00:04 My name is Ryan Grino, and I work with India On Track.
00:08 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:13 One of my students is right now in Madrid.
00:16 Her name is Kajal D'Souza.
00:17 She's 17 years old.
00:18 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:21 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:40 I wasn't the best footballer or something in school, right?
00:43 I had a lot of talented friends, and also always looking
00:46 at how they play.
00:47 I always had that need.
00:49 What if I just had a little bit of guidance?
00:51 [MUSIC PLAYING]

01:05 [CLAPPING]
01:08 I had two partners, Aatish Ganguly and Vidur Mehmi,
01:11 who supported me in this whole academy kind of thing.
01:14 And the three of us did it out of passion,
01:16 and they all both-- our ideas clicked.
01:19 Our vision clicked.
01:20 We used to go door to door to colonies with a pamphlet
01:23 and go to the parents and be like, listen,
01:25 we have started an academy.
01:26 Why don't you send your child for one month trial?
01:29 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:35 And then once La Liga came in, all our happy feet coaches
01:38 also partnered up with them.
01:40 We gave our happy feet program to them
01:42 because they showed me a platform where they were like,
01:45 we will only educate you.
01:47 We will only teach you.
01:48 We will teach all your stuff.
01:49 And you all know this market better than anybody else.
01:52 So why not we both partner up and bring out
01:55 the best in the children?
01:56 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:59 One of my students is right now in Madrid
02:02 for a development center, full scholarship
02:05 through La Liga for one year.
02:07 Her name is Kajal D'Souza.
02:08 She's 17 years old, and she's now--
02:09 she's just gone over there last month.
02:11 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:14 And it was a very good experience.
02:16 And I feel like me playing the World Cup,
02:18 even if the results didn't come in my favor or the team's
02:21 favor, I have had a few girls who
02:24 used to play nationals with me in our under-14 category
02:28 just messaging me, like, how have you done it?
02:30 Being a midfielder, it's something
02:32 that a midfielder can dictate the game,
02:35 can dictate whether you want to move forward
02:37 or whether you want to move backwards.
02:39 And I feel, yes, I think the La Liga methodology is
02:42 like to play a lot around with tactics rather than technique
02:47 right now.
02:48 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:50 But something that I looked at the brightest side that, OK,
02:54 now, you know, I'll just use my head instead of-- so that's
02:57 what he has taught me all the time is that use your head.
03:00 That is the best place.
03:01 Like, you know, you can play the ball in one touch.
03:04 You can score in one touch.
03:06 So I've just learned positioning and a lot of, you know,
03:09 being able to control the game.
03:11 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:14 All across India and all across the cities, I am happy to say,
03:18 I'm proud to say that we have so many coaches, so many managers,
03:22 so many operational heads who are putting--
03:25 who love sports, who are passionate about sports,
03:27 and really taking the time out and putting the hard work
03:30 to make sure that we bridge that gap.
03:32 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:36 And we'll be--
03:37 I feel like, you know, we'll be playing the Under-20 World Cup
03:39 soon.
03:40 I mean, now that we can't, we obviously cross that gate.
03:43 But maybe the Senior World Cup with the Under-20 team,
03:45 if we develop on this a lot.
03:48 Like, if you would have told me 10 years back,
03:49 do you think this is possible?
03:50 I would say yes, but not that far.
03:52 It is a long process.
03:53 It's a marathon.
03:53 It's not a 100-meter.
03:54 It's a proper marathon, and we are bridging that gap slowly,
03:57 slowly, slowly.
