01:17 the favorite for the overall
01:19 and the favorites for the opening stage as well.
01:21 Eventually, after a bit of a 10 kilometer battle
01:31 to get in the breakaway, six riders did get up the road.
01:34 (upbeat music)
01:37 The first of the battles then
01:45 at the Bezzano di San Pietro climb
01:47 with the fast finishing Italian, Filippo Fiorelli

01:53 the Catfall climb in first place.
01:55 Three points then to Fiorelli
01:57 off in pursuit of the King of the Mountains competition.
02:00 But the bunch were keeping the breakaway
02:02 on a very, very tight leash.
02:05 Then at the first of the bonus sprints
02:07 at Moriondo Torinese, it was Fiorelli again
02:10 who won the first of the bonus sprints.
02:12 And still, UAE Team Emirates for Tadej Pogacar
02:16 were keeping the breakaway very tightly controlled.

03:24 among others, including Robert Hesink,
03:26 as the peloton started to break up under pressure.
03:29 They hit the climb, Lilian Cagnan aiming to get to the top
03:32 of the Colle Maddalena on his own
03:34 and claim the King of the Mountains jersey on stage one.
03:37 Trouble for Romain Bardet,
03:38 but ahead another Frenchman was within touching distance
03:43 of the King of the Mountains jersey,

04:11 over a chase group, including Damiano Caruso.
04:14 And Tadej Pogacar then on the Pivio di San Vito climb
04:18 attacked from almost the bottom.
04:20 One by one, he picked off the riders ahead of him
04:26 and Tadej Pogacar though, could not shake off
04:28 the Ecuadorian national champion from the Unidos Grenadiers,
04:31 Jonathan Navas.
04:32 Navas sticking to the wheel of Tadej Pogacar
04:36 over the top of the last difficulty
04:38 with three kilometers of the race to go.
04:40 And in the final few hundred meters,
04:41 they were joined by Max Schachmann of Bora Hansgrohe.
04:44 He opened up his sprint first, Pogacar responded,
04:46 Navas came off the wheel and out sprinted
04:49 both the other riders to take a famous victory in Turin
