00:09 It's time for our second version of the in-season mock draft for Bear Digest.
00:14 The first version conducted in November, where this version is going to focus on
00:18 the Bears not having Justin Fields as their quarterback.
00:22 We don't know if that's going to be the case, but we're going to look at that in
00:25 this mock draft and see what could happen.
00:28 So the Bears are on the clock in Bear Digest mock draft 2.0 in-season.
00:33 [MUSIC]
00:35 So round one, pick number one, 6'1", 210-pound quarterback Caleb Williams of USC.
00:42 The first pick is naturally him.
00:44 If you're worried about those last five games he had this past season
00:48 and the way he reacted to all the losing that he had, well,
00:51 he'll get used to it in the NFL, especially at Hatties Hall.
00:55 He still had impressive numbers in those five losses, continues to show that quick
01:00 release and an ability to spot the windows to put the ball downfield
01:04 ahead of the receiver.
01:06 He's also very athletic, much like Justin Fields, but isn't looking to run.
01:13 Round one, pick number four, well, incredibly, Marvin Harrison Jr.,
01:16 the wide receiver of Ohio State.
01:18 With the next pick, I expected to either trade back or take a tackle.
01:22 The Bears don't really need this tackle, but this was truly their day.
01:26 The wide receiver Marvin Harrison fell.
01:29 The Cardinals ended up taking Kool-Aid McKinstry, the cornerback,
01:33 and Oluwafesanu went to the Patriots, a tackle for Penn State.
01:38 This would be a dream pairing, a generational wide receiver
01:41 and a red-hot passer.
01:43 It's not realistic for Harrison to be number four, and the Bears probably
01:46 won't even be number four anyway, as I've said.
01:49 For the receiver, though, the son of the Colts, great, a 6'4", 210-pound,
01:53 long-arm player who can jump through the roof.
01:56 The Bears have no second round pick, and they badly need a center,
01:59 but this is again their day.
02:01 Round three, at number 69 overall, Georgia's Cedric Van Praan is still there,
02:07 and the Bears select a center, 6'4", 310, not especially fast,
02:11 but is said to be a good fit in a zone blocking scheme.
02:15 The Bears do run the wide zone blocking scheme.
02:17 He has good instincts, which really helps if you're a center.
02:21 Strong physically and a run blocker with attitude, pro football focus grades him
02:25 higher than any of the others at the position.
02:29 In round four, at number 104, James Williams, a safety from Miami.
02:35 The Bears would seem unlikely to bring back Eddie Jackson next year
02:37 at one of their highest cap hits, so for 2024, the final year of the deal,
02:43 they're going to need a starter.
02:46 They got Eddie in round four. Williams is in the same round, 6'5",
02:50 a very big safety. He weighs 224 pounds.
02:54 He's bigger than a lot of linebackers in this age.
02:57 He forced and recovered three fumbles, picked off four passes.
03:03 Round four, number 132, Bryce Foster, the guard from Texas A&M,
03:07 also plays center, 6'5", 325.
03:10 He's a road grader in the Tevin Jenkins mold.
03:14 He had a knee injury in 2022, but came back strong this past season.
03:20 So they've got both center and guard covered by taking these two.
03:25 In round five, number 141, Melachi Morthy, safety from Alabama.
03:30 Well, a handful of safeties and offensive linemen were here,
03:33 and I couldn't see taking another offensive lineman,
03:36 and there were no pass rushers, so I went with another safety.
03:39 They really need two safeties anyway,
03:42 so they can have Alabama's Melachi Moore possibly replace Alabama's Eddie Jackson.
03:47 Moore was actually used as a slot cornerback by the Tide.
03:50 He's got good coverage skills, but many projected as a safety.
