00:00 Come here, let's go.
00:00 She was being given away.
00:02 The woman said they can't figure out what's wrong with her.
00:04 She couldn't walk.
00:05 Nobody wanted to help her.
00:06 I was volunteering for the National Great Pyramids Rescue
00:09 and I drove to Tampa to go get her.
00:11 Hi, Lily.
00:12 Despite her having such a painful condition,
00:16 she was the sweetest dog ever.
00:18 The woman had two small kids
00:20 and she was so gentle with them.
00:22 And I remember you could kind of see it in her eyes.
00:24 She was like, "Help me.
00:25 Like, I can't get around, but I'm gonna try my best."
00:27 I thought to myself, "This is gonna be a big undertaking
00:31 on my part."
00:32 It was probably more than I could handle,
00:34 but I was committed to her.
00:36 I'm seeking.
00:37 I brought her home and my husband looked at her
00:40 and was like, "What is happening with this dog's legs?"
00:43 He thought it was crazy, to be honest.
00:46 We took her to my vet and figured out
00:49 she had bilateral luxating patellas,
00:51 meaning her kneecaps were dislocated.
00:54 They didn't go back in.
00:55 Are you tired?
00:56 Usually the dogs are born with the genetic condition.
00:59 When they're puppies, they look normal,
01:01 but when they start to grow,
01:02 that's when the condition kind of shows itself.
01:05 We got Fentus to an orthopedic vet,
01:16 who then was kind of drawing out a plan for us
01:18 to try and help her.
01:19 He didn't know for sure if the surgeries were gonna work,
01:22 but that was kind of her only option to live a normal life.
01:25 So we got her two full knee reconstruction surgeries.
01:29 Bailey.
01:30 I fostered her through the first surgery.
01:32 We did six months of recovery.
01:34 I had to physically carry her everywhere,
01:40 and she was 90 pounds.
01:42 I had to lift her up and carry her outside,
01:45 carry her while she went to the bathroom,
01:47 carry her around the house.
01:48 We had kind of like a whole blanket train
01:53 set up throughout the house,
01:54 so it was easier for her to walk
01:56 because we had hardwood floors.
01:57 Then I was physically just exhausted
02:02 at the end of every night
02:03 because she just kept gaining weight and gaining weight.
02:06 Now she weighs 120 pounds.
02:08 That's normal for them to be that big.
02:10 Then I was still her foster through the second surgery.
02:13 Even with what she was going through,
02:15 she would sit outside in the sun.
02:17 She would drag herself outside to go play with my dogs.
02:19 She wants to be loved.
02:20 She wants to be cuddled.
02:22 Good girl.
02:23 Lily.
02:28 Come on, let's go inside.
02:29 Okay.
02:32 The second surgery was another four months of recovery.
02:37 Now she's good to go.
02:41 Hey.
02:44 What did you do?
02:46 She can run, she can play, she can go on walks.
02:50 She can do all the things
02:51 that she could not do before
02:52 that I didn't even know she would ever be able to do.
