00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:02 A Peak District town has lost its last bank and two more Derbyshire banks are set to close.
00:07 The three banks are among 245 branches to shut down across the UK in 2024.
00:13 NatWest and Bakewell closed its door permanently on February 22nd,
00:18 the closure of the last branch in the Peak District National Park.
00:21 Lloyds Bank in Shirebrook will follow suit on March 25th, and the HSBC in Ripley is set to
00:27 close later in the year but the date has yet to be revealed. Barclays and Burton on the border
00:32 of Derbyshire and Staffordshire is also expected to welcome its last customers in 2024. The news
00:37 comes as it has been announced that 245 banks will close across the UK this year after major
00:43 banking groups agreed closure plans for their branches due to the increasing popularity of
00:47 online banking. A further 15 banks have already confirmed that they will close in 2025.
00:53 Since February 2022, 1,325 bank branches have closed or announced that they were shut down
00:59 permanently across the whole country. A photographer from Chesterfield has hit
01:05 the headlines in Mexico after snapping a stunning close-up of an extremely rare spider.
01:09 Joe Joyce, 49, has turned his professional lens on many subjects over the years from architectural
01:15 mosaics to motorsport but since retiring in 2017 he's had more time to focus on the smaller things
01:20 in life. The area around his temporary home in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico's central highlands
01:26 is inhabited by all manner of creepy crawlies and when Joe caught the perfect shot of one tiny
01:31 spider a few weeks ago the reaction was much bigger than he anticipated. He said "I posted it
01:36 online and it went crazy with over 1,000 reactions overnight. To my surprise it was clear this tiny
01:42 spider has very little information about it and even less in the wave images." The news was so
01:47 important that Mexico News asked him to run a story on their national press.
