Transcript
00:00 It's mock draft 3.0 for Bear Digest and it includes trading.
00:12 That's a good thing because there's a gap to take care of.
00:16 You just sit there and talent flies by you.
00:18 Well the Bears don't want that to happen.
00:20 Sure they've got Caleb Williams and they've got another first round draft pick but they
00:24 don't have another one until number 75 and in the NFL you just don't want that gap there
00:28 because talent is going by.
00:31 There's ways to get a second round pick.
00:34 Basically it's going to take trading back up from down below and so the Bears have to
00:38 get those extra picks so they can trade back up.
00:41 Number 9 goes out and neither Denver nor the Raiders wanted to give enough to move up.
00:46 Didn't want to cough up that second round pick or even a good third rounder.
00:50 The Seahawks gave up number 78 in round 3, 81 in round 3 and a 2025 fourth rounder and
00:57 I had to give them the ninth pick and a fifth and sixth rounder from next year.
01:02 Who cares?
01:03 Future fifth, sixth, seventh rounders are not very valuable.
01:06 Especially when your team is becoming better.
01:09 These weren't second round picks you say?
01:11 Well you're right but we're going to go in the back door here.
01:14 Now you still want to keep third rounders too so I traded back again and got the 83rd
01:20 pick in round 3, number 191 in round 6 and gave up the 143rd pick in round 5 to do this.
01:27 I know that wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. from LSU was going to be there at number 19
01:33 and if he wasn't I could draft center Jackson Powers Johnson so I traded back to 19 with
01:38 the Rams to make this deal.
01:41 So now there are numerous third rounders to trade and there's next year's picks still
01:46 too.
01:47 So to get back up into round 2 I gave the Bucks the third rounder next year and a number
01:52 78 pick that I just acquired for a second round pick number 58.
01:57 That wasn't enough really so I spent the 81st pick in round 3, one of my fourth rounders
02:03 at 111 and a 2025 fourth round pick next year to get the 60th pick in round 2 from Buffalo.
02:11 Here the gap closed, I've got two picks in each of the first three rounds and still a
02:17 fourth rounder.
02:19 The Bears are on the clock in mock draft 3.0.
02:25 Number 1 of course Caleb Williams from USC.
02:28 Maybe he's not the next Patrick Mahomes but he sure does a lot of the same things and
02:33 it's safe to say the Bears passing game hasn't gotten consistently good play.
02:39 Sorry Justin Field fans but he's got to go and in the future mocks we might have picks
02:44 to use instead of trading so much.
02:47 Those picks would have come for trading away fields.
02:51 Round 1 number 19 after the trades, Brian Thomas Jr. the receiver from LSU.
02:56 He's still there.
02:58 If you watch film of him really you'd have to say he's right there with Malik Nabors
03:01 and Marvin Harrison Jr. and Roel Madonze.
03:05 Very close to their level anyway.
03:07 Kyle Kuyper grades him right there with them.
03:09 Six foot four and a half, 205 pounds, runs like he shot out of a cannon and he had 17
03:14 touchdown catches last year alone.
03:16 He comes from a wide receiver school too.
03:21 Round 2 number 58.
03:22 Whoops, so I'm one of the center here.
03:25 That's why I traded and the centers were all taken.
03:28 Really at least the centers of comparable value.
03:31 So USC safety Kalen Bullock will have to do.
03:34 He had nine college interceptions and at six foot three he's got a great reach to pick
03:38 off throws and deep zone coverage.
03:41 He needs to work on his tackling so he's basically a taller Eddie Jackson and the Bears need
03:45 another starting safety.
03:48 Round 2 number 60.
03:49 Haven't had a pass rusher yet but here's one defensive end Braylon Trice from Washington.
03:54 They could have taken him at number 58 and Bullock at 60.
03:57 It doesn't matter when you traded and you have two picks so close to each other.
04:01 He's six four, 274.
04:03 That's great size for a Matt Eberfloos end and he's known as a pass rusher who defends
04:08 the run.
04:11 So they get a compliment to Montez Sweat and maybe even added one in free agency.
04:16 He had 17 sacks the last two seasons for the Huskies.
04:26 Round 3 number 75.
04:27 Center Cedric Von Prahn of Georgia.
04:30 He can play guard or center.
04:31 Very good at center last year for Georgia and at six four, 310.
04:36 He has the size and can move well enough to block the outside zone or can gap block.
04:41 He's probably underrated in this draft and potentially could go up in round two.
04:47 Round 3 number 83.
04:48 The Bears need a defensive tackle.
04:50 The talent style available here doesn't match with what the Bears are trying to do but we're
04:55 going to try something different.
04:57 Tavondre Sweat.
04:58 Texas defensive tackle.
05:00 He looks like more of a nose tackle.
05:02 What he is is a runaway tank.
05:04 Watch video of him and okay he's no one gapper like the Bears play but he doesn't need to
05:10 get in a gap.
05:11 He makes his own gap.
05:12 Six four, 340.
05:13 A massive monster who had eight tackles for loss last year.
05:17 Get him in on first down or short yardage or when teams run against six men in the box.
05:26 Round 4 number 123.
05:27 Batting back Will Shipley of Clemson.
05:30 The Bears can use a third back and especially one that's multi-talented.
05:34 Shipley is called a Swiss Army knife often.
05:36 At 511, 210 he runs about a 442 in the 40 and he catches out of the backfield.
05:42 He also returns kicks.
05:44 So goodbye Bayless Jones unless he ever figures out how to be a receiver.
05:53 Round 6 number 191.
05:55 So Ladarius Henderson of Michigan.
05:57 Actually a guard.
05:58 He's a former Arizona State guard who will be a guard in the NFL.
06:02 He's 6'4, 315.
06:04 Was showing tremendous potential in 2022 when he suffered a very painful finger injury.
06:10 One that required surgery.
06:12 Transferred to Michigan.
06:13 Played left tackle and helped the Wolverines win the national title as an All-Big Ten left
06:18 tackle.
06:19 He'll be behind Tevin Jenkins and Nate Davis and maybe battle Jeterri Carter for backup.
