CLEVELAND -- Jaylen Brown scored 28 points, helping the Celtics bounce back and secure a 106-93 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night, giving Boston a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
“We don’t come to Cleveland for the weather, so let’s go,” Brown commented after shooting an impressive 13 of 17 from the field. He emphasized the simplicity of their strategy, saying, "There’s nothing complicated about it: Play defense and the rest will take care of itself. We could have done better, but we kept them under 100.”
Following the game, CLNS Media's Bobby Manning and Josue Pavon will team up with Celtics Blog's Noa Dalzell to discuss the key elements of Boston's win and Brown's significant contribution to the game.

00:07 Hey, Bobby Manning here. Welcome to another Garden Report after the Celtics beat the Cavs in game
00:13 three of this Eastern Conference semifinals matchup. Josue Pavone,
00:16 Noe Del is out here again. Bobby, that wasn't one of your strongest hays, I'm going to be honest.
00:19 It was some dude, it was some dude. Yeah, I mean, I get it. We landed in Cleveland.
00:24 It was 1.30am here. Yeah, we landed in Cleveland this morning exactly. Look what time it is.
00:28 Been up for 36 hours. That's just something I noticed, you know, but hey, it's been a productive night.
00:32 We're fighting third, just like the Celtics tonight. Not their best night.
00:34 For real. But, how was that? Much better.
00:39 Jalen Brown, pushing them, halftime. He's talking to them, he's in their ears, he's saying rebound,
00:45 he's saying defend. And it continues from this commentary out after game two that it was
00:49 unacceptable, especially the defensive side of the ball that they played there. I saw that as,
00:53 is Jalen Brown becoming this team's vocal leader? The guy who's just going to speak out and kind of
00:59 set the tone vocally for them? I think he has been all year. I mean,
01:03 you know, it's hard to know because I think leadership comes in so many forms and we see
01:06 a snippet of it. We see like what they say in the postgame pressers and we see maybe snippets of the
01:10 Mike Don segments on ESPN. But all year, he's been the one that's talked about himself being a leader.
01:16 I think he's named that many times. I think that's how he wants to be perceived. And certainly he's
01:20 the one that takes the most accountability and is the most kind of vocally disappointed, frustrated,
01:25 calling things out after a loss. And that's a leadership style I'll maintain. I don't think
01:29 it's the only leadership style, but I think certainly he's positioned himself as the team's
01:32 leader. Yeah. His team needs that, Derek, this way too. Someone has to do it. I think he has a
01:36 distinct voice. I do think he's one of the leaders in that locker room. And yeah, Noah, I think this
01:40 year is he's taken it to another level. People will talk about the contract extension, people
01:45 talk about the pressure, but he's coasted through it with just working hard, really just evolving as
01:52 a defender. I think that's a huge part of his game this year. That's reached new heights. And I love
01:58 what he's had to say about Joe Mazzuola and vice versa. I think those two are really connected in
02:04 a way that's kind of let Jalen just be himself. I always say this year was great because of not
02:09 only the contract, but his role, I think is much more defined. People talk about the pressure that
02:15 comes with that contract, but I look at it, it's twofold. It's also a level of trust from the
02:21 organization. And it's kind of freeing too. Yeah, absolutely. You're not playing for that contract
02:24 anymore. Right. And you know, this is my home. Not to say that Jalen was thinking, "These guys
02:29 are going to trade me," but it's just that insurance, that commitment, that recommitment
02:33 that I think really meant a lot to Jalen. Not that he was holding back, but you get to see
02:40 really who he is and doing the dunk contest and how every dunk was with a dedication or symbol
02:47 or representation of his life or his personality. I love all that because Jalen's not afraid to be
02:53 himself. I don't think he's ever hesitated since his first entry in the league, but he's sort of
02:58 like, it's been like he's blossomed little by little, right? Like year after year. You sound
03:02 like a proud father. I mean, I just, man, like I just look back at Jalen's career and I think about
03:07 like the Kyrie years, how he was injured, he came back, he lost his starting spot and it was like,
03:12 "Oh, Hayward's ready to go now. So Jalen, you got to take a step back." Jalen's like, "Well,
03:15 wait a minute, but I've been consistent." And then he just like continued to work. He didn't
03:19 get frustrated, didn't pout or whatever. And I just think, it speaks a lot to who he is as a
03:26 person. And of course, as a basketball player, he gets better year after year.
03:30 Yeah. Great one-liner here too, after the game, about the message you sent to the team coming
03:35 into tonight. I'm just trying to take all of it. I think that's what we need. I think we just need
03:42 everybody to be on the same page and everybody to come out with the right effort. And that's
03:46 85% of the battle right there. We come out and we play hard and we're on the same page and the rest
03:52 will take care of itself. We've got enough talent in the locker room to beat teams. But if we're not
03:58 on the same page and we're not playing hard, those are when we get ourselves in trouble. So making
04:03 sure before the game, we're feeling this shit around, talking to everybody, touching everybody,
04:07 letting everybody know like, "Hey, we're not here to play around. We didn't come to Cleveland for
04:12 the weather. So let's go." Thank you, Phil. Thanks, Shayla.
04:17 So it wasn't Joe Keen Noah, but it was a good one on Cleveland. This is great stuff. I love all the
04:25 vocal stuff. I love the leadership. The weather hasn't been great either, but yeah.
04:28 I think that's exactly what he was talking about. It was brutal. I think all that stuff's great,
04:33 but his play is also there right now. He's leading the offense and scoring all the ways.
04:37 We talked in our last video about Tatum, what's his job, what's he need to do for this team.
04:42 I think it's very clear with Jalen. It's funny because we had more questions about him coming
04:46 into the year about what his role would be. It's the defense, it's the scoring, it's that
04:50 transition attack. And that's, I think, one of the defining differences in this series so far is,
04:55 even in a game like this tonight, there wasn't a lot of transition play. Jalen just stole it.
05:00 Even if guys were back and set, he would just force his way through them. There were three
05:05 great transition buckets from him in this game. I feel like it made a big difference. So his play
05:09 was there too, as well as the vocal side of things. And I think that needs to be the case.
05:14 You can't just be the guy barking at everyone's ears about what they need to do if you're not
05:17 bringing a tune. He's bringing it every night. - Yeah. I mean, I loved everything he did
05:21 offensively tonight. Finishing 13 of 17 is really difficult to do in the NBA, to not ever
05:27 stray to the point where you're taking shots that are heat check shots, that are bad shots.
05:30 - He's great at that too. - Yeah. And Joe talked about this
05:33 post game. Yeah. And Joe's mentioned that a couple of times this year, but the idea that even if he's
05:37 hit seven consecutive points, he's still making the right play. And we saw that tonight. I think
05:41 he was really feeling it in the second half, drove to the basket. We had a better angle today than
05:46 where I usually sit, where you could really see the rim reads. And he threw a beautiful pass to
05:50 Derek White for an open three pointer who hadn't really been shooting well. And so that trust
05:54 doesn't waver. He's still making the right play, still making the right pass. I thought this was
05:57 one of the most impressive games we've seen from him in a really long time. And he's had a really
06:00 good season. Just stood out in so many ways. - Big game from Jalen Brown tonight. Definitely
06:04 worth mentioning. We talked about Jason Tatum as well after this one. So go check that out. And of
06:08 course, check out our great sponsors, PrizePix. Jalen's a great pick on PrizePix. - Yeah, he is.
