AccuWeather has an exclusive breakdown of where in the U.S. the weather could cause travel problems in the days leading up to Thanksgiving this year.
Transcript
00:00 More than 55 million people will be traveling
00:02 for Thanksgiving next week, according to AAA,
00:05 but there could be some tricky travel conditions
00:07 in parts of the country.
00:08 Rain, snow, and gusty winds will all be on the menu
00:11 in the east as you head to your holiday destination.
00:14 Christina Schallhoop shows us what to expect.
00:16 We are so close to Thanksgiving travel,
00:21 and if you're making your packing list,
00:23 well, hopefully this helps.
00:24 We can give you a list of things to know
00:26 as we look through Tuesday and Wednesday of the coming week.
00:29 First of all, wet weather possible
00:31 from the south central to the northeast
00:32 as we watch a storm moving across
00:34 the eastern half of the country.
00:35 The second thing to note is,
00:37 while it's not a blockbuster or anything,
00:38 we could have some snow showers
00:39 looking at the interior northwest and across the Rockies.
00:42 Again, nothing really to write home about,
00:44 but it could make things slick and slippy.
00:46 Then you'll notice California to the Midwest,
00:48 life's pretty good.
00:49 Tuesday and Wednesday, it's relatively calm
00:51 for most of that stretch of the US.
00:54 We'll start with Tuesday, and you'll notice
00:56 that stretch of red from eastern Ohio
00:58 down through the Great Smoky Mountains,
01:00 that's where the weather will be poor for traveling.
01:02 If you are traveling in and out of,
01:04 let's say, Asheville, for example,
01:05 or even out toward Charleston, West Virginia,
01:07 really make sure you're keeping an eye
01:09 on travel conditions around you,
01:11 whether you're flying, driving,
01:12 or anything else for that matter.
01:13 Now, you'll notice the fair conditions in yellow.
01:15 That's where, again, that storm is gonna take shape,
01:18 bringing not total chaos,
01:19 but some wet weather at the very least,
01:21 and you know how Thanksgiving travel gets.
01:23 It really doesn't take much to create chaos in itself.
01:26 So again, just keep an eye on what's ahead.
01:28 Now, in terms of Wednesday,
01:29 it's a somewhat similar situation.
01:31 You'll notice with those snow showers
01:33 in the interior northwest,
01:34 there's some fair conditions rather than good,
01:36 especially across I-90 through Montana,
01:38 and even as you get up to northern Maine,
01:40 northern Vermont, and New Hampshire,
01:41 conditions not so great with snow showers coming on in.
01:44 Thanksgiving Day itself, I would say,
01:46 for about 80% of the country, is pretty great.
01:49 Maybe you have to even go as far as 85%.
01:51 You'll notice it's dry and mild from California
01:54 all the way to the Carolina coastline,
01:55 even looking across Virginia.
01:57 It's just plain chilly in the north central,
01:59 and really, as you're getting out to parts of the Midwest,
02:01 with a few snow showers possible in the Mitten and the UP,
02:03 and even across the Great Lakes
02:05 as you're heading back into the northeast,
02:06 cities like Erie and Jamestown,
02:08 a couple of snowflakes not totally out of the question.
02:11 For millions of Americans,
02:14 Thanksgiving and turkey go hand in hand,
02:17 and many are now getting their holiday menus
02:19 together this year.
02:20 Thanksgiving will gobble up less than half your wallet,
02:24 thanks in part to lower turkey prices.
02:27 In-store prices have dropped 13% in October
02:30 compared to the same month last year.
02:32 But that's not all.
02:33 Almost everything on the Thanksgiving menu
02:35 this year is lower.
