Huskies men's basketball coach shares his thoughts on having a tough mentality.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, I mean, I've been the same like it's since I was a player like it's just,
00:05I don't have an ego, it's just blue collar like it's work like you gotta put in work.
00:10And it's sweat equity, it's sweat equity with our players with my staff.
00:15It's being part of something bigger than yourself.
00:19And I've just always been like that, you just get better today.
00:25And that was kind of been one of our slogans that rent is due today.
00:29I don't care how good we were last night, if we win a championship,
00:32well, you got to get back after today.
00:33And that's the only way you can sustain success.
00:37Coach, is it fair to say that toughness is a sprinkled trait?
00:41And I ask that because I interviewed a guy named Donnie Moore.
00:44He's one of the greatest running backs that ever played.
00:46Yeah, and I was very brief, ran for 200 yards at Ohio State.
00:50He told me that he ran into Bill Sprinkle in practice one day running the ball and
00:53they both knocked each other out cold.
00:55Your dad just verified that story.
00:56Yeah. Do you know that story?
00:58Yeah, no, I know that.
00:59And I know, I mean, obviously, he hit OJ Simpson pretty hard too when they played.
01:03But it's funny cuz I've had like growing up in Montana.
01:06My dad, he's one of the best athletes ever from Montana in football,
01:10basketball and track.
01:11And I mean, I've had like three or four people come up and
01:15they're like, your dad knocked me out of the game.
01:17Like he knocked me out cold in high school.
01:19And so I knew kind of how ferocious of a player and
01:23if you see him right now, like he's tiny.
01:26But I remember golfing up in Whitefish and
01:29they kind of come on the intercom and they sprinkle, force them, whatever.
01:34And this guy came up to me and he's like, are you related to Bill Sprinkle?
01:38He's like, yeah, and I'm completely drawn a blank, but it was his coach here.
01:43And he said, your dad is the toughest player I ever coached.
01:47Came up to me on the tee box and it's just something like I'll never forget.
01:50And he's like, no, he's like, you don't forget players like that.
01:54And that's just kind of, that's how I grew up.
01:57I wish I was as tough as him.
01:58But I will say this, he's not as tough as my mom.
02:01My mom's from Butte, Montana.
02:03If you know that, don't mess with girls from Butte, I'll tell you that.
02:07Did you play football?
02:08Yeah, I did.
02:09Up until my senior year, I got hurt in track my junior year.
02:12So I wasn't able to play anything summer, basketball, and
02:16then obviously the football season.
