00:00 Hi and welcome to today's episode of Stay Here Next where we deliver to you the best,
00:07 most exciting hotels around the world.
00:09 Today I'm especially excited because I'm here to talk to you about Buahan, a Banyan
00:12 Tree Escape.
00:13 This hotel appeared on our 2023 stay list which is our compendium of the best new hotels
00:18 around the world.
00:19 And here to kick things off is Bali-based correspondent, Catherine Ramay.
00:23 Hi, I'm Catherine and I review Banyan Tree's gorgeous Buahan Resort.
00:26 I can't wait to show you around, so let's go.
00:29 Let's go.
00:35 Bali has no shortage of beautiful luxury hotels, but this resort from Banyan Tree Hotels and
00:41 Resorts which opened in 2022 in the village of Buahan is truly unique.
00:47 The resort gives travelers the chance to experience a quieter side of the island's jungle interior.
00:52 That's because it's located on a peaceful hillside about 40 minutes by car north of
00:56 Bali's popular town of Ubud.
00:59 Without the tourist crowds and motorbikes, the area offers a glimpse at Balinese village
01:02 life.
01:03 The hotel has a biophilic design which means that it harmonizes with its green, hilly surroundings.
01:08 Pathways made with local stone wind through the lush 12-acre property.
01:13 The hotel has 16 wood-shingled bales or villas with beautiful views of nearby rivers.
01:19 What we love about the bales is their open-plan design with no doors, windows or walls.
01:23 Yes, you heard that right.
01:25 The villas at this resort have no walls.
01:28 Even so, there's plenty of privacy thanks to opaque curtains and lots of space between
01:32 the bales.
01:33 You can take a dip in your personal pool or lounge in the private gazebo or soak in the
01:38 hand-hammered copper bathtub.
01:41 One of the highlights of a stay at Buahan, a Banyan Tree escape, is the open kitchen,
01:46 the hotel's zero-waste restaurant.
01:48 The restaurant is 70% plant-based with sparing use of meat and lots of fermented preparations
01:54 that repurpose would-be kitchen waste.
01:56 90% of primary ingredients, including poultry and coconut oil, are sourced from within 43
02:03 miles of the resort.
02:05 That philosophy extends to the cocktails at the resort's open-air botanist bar.
02:10 The master of the kitchen is chef Eka Sunaria, who was born right in Buahan, and you don't
02:15 want to miss his delicious five-course dinners.
02:18 But Eka doesn't just cook amazing meals.
02:20 He also teaches cooking classes and takes guests on tours of the property's own organic
02:25 gardens.
02:46 In addition to unique culinary experiences here at Buahan, there are so many things to
02:50 do right on property.
02:51 You can explore the surrounding jungle, get a massage at the spa, visit the on-site firefly
02:56 nursery, take classes on Balinese Hindu philosophy, or simply lay by the incredible pool and take
03:02 it all in.
03:03 Check out our full review and all other reviews on our 2023 stay list in our hospitality issue
03:09 on afar.com and on YouTube.
03:12 This is really an amazing retreat like no other place.
03:15 You truly feel the jungle here.
03:17 So next time you're coming to Bali, I hope you'll think about staying at Buahan if you
03:20 can, and I hope you enjoyed the tour.
03:23 Thanks for watching.
