00:00WWE likes to think they're a company that makes dreams come true.
00:03Nightmares are dreams, after all.
00:05But it's no secret that the dream of many young WWE fans is to win a WWE Championship
00:10in the main event of Wrestlemania or something to that effect.
00:14Pyro, Ballyhoo, Pomp's, Circumstance.
00:16When all of these things are combined with a great match, you can really make a title
00:20win feel special.
00:21Brock Lesnar capturing the WWE title from The Rock, Daniel Bryan overcoming his former
00:26pro to win the United States Championship, mmm, delectable stuff.
00:30However, while winning your first title may be a dream come true for some, for others
00:34it was a night they would like to forget.
00:35Not all title wins are created equal, and sometimes a WWE star's first title win is
00:39so bad, it needs to be eternally sunshined away from our collective spotless minds.
00:44I'm Tempest Haling from Parks Fun Known, and these are 10 WWE stars who won their first
00:48championships in terrible matches.
00:51Personally, I would like to thank everybody who has subscribed to Parks Fun Known over
00:54the years, as we just passed 200,000 subscribers over Wrestlemania weekend, and that will never
00:59not be nuts to me.
01:01So thank you to everybody who subscribed, and if you aren't subscribed, well, hop on
01:05board, we're heading to 250.
01:06Number 10, The Undertaker, Survivor Series 1991.
01:10Just one year after sauntering down to the ring for the first time at Survivor Series
01:141990, Jeremy, your only form of hellish entertainment, finally got a title shot against WWE Champion
01:20Hulk Hogan at Survivor Series 1991.
01:22Hogan certainly was not known for 20-minute classics, but under the right circumstances,
01:26and with the right opponent, a great match could be had.
01:29A 1991 full-on zombified Undertaker was not the right opponent, and these were not the
01:34right circumstances.
01:35There's a lot of face squeezing, as was the style of Undertaker matches at the time.
01:39Hogan takes a tombstone and completely no-sells it, immediately popping to his feet and hulking
01:44up as my eyes glaze over watching the fakest bit of WWE programming from 1991.
01:49The Undertaker's style evolved over his 30-year career, but this match was the worst
01:52of both his and Hogan's styles at the time.
01:55He may be a Hall of Famer now, but it's crazy to think that it would take 16 more
01:59years before The Undertaker would win a world title in a good match.
02:02Number 9, Batista, Armageddon 2003.
02:05That's right kids, this list is not limited to just world titles, meaning for folks like
02:09Batista, you have to venture back to Armageddon 2003 to find the first time Big Dave won some
02:13leather and gold.
02:15The title in question was the World Tag Team Championship, which Old Sapper Morton won,
02:19with Evolution mentor Ric Flair.
02:21Batista still calls this one of his two favorite moments of his career, the other was WrestleMania
02:2521, but unfortunately this title win came at the end of WWE's favorite answer to not
02:30wanting to book a tag team feud, a tag team turmoil match.
02:34Fun.
02:35WWE loved doing these in the Ruthless Aggression era, and they're just like all gauntlet matches.
02:40If they're given time, they have a chance to be good.
02:42If they didn't, well, you get the picture.
02:45This one featured the all-star line-up of teams Rosie and Hurricane, Rene Dupree and
02:49Rob Conway, Garrison Cade and Mark Jindrak, Lance Storm and Val Venus, Scott, Steiner
02:55and Test, and The Dudleys.
02:58This match never had a chance of being good, with 6 sh**ty little mini-matches being crammed
03:02into 15 minutes and 48 seconds.
03:05If you only judge from when Batista and Flair enter, it's an inoffensive 4 minute match,
03:10but you have to include this dreadful preamble, and had Dave not had to wrestle Shawn Michaels
03:14earlier in the night, he and Rick against The Dudleys in a straight tag match would
03:18have been much better.
03:19Number 8, Braun Strowman, WrestleMania 34.
03:23Oh, speaking of tag team matches that sucked, Braun Strowman got far more over than anyone
03:28expected him to in 2017, simply by pushing Roman Reigns off of things, and to be fair,
03:32that was the dream of a large portion of the WWE audience at the time, which resulted in
03:37a very high-profile match with Brock Lesnar at No Mercy 2017 for the Universal title.
03:41That match wasn't great either, but it certainly felt important.
03:44The same cannot be said for the Strowman's actual first title win, which I had genuinely
03:49blocked out of my memory prior to writing this.
03:51Raw Tag Champions The Bar were challenged by Braun Strowman and a mystery partner at
03:55WrestleMania 34.
03:57Ooh, mystery partners are fun, I wonder who it'll be?
04:00Maybe an NXT call-up, maybe a repackaged character?
04:03Confusion broke out as Braun said he was picking someone out of the crowd to be his partner.
04:07Certainly intriguing, considering if he was in the right section, he could have selected
04:10Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchiko Okada, or Minoru Suzuki, any of whom would have made sure this
04:15match did not appear on this list, but rather, no, Braun chose the 9-year-old.
04:20People overuse the word burial in wrestling too much these days, but a single star and
04:24a child beating the tag champ just to give the belt back the next day anyway is as much
04:29a burial as this was a s*** match.
04:32John Cena – WrestleMania 20 From one WrestleMania moment to a significantly
04:36better one, John Cena managed to capture his first United States Championship from the
04:40Big Show at WrestleMania 20.
04:42This match is remembered for two reasons, it's Cena's first title win, and holy
04:46hell, that is a human waterbed engulfing Cena's shoulders.
04:50Watching people lift Big Show will never not be impressive, no matter how many times Cena
04:54has done it, and as impressive as a moment that is, unfortunately the match that precedes
04:58it is about as dull a WrestleMania opener as you can get.
05:01Cena was far from a polished worker at the time, and Big Show wasn't exactly the ring
05:05general to pull a classic out of an inexperienced Cena.
05:07It's a 9-minute slog, and not the best way to kick off one of the most legendary championship
05:12careers in WWE history, but the moment will live forever because that is just too big
05:16of a show to be on John's shoulders.
05:19Natalya – Survivor Series 2010 Has there been another WWE women's wrestler
05:24with as bizarre a career as Natalya?
05:26She's been there for 14 years, farted a bunch, has generally been beaten like a drum
05:31when at all possible, all the while being maybe WWE's most reliable women's wrestler
05:36of her generation pre-NXT.
05:38Natalya has rarely been used as the focus of the division, only winning two singles
05:42titles, and it really is a shame the first one came during a time like this.
05:46During the LayCool Reign of Terror on SmackDown, Natalya was forced to wrestle both Layla and
05:50Michelle McCool in a handicap match for the Bratz belt at Survivor Series 2010.
05:54Considering this was SmackDab in the middle of WWE's What's Women's Wrestling Never
05:58Heard of It phase, it should come as no surprise that the match only went three minutes.
06:02Natalya would have much better matches for titles later in her career, and this really
06:06is more of a sign of the times than anything else.
06:09Kurt Angle – SmackDown February 10, 2000 Now I will be honest, Terrible is a bit of
06:15a stretch for this one.
06:16There isn't anything egregiously wrong with Kurt Angle's first title win, but something
06:20about one of the best wrestlers of all time winning the European Championship from Val
06:24Venus in a short, heatless match just doesn't sit right with me.
06:27Kurt Angle was still an incredibly fresh face to the WWE audience, so much so that they
06:31didn't get the memo that they were watching one of the greats, instead treating this like
06:35an average mid-card performance.
06:37Unfortunately, it kinda was.
06:39This was only like five minutes with nothing of interest happening.
06:42I mean, if you can find a way to be at all interest in anything Val Venus does, then
06:46you have a stronger will than I.
06:48The fans didn't even pop for the finish because they weren't familiar with Kurt's
06:51finisher yet.
06:52On the plus side, Kurt celebrates like he wins the Stanley Cup after winning the European
06:56Championship.
06:57Which is funny, because it's the European Championship.
06:594.
07:00Cesaro – Summerslam 2012 It was a different time when Antonio Cesaro
07:05stepped onto the WWE scene in 2012.
07:08The shield had not yet arrived, Daniel Bryan's yes chants were only starting to take off,
07:12and the landscape of WWE was not designed for independent stars like Cesaro.
07:16One could argue that it never was.
07:18But by Summerslam 2012, Cesaro was set to become United States Champion.
07:22A pretty solid step for someone only a few months in.
07:24The only problem was he had to wrestle Santino Marella for it, and if he needed less of a
07:28reason to see it, it was also on the kickoff show.
07:31It's not like the two don't try, but it's a five minute match on the pre-show.
07:34Not exactly the type of match that gets out of first gear.
07:37Not to mention the sheer lunacy of the wrestler's wrestler Cesaro having to deal with Santino's
07:42stupid cobra sock puppet being attracted to Oksana against Santino's will.
07:47What makes this more depressing is that in his 10 years on the main roster, this was
07:52Cesaro's only singles title win.
07:55Fighting a sock.
07:57Number 3, Sami Zayn, Elimination Chamber 2020.
08:00For a long time, it seemed as if Sami Zayn would go his entire WWE main roster run without
08:04winning a championship of any kind.
08:06Title shots weren't exactly plentiful, and the ones that did come his way, such as WWE
08:10Championship matches in 2018, proved unfruitful.
08:13It wasn't until Elimination Chamber 2020 that Sami finally got his hands on some gold
08:17for the first time, and they sure picked some interesting circumstances to make it happen,
08:21and didn't they?
08:22Sami was part of The Artist Collective at the time, a group of misfit great wrestlers
08:25without a home or purpose, and they were determined to retrieve the Intercontinental Championship
08:29from the clutches of Bronny the Strowman.
08:31Where this gets strange is at Elimination Chamber, all three artists collectively faced
08:35Strowman in a 3-on-1 handicap match for the title.
08:38Zayn was the one who managed to get the pin and win the title, but not before 9 minutes
08:42of three exciting wrestlers wearing down a giant in the least exciting manner possible.
08:47Seriously, the crowd barely makes a sound.
08:49Maybe they were all lost in a trance thinking about how they wouldn't be allowed outside
08:53in a week's time.
08:54When you consider Sami's first title win could have been a beating Kevin Owens for
08:57the IC title, the US title, or the Universal title, all of which would have been excellent,
09:01this match becomes a little bit harder to swallow.
09:042.
09:05Ryback – Elimination Chamber 2015 Terrible might be a strong word for some of
09:09the matches on this list.
09:10Some are short, underwhelming, uninteresting, but we are officially in trainwreck territory,
09:15folks.
09:16Watching every single Elimination Chamber match earlier this year for the Every Elimination
09:19Chamber Participant Ranked list gave me a fun perspective watching all the matches through
09:23today's eyes.
09:24Some were better than I remembered, some were about the same, and some were just as butt-ass
09:28garbage as I remembered.
09:30I'll give you three guesses which category this one falls under.
09:33We've talked about this match a lot lately, but the spark notes are Mark Henry's pod
09:37pops open before it's supposed to, the match falls apart.
09:40Dolph says, it's just a little trainwreck, it's still good, it's still good, and
09:43tries to put the pieces back together.
09:45It doesn't work.
09:46Sheamus acts like he's stuck, and finally, and mercifully, Ryback wins.
09:49To date, this is the only championship Ryback ever won in WWE.
09:54If he wants to show anyone that time Ryback won a belt, they will have to sit through
09:58this match, and, well, I don't think they would want to do that.
10:011.
10:03The Big Show – Halloween Havoc 1995 And we close out our list with something so
10:08absurd and so inconceivably terrible that we have to allow for another promotion to
10:12step in for the top spot.
10:14Before he was Tall Paul, before he was The Big Show, he was simply known as The Giant,
10:19supposedly the son of Andre the Giant, who elected to use his father's middle and
10:22last names, but decided to forego a first name.
10:25At Halloween Havoc 1995, The Giant not only won his first championship, but it was the
10:29WCW World Championship, and he did it in his very first ever match.
10:34That sounds impressive, right?
10:35Well, that's only the bare bones facts.
10:37At first, they started by yelling, I AM MONSTER TRUCK at each other while driving around a
10:43rooftop in a monster truck sumo match, don't get any ideas NXT 2.0, then The Giant is pushed
10:49off the roof and seemingly killed, only to walk out to the arena about 10 minutes later
10:53without a scratch on him with commentary explaining that he fell in the Detroit River next to
10:57Kobo Hall, a more ridiculous explanation than even the second smaller roof at Money in the
11:02Bank 2020.
11:03Once it's in the ring, things settle down for a bit, and then you had what may have
11:06been the worst ending to a pay-per-view of all time, as Jimmy Hart turns on Hulk Hogan,
11:11Savage and Luger come out to make the save, Luger immediately turns on Savage, and finally
11:16a man taller than Big Show wrapped in toilet paper comes out and gyrates on Hulk Hogan.
11:21Somehow, someway, all of that utter tomfoolery resulted in The Giant winning the WCW Championship
11:28by disqualification.
11:30Hell of a first night on the job, Tall Paul, but seriously, can someone tell me what in
11:34the blue hell is a yet-tay?
11:36And that's our list.
11:37If you liked this video, make sure you give it a like and share it around with your friends,
11:40maybe they'll like it too, and tell them to subscribe so they don't miss out on any fun
11:44wrestling content just like this.
11:46If you know of any other wrestlers who won their first championships in terrible matches,
11:49let me know in the comments.
11:50I did a lot of research, and this was a hard list to research.
11:53That being said, make sure you stay beautiful, and remember that LIW is fine.
