00:00 We have written about and we have spoken about the phenomenon of Jimmy Johnson being back in the fold of the Dallas Cowboys.
00:10 And as we move forward and try to figure out what that all means, we have to make sure we explain.
00:15 When we talk about the advisory board and when we talk about back in the fold, these aren't concepts that I've made up.
00:22 These are phrases that Jimmy Johnson himself has used to describe his newborn, re-found friendship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
00:31 I'm Mike Fisher reporting from the Star in Frisco.
00:33 It's a significant move and it's not a PR marketing move and I'm going to explain why.
00:39 First of all, what's the significance?
00:40 It's not that there's an official committee that Jerry Jones employs.
00:44 It's not that behind this door, here you want to see this door, behind this door that they're going to paint Jimmy Johnson advisory board on the door.
00:51 It's not official in that sense.
00:53 These consultants, and I've called them Cowboys confidential consultants, and we've written about this for 20 years.
01:01 These are guys that Jerry Jones has relied on for years and years and years just to pick their brains.
01:07 And for Jimmy Johnson to be back in the fold in that regard, that's helpful to the Cowboys.
01:12 It's helpful to Jerry and Jimmy can have some fun with it.
01:15 He's not moving to Frisco.
01:16 He's not giving up the boat.
01:18 He's not applying for the job as assistant general manager.
01:22 He's available via a phone call.
01:24 I've heard some people say it's all a ruse.
01:26 It's a PR joke.
01:28 It's a marketing scam.
01:30 I'm going to explain to you why it's not using two examples, two pieces of reason.
01:35 One, you really think Jimmy would go for that?
01:38 You really think that Jimmy would answer the phone when Jerry calls and Jerry says, Mr.
01:44 Jimmy, I'd like you to pretend that we're friends and call Miami radio station and tell them you're going to be on my, what you would call it, Jimmy, advisory board.
01:54 And then they all have a big laugh.
01:56 And then Jimmy goes on the radio and embarrasses himself by making up that story.
02:00 Would never happen.
02:02 Would Jerry Jones ever do that?
02:04 Maybe.
02:05 Would Jimmy Johnson ever do that?
02:06 Never.
02:07 And here's the second part of the story that helps me help you understand that this is real.
02:11 That Jimmy is offering his services as a consultant to Jerry.
02:18 Because he's already done it.
02:19 He's already consulted.
02:21 After the Cowboys lost to the Green Bay Packers in that playoff game, Jerry got on the phone with Jimmy Johnson for over an hour, I'm told.
02:31 And they discussed Mike McCarthy.
02:34 They discussed Dan Quinn.
02:36 They discussed Dak Prescott.
02:38 As a consultant, a sounding board, just kicking around ideas.
02:43 Not with a vice president name on a door plate.
02:47 Not with an official title.
02:49 Not with a new salary.
02:50 Not with a move to Frisco.
02:51 Just with a phone call.
02:53 And, yes, picking the brain of Jimmy Johnson has always been and is a really good idea, no matter what you want to call it.
03:01 And, yeah, no matter what you want to call it, it's very real.
03:04 In Jerry Jones' office right here inside the Star.
