This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 19/09/2024. A change to much more unsettled and wet weather comes for southern areas through Friday and over the weekend with thunderstorms and heavy downpours likely. Not everywhere will see the rain but where it does fall there will likely be some disruption by the end of the weekend. Further north the east, west split continues with the best of any drier and brighter weather in the northwest. Bringing you this weekend’s weather forecast is Annie Shuttleworth.

00:00The settled September sunshine will be replaced by some pretty big clouds and a
00:04risk of thunderstorms for many southern and central areas this weekend and there
00:08are warnings in force. We've had high pressure all this week but low pressure
00:12is starting to develop down to the south of the UK through this weekend and that
00:17will drag up pulses of intense and at times heavy and thundery downpours
00:22across many parts of England and Wales. We've got higher pressure still
00:26dominating further north so still some dry weather to come particularly for
00:30northwestern areas through this weekend but easterly winds will mean that it's
00:34going to be quite a lot of cloud around across north and eastern coasts. We'll
00:38see some of that cloud drag in through Friday evening bringing a risk of some
00:42drizzly rain particularly across parts of eastern Scotland overnight on Friday
00:46night. Further south there's a risk of thunderstorms through Friday evening
00:49then that starts to ease away but by the time we get to Saturday morning a
00:53further risk of some torrential downpours arriving for many southern
00:57coasts. Meanwhile across the north and west it should stay fairly settled and
01:01dry and clear so it could be a fairly fresh start to the day on Saturday
01:05morning actually but still fairly bright and the best of the sunshine will be
01:09across parts of western Scotland, northwest England as well seeing some
01:13bright sunshine throughout Saturday morning. Further south there's a risk of
01:16these showers through much of the day they will come and go not everywhere
01:20we'll see them but where we do see them we could see some localised impacts.
01:24However away from the showers there still will be some dry weather across
01:28southern areas where we do have the warning in force and temperatures still
01:31climbing towards the mid-20s for some of us so still feeling fairly warm if not a
01:35bit humid across southern areas. Quite fine actually very pleasant in the
01:39sunshine across the north and west but the north and east will probably
01:42continue to stay quite grey and overcast across the coastal areas in particular.
01:48As I said we do have a warning in force for Saturday for much of the day across
01:52much of western England parts of Wales and much of Wales as well so where we do
01:58see these showers we could see some hail lightning and up to 70 millimetres of
02:02rain falling through the day that's enough to bring some localised impacts
02:05to travel and delays on the roads. Those showers will continue into Saturday
02:10evening as they move further north into parts of northwest England and into
02:14parts of Northern Ireland as well but we start to lose that risk of thunderstorms
02:17as we head into Saturday evening and Sunday morning but there will be further
02:22wet weather across the south through much of the rest of the weekend.
02:26Meanwhile we've still got this easterly wind and a lot of low cloud across
02:29eastern coast of Northern England and that drier clearer weather just about
02:33holding on across the far northwest of Scotland but I think it'll probably turn
02:37more and settled a bit more widely as we head into Sunday with further wet
02:41weather on the cards. We could see some further localised travel and flooding
02:45disruption particularly across southwestern areas of the UK parts of
02:50southwest Wales southwest England but also across the southeast we could see
02:53some pulses of some quite wet weather so it's really worth keeping up to date
02:56with the day-to-day forecast for more details on this wet weather across the
03:00south over the next few days but as I said at the beginning north and western
03:04areas will remain largely dry and settled through a lot of the weekend
03:08it's not gonna be quite as warm over the weekend as it has been so far this week
03:11across these areas but it's still pretty pleasant in the sunshine the winds will
03:14be quite light actually across the north and west compared to that pesky
03:18easterly breeze bringing that gloomier feel across the east coast all the while.
03:23Now as we head into the start of next week it looks like we could see some
03:27further wet weather but it probably will be a little bit more settled through
03:30Monday and Tuesday with a more widely unsettled weather arriving by Wednesday
03:35you can find more details on that on our latest 10-day trend though see you again
03:38soon bye bye
