00:00 It's always great to be back in Croydon and it's really good to see the great work the
00:05 Mayans Consortium in Croydon is doing with young people working together, different projects
00:09 in Croydon, and not just keeping young people safe but increasing hugely their life chances.
00:16 What I've announced today is if I'm re-elected and only will we carry on funding great projects
00:21 like this one in Croydon, we're going to extend it so more parts of London can get the benefits
00:25 of our funding. I've announced today an additional £7.8 million, which will mean
00:29 more Londoners are kept busy, are kept active, are kept safe, because I believe not only
00:34 can young people flourish and thrive with youth work, but crime isn't inevitable, crime
00:38 is preventable. Many of the young people I met today told me if it wasn't for projects
00:42 like this, they'd be hanging around street corners, joining a criminal gang, getting
00:46 up to no good. That's why youth clubs, after-school clubs and mentoring is intrinsic and crucial
00:52 for us to not just reduce crime but have young Londoners having their potential fulfilled.
