00:00 And now another leaf has dropped in the wide receiver chase for the bag.
00:07 I'm Mike Fisher, your trustee and trusted reporter.
00:10 We are in Frisco, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys, where the Cowboys and
00:14 C.D. Lamb obviously highly aware of what just happened in Minnesota Vikings.
00:18 After a long wrestling match with Justin Jefferson, arguably the best receiver
00:22 in football, have just done the deal.
00:23 It's four years and the average per year is $35 million.
00:27 That makes Justin Jefferson on paper, the second highest paid player ever.
00:35 I'll make it the highest paid player ever, not counting quarterbacks.
00:38 $35 million is the biggest non-quarterback salary in football history.
00:43 And the Vikings give him the bag and he's earned it.
00:47 Now comes C.D.
00:48 Lamb and the Jones family and their reasoning or their excuses, whatever
00:52 you want to call it, on why they've waited and waited and waited on giving
00:55 C.D. Lamb $30 million APY or more.
00:58 And it's always going to, for two years, we've discussed that number.
01:02 The idea of 30 million APY.
01:04 Well, now that number theoretically just went up and the
01:06 Cowboys are out of excuses.
01:08 They talk, the Joneses do, about waiting for some leaves to fall.
01:11 Well, this is a gigantic leaf, the Justin Jefferson deal.
01:16 This obviously has ramifications, by the way, across the league.
01:19 For instance, in Pittsburgh, where they talk about, the Steelers
01:23 whisper about trading for a wide receiver like Hayuk or Debo.
01:28 Well, those guys are looking at the Jefferson contract too, and
01:32 they're going to want to get paid.
01:33 In the AFC North elsewhere, you check out what the Bengals are doing, where
01:39 they've got a pair of wide receivers in Chase and Higgins.
01:43 They both want to get paid.
01:44 Now they're looking at this deal.
01:46 So there are ramifications all across the league for what the Vikings and
01:50 J.J. just did to secure him and his long-term future in Minnesota.
01:55 Now the next shoe to drop because the leaf just dropped is the Cowboys
02:00 with no more excuses and no more reasons to not accelerate
02:05 their conversations with C.D.
02:07 Lamb.
02:07 By the way, we reported at CowboysCountry.com that on the 29th, a
02:12 couple of days ago, four days ago or so, the Cowboys did indeed kind of
02:17 hit the gas pedal at least a little bit, or maybe turn the ignition
02:21 at least a little bit on these talks.
02:23 There is a timetable, a stated one, the Cowboys would like to get C.D.
02:26 Lamb done before we get to training camp on July 23rd or so.
02:30 And of course this week is mandatory mini camp and C.D.
02:33 Lamb has sat out OTAs.
02:35 It's a holdout, even though they're voluntary.
02:38 That may change things as well too, as we move forward in the week.
02:43 In Frisco with the Cowboys.
02:44 Fish out.
