00:00 Newcastle United's injury problems refused to alleviate. Recently there was news that
00:05 Joel Linton could miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury against Summerman
00:09 in the FA Cup. The initial diagnosis for the injury was six weeks but the club seemed to
00:15 feel that the Brazilian might need surgery. If that is the case then he could miss the
00:18 rest of the season. It's a massive blow for Newcastle. Joel Linton really in the last
00:22 couple of weeks has shown that the midfield is completely different without him and certainly
00:27 worse the balance just isn't there without him in there. So it would be a massive shame
00:30 if he does miss the rest of the season and it's yet another problem for Eddie Howard
00:34 to deal with. Just when you think the injury problems are slowly starting to figure themselves
00:39 out and starting to get players back that's just another one to add to his list with Elliot
00:43 Anderson and Joe Willock still seemingly a couple of weeks away from full fitness or
00:48 at least getting back into training and around the first team picture. That's a massive blow
00:51 to not have Joel Linton. And of course Joel Linton's injury means that Newcastle might
00:55 be then forced to move in the transfer market. I think the club were content with not doing
01:00 anything, with content with at least going in the last few days of the window without
01:04 feeling the need to do anything, without being forced into it. But Joel Linton's injury means
01:08 the deal for Calvin Phillips is once again back in the centre of headlines. I think that
01:13 Newcastle probably won't sign him if the loan fee of £7m and obligation to buy remains
01:17 the same. I think that'll be something that Newcastle will walk away from. It's a lot
01:22 of money, especially with FFP and profit and sustainability regulations and all that. £7m
01:27 on a loan player, which would be a temporary fix at the end of the season, is big. So that'll
01:32 be interesting to see if they move on that. I don't imagine they will, but as the window
01:36 creeps closer to the end, Calvin Phillips might push for a move himself. He wants to
01:42 be in the England squad for the Euros at the end of the season. So it's certainly one to
01:45 keep an eye on. However, Crystal Palace have now joined the race to sign him and it seems
01:50 that they are frontrunners for that deal. I think Palace are under Roy Hodgson, they're
01:54 looking for a midfielder and check to Koury's absence and Phillips may be someone that they
01:58 look to. Hodgson's admitted today that they won't look for a permanent deal for Phillips,
02:03 they'll probably be priced out with that. But if they can get a loan move for him, that
02:06 could be one they do. So that's certainly a chance for it to look into and one that won't
02:11 be solved until the final few days of the window. And of course, the best way to stay
02:15 up to date with all the latest Newcastle United transfer news is with the Shields Gazette.
