Leeds United: Jaidon Anthony’s tribute
Transcript
00:00 course, the goal scorer was Jadon Anthony and his goal was quite meaningful, obviously,
00:06 with the tribute he revealed afterwards to his mum. Quite a meaningful moment for him
00:10 and for his teammates around him to share that with him as well. And of course, from
00:15 a footballing point of view as well, with Dan James' injury, his appearance on the
00:19 team sheet could be certainly a bit more cemented now, couldn't it?
00:22 Yeah, definitely. It was a lovely moment. You really felt for him and stuff. He was
00:25 very brave, obviously, to appear on the matchday squad, basically within hours of Leeds announcing
00:31 it really the other week and stuff. Obviously, an incredibly tough time for him and a real
00:36 poignant moment with the celebration. It was a massive shame to see him get booked for
00:39 that. I'm not surprised there were boos and cheers from the fans when that happened
00:42 and stuff. Obviously, referee Lewis Smith, by the letter of the law, you do book someone
00:46 for taking your shirt off, but surely common sense has to prevail in situations like that.
00:50 But yeah, a lovely moment for him and stuff in terms of that celebration. But more, obviously,
00:54 getting the goal as well. That's only his second goal for Leeds, but he's only had
00:58 two league starts for him. Obviously, his other goal isn't a league, that's a cup goal.
01:02 But it should do wonders for his confidence and you're quite right, really. You could
01:06 be looking at him getting a couple of starts now. Obviously, it depends how long Dan James
01:10 is going to be out for, but he was already ruled out of Bristol City away kind of thing.
01:14 Hopefully, that's just that one game. So, that then leaves you basically a choice, I
01:18 suppose, of Willy Nantes or Jadon Anthony. We all know what Nantes is capable of, but
01:24 he really didn't do much when he was given the chance in that cup game. Anthony, having
01:30 that strike now and stuff, I just wonder if he'll start getting a couple of starts. I
01:33 mean, because we saw how many goals he scored before in the Championship and stuff, he can
01:36 definitely do it. I was quite excited when they signed him. I know, obviously, Sinistero
01:39 went the other way, which is obviously losing a massive player there. But when he looked
01:42 at the goals he's got in the Championship before and stuff, I kind of thought I could
01:46 see him doing a lot of damage for Leeds, scoring a lot of goals and assists. And it hasn't
01:49 really happened for him. But then again, he hasn't really had a huge amount of chances.
01:53 He's, as I say, just two league starts and the other ones have been off the bench. Although
01:56 you could say yes, when he's come off the bench, he hasn't actually done that much either.
02:00 But there's definitely a very good player in there. I mean, his confidence should be
02:03 high after that. It was a fantastic goal, the way he cut in and put it in the bottom
02:06 corner. A real great wing play, brilliant strike. And yeah, I mean, hopefully, he's
02:10 got a lot to offer Leeds in the second half of the season. And someone like him might
02:14 well end up proving the difference if he can really click, because obviously, the way it
02:18 is, it's Somerville and James, the two first-choice wingers. There's no doubt about that. And
02:21 obviously, we hope Somerville's back because we all thought he was rested for the cup game,
02:25 but he did have an adductor injury as well. But if Jadon Anthony's firing as well, whether
02:29 it's starting or from the bench, that could make a huge difference. So yeah, a really
02:33 nice celebration. Thoughts with him and his family, obviously. And on the field, the player's
02:38 been very brave. And let's hope he can kick on now because he's definitely a very good
