00:00 "This Congress started when I was three years old, and today I am over 60 years old.
00:09 My hope is that the Bumiputera Economic Congress is the last economic congress, and in the
00:16 future we can have a national economic congress and the whole of Malaysia, the Malaysian nation."
00:24 Senator T. Leoncur called on the unity government to discontinue the Bumiputera Economic Congress
00:30 which has scheduled its next meeting for January.
00:33 T. however, stressed that he was not negating Malay rights or even the implementation of
00:39 the congress.
00:40 Rather, he no longer wants the congress to be taken advantage of by opportunists for
00:46 political brownie points.
00:48 The former MCA vice president senator said Malaysia would not progress so long as such
00:53 congresses focus on Malay elites who abuse their power, influence and status to enrich
00:59 themselves at the nation's expense.
01:02 T., a former deputy youth and sports minister, said his concern was that the congress would
01:07 only serve as a platform for such people to enrich themselves.
