00:00 Despite the Lions escaping New Orleans with a five point victory, Dan Campbell
00:04 is aware there's a lot of things his team has to clean up moving forward
00:07 here today to explore the Lions play as of late is all lines senior writer
00:12 Vito Chirco Vito. I'm curious, what are the areas this Detroit Lions football
00:16 team must improve upon? Because Dan Campbell said it. It's a football team
00:20 that knows it's still not playing to their capabilities.
00:22 Well, first off, you look at the team defensively. All these yards allowed
00:27 since that by week. I mean, since week 10 against the Chargers, you've allowed
00:31 like 330 yards to each opponent you faced way too many yards to all these
00:36 different opponents. John, as you know, too. And then specifically on Sunday
00:40 against the Saints, you look at the second half stats. You were outscored
00:43 14 to three in the third quarter, 21 to nine in the second half as a whole.
00:49 Just not good football played by the Lions, especially defensively in the
00:53 second half of that game against the Saints. Now it was a victory, but once
00:58 again, in terms of playing a complete game, the Lions haven't done that
01:02 really since that game against the Raiders. Now, before the by week, John,
01:05 when they beat the Raiders in that game since then, they haven't really played
01:09 complimentary football. They haven't played a complete game from start to
01:12 finish. I mean, they were blowing up the Saints, as you know, right to start
01:15 the game up 21 to nothing. It looked like they were gonna roll along, just
01:18 steamroll the Saints on Sunday. Yet, they kind of obviously went into a bad
01:24 bad rut there. Offensively, too, they stalled out offensively. Defensively,
01:28 it started allowing big plays, allowed the Saints to start marching down the
01:30 field left and right, especially once again in the second half of play there,
01:34 John, as you know. And that was just disappointing for Campbell and company
01:37 when viewing that Lions game then and there, but also in the film, reviewing
01:41 it since, John, you see once again, there were many flaws, many woes. And
01:45 once again, not just defensively there in the second half when they allowed
01:48 all those yards and three touchdown drives, but also offensively, offensive
01:53 drive stalling out, not executing as proficiently in the red zone as well.
01:58 And golf was better. The ground game was good. A moderate Saint Brown was
02:02 good in LaPorta was a stud nine receptions, 140 yards. He's gonna break
02:06 some rookie records this year from a guy at his position. But still, once
02:10 again, they haven't played a complete game, complimentary football now,
02:13 specifically since that game against the Raiders, as in before the bi week
02:18 and ever since that game against the Chargers, they've really been weak in
02:22 too many sports defensively, and they've almost lost a few of these games. Now
02:27 they lost that game against the Packers. Obviously, on Thanksgiving could have
02:30 lost the Chargers could have lost the Bears could have lost even against the
02:33 Saints on Sunday. They still need to really clean up things defensively, get
02:38 there to the quarterback more often be better in the secondary. And also, once
02:43 again, the offense has to be a bit more proficient of Jared Goff under center
02:48 and specifically when the offense enters the red zone as well.
