Woman adopts cat, then comes the big surprise
Transcript
00:00 He had major behavior issues.
00:03 Very aggressive cat.
00:04 Not socialized properly.
00:05 My vet said, "You know, most people would euthanize this cat."
00:08 It's okay.
00:09 I got you.
00:10 I'm Cecilia and this is George's story for GOP's.
00:14 He was a rescue.
00:15 I got him when he was six.
00:18 I was his fourth owner in six years.
00:21 When I brought him home, it was about an hour and 45 minute drive home, and he screamed
00:26 his head off the entire way back home.
00:29 What they didn't tell me about George is that he gets very, very aggressive with his
00:33 person.
00:34 His first owner, he had really big dogs and he would play super rough with George.
00:39 George, what the heck?
00:41 He is the only cat that I've ever met that pursue attacks.
00:46 Every time he would see me go for my coat, he would attack me.
00:52 Very anxious cat, actually, but very bonded at the same time.
00:55 I have scars all over my body because of him.
00:58 George, good boy.
00:59 I decided to start training him like a dog.
01:01 And it's done amazing things for him.
01:04 I'm a foster with the city.
01:06 I've taught the violin professionally since I was 13 years old.
01:09 So I understand how to encourage certain behaviors.
01:13 George, you're doing okay.
01:16 I know the signs when he's getting overstimulated.
01:18 And now I'll just take him and I'll put him in a room by himself for a little timeout,
01:22 10, 15 minutes, and you just redirect without emotion.
01:25 Jump.
01:26 Come on.
01:27 Jump, George.
01:28 Good boy.
01:29 I always say for a behavior issue, really reward the positive behavior and ignore the
01:33 negative behavior.
01:34 I consulted my vet.
01:35 And my vet thought he would be a really good candidate to go on Proza because he had so
01:39 much abandonment issues.
01:40 I've had him almost two years now and he's much, much better.
01:44 He's very friendly with my daughters.
01:46 Just snuggle with them.
01:47 So tolerant.
01:48 Oh, George.
01:49 Now I harness train him and leash train him as well.
01:52 So now I take him for...
01:55 So we go for walks all the time and now he doesn't associate the jacket just with me
02:00 weaving.
02:01 He's very tolerant with things that are smaller.
02:03 Your babies.
02:04 George's kids.
02:05 So when I foster kittens, he's really good with the kittens.
02:09 The more you engage a sentient creature, the more they're going to respond back to you.
02:14 Look at him.
02:16 Look at him.
02:18 Bengals are spectacular.
02:19 Hello, baby.
02:20 Hello.
02:21 Bengals have what's called a glitter gene.
02:24 So when the sunlight hits their hair follicles, because the tips are actually hollow, it gives
02:30 an iridescent shimmer to their fur.
02:33 Oh, George.
02:34 I'm really lucky that he's so well socialized now that when we're walking down the street,
02:38 strangers can come up to him.
02:39 I'll say, "It's okay.
02:40 You can pet him."
02:41 I feel like I was put on this earth to be a nurse fur and so I take all the unwanted.
02:45 You're such a monster.
02:46 What have you got?
02:47 My handsome boy.
02:48 This cat, I will tell you, I've gone through an entire pup set.
02:53 I've gone through three rugs.
02:55 I've gone through multiple glasses.
02:56 But I love him.
02:59 I also accept George for what he is.
03:01 He needs to be respected on his own terms.
03:04 You're okay.
03:05 Bye.
03:05 You're okay.
03:06 Bye.
03:06 Bye.
03:07 Bye.
03:07 Bye.
03:08 Bye.
