:24 in the hospitality industry.
01:26 That's all from me today,
01:27 but for more news, photos, interviews, and video,
