00:00It was already going to be a jam-packed Friday morning live right here all
00:07across the sports grid network but it got even wilder in the last hour. A
00:13chaotic scene where we begin in Louisville, Kentucky. Outside of all
00:18Holla Golf Club of course the site of the 2024 PGA Championship. Round number
00:24two was supposed to start by the time we went live on this Friday morning but DRS
00:29because of a bus accident outside of the entrance to the golf course a large
00:34traffic jam and this morning some more chaos. Scotty Scheffler has been detained
00:40by Louisville police and is headed to jail. World number one golfer Scotty
00:47Scheffler has been detained by police and is headed at this moment to jail. You
00:53saw the report there from ESPN's Jeff Darlington who was live on the scene
00:58with a breaking news tweet and report that caught everybody off guard. As the
01:04story goes Donnie, as the reporting has played out from Jeff Darlington, because
01:09of this bus accident outside of Valhalla there was a traffic jam. There was only a
01:15way for golfers to get into the entrance of Valhalla. Scotty Scheffler was making
01:20his way in. A cop did not believe that Scheffler had the right to be where he
01:24was not recognizing or understanding who was the driver of said vehicle and
01:30detained Scotty Scheffler. Again a chaotic and wild scene on the Friday
01:37morning of round number two at the PGA Championship. Yeah just tweeted out I
01:41believe this is probably a beat writer here Gabby Herzig says she's told by PGA
01:44of America official that the situation with Scotty Scheffler is ongoing and
01:48they are not in a position to confirm the status at the moment which is wild.
01:51This is a major event here it's like the Super Bowl right it's a major
01:54championship we don't know what's going to happen but also let's keep in mind
01:57this there's supposed to be you know thought process in place of how this is
02:02supposed to happen and get there because we see it so many times there's baseball
02:05players there's hockey players there's football players if there is a large
02:08crowd if there is a crash that's on a highway you know a lot of the times the
02:13players who might be in that you know not the crash itself but sitting there
02:16waiting in traffic you wave down an officer hey I'm so-and-so trying to get
02:20to the event here they immediately get right on there throw in the highlights
02:23and drive right by and escort you into the stadium this seems to be like one of
02:26those things Ben where it's just you know unfortunate that it happened but
02:29did we over escalate the situation because it would have been pretty simple
02:33driving a car that says official PGA Tour car hey look what are you trying to
02:37do buddy I'm Scotty Scheffler I'm trying to get to the event okay let me get
02:40through there so I don't know how this actually transpired and also this isn't
02:43one of those things where you look at Scotty Scheffler like man we know he's
02:46over emotion on the golf course he probably just lost his cool Scotty
02:49Scheffler's cool as a cucumber out there I doubt he overreacted to the
02:52situation at this point but this is something we did not anticipate on a
02:55Friday morning and even at the fan blue sportsbook we are handicappers and
02:59gamblers here that line is on the move right now and you got to be honest if
03:02you're a golfer and they made your championship you need to be locked in
03:05you're no longer if you even play today how is that going to impact your on
03:09course play where you wanted to work out this morning you want to get on the
03:12putting green you want to hit the driving range and you can't do any of
03:14that and you're gonna pull up to the first tee ready to go this is an
03:17interesting involving situation right now as Donnie said there was some sort
03:22of misunderstanding with the traffic violation that was in place this stems
03:28unfortunately from a bus accident outside of Valhalla early on this Friday
03:33morning that involved a fatality that's why there was the presence outside of
03:38Valhalla Scotty Scheffler was placed into handcuffs Jeff Darlington again of
03:44ESPN live on the scene took a video with what appears to be his phone where
03:49police officers come up to him to ask him to clear out of the way they say to
03:54him there's nothing you can do he is going to jail there is nothing you can
03:59do as Jeff Darlington reported another police officer came up to him and said
04:04can you tell me the name of the person we just arrested that would be world
04:10number one Scotty Scheffler again because of the unfortunate accident
04:16outside of Valhalla there was already a delay to round two tee times for
04:21everybody in this second round of the 2024 PGA Championship
04:25Scheffler for instance was scheduled to go off at 848 a.m. Eastern Time for
04:31round number two that had already been pushed back by over an hour to 1008 a.m.
04:36Eastern Time any further details about play today Scotty Scheffler situation we
04:42will bring you but again DRS not something that I expected to lead off
04:47the show on this Friday morning on the early line no certainly not and that's
04:51what we're here for this updated information we want to bring this to you
04:54live to keep you updated on the situations we'll talk a lot of golf
04:57during this episode of the early line but we have to be said this is something
05:00we haven't seen before and has been pointed out which is really key this
05:04isn't something that you can really push back too much here if you miss
05:07your tee time you are disqualified and as we know it's a major championship
05:11nobody wants to see that but there is no wiggle room here either Ben it's not as
05:14if he's going off at 230 in the afternoon we can get all this process
05:17and he can get back to the golf course with a decompress and maybe go through
05:20his pregame or let's just say pre round stuff he likes to do this is an early
05:25tee time here that was pushed back just a little bit there's not a lot of room
05:28to get going here I to be honest I wouldn't surprise I wouldn't be
05:31surprised if he does pull out of the scoff board at this point speculation
05:34at this point obviously but my goodness right right I mean there's a lot of
05:38things that will happen there's just the clerical logistics of having to be
05:42detained by a police officer in making your way to jail again we don't know any
05:48further details at this time and I would not be surprised if we do not get
05:52provided further details in a little bit there is the humor of this but there is
05:57also the very serious nature from the odds perspective here's what we have
06:02live right now on the fan duel sportsbook in round number one Scotty
06:06Scheffler a solid opening 18 holes for under par 67 five back of Xander Shoffley
06:14who paced the entire field with a PGA Championship record score of 62 on
06:20Thursday Xander is 9 under but Scotty Scheffler the pre-tournament favorite at
06:25a four-to-one number after a solid opening round remained at that price a
06:29little bit behind Xander Shoffley entering Friday morning because of this
06:34situation the odds makers have moved back that price on Scotty Scheffler it
06:39is now plus 600 third best number behind Xander Shoffley and Rory McIlroy that's
06:44the odds component obviously there is so much more to it than just that an update
06:49though DRS from the PGA Championship and its official Twitter account in the last
06:5325 minutes play of round number two will begin at 835 a.m. Eastern so that
07:00is about 30 minutes from right now all round two starting times are delayed one
07:05hour in 20 minutes from the originally published time spectator gates will open
07:11at 8 a.m. there will be a lot that needs to be decided for Scotty Scheffler and
07:17this specific situation in the next hour and a half now also the situation that's
07:23you know it's good that somebody that was in the media was on the scene to
07:26sort of detail as opposed to getting just second-hand information that we
07:29have no idea what we were looking at or even what happened but apparently here
07:33the interesting parts going to be is like if you are detained at this point
07:36you got to go to the police station you got to get processed through you got to
07:38come back and like you're already shaken up at that moment but also let's see
07:42what actually happened at the scene because as Jeff Darlington was
07:45reporting it wasn't as if Scotty Scheffler's going 75 miles an hour down
07:48on the side of the road here and not waving anybody by in an unmarked car he
07:52was in a PGA Tour car which had the insignia on the outside and it said when
07:57the cop came over to ask him a question Scotty Scheffler's car moved 10 yards if
08:01anybody puts that in football terms it's a first down it's not as if Scotty
08:04Scheffler drove a quarter mile up the road and didn't heed anybody's warnings
08:07at this point so a lot of overreaction at this point and also right if you do
08:11arrest him and put him in cuffs and put him in the back and they say okay that's
08:13Scotty Scheffler hey look Scotty you can't do that here you know we normally
08:17process you at this point we understand it's a crazy situation out front you
08:20know get in there sorry this have to happen we'll send you a ticket or
08:23something like that I think it's an overblown situation and quite frankly
08:26we haven't seen before it is absolutely overblown but it is the current
08:32situation that we are in to Donnie's point Scotty Scheffler did stop his
08:38vehicle short of the entrance of Valhalla reported by Jeff Darlington and
08:43did not over aggravate any bit of this situation and yet it has led to his
08:49detainment and being placed in handcuffs at this moment.
