00:00 I believe it was Marlon Brando's character from On the Waterfront who said, "I could
00:04 have had class, I could have been a contender, but I fell on my bum 'cause I slipped on some
00:09 ham."
00:10 I love movies.
00:11 Wrestling is a dangerous game.
00:13 Injuries can strike at any moment, which must make booking a WrestleMania card stressful
00:17 as balls, knowing that the capricious gods of fate could KO your best laid plans with
00:22 an errant twist of a joint or a pull of a muscle.
00:25 And naturally, as you'd expect from a show that's been around for 38 years, injuries
00:29 have ruined a great many WrestleMania plans.
00:32 Oh dearie, dearie doctors.
00:34 I'm Adam Hailing from PartsFarKnown and here are 10 WrestleMania plans ruined by injuries.
00:39 10.
00:40 Jason Jordan vs. Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan vs. Kurt Angle
00:44 Remember Jason Jordan?
00:45 He only started watching wrestling after Mania 34, then you'll never even have heard of him
00:49 because it was on the road to that show of shows in NOLA that Mr. Jordan underwent surgery
00:53 for issues with his neck, a sidelining that he never returned from.
00:57 Jordan's surgery was, quote, "a quick fix surgery," according to Kurt Angle, a man no
01:01 stranger to neck issues, which is morbidly appropriate considering he was, in kayfabe,
01:06 revealed to be Jason Jordan's illegitimate father.
01:09 Jordan was apparently scheduled to wrestle his tag partner at the time, Seth Rollins,
01:13 at Mania 34.
01:14 Makes sense, they'd already started to sow the seeds of dissension and Jordan was getting
01:17 good heel heat for it.
01:19 Rollins instead was inserted into the IC title match, which ended up going gangbusters for
01:23 the lad.
01:24 A year later, Jordan was earmarked to wrestle his Olympic daddy in a retirement match at
01:27 Mania 35, but he still wasn't cleared in time, which means the match went to Baron Corbin,
01:33 a significantly worse option for us all.
01:36 9.
01:37 Batista and Rey Mysterio vs. Big Show and Floyd Mayweather
01:40 Celebrity matches at WrestleMania are either brilliant or terrible, with no in-between.
01:44 Logan Paul?
01:45 Brilliant.
01:46 Snooker?
01:47 Terrible.
01:48 Mr. T at Mania 1?
01:49 Brilliant.
01:50 Mr. T at Mania 2?
01:51 Terrible.
01:52 One of the better celebrity matches in Mania history saw the Big Show lose to one of the
01:56 greatest boxers and most ostentatious assholes to draw breath, Floyd, considerably richer
02:02 than you, Mayweather.
02:03 According to an interview with Tall Paul, the tallest Paul you ever saw, the original
02:07 match was supposed to see Big Show and Floyd team up to take on the best friend team of
02:12 Rey Mysterio and Batista in a battle of the littles and the larges.
02:15 However, Rey-Rey suffered a biceps tear in February during an overseas tour, and the
02:19 match was pivoted to Mayweather vs. Show in a David vs. Goliath match, albeit a match
02:23 where David is such a prick that everyone goes, "You know what, actually?
02:26 That Goliath's alright."
02:27 8.
02:28 Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara
02:30 Poor Rey Mysterio.
02:32 So many injuries to the knee, at least five according to that famous "Don't Try This
02:35 at Home" PSA.
02:36 Except this time, it wasn't Rey-Rey's boo-boo that put paid to his planned match against
02:40 Sin Cara at WrestleMania 29.
02:42 WWE scheduled the match in order to set a world record for the most marks wearing masks
02:47 in one building.
02:48 That would have been genuinely very unsettling to see, like that bit at the end of John Wick
02:51 2 where all the people turned to look at him, but instead it's thousands of children whose
02:55 parents have bought them a f*cking Lucha mask.
02:57 Anyway, Sin Cara blew out his knee, shelving him for a number of months, and Mysterio ended
03:02 up walking out of the company owing to frustrations he was having with the whole storyline.
03:06 Bad time for Lucha things in WWE.
03:08 7.
03:09 Lita vs. Trish Stratus
03:10 Lita vs. Trish is wildly heralded by WWE as one of the greatest "rivalries" of all time,
03:16 even receiving its own episode on the WWE Network series, "Rivalries."
03:20 Named "Rivalries" because it's a show all about rivalries.
03:24 Rivalries.
03:25 However, despite all the accolades, the two women never had a one-on-one match at WrestleMania,
03:30 which seems… crazy.
03:31 The only Mania match they were both in was that triple threat also featuring Jazz at
03:35 Mania 18, which was… you know… it was fine.
03:38 However, the two were booked to have a match at Mania 21, in a storyline that began with
03:42 Trish mocking Lita over having a miscarriage mid-2000s WWE, everyone.
03:46 The story would see Trish beat Lita for a women's title at New Year's Revolution before
03:50 Lita got it back at Mania.
03:52 However, at New Year's Revolution, Lita tore her ACL jumping off the ring apron, putting
03:56 her out of action.
03:57 In a panic, WWE booked Trish vs. Christy Hemi instead, with Lita in her corner.
04:02 Christy Hemi was not ready for a one-on-one Mania match, and it wasn't very good.
04:07 Christy Hemi and Trish do not have an episode of "Rivalries" all to themselves.
04:10 6.
04:11 Triple H vs. John Cena
04:12 At WrestleMania 22, Triple H fought Bugsy Malone, John Cena, in Chicago, and it was
04:17 wonderfully weird.
04:18 It was one of the first major instances of a hardcore wrestling crowd rejecting Big Match
04:22 John and his "I Win" lolshipopigans.
04:25 Despite the Chicago crowd booing John and loudly approving of Triple H, of all people,
04:30 WWE thought, "Okay, let's do it again, but this time, do it properly," with Triple H
04:34 vs. John Cena 2 being booked for Mania 23 in Detroit.
04:37 Triple H would have been a babyface this time around, and treat Cena as a legitimate threat
04:42 in a fun switch-up of the dynamic.
04:44 However, at New Year's Revolution 2007 — bloody hell, what a cursed form at New Year's Revolution
04:49 was — in a match between DX and Rated-RKO, Triple H tore his quad, ending the match in
04:54 a no-contest, and sidelined the game until SummerSlam that same year.
04:58 However, it may have been a blessing in disguise, with Trip's spot being taken by DX's Bessie
05:01 Shawn Michaels, resulting in one of the best Mania main events… ever.
05:05 5.
05:06 Batista vs. Randy Orton, WrestleMania 22
05:08 WWE have tried to do Batista vs. Randy Orton at WrestleMania, not once, but twice.
05:13 The first time was called off due to injury, the second time was called off due to Daniel
05:17 Bryan and also Batista's unforgivable genes.
05:20 At Mania 22, Rey Mysterio fought Randy Orton and Kurt Angle in a triple threat for the
05:24 World Heavyweight Championship.
05:25 Rey would win that match and go on to be the saddest world champion who ever lived.
05:29 The original plan was very different.
05:31 Batista would be World Heavyweight Champion going into Mania, defending it against Royal
05:34 Rumble winner Randy Orton.
05:37 However, in January 2006, Batista suffered a torn triceps in a match against Mark Henry
05:42 on a house show, forcing him to vacate the title on SmackDown, this coupled with the
05:46 recent passing of Eddie Guerrero.
05:48 So WWE changed their plans, awarding the Rumble win and eventual title change to longtime
05:52 Guerrero friend and rival, Rey Mysterio.
05:55 4.
05:56 The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar
05:57 Seems mad to consider the road not traveled.
06:00 After all, we all know that at WrestleMania 30, Brock Lesnar beat The Undertaker and broke
06:04 his historic undefeated streak in a moment that created the most horrified crowd reaction
06:08 since your dad's sex tape.
06:10 That was not the plan though.
06:11 Instead, to celebrate WrestleMania turning Vin Diesel years old, WWE originally booked
06:16 in The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar, a rematch 12 years in the making.
06:20 The Rock would have lost the title to John Cena at Mania 29, turned up on Raw the next
06:24 night and see himself get attacked and written off by Brock.
06:27 However, The Rock would end up missing that Raw due to injury, tearing his abdomen and
06:31 adductor tendons off his pelvis during his match with John at Mania.
06:35 This delayed the filming of Hercules, which likely caused a right raw sh*t storm behind
06:39 the scenes at Hollywood.
06:40 As such, The Rock has, to this day, not stepped into the ring for a proper match again, because
06:44 that match at WrestleMania 32 doesn't f*cking count.
06:48 Lest the people's pelvis come a cropper.
06:50 3.
06:51 Kevin Owens vs. Daniel Bryan
06:52 Ok, it definitely doesn't feel right to say that Kevin Owens vs. Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania
06:55 35 was ruined, considering what we got in its place, but it's still 100% true that an
07:02 injury caused this match to be changed.
07:04 In 2019, the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship was scheduled to be Daniel
07:08 Bryan defending against AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy and Mustafa Ali.
07:14 However, on a house show, an errant turnbuckle bump exacerbated a head injury that Ali had
07:19 picked up against Randy Orton, and Ali was pulled from Smackdown programming in the weeks
07:23 leading up to the chamber.
07:24 Famously, Ali was replaced in the gauntlet match on Smackdown by Kofi Kingston, who ended
07:30 up turning in a career-altering performance, catching fire so much that his momentum carried
07:35 him beyond the Elimination Chamber match, culminating in Kofi-mania, with KO being bumped
07:40 to a WWE title match at Fastlane, along with Mustafa Ali.
07:44 2.
07:45 Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart
07:46 Ok, now this one sees the term "injury" being put in the largest possible quotation marks
07:51 because it's become an open industry secret.
07:53 This entry is all about a fake injury, but hell, Shawn Michaels has never admitted that's
07:57 the case, so on the list it goes.
07:59 At WrestleMania 12, HBK beat Bret Hart in WWE's first ever Iron Man match to win his
08:03 first ever WWE Championship.
08:06 One year later, at WrestleMania 13, the original plan was for Shawn to return the favor and
08:10 drop the WWE Championship to the Hitman.
08:12 However, sadly HBK went down with an air quotes "knee" air quotes "injury", one that also
08:19 cost him his smile in a morose interview on Thursday Raw Thursday where he vacated the
08:24 title.
08:25 It's widely believed that Michaels simply didn't want to job to his real-life rival
08:28 Bret Hart, and the injury has been wildly exaggerated.
08:31 In the end, via some convoluted bollocks, neither man wrestled in Mania 13's main event,
08:36 with Psycho Sid somehow defending the title against The Undertaker… in a s*** match.
08:40 1.
08:41 WrestleMania 32's entire main event card
08:45 Talk about a curse show.
08:46 WrestleMania 32 was supposed to feature the following matches.
08:50 John Cena vs The Undertaker, replacing Sting vs The Undertaker after Sting went down with
08:56 a briefly career-ending injury, only for the replacement match to be pulled after Cena
09:00 went down with a shoulder injury.
09:02 Seth Rollins was supposed to face off against his "authority" dad, Triple H, before Seth
09:06 went down with the knee injury that forced him to vacate the WWE Championship.
09:10 Roman Reigns was supposed to wrestle Brock Lesnar in a rematch from their cashed-in-on-classic
09:14 the previous year.
09:15 None of the planned top 3 matches at Mania 32 ended up happening.
09:19 Triple H fought Roman Reigns in one of the worst Mania matches ever, Shane McMahon fought
09:24 The Undertaker in one of the weirdest WrestleMania matches ever, and Brock Lesnar was given Dean
09:28 Ambrose in one of the most disappointing Mania matches ever.
09:31 Not to mention countless other changes that must have been made to the card with Cesaro,
09:34 Tyson Kidd, Randy Orton, Neville, Luke Harper not making the show due to various injuries.
09:39 It's the lost WrestleMania.
09:40 And also, my first WrestleMania.
09:44 Hooray.
09:45 And that's our list.
09:46 Did we miss any out?
09:47 Let us know in the comments.
09:48 And also, check out last week's list, Worst WrestleMania Entrances.
09:51 Here's a little bit of that, now.
