00:00 Georgia was living with some college students.
00:03 She was a baby when they found her.
00:05 They took on the responsibility of trying to feed her and take care of her.
00:10 They got in trouble because their landlord found out that they had this pet squirrel.
00:16 So they had to find a rehabber right away, and I ended up taking Georgia for them.
00:21 It took a little while to learn everything, but Georgia was being fed kitten milk instead of squirrel formula.
00:27 So when I got her to the vet, we did the x-rays.
00:30 It was a lot worse than I had even thought that it was.
00:34 She had fractures in every limb, several different areas of her spine, multiple things, all from lack of calcium.
00:41 During the time that she was with them, she developed MBD, metabolic bone disease.
00:47 I had to start her right away on an emergency MBD diet,
00:51 trying to just get as much calcium into her as possible, and nutrients, and vitamins,
00:56 and just trying to get her on the right track.
00:58 You're falling backwards.
01:00 She's doing much better.
01:03 What are you doing, Georgia?
01:04 You silly.
01:05 Her bone density has improved greatly.
01:08 She's got great strength in her upper body now, where she didn't before.
01:11 She's not in any pain as long as we continue the proper diet.
01:22 What are you doing, silly girl?
01:24 Even though her bones are stronger, she still can't do a whole lot because of the damage done already.
01:28 Is that the spot?
01:35 She can walk. It's more of a hop.
01:42 She's sweet. She's my best buddy girl.
01:51 Oh.
01:52 Does it feel good?
01:54 Once she climbs up on me, then she's ready to snuggle and play.
02:01 I worry about Georgia. I don't want her to get hurt.
02:19 She's a dwarf. She is half the size of a normal squirrel.
02:22 You're crazy.
02:23 She's loud and she's feisty, but that's all normal considering her handicap.
02:31 She knows that she's different, or at least feels that she's different, so she is always on guard.
02:36 Did you steal one of my pistachios?
02:38 Being so much smaller, it makes her feel like she has to be on defense all the time.
02:46 I love her so much. I hope that she knows how much I care for her.
02:50 You're a good girl.
