Bears GM Ryan Poles says he'll need time to study the quarterbacks in the draft and also needs to be "blown away" by one to give up on Justin Fields.

00:03 I'll actually go back to last year.
00:09 And I got to stay open-minded about it.
00:11 But I really-- not to use the same quote,
00:14 but when I say I need to be blown away,
00:15 it's the same setup.
00:17 Because seeing the things that Justin did this year,
00:20 his ability to make plays, coach talked
00:23 about some of those improvements,
00:24 keeping his eyes on the field, taking less sacks.
00:27 You see a lot of growth that where he can continue
00:30 to get better.
00:30 So I'll have the same mindset.
00:33 Someone needs to really show that they can--
00:36 and it's not just a film.
00:37 I need the person.
00:39 There's a whole process here that we have to figure out.
00:42 But what we're going to do is do what's
00:43 best for the organization.
00:45 I'm sure there's going to be similar situations in terms
00:48 of the tradeback.
00:49 And I got to weigh all of those things.
00:50 Just stay very wide open with the different paths
00:53 that we can go.
00:54 And as we collect information, if that
00:56 closes some of those pathways down, then we'll do that.
01:00 We'll move to the other ones.
01:02 But I'm going to be wide open about this.
01:03 The player aspect in terms of the human being
01:06 and the leadership and their maturity,
01:09 and that's the human part.
01:11 And then there's the tape.
01:12 And we'll go through the tape, and we'll
01:14 look at processing and accuracy and all of those things
01:17 to make sure they're on point to feel the best.
01:19 There are situations where you go to and you develop,
01:23 and you may overcome some of the shortcomings
01:26 that you had in college.
01:28 There are situations where it's the group around you
01:31 that elevates you.
01:33 And the other thing, too, is I would also have a little--
01:37 you've got a sample size to be blown away.
01:40 In the NFL, you've got to stack year after year after year.
01:43 So historically, we'll look at those quarterbacks
01:47 that have been able to be productive
01:49 for a long period of time and mirror that, compare that
01:52 to some of the guys in the draft.
01:54 The offensive coordinator and really any good coach
01:56 knows how to adjust and adapt to the play caller or the quarterback
02:01 because you have injury, right?
02:04 You have changes.
02:04 You see it during the course of the year,
02:06 how many backups played this year.
02:07 You've got to adjust your scheme to fit the quarterback
02:12 and the skill set that you have available to you,
02:14 be that quarterback or receiver or tight end.
02:16 And the adaptability to be able to do that
02:18 during the course of a season is huge.
02:21 So that would be--
02:22 I have to separate it a little bit,
02:23 but I absolutely love it.
02:24 I mean, when you talk about building a team,
02:26 I want that type of support in our locker room.
02:29 I want those guys to--
02:30 when they go take the field, I want
02:31 them to believe in the player that they have
02:33 at that quarterback position.
02:34 I want them to believe in the person to the right
02:36 and to their left.
02:37 So I absolutely love that.
02:39 Any decision, I've got to take the emotion out of it
02:43 and look at the whole deal there.
