00:00 Wrestling has its own language for the most common crowd reactions.
00:03 When you say the name of the town the show you're on is, that's called a 'cheap
00:07 pop'.
00:08 When the fans genuinely boo you, that's referred to as 'heel heat'.
00:11 But then there's that rarest of crowd reactions, one that I'll have to coin the name for
00:15 right now - the 'wet pop'.
00:18 Which does also, yes, sound like following through on a fart.
00:21 It's when wrestling stories, matches or moments are so transcendent, many fans are
00:27 moved to tears.
00:28 But not me, Oli Davis.
00:30 I would never cry at something so childish.
00:33 I was just very, very sweaty, okay?
00:36 Let's all weep together with 10 moments that legit made wrestling fans cry.
00:42 Before I get into the list, we'd love if you could help support this channel by giving
00:45 us a subscribe, and check out one of our other videos once you've finished this one.
00:50 Like the 10 most watched WWE YouTube videos.
00:52 It's not what you would expect.
00:54 Like, there's way too much Great Carly on there.
00:58 10.
00:59 CM Punk Return Actually Confirmed
01:02 So yeah, maybe I cried at this one.
01:04 Like a little bit, I guess.
01:07 Captured for all to see for all time on our Rampage Live reactions that night.
01:11 After 7 long years away from the professional wrestling industry, changing the culture with
01:15 WWE backstage aside, a jam-packed United Center in Chicago knew the worst kept secret in wrestling
01:21 was about to become public.
01:23 CM Punk was back.
01:25 Back in a wrestling ring, back in the sport of pro wrestling, and back in front of fans
01:31 with All Elite Wrestling.
01:33 It was emotional not just for Punk, who was immediately overcome on making his long-awaited
01:38 entrance with tears in his eyes, but also for me watching from the studio and this guy
01:42 in the crowd, who oddly became the subject of a debate of whether it's okay or not
01:46 for adults to cry at stuff.
01:48 Bully Ray says grow up, you Nancy.
01:51 Punk could've just made his entrance, and it would already have been one of the best
01:54 moments ever, but his passionate and emotional promo somehow took it to another level.
01:59 9.
02:00 Daniel Bryan Retires… and then he also un-retires.
02:05 Bryan Daniel Danielson Bryan Danielson Daniel was our guy.
02:08 He was the underdog babyface we helped win the main event of WrestleMania he wasn't
02:13 even supposed to be in.
02:14 That borderline personal connection with wrestling fans made his injuries in 2014 and 15 so tragic
02:21 to watch unfold.
02:22 Everyone held out hope he would return, but on February 8th 2016, in front of his home
02:27 state of Washington, Bryan cut an emotional retirement speech.
02:31 "If you need a picture of a fan to perfectly describe how we all felt, I give you none
02:36 other than future AEW referee Aubrey Edwards in the front row."
02:40 Bryan talked about being grateful for everything wrestling had provided him in his promo, like
02:45 meeting his wife Brie Bella and the special relationship he had with Conor the Crusher.
02:50 And we were just as grateful for him.
02:53 And then he only went and made us cry all over again.
02:55 Two years after his retirement, we got a just as emotional speech as Daniel Bryan announced
03:00 his return to the ring with the now famous Fight for Your Dreams promo.
03:05 8.
03:06 The Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth Reunion This is like the grandfather of emotional wrestling
03:11 moments, just without the xenophobic jokes.
03:13 I get it, Grandad.
03:14 France Sarandine was hilarious.
03:16 In 1991, there was no greater wrestling love story than "Macho Man Randy Savage", compulsory
03:22 bad Randy Savage impression, and Miss Elizabeth.
03:25 On screen at very least.
03:27 The Dark Side of the Ring episode shares a slightly different picture behind the scenes.
03:31 But the two kayfabe broke up after the mega powers imploded, with Savage becoming the
03:35 Macho King, and starting a new relationship with Sensational Sherry, making her a queen.
03:41 At WrestleMania 7, Macho King faced the Ultimate Warrior in a retirement match that he would
03:46 eventually lose in epic fashion.
03:48 After the bout, Sherry turned on Savage, kicking the legend while he was down.
03:53 Miss Elizabeth was in the crowd, and couldn't just watch as her former man was being abused,
03:57 and shockingly ran into the ring to pull Sherry off of Macho.
04:01 All the emotion rushed Liz, Savage and every fan in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena,
04:07 leading to wrestling's first couple embracing, and everyone bringing on the waterworks.
04:12 Unprofessional wrestling is rare, but this moment showed that it was possible on the
04:16 grandest stage of them all.
04:18 7.
04:19 Edge Retires.
04:20 And then, yeah, what, also unretires.
04:23 Wrestling retirements are the new Canadian Destroyer on the ring, April.
04:26 It's just a set up spot now.
04:28 At WrestleMania 27, Edge only just retained his World Heavyweight Championship when everyone
04:33 assumed he was going to lose it to Alberto Del Rio, and was seemingly set to continue
04:37 his run at the top of the SmackDown card.
04:39 But just one week later, Edge revealed that his long list of injuries had caught up with
04:43 him, and he had been diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, and the doctors would not
04:48 clear him to compete.
04:49 He was only 37 at the time, and it didn't seem possible that someone so young could
04:54 retire from professional wrestling.
04:56 It also hurt because the content of the promo was Edge saying he felt like he'd let us
05:00 down.
05:01 Edge was written off as someone who had retired before their time, but then he made his shock
05:05 in-ring return at the 2020 Royal Rumble, coming out with tears in his eyes.
05:10 On this day, he could not see clearly, and neither could we, because we were also very
05:15 much crying.
05:16 6.
05:17 Cody Rhodes vs Dustin Rhodes
05:20 It was a match that really should've happened properly in WWE.
05:23 They set it up enough times to be a WrestleMania match, but never pulled the trigger on it.
05:27 And I say 'properly' because they did do it.
05:30 Sort of.
05:31 Once.
05:32 They did Goldust vs Stardust.
05:33 At Fastlane.
05:34 The show before WrestleMania.
05:37 And it only went 9 minutes, and was a bit naff.
05:40 But this.
05:41 This.
05:42 Was the proper match.
05:43 This.
05:44 This was beautiful.
05:45 Bloody, yes, but also beautiful.
05:47 There were so many questions around All Elite Wrestling.
05:50 What will it look like?
05:51 How different will it be from WWE?
05:54 What will the matches be like in-ring?
05:55 And we got those answers at their inaugural event, Double or Nothing in 2019.
06:01 And certainly in its most memorable match, the 5 star classic between Cody Rhodes and
06:06 Dustin Rhodes.
06:07 It was a match packed with drama, emotion and heart.
06:10 Capped off by a superb promo following the bout, where Cody announced that he didn't
06:15 need a partner to face the Young Bucks.
06:17 He needed a brother.
06:18 Bloodily embracing Dustin.
06:20 It was the moment where Cody became a babyface in AEW forever.
06:25 Forever!
06:26 No questions!
06:28 5.
06:29 Ric Flair Retires
06:30 It's another retirement the wrestler didn't stick to.
06:33 But unlike our previous two retirements, this one isn't the speech that got everyone's
06:37 eyes flooding.
06:38 It was the match itself.
06:39 Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24, where if Flair lost he would have to retire
06:44 from the world of professional wrestling, was as good as you would imagine from two
06:48 of the greatest to ever do it.
06:50 But it was the final moment of the match that had people feeling a little moist in their
06:54 eyes as Shawn Michaels tuned up the band and mailed the words "I'm sorry.
06:59 I love you."
07:00 He hit Sweet Chin Music, and that was all she wrote for Ric Flair in a WWE ring.
07:05 Some called it the most perfect retirement in wrestling history.
07:09 So it's a good job he didn't wrestle for many years after that in some dreadful matches
07:12 in TNA.
07:14 4.
07:15 Shawn Michaels Retires
07:16 The other half of that match would have his own retirement stipulation two years later,
07:21 as Michaels stepped into the ring with his long-time rival The Undertaker one more time
07:26 at WrestleMania 26, with his career on the line.
07:30 One final chance to end the streak.
07:33 It was a brilliant story told from the Rumble to Mania, and it's a perfect sequel to their
07:37 near-perfect encounter at WrestleMania 25.
07:40 At least this one was actually the main event this time, so they wouldn't have to upstage
07:44 Triple H and Randy Orton again.
07:46 Taker of course won, and Michaels officially retired on the Raw after Mania the next night.
07:52 It was an incredibly emotional speech.
07:54 Shawn had always been a factor in WWE in some form or another since the early 90s.
07:59 He was a Grand Slam champion, and one of the best to ever step foot in the squared circle.
08:04 He had his issues, sure, but his return in 2002 led to one of the all-time great wrestling
08:09 runs.
08:10 Just look at the emotion on this woman's face.
08:13 Shawn meant the world to WWE fans, the man who never left the company even during the
08:18 Monday Night Wars when it would have been an option.
08:20 A loyal servant until the end.
08:22 It was so emotional that it's a good job he also never had another match ever again.
08:27 Nope.
08:28 Never had another match ever again.
08:30 3.
08:31 Sasha Banks makes Izzy cry One of the things old-timers will tell you
08:35 about current day wrestling is that heels just aren't heels anymore.
08:38 That's why everyone raves about MJF.
08:41 A legit heel who people legit hate.
08:43 And not in an ironic Miz way where we know we're supposed to hate him.
08:47 People legitimately hate MJF and want to see him getting beaten by the good guy.
08:51 Which is what makes this entry so unbelievably great.
08:54 As a bit of context, NXT used to be good, and it used to be filmed in front of the same
08:59 audience every single week at Full Sail University.
09:03 One of those audience members was a little girl by the name of Izzy, who was the biggest
09:07 fan of Bayley in the world.
09:09 Maybe only second to Luke Owen.
09:10 Bayley, the ultimate underdog of NXT not named Sami Zayn, finally defeated Sasha Banks at
09:15 NXT TakeOver Brooklyn in 2015 to win the NXT Women's Championship, and was set to defend
09:21 it in front of that Full Sail audience at NXT TakeOver Respect in a 30 minute Iron Man
09:26 match.
09:27 At around the halfway point, Banks threw Bayley into the screen at the top of the stage, and
09:31 earned herself a countout victory to go 2-1 up.
09:34 But in doing this, she also stole the headband from Izzy at ringside, and then proceeded
09:39 to parade around the ring like the massive heel she is to the biggest heat imaginable.
09:44 It's a perfect bit of heel work anyway, but the visual of seeing this little girl
09:48 burst into tears and cradle herself into her father's chest as her hero lay beaten on
09:53 the floor while this smirking villain stands victorious is just incredible.
09:58 Bayley went on to win the match, and Izzy went on to become an excellent wrestling YouTuber
10:03 in her own right.
10:04 2.
10:05 Mark Henry - Baby I'm Coming Home
10:07 I'll never trust the colour salmon ever again.
10:10 Or the food for that matter.
10:12 In 2013, on an episode of Monday Night Raw, Mark Henry came out to cut probably the best
10:17 promo of his entire career, as he announced he would be retiring from pro wrestling.
10:22 It was a surprise to a lot of people, and a shame too, as the last few years had legit
10:27 been the best of Henry's entire run in WWE.
10:30 Which, up until that point, had mostly been rubbish matches and fathering hands.
10:34 John Cena was also there, for a lovely bit of foreshadowing as Henry talked about how
10:38 he never won the WWE Championship, where Cena looked genuinely emotional.
10:43 With tears in his eyes, Mark Henry talked about how his wife - no, not Mae Young - would
10:47 be seeing more of him, and to his little girl, 'Baby I'm coming home'.
10:52 There wasn't a dry eye in the house, and then BAM, a World's Strongest Slam to John
10:57 Cena.
10:58 One of the all-time greatest swerves, made all the better, because everyone believed
11:03 it was real.
11:04 1.
11:05 The Tribute Shows We couldn't possibly name just one, so we're
11:09 going to say, yeah, all the Tribute Shows, but to single a few out Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero,
11:15 Brian Pillman and, more recently, Brodie Lee in All Elite Wrestling.
11:19 Owen and Pillman's hit hard for very different reasons.
11:22 Eddie's was one of the biggest shocks to the WWE system in recent memory, and Brodie
11:26 Lee's was one of the most perfect and heartbreaking Tribute Shows to ever be put on screen.
11:31 Punk has even said in interviews that one of the reasons he believed everything that
11:35 Tony Khan was promising him was because he saw the passion and love on that Tribute Show,
11:40 with that final image of his son, -1, holding aloft the TNT title that his father had defended
11:47 in his final ever match.
11:48 It's one of the most moving moments I've ever seen, and I haven't been able to watch
11:52 it back since.
11:53 I guess I know the tears will just start flying again.
11:55 And to be honest, I'm a little bit emotional just thinking about it now.
11:59 So cheer yourself up by going to watch the bonkers 10 most watched WWE YouTube videos
12:04 featuring Way Too Much Great Khali.
12:07 And I'll see you in the next one.
