00:00 "Oh, yum, I'm getting hungry!"
00:04 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most hilarious times
00:10 the actors lost it on Weekend Update.
00:12 "47 reindeers running up a mountain."
00:19 Number 10. Weekend Update, Jebediah Atkinson reviews Broadway plays.
00:24 As a 19th century critic, this Taran Killam character doesn't hold back with his opinions.
00:30 Jebediah Atkinson is not an easily satisfied viewer, that's for sure.
00:36 "Les Miserables! I dreamed a dream too because I fell asleep in the first act.
00:40 Aladdin! Here's my three wishes, make it stop."
00:47 But between outlandish lines, even the best make mistakes.
00:52 What matters though is the recovery, and Killam is fantastic with his improvisation.
00:58 "Did you like any of this year's nominees?"
01:00 "I haven't liked any Tommy- I haven't liked any Tony nomination ever!
01:08 You're kidding me? I got big beef with Tommy."
01:11 His delivery is impressive, especially when he moves the skit into edgier territory.
01:18 It's around the time he sets up the Abraham Lincoln joke that the comedian finally breaks.
01:24 The Atkinson role is so ridiculous, and yet Killam powers through like a champ.
01:29 "Prepare yourselves! It may not have gone over that well in the orchestra,
01:36 but it killed in the balcony."
01:38 Number 9. Weekend Update, Dr. We Notice on Trump's televised health exam.
01:45 It's not every day that you question someone's sanity during an SNL sketch.
01:50 During this skit, both performers try to maintain their composure as they discuss
01:54 President Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis.
01:57 "But he feels so good, he said 'I may be immune.'
02:00 'What is this?'
02:01 'And now he's holding rallies.'
02:04 'Yeah, who does this? He do this, we notice. We hate this, he do this, we notice.'
02:08 Host Colin Jost is the first to crumble under the absurdity of the premise as
02:14 McKinnon's silly character lives and dies with one running joke that falls apart in hilarious fashion.
02:21 It isn't long before she completely falls apart,
02:23 going as far as to step out of the character for a little bit and address the audience.
02:28 "Are you okay?"
02:29 "I'm obviously not."
02:40 Still, the memorable segment carries on even though both comedians are close to
02:44 falling out of their chairs.
02:46 "I have a lot of wigs and mustaches at my disposal, and it's a nice way to escape.
02:52 You know, it's refreshing to play a character who, um, who notice."
02:57 "Okay."
03:00 Number 8. Chris Farley as Bennett Brower.
03:03 Even with a lesser-known Weekend Update sketch,
03:06 Chris Farley still provides non-stop energy for this performance.
03:10 "I don't look comfortable on camera. I'm not savvy. I don't understand what's going on in the news."
03:20 His correspondent, Bennett Brower, loves air quotes and later prepares to fly on ropes.
03:27 The choreography doesn't quite go to plan, prompting some improvisation from Farley.
03:32 It's a chaotic moment that makes you remember that the show is always live.
03:36 "I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying! Holy shnikes!"
03:42 "Look at Kevin! But I'm doing something!"
03:46 By the time Brower takes flight, the act comes to a thrilling conclusion as the lead actor
03:53 recovers from the gaffe. Host Kevin Nealon, on the other hand, seems to be trying to make it
03:58 through the scene.
03:59 "Follow me!"
04:01 Number 7. Weekend Update - Gumby Returns.
04:15 Bringing back one of his beloved characters,
04:17 Eddie Murphy eases right into this Weekend Update segment.
04:20 "What are you doing here?"
04:22 "What am I doing here? The question, Michael Che, is,
04:26 how the hell are you going to put on a show and not have me in the show until now?"
04:31 Gumby interrupts the show and demands attention from his co-stars,
04:35 hurling insults at everyone and speaking the way Gumby does.
04:39 Admittedly, Murphy does a stand-up job at staying in character,
04:43 but we do catch little slip-ups here and there.
04:45 "All right, Gumby, Gumby, just calm down. Calm down."
04:48 "Don't tell me to calm down, trailer boy."
04:52 The two Update hosts, however, are pretty much doubled over in laughter for the majority of the
04:57 scene. Longtime fans of the show are always happy to see an SNL veteran return with the
05:02 same youthful energy, and especially when that veteran happens to be Eddie Murphy.
05:08 "I do what I want to do. I am Gumby, damn it. I am Gumby. And I want to smoke a cigar,
05:14 I smoke a cigar. I smoke a cigar!"
05:19 Number 6 - Weekend Update - Jeanine Pirro on the Mexico-United States border
05:25 In a lovably exaggerated performance,
05:28 Cecily Strong completely lets loose on Weekend Update.
05:31 "But I did take some time off recently. I went down to the most luxurious place on earth,
05:38 Mar-a-Lago."
05:40 Her take on Jeanine Pirro involves lots of alcohol flying at a particular target,
05:45 and he's absolutely gone from the first hit. The version of Pirro almost feels designed to
05:51 generate laughs from Colin Jost.
05:53 "I'm assuming you're not very happy with the job that President Biden is doing?"
05:56 "He's a disaster! Have you seen the border? If Joe Biden had his way, we'd let everyone in."
06:03 As one of the performer's finest roles, the character allows Strong to completely throw
06:08 out the rulebook. She even finds time to act out a musical finale with an extra couple of
06:13 glasses thrown blindly at Jost - and with expert timing, by the way.
06:17 "When there was doubt, I ate it up and spit it out!"
06:28 Number 5 - Weekend Update - The Iceberg on the sinking of the Titanic
06:33 Finally telling his side of the story, this chilly character claps back at his critics.
06:38 The Iceberg reveals himself to be a hysterical part,
06:42 with an amusing backstory and a whole musical career.
06:45 "It's called music."
06:46 "Your album is called music?"
06:49 "Yeah, it's called music."
06:50 "Cool, man. That's really cool."
06:57 It might be one of the more absurd details in an already outrageous skit.
07:01 Bowen Yang is absolutely fantastic with his delivery,
07:05 and weirdly makes us feel like the Iceberg has a point - all while combating the urge
07:10 to laugh like a true professional.
07:12 "Oh my god, okay, wow, okay, fine. You want to do this? Let's do this. First of all,
07:17 you came to where I live and you hit me!"
07:19 We don't think we'd be able to do the same wearing a giant ice hat.
07:26 Ending the segment with a musical performance, the comedian manages to recover skillfully
07:30 and deliver an entertaining song all in the same appearance.
07:34 "Kiss me, let's go eat some dinner. Wine me, dine me, I had an early lunch,
07:38 but I'm hungry for you, lover boy!"
07:40 "The Iceberg from Titanic, everyone! That's not my name!"
07:45 Number 4. Weekend Update.
07:48 Field correspondent Sarah Sherman gives an SNL studio tour.
07:53 Among the most unique talents in recent SNL history,
07:56 Sarah Sherman brings her own spin to this appearance.
07:59 Her antagonistic relationship with Colin Jost prompts the correspondent
08:03 to enter his dressing room.
08:05 "And this one just says 'reminder, dinner tonight with Giuliani?'"
08:10 "Sarah, I did not write those."
08:16 Showing off a collage of her face, Sherman accidentally drops a picture that she planted
08:21 and has to forego what would have likely been a great part of the bit.
08:24 "Oh, really? What's all this then?
08:29 Oh, a thing that I threw? I knew it was supposed to be a thing!"
08:35 Still, not all is lost because Jost is in stitches back at his desk.
08:40 The actress unleashes her improvisational skills
08:43 and keeps moving with the skit despite the mistake.
08:46 "Oh my god, and what do we have here, folks? It's Colin's famous intern kit!
08:51 Yum-yum! Looks like somebody messed up a Starbucks order!"
08:57 Her chemistry with the host also makes the moment that much better.
09:01 With the loose energy of this segment, it's almost impossible not to laugh along with everyone else.
09:06 Number 3. Weekend Update - Smokery Farms
09:10 For this sketch, two farmers share their questionable business model with the world.
09:15 Once they bring out a basket of their products,
09:17 it's immediately clear that this is somewhat unexpected.
09:20 "Look at that gorgeous little stinking basket!
09:25 Now I'll tell you, it's got a lot of meat. And the scent is strong!"
09:31 Staring down raw meat, both Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant visibly react to the foul smell.
09:39 They each carry on with the segment through their laughter.
09:42 "Oh, yum! I'm getting hungry! Now you are gonna love our six ounce filet mignon, okay?"
09:52 With even co-host Colin Jost giggling off-screen,
09:56 this appearance almost derailed at several points before reaching the end.
10:00 After the outcome of this skit,
10:02 it's safe to assume that the show won't be using raw animal parts again.
10:06 "You like meat, Colin? Colin? You a big meat boy, Colin?
10:10 Not closer, no!"
10:15 Number 2. Weekend Update - Garth and Kat Sing Christmas Songs - Dress Rehearsal
10:21 Always bringing happiness to Weekend Update, this chaotic duo never quite seems prepared.
10:26 By their second improvised Christmas tune, Fred Armisen and Kristen Wiig are dying laughing.
10:32 It's kind of incredible to get as far as they do, honestly,
10:49 especially when the lyrics become more and more absurd.
10:52 Armisen and Wiig find a way to break character again before Seth Meyers tries to join them.
10:58 It might just be their most unhinged appearance,
11:00 beating out other holiday songs about Halloween and Mother's Day.
11:04 "But there's no time for the nonsense.
11:07 'Cause I got a good feeling about everything they say,
11:13 but no one's gonna tell you the difference."
11:16 "Wait, I'm sorry, that's the title?"
11:19 The unrehearsed quality of the recurring bit provokes even more
11:22 chuckles from the performers and audience alike.
11:25 "But when the postman made the stamp on every postman..."
11:34 "Post Santa!"
11:36 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:40 David Ortiz's Post-Retirement Plans
11:43 Kenan Thompson and Colin Jost share a laugh in this hilarious running gag.
11:48 "I live in Boston, man. How I know what's happening in Cleveland?
11:51 Ay!"
11:54 Hollywood Minute with David Spade's Puppet
12:01 The comedian returns to perform and break for his classic segment.
12:05 "Hi, I'm Jo-- wait. Hi! I'm--"
12:08 [audience laughs]
12:14 "I was doing good."
12:15 Weekend Update on Birth Control
12:18 Church Lady arrives to talk all things Satan and crack up Colin Jost.
12:23 "I suppose you're gonna write in your favorite candidate, Satan!"
12:26 [audience laughs]
12:32 "Surprised you did that."
12:33 "I didn't know you were gonna say Satan."
12:35 "I just joked that."
12:36 "Yeah, I thought you were gonna say Gary Johnson."
12:37 "Don't make me do it again."

12:55 Number 1. Weekend Update.
12:57 Stéphane on Halloween's Hottest Tips
13:00 How can you not love Stéphane? He's one of Bill Hader's most iconic characters from SNL,
13:06 and the sketches almost always make the actor laugh.
13:09 "New York's hottest Halloween party is..."
13:11 [audience laughs]
13:23 For this Halloween segment, the performer fights laughter as he describes a number of
13:28 spooky destinations. He then completely breaks as he talks about one uniquely named club patron.
13:35 "Well, they have a Jewish Dracula."
13:36 "Oh, what's his name?"
13:38 "Sidney Applebaum."
13:39 [audience laughs]
13:43 Considering that writer John Mulaney frequently changed the script on him,
13:48 Hader likely lost it because of a clever rewrite. Still, the comedian always brings his A-game for
13:53 these skits, working through any mistakes and often embracing the urge to let loose.
13:59 "Shall we say multiple hot dogs in his mouth at one time?"
14:02 "Oh, I understand and stop. I understand and stop."
14:05 "If you understood, you wouldn't want it to stop."
14:06 "I do understand and I do want it to stop. I do understand and I do want it to stop."
14:11 "All right."
14:11 "I understand, you don't understand."
14:13 "No, I fully understand."
14:14 Did we forget a memorable slip-up at the update desk? Let us know in the comments below.
14:21 "And this place has everything. Kiwis, spud webs."
14:24 [audience laughs]
