00:00 Hello, Storm Henk has been named by the Met Office because of the risk of damaging and
00:04 disruptive wind gusts during the rest of Tuesday. It might be the new year but we've got the
00:09 same old weather patterns in charge at the moment. A powerful jet stream coming in from
00:13 the Atlantic picking up areas of low pressure. A number of lows on this chart but it's this
00:17 feature, a series of weather fronts and just to the south of the triple point where these
00:25 weather fronts meet, we've got tightly packed ice bars and this feature has been named Storm
00:29 Henk because of the risk of very strong winds across southern parts of the UK. The wind
00:34 gust graphic here with the key on the right just indicates the risk of 50, 60 and in some
00:40 places 70 or 80 mph wind gusts during the rest of Tuesday. The worst affected areas
00:45 likely to be North Cornwall, North Devon through the central swathe of the UK and that's where
00:51 an amber warning has been issued. A broad yellow warning across central and southern
00:55 parts of the UK, 50 or 60 mph wind gusts, perhaps 70 around exposed coastal parts. But
01:01 within the amber warning area there is that risk of 80 mph wind gusts for exposed coastal
01:06 parts and 60, perhaps even 70 inland. Also a yellow rain warning with the risk of 15
01:14 to 30 mm of rainfall building up during the rest of Tuesday and taking into account Monday
01:19 night's rain as well. In some places we could see 50 mm falling onto very saturated ground
01:25 of course. So, wind and rain the chief hazards across southern parts of the UK and with those
01:31 wind gusts we're likely to see some damaging wind speeds and also disruptions to transport
01:38 and some very dangerous coastal conditions across southern parts. The rain moves up through
01:43 the Midlands into Northern England as well as North Wales edging into Southern Scotland,
01:48 but the heaviest conditions will be across Northern England and the North Midlands during
01:51 the rest of Tuesday. Now, for Scotland we're going to see a band of persistent rain and
01:57 some very windy weather here also across the far north of Scotland, especially Orkney and
02:02 into Shetland. Shetland's cold but the rest of the UK about average or above average for
02:06 the time of year. Showers into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. And heading into Tuesday
02:11 evening well we're likely to see a spell of snow for some parts of Shetland because that's
02:16 where the cold air sits and those very strong wind gusts also remaining across the far north
02:21 of Scotland. But the strongest winds further south, well they ease. But it stays blustery
02:27 overnight with once the main area of rain moves through further showers coming in from
02:32 the west and southwest. The heaviest showers will be affecting western parts with some
02:36 clear spells further east. But either way because of the wind, because of the cloud
02:39 and the rain it's not going to be a particularly chilly night for most of us. That is apart
02:44 from Shetland where we've got that snow, especially over the hills. Now as we start off Wednesday
02:49 it is a blustery start with further showers coming in and even some longer spells of rain
02:54 for the likes of western and northern Scotland. But the showers further south will increasingly
02:59 be interspersed by some breaks in the clouds, some sunshine coming through. So certainly
03:04 scope for a few brighter spells certainly compared with Tuesday. It's staying blustery
03:10 though, that's going to make it feel a bit colder. 9-11C in the south, 6-9C further north
03:16 and the persistent rain continues there across the far north with a strong wind once again
03:22 accompanying it. The blustery showers continue into Wednesday evening and really it's a similar
03:28 theme into Thursday and to a lesser extent by Friday because through the second half
03:34 of the week we've got higher pressure starting to build. So finally a break in all the wet
03:40 and windy stuff but for the time being Storm Henk affects us for the rest of Tuesday.
