Arrowhead Report's Tucker Franklin and Jordan Foote recap the Kansas City Chiefs 26-17 win over the Buffalo Bills and how the offensive line regained confidence with the help of backups.
Transcript
00:00 another position. They're not really okay at his offensive line, but a big but here
00:06 They didn't look too bad with Mitchell Schwartz out of the game
00:08 No, the Chiefs actually did a pretty good job and Schwartz was kind of one of those things where he popped up late on
00:14 The injury report. He's a big guy
00:16 So the back can really get tweaked very easily and they kind of cut to him walking off the field
00:23 He didn't look really too frustrated or like he was laboring. So I think he'll be fine
00:28 He posted on Instagram that he's excited to get back out there
00:31 So this is something that one of those injuries you kind of monitor, but you aren't too worried about but like you said
00:36 the Chiefs kind of went with a
00:39 By-committee thing and when I saw Eric Fischer Nick Allegretti Daniel Kilgore
00:45 Andrew Wiley and Mike Remers as the offensive line for the majority of that game. I was like, oh my god
00:51 This is going to be horrible. But as we'll talk about throughout the entirety of the pod. They actually did a pretty good job
00:57 They really did and Daniel Kilgore came in for Austin Ryder
01:02 Andy Reid said he'd been dealing with a knee or an ankle. I can't remember what it was
01:07 I know it was lower body and they said they thought this was the time to give him a rest give him a rest get back
01:11 Healthy Daniel Kilgore played well at the center position and make kind of makes you think well
01:15 Wait a second
01:16 Was this bad was this offensive line bad before because of Austin Ryder cuz Daniel Kilgore came in and played well
01:21 They did have that mishandled snap early in the game
01:24 But the it was it was rainy conditions were not pristine for a lot of points
01:28 It looked like a cold wet day just look gross. It just looked absolutely nasty, but these offensive linemen you mentioned Fischer
01:36 Remers started at the left guard position and then once Schwartz got hurt they bumped him out
01:41 So he played two offensive line positions in this game
01:44 They brought in Nick Allegretti when then Kilgore was at center which who Josh and I speculated who would probably
01:51 Play the offensive tackle position because we were talking about on the preview podcast yesterday, you know
01:56 If Schwartz does miss a game if he isn't active, what would they do?
01:59 And we both said yeah, rumors would probably pop out
02:01 I think he said he probably expected to kill gore to get the start and I said I would like to see Alec ready there
02:06 Alec ready did get the start or didn't get the start
02:09 But he came in and did end up playing that left guard role with kill gore playing center
02:12 And I know both of those guys can play center, which is pretty vital
02:16 I think that's kind of why last season with Andrew Wiley getting hurt
02:20 We didn't see him active in the postseason was because Alec ready had that
02:23 Versatility to play guard and center and while he just kind of plays guard
02:27 So that's kind of beside the point I kind of chased a squirrel
02:29 But this offensive line kind of bullied this bills defensive line
02:33 Yeah, no, absolutely. The o-line did a really fantastic job at the point of attack
02:39 Patrick Mahomes was only sacked once and I don't remember him really all season
02:45 He's been running for his life. It seems like and a lot of that
02:48 We've mentioned him dropping in the pocket drifting kind of taking bad routes after getting the ball
02:53 There wasn't a lot of that in this game. And there also was a lot of good protection. He seemed calm
02:59 He seemed comfortable
03:00 He had confidence and the guys in front of him which you would think if there was kind of a patchwork
03:05 O-line in front of you last minute you'd be more worried, but my home seemed to be really calm cool collected
03:13 You mentioned that the conditions really were not good whatsoever
03:16 It was very very rainy guys were slipping and sliding all over the place
03:21 But to me and I'll touch on this here later when we go through winners and losers at the end of the pod
03:27 Nick Alec ready had a really really impressive showing and I mean nationally people were noticing
03:33 Joe Buck was noticing on the broadcast for a Kamin even noticed even though he had some I
03:40 Don't want to say he doesn't like the Chiefs. We don't want another Josh Briscoe Troy Aikman beef on our hands, but
03:47 But or whatever even he had good things to say about Alagretti, which was wonderful
03:52 So he really stepped up and then kill gore like you mentioned
03:56 He's a guy who people probably thought would be the first man up
04:00 But since he was already up Alagretti got his chance and he kind of ran with it. He had a really impressive game
04:06 Alagretti is one of those guys to the Chiefs have taken as a project
04:10 I guess I don't want to say that he's necessarily bad because he's not like we obviously saw he had a good game
04:15 I'm curious to what his PFF grade is gonna be because I'm sure it'll be a decent one
04:19 You
