Arrowhead Report's Tucker Franklin and Raven Country's Todd Karpovich preview Monday Night Football's Week 3 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.
Transcript
00:00 There's a ton of things that we're gonna talk about, but I first want to talk about the obvious with the Lamar and Pat Mahomes.
00:07 I saw you wrote a story about Lamar kind of downplaying that matchup. How do you think that matchup's gonna be?
00:12 You know, this is now round three, I believe.
00:14 Yeah, and you know, Lamar can downplay it all at once, but the last two meetings have been shootouts with these teams.
00:20 It's come down to quarterback play, you know. Mahomes made that huge 48-yard throw on 4th and 9, two years ago.
00:28 That's a game-time touchdown and a field goal, and he threw it for over 300 yards last year.
00:33 So Mahomes has really been the difference in these two games, and Lamar's got to keep pace.
00:37 And Lamar hasn't - Mahomes has played effective against the Chiefs, but he hasn't had his best games.
00:42 Yeah, I totally agree with that. I think that's the big thing.
00:46 From the Ravens' point of view, kind of seeing the Chiefs struggle early against the Chargers,
00:52 do you think that they're kind of hoping for that same kind of
00:56 result early on in the game, or do you think the defense is kind of
00:59 hoping that happens again, at least?
01:01 It's funny because somebody asked Ravens' defensive coordinator, Don Martindale, that exact question.
01:07 You're gonna watch a Chargers game, and see how they score the Chiefs, and he's like, "No, no, no, that's not indicative of the Chiefs."
01:13 But the Ravens, they need to - they need to run the ball. And the Chiefs, I think, when they win 27, they get to run.
01:19 So the Ravens really need to set the tone and run the ball, and not only just to control the tempo,
01:24 but to keep the homes off the field. You know, they need to dominate possession, and that's gonna be a key factor in this game.
01:29 Yeah, I agree. I think that's one of the big things. The Chiefs have really struggled in this run, as you mentioned, 27th.
01:35 They allowed a Chargers team to really look dominant in the run when they struggled against the Bengals, who don't have a very good run
01:40 defense either. And now they're going against a team that has probably the best rushing attack in the NFL.
01:45 They have four Justice Hills back in their lineup.
01:48 So they have four players that can carry the load, and they ran for 230 yards last weekend against the Texans.
01:53 And the thing about the Ravens, they have four running backs, so they can bring in Gus Edwards in the fourth quarter,
01:58 thrash and wear teams down if it comes to that. So that - the Ravens will look at doing it.
02:03 I think the Chiefs are gonna - they're gonna stack the line and make Lamar beat them through the air.
