00:00 In this hospital in Gaza, the wait is interminable
00:03 and there are so few places to go for treatment.
00:06 This little boy was blinded by shelling.
00:08 The care he needs is not possible here.
00:11 Doctors say he needs to go abroad
00:13 by crossing the Rafah border into Egypt.
00:16 "He has the right to treatment.
00:18 He has the right for medical care.
00:20 We hope that you will be able to open the Rafah border crossing
00:23 for the humanitarian cases
00:25 so that they can receive treatment
00:26 and be provided with medication
00:28 so the boy can once again see with his eyes."
00:30 Prior to Israel taking control of the Rafah crossing
00:33 towards Egypt on May 7th,
00:35 it was a vital route for desperately needed humanitarian aid into Gaza.
00:39 Now empty trucks wait on the Palestinian side
00:42 while aid piles up on the Egyptian side.
00:45 Israel has blamed Egypt for the closure
00:49 but Cairo in turn said this was a desperate attempt to shift blame.
00:53 Human rights groups say the blockade has aggravated
00:57 an already horrific situation
00:59 where famine and death have become the status quo
01:02 and basic needs such as water, sanitation and medicine are being withheld.
01:07 "We are in an almost mission impossible situation
01:11 as humanitarian organizations to do our work today
01:14 and we remind constantly the parties of their legal obligations.
01:19 What we need to see now is of course
01:22 crossings, reopening and massive humanitarian assistance getting in."
01:27 The EU's chief diplomat called on Israel
01:29 to refrain from further exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation
01:34 and to reopen the crossing in Rafah
01:37 so that at least some aid can begin trickling in again.
