02:46and on patriots press pass i'm mike cadillac he's taylor kyle's taking you back through
02:51the nfl draft on saturday the patriots starting off round four with the 103rd pick
02:57and they bring in offensive guard laden robinson from texas a&m taylor um double dipping at the
03:04offensive line position uh after bringing in uh wallace caden wallace on on friday night
03:11bringing in another person to help protect drake may um in the long run here in foxborough obviously
03:16shoring up uh their offensive line going with a fourth off a fourth uh offensive player in the
03:21first four picks at 103 so instant reaction to uh the patriots bringing in uh laden robinson at 103
03:30yeah so before javon paper went off the board i was a little disappointed but at the same time
03:36looking with the draft you try to look two years ahead and with that in mind it made a lot of sense
03:40now with cole strange having two knee injuries last season his health status is up in the air
03:45we have no idea what that's going to look like whether this was a move that was made for this
03:48season or for the future i think city so legitimately is the future at at least one of
03:53the guard spots and then jake andrews is likely the successor to david andrews at least that's
03:57what it looks like now so looking at 2025 nick levrett and michael jordan are their current
04:02veteran depth players on the interior but the only backup you had before the selection of laden
04:08robinson was actually antonio mafi who i'm not even sure is really a great fit because he's more
04:14of a downhill guy and we know that alex van pelt loves his wide zone scheme so with laden robinson
04:20you get a guy who in college was in an offense that used a ton of different uh run style concepts
04:26wasn't a ton of wide zone but they did use a lot of gap and power schemes and they did do some kind
04:32of pulling and that was one of the best parts of his profile is that he is a very good puller which
04:37he's going to have to do a lot in this alex van pelt offense he mentioned that he's got great
04:41burst off the line which is something that apparently alex van pelt talked to him about
04:45when he went to the patriots on 30 visit um he's not the most explosive guy you know his mirroring
04:51ability there's some questions there uh also a lot of the analysis that i'm giving right now
04:56is from brandon thorne the offensive line mastermind he did a great job for bleacher report
05:01i wasn't super honestly um familiar with laden robinson before this so you know a lot of it's
05:06coming from him but that's really the rub is that explosiveness and mirroring weren't great but he
05:12does have that burst he's got elite length i think he's like over 90th percentile in arm length which
05:17allows him to shut down guys pretty early he's got a really strong punch um and he's a smart
05:22player as well so he's also got a lot of experience he's gonna be i believe 23 uh pretty
05:27soon so a trend that we've seen with the patriots and their offensive linemen so in terms of what
05:33this offense is looking for i think he is a really good fit and it makes sense we've talked about
05:37interior offensive line being a sneaky position of need initially i thought maybe he kind of
05:42reached one on the player as he was seen as more of like a late fourth round fifth round kind of
05:46guy but if he is their guy and they think you know he is projected to be a contributor and eventually
05:51a starter so you're hoping maybe he can jump nick levrette and michael jordan is one of the
05:56top depth guys maybe even push you know cole strange if he really plays well and you move
06:01cole um i still think he's a good player he finished last few seasons really strong
06:05but the consistency and the health are things that you have to worry about so uh you know with
06:10the context of javon baker i like to pick a lot more and the patriots continue to show up the
06:14offensive line and uh support drake may like they said they would so a hundred and therein lies you
06:19know the the not great reaction originally to the laden robinson pick is that javon baker was still
06:25on the board but they were end up you know able to end up landing him at 110 just seven picks later
06:29so um and especially you two said not too familiar with robinson a guy who um i feel like not a lot
06:35of people in this area were really too familiar with with you know robinson's game as far as
06:39being you know that office of guard for them but you mentioned last night they took wallace and
06:44our immediate reaction is what does it mean for the rest of the offensive line like on when who
06:48um you know stuff like that and the fact that they now went guard i think still tells me that
06:53they're not as comfortable with cole strange you know uh along their offensive line as we might uh
06:57as they might lead on and so uh it gives them someone there to you know potentially develop
07:03behind strange or if strange can't stay healthy um you can put robinson into the mix um you know
07:08within a couple games a couple games this season so and also his 30 visit wasn't announced until
07:14like the past 24 hours so literally there wasn't a whole lot of reason to even be like oh this
07:18mattress we had no idea until very recently to your point not about not as much buzz so it's uh
07:24you know it's it's a little disappointing at first but now you come out of the you know you
07:28come out of the fourth round on saturday with uh two offensive guards or i'm sorry two offensive
07:33linemen two wide receivers and a quarterback for this team five five offensive players in their
07:39first five picks uh something that i can't remember the patriot doing for a long time so
07:44uh the patriots are stacking up their board making it happen here um before we finish this up taylor
07:49grade laden robinson's way too early grade uh of the patriots selecting laden robinson at 103
07:55i gave it a b minus i feel like some people are thinking this is more cc plus range and i don't
08:00really think it is an average pick this is a guy who fits your scheme he has the experience they're
08:04clearly looking for um really his deficiencies are more technical i know like punch timing is an
08:09issue with him um like i said kind of the mirroring skills a little bit his pad level can be high and
08:14he can put himself into some tough spots but if you can fix those things with coaching and maximize
08:19his physicals tools i think it could be a good starter for you the minus comes more from the
08:23fact that he may have been a reach um based on you know where he was slated to go and you haven't
08:28seen the reports like we saw with jalen polk or it's like oh no he was higher on nfl's boards than
08:32you know people gave him credit for or like cayden wallace where you're looking at in saying
08:36he was the best tackle left especially if you're looking strictly at right left tackles where i
08:41moved cayden from a b minus to a b this i think is that b minus because i think the value may not
08:46have been there but at the end of the day man if we look back on this and the guy's a starter that's
08:50why we call them way too early grades it's the only context we have but i still think this was
08:55a solid move it's only a reach if it ends up being a bad pick but laden robinson has been a patriot
09:01for you know less than three hours now so let's give the guy a chance um so b minus it is from
