00:03 In Venezuela, the authorities of the National Electoral Council
00:13 and international observers signed an agreement
00:15 to accompany the presidential elections 2024.
00:22 Mexico requested before the International Court of Justice
00:25 that Ecuador be expelled from the United Nations
00:28 until its government expresses a public apology
00:31 for its violent aggression against the Mexican embassy
00:34 in Quito and its diplomatic personnel.
00:36 And in Palestine, the Israeli regime
00:42 killed eight Palestinian civilians
00:44 near the Ali Arab Hospital during its bombing
00:47 riots in the central Gaza Strip.
00:57 Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:59 I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:02 We begin with the news.
01:03 In Venezuela, the authorities of the National Electoral Council
01:07 and international observers signed an agreement
01:09 to accompany the presidential elections 2024.
01:13 During the meeting, the president
01:14 of the National Electoral Council, Elvis Amoroso,
01:17 transmitted to observers that Venezuela's electoral system
01:21 has given repeated signs of its strength and transparency.
01:26 Likewise, the president of the Council
01:27 of Electoral Experts of Latin America, Nicanor Moscoso,
01:31 said that the work they will do will be strictly as observers
01:35 as the results of the work will be
01:38 known by the electoral council.
01:40 In this sense, Elvis Amoroso emphasized
01:42 that the next election fulfills points of the Barbaros
01:45 agreements, including the holding of elections
01:48 in the second half of 2024.
01:55 We hope that you will accompany us in all this trajectory
01:58 here on July 28.
02:00 And with all the objectivity to present your final report
02:08 to the National Electoral Council,
02:14 your suggestions that you may have
02:16 in the course of this day or this electoral holiday.
02:20 In Venezuela, the legislative branch
02:22 of the government represented by the National Assembly
02:25 commemorates 22 years since the COP
02:27 detached of April 11, 2002, with a special session.
02:32 The address of order in the National Assembly
02:35 is in charge of the deputy, Diosdado Cabello Rondón.
02:39 The deputy affirmed that the COP was
02:41 a response and a consequence of the conspirators
02:44 from the opposition to defeat the presidents of the Fourth
02:48 Republic.
02:49 In addition, Deputy Cabello said that the COP
02:51 caused the illegal appointment of Pedro Carmona
02:54 as president for only a few hours,
02:57 but also caused the awakening of the people
02:59 in defense of President Hugo Chávez
03:02 and the sovereignty of the country.
03:03 It seems that the 11th of April, 11, 12 of April
03:14 for the history of Venezuela, seems
03:22 to have been necessary because that's what woke us up.
03:24 Here we naively believe that you could govern this country
03:27 leaving things as they were.
03:28 But the right wing that lost the election said no.
03:37 You have to take away Chávez.
03:39 You have to take it out.
03:40 And went down the road of the coup.
03:48 Alone, not alone, not alone.
03:50 The coup was led by the American embassy.
03:52 Mexico requested on Thursday before the International
03:59 Court of Justice that Ecuador be expelled from the United
04:02 Nations until its government expresses
04:05 a public apology for the violent aggression
04:07 against the Mexican embassy in Quito
04:09 and its diplomatic personnel.
04:11 The foreign minister, Alicia Varza,
04:13 stated on Thursday that at the daily press conference
04:16 of President Manuel, Andres Manuel López Obrador,
04:19 that the Mexican government is issuing such a demand
04:22 before the world court, seeking for Ecuador
04:25 to apologize and recognize its violations
04:28 to the fundamental principles and norms
04:30 of international law.
04:32 Varza mentioned, among other points,
04:34 that Mexico seeks to have the international judges
04:37 establishing the precedent that any state or nation that
04:41 acts as Ecuador did will be definitely expelled
04:45 from the United Nations.
04:47 First, to judge and declare that Ecuador
04:49 is responsible for the damage that the violations
04:52 of its international obligations have caused and continue
04:55 to cause to Mexico.
04:56 Second, the subvention of Ecuador
05:01 as a member of the United Nations,
05:03 until a public apology is issued recognizing
05:05 the principles and fundamental standards of international law,
05:10 with the purpose of guaranteeing the reparation
05:12 of the moral damage inflicted by the Mexican embassy
05:14 and its nationals.
05:16 Third, judge and declare that in case of a violation
05:19 of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations,
05:24 similar to that committed by Ecuador,
05:28 the International Court of Justice
05:30 is the appropriate judicial body to determine
05:32 the responsibility of a state.
05:36 In order to initiate the process of expulsion
05:38 under Article 6 of that Charter of the United Nations,
05:41 the United States must first declare
05:45 that the state has committed the violation of its international
05:47 obligations.
05:48 In the United States, at least three people were injured
05:51 and other five people were arrested after a shooting
05:54 during an event for the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Fitr,
05:58 west of Philadelphia.
05:59 According to the Philadelphia Police Commissioner,
06:02 the event took place at 2.30 pm at Clara Muhammad Square,
06:06 where approximately 1,000 people attended
06:09 to celebrate the end of the Muslim festival of Ramadan.
06:13 The local police showed up a few minutes
06:15 after the attack started and arrested three suspects,
06:19 including a teenager.
06:20 Among the injured were two teenagers
06:22 who were shot, as well as a third 15-year-old girl who
06:26 had been hit by a police vehicle, causing a broken leg.
06:29 Once it happened, just women and children were screaming,
06:36 everybody was running.
06:37 You don't see something like this coming.
06:39 It was just pandemonium, just wow.
06:42 And we're hearing that they were children.
06:44 They were children.
06:45 And it's a sad thing.
06:46 It's the holy month of Ramadan.
06:47 All my years of living in Philadelphia,
06:49 I've never seen nothing like this.
06:50 Let's review figures on incidents
06:57 of gun violence in the United States in 2024.
07:01 According to information compiled by the organization
07:05 Gun Violence Arshaf, there have been around 100,007 mass
07:11 shootings in the country since January.
07:14 In those mass shootings, 63 minors
07:16 have been murdered, ranging from 0 to 11 years old children.
07:21 Likewise, in the same time term, a total
07:24 of 314 teenagers between 12 and 17 years old
07:28 have tragically lost their lives during those shootings.
07:31 Let's take a short break.

10:18 The Israeli regime killed eight Palestinian civilians near the Ali Arab hospital
10:23 during its bombing raids in the central Gaza Strip.
10:26 The occupation army troops intensified their attacks,
10:29 worsening the situation in the center of the Gaza Strip.
10:32 The Havalia and Nusayrat refugee camps were victims of new incursions by the Tel Aviv regime,
10:38 in the midst of which eight civilians were killed.
10:42 Since the beginning of the siege, the occupation forces have destroyed entire neighborhoods
10:47 through the action of military units and fighter planes.
10:51 In Palestine, Muslim families celebrated the Eid al-Fitr holiday amidst shelling and famine
11:03 caused by the total siege of the Gaza Strip by Israeli forces.
11:07 In the midst of the festival of breaking the fast, marking the end of the month of Ramadan,
11:12 the Israeli occupation army launched multiple attacks on the devastated Palestinian enclave.
11:18 In this regard, at least five people were killed and several were wounded during the early morning,
11:24 following shelling and artillery attacks on a residential building and a school in the Nusayrat camp.
11:30 In addition, at least two mosques located in the camp were targeted.
11:35 Since October 7, 33,482 Palestinians have been killed by Israel,
11:41 most of them children and women.
11:43 The day of Eid al-Fitr, such an important day for the Palestinians, was marred by death,
11:55 displacements and humanitarian crisis affecting the country due to the crimes committed by Tel Aviv.
12:01 We break to God since the first day of the war.
12:03 We have been displaced. We left our homes and went to Bani Sida.
12:07 From Bani Sida we went to the schools. The Jews took us out of the schools.
12:12 And this moment we are making this rite of Eid.
12:15 Eid al-Fitr has arrived. Thanks to God we are alive here in the tents.
12:20 During the Eid al-Fitr holidays, thousands of families only wish for an Israeli ceasefire
12:25 and the occupied territories so that they can return to their homes.
12:29 We pray to God that we can return to our homes and that there is tranquility.
12:34 The holidays have arrived with the joy of Eid and the culmination of the month of Ramadan, of course.
12:39 It is not like every year. Actually, we fast the month of Ramadan,
12:43 but we do not feel the spirit of these occasions. It is not like before.
12:47 Amid Israel's threat to occupy Rafa, thousands of Palestinians fear displacement from their shelters
12:53 and separation from their families.
12:55 God protects Rafa, its inhabitants and their homes. In Rafa we have many friends.
13:01 We have been in Rafa for some time now.
13:04 If they invaded, of course we will have to flee to the area we left.
13:08 We went back to see how the situation is there, and it turns out that everything is destroyed.
13:14 We had to return.
13:15 For millions of Palestinians, the Eid al-Fitr holiday has been for years a day of celebration and family bonding.
13:22 But sadly, it is now marked by sadness to the death of thousands of innocent Palestinians,
13:27 executed by the hands of Israel.

17:12 According to a report based on data provided by the European Forest Fire Information System,
17:18 2023 saw the largest fire season in Europe since the 1980s.
17:23 In 2023, more than half a million hectares ended up destroyed, placing it among the four worst scenarios of the century.

18:08 the conflict in Ukraine and the aggression in Gaza.
18:12 The United Nations representative accused humanity of losing its moral compass,

18:29 According to the United Nations Refugee Agency, women and children in Sudan are currently facing a particularly alarming situation,

20:08 In France, restoration work continues on the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral.
20:18 After the fire five years ago, the reopening of the iconic Parisian monument is scheduled for December 2024.
20:26 Against all odds, the Notre-Dame Cathedral was partly destroyed by a devastating fire in April 2019.
20:33 The reconstruction of the historic monument is one of the most complex projects the country has ever gone through.
20:40 But in the midst of the ambition to achieve it, President Emmanuel Macron promised that the cathedral would be rebuilt in five years
20:48 and everything indicates that the goal will be achieved.
20:51 Craftsmen from various French companies specialized in ancient architecture are working on the reconstruction.
20:58 According to news agencies, the dismantling of the scaffolding around the arrow of the cathedral began a few days ago
21:06 and should be fully visible for the Paris Olympics.
21:09 Notre-Dame Cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

21:20 This Catholic cathedral was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
21:26 The cathedral is a widely recognized symbol of the city of Paris and the French nation.
21:31 In 1805, Honoris Caestatus as Minor Basilica was achieved as the Cathedral of Archdiocese of Paris.
