Myles Turner could be looking to move on from the Indiana Pacers this offseason. Could the LA Clippers be a potential suitor?
Transcript
00:00 Following their early exit from this year's playoffs, the other Clippers are looking to make a few upgrades to the roster as they prepare to make another run of the title in 2021.
00:08 We know they need to add another quality center. Unfortunately, there are plenty of options available via free agency.
00:13 However, if Clippers would instead seek a trade, a potential avenue may have just opened up.
00:18 According to Athletics' Jared Weiss, in addition to Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo, Miles Turner is looking to move on from the franchise as well this offseason.
00:27 Still just 24 years old, Turner is an interesting prospect. He's never averaged more than 7.3 rebounds per game despite a 7-foot frame.
00:35 But he's arguably the league's best shot blocking big and has connected on 36% of his 3-point attempts over the last four seasons.
00:41 He's especially effective during Indiana's brief stint in this year's postseason, averaging 15.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4 blocks in 4 games against the Miami Heat.
00:51 There's no denying he'd be a defensive upgrade over Montrezl Harrell, and his ability to space the floor would do a lot on this team's offense.
00:57 That said, there are a few factors that would probably eliminate the Clippers from the running here.
01:01 The biggest issue has to do with the assets LA could offer, the same problem the franchise ran into when trying to deal with someone like Drew Holiday, for example.
01:07 Without draft capital, it isn't easy to craft a competitive offer when other teams could throw multiple first-round picks Indiana's way.
01:14 Such a state is impossible. LA could find a way to make salaries match, and there's always the possibility of a third team getting in on the deal.
01:21 Harrell's line in trade could also return some trade assets as well.
01:25 Another big question that comes with Turner, though, is the fit.
01:28 The Clippers already have a strong starter, and he beats his Zubats.
01:31 And the front office seems high on him as well as fans.
01:34 If Turner would only be used as a backup, it doesn't make a ton of sense to invest so much in a potential trade for him, especially when there are so many quality backups already available.
01:43 LA could always trade Zubats to eliminate that issue, but his value is off the charts and the price the Clippers are paying for him.
01:49 He isn't the issue with this team, either.
01:51 The idea of adding a two-way center like Turner that spaces the floor and serves as a leader protector is intriguing for sure,
01:58 but ultimately the Clippers would probably be better off pursuing a defensive-minded backup big to replace Harrell.
