00:00:00Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07Hard hats, lunch pail, steel tool, boots.
00:00:09Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:11Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:00:18Can I pull the John?
00:00:19What are we apologizing for?
00:00:20What did we say?
00:00:21What did we do?
00:00:30There we go.
00:00:31What's going on, guys?
00:00:33Welcome in, Garden Report peeps.
00:00:34Bobby Manning at the garden.
00:00:37He's got work to do, so I'm going to let him go soon.
00:00:39We're going to get Bobby's take on things.
00:00:41Sherrod Blakely here as well.
00:00:42Josue Pavone.
00:00:43Yeah, we might see him.
00:00:46But here we are.
00:00:48Another one in the books, 126-110.
00:00:51This has officially gone from, hey,
00:00:53this is going to be a competitive series.
00:00:55The Pacers are tough to, well, the Pacers
00:00:58are pesky to now it might be Halliburton's out
00:01:02and this one is a cakewalk and Celtics should sweep or win
00:01:06this one in five.
00:01:07So it was fun having the playoffs
00:01:09for a full game, which is what we did in game one.
00:01:13But it's over.
00:01:13Book your tickets to the finals, guys.
00:01:15Book one for each city.
00:01:17We don't know Dallas or Minnesota, but this is over.
00:01:21It's hard to not start with Halliburton.
00:01:23Halliburton supposedly tweaked his hamstring.
00:01:26If he injured the same hamstring,
00:01:29if he did anything to a hamstring,
00:01:30it's hard to see him playing anytime soon.
00:01:33Even a minor aggravation is going to be a few days
00:01:36and I think it's going to be too late here.
00:01:38So we'll see what happens.
00:01:39But Bobby, give us your take on the game here
00:01:42and then we'll do a eulogy for the Pacers
00:01:46here because they might be cooked.
00:01:49Yeah, I'm not going to do that before it flips home court.
00:01:51Certainly if Halliburton's out, you're going in that direction.
00:01:55But they're getting up every time the Celtics go up
00:01:58double digits there.
00:01:59And they faded late in that game.
00:02:00You really saw it the moment it happened
00:02:02when they left Pritchard wide open in the corner for three
00:02:04and just gave up on that defensive play.
00:02:07And the Celtics didn't.
00:02:08Off of a make.
00:02:10Off of a make, yeah.
00:02:11How does that happen?
00:02:13The whole right side of the court was open.
00:02:15It wasn't just Pritchard.
00:02:17The whole right side of the court
00:02:18didn't have a person on it.
00:02:20It was like they're carving out a new neighborhood.
00:02:24There was nobody there.
00:02:26Yeah, especially since they had performed better defensively
00:02:30than you would have thought in the series up to this point.
00:02:33So they were competitive for two and a half quarters.
00:02:37Again, you trail after one, you give up
00:02:39that bad run in the halftime.
00:02:41But the third, Celtics, much different.
00:02:44They let Brown take control of the offense, which
00:02:47I think was smart given what he was doing compared
00:02:49to what Tatum was doing.
00:02:51He showed an appropriate level of aggression
00:02:53getting downhill, getting on transition.
00:02:56Interesting, again, and it was no surprise
00:02:57because the Celtics talked a lot about it.
00:03:00They're going to embrace the pace of this series.
00:03:02And so far, they're the most efficient, effective transition
00:03:05team, despite the pace of being known for that.
00:03:08So I think that's a feather in Joe's cap.
00:03:09Of course, you finally see them go small here,
00:03:12as we've been begging them to do.
00:03:14I know Shea Brissett gave them an excellent game
00:03:16after not playing since probably March at this point.
00:03:21So for him to come in there and do what he did was important.
00:03:23Pritchard, who was very tough on himself this morning,
00:03:26said he went back in the film and saw that he
00:03:28wasn't in rebounding position.
00:03:29He had a bad defensive game in game one.
00:03:31Really gave a lot of criticism of himself
00:03:34at shootaround this morning.
00:03:35Came out when, whether it was those offensive rebounds,
00:03:38the three you mentioned, he had one in the first half
00:03:41as well as a big one in the second half.
00:03:43Went right to the rim after that wide open three they gave him.
00:03:46And then got two offensive rebounds
00:03:48that set up a Tatum three-point play to start the fourth.
00:03:50So I thought Pritchard was excellent, too.
00:03:51Big bounce back game for the bench overall here.
00:03:54And I didn't get too hurt by Indiana's in this one,
00:03:57I thought.
00:03:58You limited Halliburton.
00:04:00Siakam was out of this world to start the game,
00:04:03and they stayed with it.
00:04:04It looked like they adjusted and put Brown and Tatum
00:04:06on a little bit more after that 12-for-14 start.
00:04:09So you saw him down more there.
00:04:11And it was off to the races from there.
00:04:14We've got a lot.
00:04:15We're going to hit JB absolutely with the all-NBA FU
00:04:20game following his snub.
00:04:21Jason Tatum, a lot to be not happy about.
00:04:26And then the Luke Cornett injury and the ripple effects
00:04:29and some small ball.
00:04:30We'll get to that.
00:04:31But here's Joe Mazzulla right now.
00:04:36Uh-oh, Joe doesn't sound good.
00:04:38We're going to remove that.
00:04:39Joe's a little muddy right now.
00:04:41We'll get to Joe in a little bit and see if we can fix that.
00:04:44Hold on, let me tell those guys.
00:04:46Yeah, that was gross.
00:04:48Ew.
00:04:48Yeah.
00:04:52OK, we'll check on that in a little bit there on Mazzulla.
00:04:55Maybe we can jump back in and listen to some of that.
00:04:57But let's get to some of these things in order of everyone's
00:05:01going to be like, talk about JB.
00:05:03Yes, Brown was ridiculously good tonight.
00:05:06So we'll lead with Brown so everyone
00:05:08doesn't freak the hell out because it's fine.
00:05:13Because it's fine.
00:05:15But he was kind of everything here.
00:05:21First half, third quarter, he really did everything
00:05:24that you needed to do.
00:05:25It's a story in the bios for him.
00:05:26Yeah, he's been incredible.
00:05:28And right now, and again, for all the people
00:05:30that don't talk about Jalen in the chat,
00:05:32no, we talk about what's interesting, OK?
00:05:35We do.
00:05:36We talk about what's interesting.
00:05:37But a lot of us, myself included,
00:05:39picked Jalen Brown as the conference MVP
00:05:42before the conference finals MVP.
00:05:44Wave the flag, John.
00:05:45Wave that flag.
00:05:47So I'm going to tell you what I'm about first.
00:05:50I want to quickly say, as we welcome you into the Garden
00:05:53Report, we're brought to you by PrizePix, America's number
00:05:56one fantasy sports app.
00:05:58And of course, Game Time, the number one ticket marketplace
00:06:02out there, mobile ticket marketplace app.
00:06:07So we just want to give a quick shout out to our sponsors here.
00:06:10Bobby, let's start with Brown, who did everything
00:06:13that Brown does well, which is be decisive, attack,
00:06:17hit ridiculously tough shots.
00:06:19I thought his decision making was off the charts tonight.
00:06:21I don't think he forced.
00:06:23I mean, look, a lot of his shots look forced
00:06:26because he's used to taking these contested pull-ups that
00:06:28are really only he can do, and he can do well.
00:06:31But a lot of his attacks, when he went towards the basket,
00:06:34if it wasn't there, he stopped.
00:06:36There wasn't a lot of forcing from him tonight.
00:06:38Everything was just really in the flow.
00:06:40Yeah, and you saw him start to creep in that direction
00:06:43at the start of the third.
00:06:44Kind of got jammed up on the ball,
00:06:46isolating a little too much there,
00:06:48and then passes to his left to get White a three that
00:06:51led to, I think, 10 points for White in that third quarter.
00:06:54So he was able to get a dump off past the percept of the dunk.
00:06:57In that quarter, again, not a maestro facilitating
00:07:00performance by any means here with the two assists.
00:07:02But once it was clear, he was the one
00:07:05that was sort of attacking head-on every time,
00:07:07and the pace was adjusted a little bit to that.
00:07:09He was able to get a couple of good assists
00:07:11there at the start of the third that sparked their runaway
00:07:15quarter there.
00:07:15So he was big in the second.
00:07:17They go in that 17-0 run.
00:07:19Big part of that.
00:07:21We've got Brett Hampton here.
00:07:222-0!
00:07:24Hey, Brett.
00:07:25Hey, real quick, I'm going to listen for Joe here.
00:07:29No.
00:07:31How has he evolved as a player?
00:07:32What's with the mics, Joe?
00:07:35Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:07:36Yeah, tell him this is him.
00:07:38I thought it was Gary.
00:07:39Nope.
00:07:40Sorry, guys.
00:07:40We hear Gary's voice, but we don't know what he's saying.
00:07:43Yeah, it's Gary.
00:07:43Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:07:45It's the Charlie Brown teacher.
00:07:46No good.
00:07:48No good.
00:07:49Yeah, but the key here, John, they went up by 13
00:07:54a couple of different times.
00:07:55The pace was answered at every time.
00:07:57Then finally in the third, by involving White,
00:07:59by going small, they were able to pull away and extend
00:08:03that run into, again, not a 20, 30-point lead here.
00:08:07But you can't expect that against this team.
00:08:09To keep them at arm's length like they did,
00:08:11what are we talking, like 14, 15, 16 at the end of this game?
00:08:15I think the biggest lead was, let's see
00:08:17what it got up to here, 20?
00:08:2219 or 20, something like that, yeah.
00:08:25That's what you're looking for.
00:08:26Keep them at arm's length.
00:08:28Sustain your runs.
00:08:29Limit theirs.
00:08:30Because they're going to keep coming back.
00:08:34What frustrated me early in this game, John,
00:08:36and we talked about in the text chain,
00:08:38you go on that great run at the start of the second.
00:08:41You give up a 7-0 run right away.
00:08:43You build up another 13-point lead midway
00:08:46through the quarter.
00:08:47You relax to end the second and give up the 8-1 run,
00:08:50including the Siakam wide-open runway dunk
00:08:53right before the buzzer.
00:08:55So that was frustrating in the first half.
00:08:56They didn't do that in the second half.
00:08:58They just kept attacking.
00:08:59Obviously, Brown's approach is a big part of that here.
00:09:03And listen, I'm not going to give him a ton of credit
00:09:05tonight, but I do say Tatum deferring to Brown
00:09:10was important midway through the game.
00:09:12And then once the ball naturally got to him,
00:09:15he took advantage of that later.
00:09:18The whole start, actually, I'm going to try one more time.
00:09:20I'm being told by the crew here.
00:09:21His presence, his energy, his athleticism just gave us,
00:09:25you know, I think he had a dunk, got a steal,
00:09:27got us out in transition, a couple rebounds.
00:09:29So just he plays with such a high level of intensity
00:09:32and energy.
00:09:33It's big for us.
00:09:36Joe, to take care of home court and go on the road,
00:09:38a place where you've been successful this postseason
00:09:41with a 2-0 lead, what does that do for the confidence
00:09:43of the group?
00:09:46I don't know.
00:09:46I know we should, the only thing we should be thinking about
00:09:48is they were down 2-0 a series ago,
00:09:50and they brought the game 7.
00:09:51And they do a great job protecting their home court.
00:09:53They're undefeated at home.
00:09:54So it's going to take a lot more than confidence
00:09:55to get the job done.
00:09:56And we have to focus on the details and the execution
00:10:00and the mindset, the things that go into playing
00:10:01against a team like this at home.
00:10:03And I know they're going to respond.
00:10:04And so it's up to us to do the same.
00:10:07Thank you, Joe.
00:10:07Thanks.
00:10:11All right, Joe Mazzullo there.
00:10:14Yeah, I'm going to head out shortly,
00:10:16but I'm not ruling Indiana out either.
00:10:21Similar to what Joe said there, you can't.
00:10:23Like the second you think they're done,
00:10:25the second you relax and sit back and rest
00:10:28on a one run or two runs or two quarter wins,
00:10:31whatever it is, they're just going to keep attacking.
00:10:33And they're so relentless going to the paint
00:10:35that any level of relaxing defensively
00:10:38lets them right back into a game.
00:10:39So you can't do it.
00:10:41And again, Halliburton's out.
00:10:43It looks pretty murky for them,
00:10:45but they've won their minutes this season
00:10:48without Halliburton on the floor,
00:10:50namely because of adding Siakam.
00:10:52So you can't rule Indiana out.
00:10:54You can't.
00:10:56You've got to keep attacking.
00:10:57You actually have to go and close this series out.
00:11:00And they've done that in other series,
00:11:02especially going on the road.
00:11:07Did we just lose?
00:11:08Oh, there Bobby's for real, though.
00:11:10Why can't you?
00:11:11Why can't you?
00:11:12Why can't like if Halliburton's out?
00:11:16This is I mean, fine.
00:11:18Hunter's chance.
00:11:19Absolutely.
00:11:20This is this is a team that had to play above its level
00:11:23to stay competitive or hope that the Celtics kind of reverted
00:11:26back to, you know, you know, their their crappy habits
00:11:30or getting into their ISO ball or whatever it is.
00:11:33But this is a really tough one.
00:11:34And I know we we say this and we're not stupid.
00:11:37We know already, Sherrod, we saw this happen.
00:11:41The last time when they played the Pacers and Halliburton
00:11:43goes out with the original hamstring injury
00:11:46and the Celtics were up big and they pissed away a monster lead.
00:11:49So we saw it happen in one game.
00:11:52Fool me once. Right.
00:11:53I don't think that's going to happen again.
00:11:54No, no, I don't see that.
00:11:56If Halliburton is out, it's a wrap.
00:11:58It becomes a matter of when, not if the series is over.
00:12:01Exactly, exactly, exactly.
00:12:02But, you know, to Bobby's point, they're not going to just roll over
00:12:06and just play dead. That's just not who they are.
00:12:08No, they're not built that way.
00:12:09They in this game, usually when a Celtics
00:12:13win a game like this, where there's in the playoffs,
00:12:15we've seen the other team have certain things that work well
00:12:19in the feet that they could build on.
00:12:21And I didn't see that in this game.
00:12:23I didn't see. I mean, Pascal.
00:12:24I mean, he's a former all star.
00:12:26This guy's won a championship.
00:12:27So him going off is nothing unusual.
00:12:29He's done that before.
00:12:31There wasn't anything that jumped out in this game near the end
00:12:34that makes you think that, man, if Indiana could do that one thing better,
00:12:37maybe they can make this a series.
00:12:39And that's a problem for them.
00:12:41Listen, when they blew game one, they blew the series.
00:12:44They absolutely blew the series because now they are going back home
00:12:49with zero margin for error.
00:12:52And you may very well be without your best player.
00:12:55And you're playing a team that is seemingly at their best on the road.
00:13:00So when you start looking at all the different factors
00:13:03and all the different analytic points that you can look at going into game three,
00:13:07it's looking more like this thing is going to be three.
00:13:09Oh, by the end of this weekend in Celtics.
00:13:13Yeah, yeah. It's again, I.
00:13:20I don't know what people want here.
00:13:21Like, do we want to say it's not over?
00:13:23I like, as you said, it's not over, but it's it's not.
00:13:27It because it's a matter of when, not if.
00:13:30This was a massive uphill challenge here for Indy to begin with.
00:13:35So again, we'll see what happens.
00:13:37Here's the thing.
00:13:38If something's bad enough for a guy to miss the rest of the game,
00:13:41almost immediately be ruled out.
00:13:43Usually they don't come back one game later.
00:13:46And I think I said is you really don't have cushion here.
00:13:48If you can't get him back, you know.
00:13:51You know, you can't get him back by game three, you're in a lot of trouble.
00:13:56And it felt that Rick Carlisle waved the white flag
00:13:59way earlier than his teams normally do.
00:14:02I mean, you know, when all of a sudden when I see Doug McDermott out there,
00:14:05I'm thinking like, oh, my gosh, I think most people forgot he's still in the league.
00:14:10And so he's out there playing.
00:14:11You're like, damn,
00:14:14you're you're putting and you're matching him up with Jalen Brown.
00:14:17That
00:14:19Indiana is in trouble, and they came into this series,
00:14:22you know, looking, you know, in a whole world of trouble from the beginning.
00:14:25And and the thing that the Celtics did in this game that we did not see
00:14:29as much of in the first game was they played hard.
00:14:32They had that stretch where Indiana could not score.
00:14:35And when they're locking up defensively the way they were able to
00:14:39for extended stretches against a team that's as offensively powerful as Indiana.
00:14:45Indiana is in a world of trouble because you can't match that
00:14:47defensively because they're not built to defend.
00:14:50So Indiana, they're in a world of trouble.
00:14:52And if you're the Celtics, you know, the good thing about this
00:14:56is not only are you moving through this series in, you know,
00:14:59as quick a time as possible, but it gives you a longer bandwidth,
00:15:04if you will, before the NBA Finals, because that Dallas,
00:15:08you know, Minnesota series, at least six or seven games, that thing is going to go.
00:15:13And that gives you more time to have no games without Porzingis
00:15:17for him to get healthy.
00:15:17And so that's if you're the Celtics, this is working out
00:15:22about as good as you would want it to, with the lone exception
00:15:26being the play of Tatum.
00:15:28This was this was worse than game one.
00:15:31Worse than game one, because when he wasn't making shots,
00:15:34not only was he not making shots, he was getting cooked defensively.
00:15:38There was a graphic at one point where he was, I think,
00:15:41was one for seven, one for eight shooting.
00:15:43And guys that he was defending were five for seven
00:15:45when he was guarding them as a primary defender.
00:15:48If you're not making shots, that's one thing.
00:15:50All great players have stretches like that.
00:15:53But when you're getting cooked defensively by a team like this,
00:15:56where the matchups that he had were matchups that defensively speaking
00:16:00were break even or in his favor.
00:16:03This was a bad this was a bad game, even if the numbers looked otherwise.
00:16:07Hey, how many times are you going to put this comment in the tweet
00:16:10before I ban you?
00:16:11Like, Jesus, stop spamming the chat.
00:16:13I said it was seven
00:16:16before Halliburton's out, their best players out.
00:16:19They pissed away game one.
00:16:21They did this.
00:16:23The complexion of the series has changed dramatically, dramatically.
00:16:27They had hopes and through game one away, completely pissed it away.
00:16:31And now their best player got hurt.
00:16:33They're in trouble.
00:16:34They're reeling now. They're reeling.
00:16:36They really away.
00:16:38Whatever number of people have, we still have one.
00:16:40I think that really, you know, we disagreed a little bit. Right.
00:16:44And that I wasn't 100 percent, but it did feel like that kind of game
00:16:48where it's like, well, we'll never we'll never like that was it, man.
00:16:52We knew it. That was our shot.
00:16:54And we just gave it to him.
00:16:55And when you know, you've got to like, you've got to do a lot of things
00:16:59right and have things go your way when you're the Pacers and they're the Celtics.
00:17:03And you know that there's a big talent disparity there.
00:17:06And you just gave away game one.
00:17:09I don't know if it had an effect in terms of how they came out and played,
00:17:13but you kind of know, like, oh, shit, man, that we we got problems.
00:17:17And again, like I said, you compound that with the Halliburton.
00:17:20I'm not really sure.
00:17:21I'm not really sure what they can do here.
00:17:24I look, we've seen the Celtics play down to their competition.
00:17:27Sure. Absolutely. You know?
00:17:29Yeah, we have.
00:17:30But I thought this was a game where Indiana, I thought
00:17:32they had a great game plan to start the game.
00:17:35They were right there with the Celtics throughout the first lead
00:17:38for this chunk of the quarter.
00:17:40But one of the subtle things that we haven't talked about yet was
00:17:46Joe Mazzola made game two adjustments from the outset.
00:17:50I, you know, small ball.
00:17:52Yeah, it went small ball.
00:17:53And maybe that had a little bit to do with Luke in the hand or the wrist injury,
00:17:57maybe, but even before that particular adjustment,
00:18:00the way that they utilize Al Horford and took Al
00:18:06off of Miles Turner and had him on on Pascal,
00:18:10I thought was was brilliant because look at this game.
00:18:13People are going to, you know, forget that in game one,
00:18:16Miles Turner lit him up for 18 in the first half.
00:18:19Miles Turner was a non factor this entire game.
00:18:24And a lot of that has to do with the fact that Mazzola made that that subtle,
00:18:27but very important adjustment on how you defended him or specifically
00:18:30who you defended.
00:18:32They did.
00:18:33And I think like a lot of what Turner got in that first game,
00:18:36they were they would live with also, you know.
00:18:39So I think that's how it kind of went there.
00:18:41But Turner was really quiet.
00:18:43And you did see Tatum starting out on him and they changed things up a little.
00:18:47But he was really ineffective all night.
00:18:49And then when I think what kind of broke the Pacers a little bit
00:18:52is at the end of that third quarter, when the Celtics went really small
00:18:55and the Pacers went really big,
00:18:57they had Turner, Toppin and Siakam all out there in the front court.
00:19:01And the Celtics were small
00:19:02and the Celtics started to distance themselves there.
00:19:04And that was kind of that.
00:19:06So, you know, Joe made an adjustment in that regard as well,
00:19:09where he did go small ball, but he's kind of forced into it because Cornette
00:19:14Cornette went down.
00:19:15I don't know what's going to go on here with Luke
00:19:18and whether that returns.
00:19:19But like and I don't want to like be happy about an injury.
00:19:24But I am glad that they did go to that lineup for a little bit there
00:19:28with the small ball, because you can against the Pacers.
00:19:31You can even do it with Turner out there.
00:19:33You really can.
00:19:35Yeah, what I'm I'm just still surprised at is that you literally have only one guy
00:19:39who knows that locker room intimately.
00:19:41And that's O'Shea Brissett.
00:19:43And that's the one guy that now your hand is almost forced to play him.
00:19:46And I don't think it was a coincidence that O'Shea in this game
00:19:49had the best plus minus on the Celtics roster was plus 18
00:19:53in the 12 minutes that he was on the floor.
00:19:55And again, a lot of that, you know, he didn't score a ton of points,
00:19:58but he knew where to be, when to be there.
00:20:01Did a lot of really good things out there.
00:20:04And that was, you know, one of the keys of this game for them
00:20:07is just getting guys in the right place at the right time, making the right plays.
00:20:11With the exception of Tatum, who first half non-factor
00:20:15second half, man, it's pretty good.
00:20:18Pretty good.
00:20:21Is the chat ready for the Tatum conversation yet
00:20:24or are we not going to have the Tatum conversation?
00:20:26Oh, we'll have to.
00:20:29Well, do we do we want to give some more love out to some other folks besides Jalen?
00:20:33And then I mean, look, I look, two things happen.
00:20:36I think Al, Al got his rest game after his heavy minutes game.
00:20:40That actually was a good thing.
00:20:42What's what's what's what's funny with Luke going out?
00:20:44You figure Al would get smoked in terms of the amount of minutes he would play.
00:20:47And he didn't.
00:20:48He only played 25 and he had a quiet ish sort of game.
00:20:52Everyone was great.
00:20:53Another phenomenal holiday game.
00:20:56It's super efficient.
00:20:58But again, he drops 10 dimes.
00:21:00He was he was terrific.
00:21:01It's nice to see White getting it going offensively in confidence.
00:21:05He was driving the bucket.
00:21:07He was driving to the basket.
00:21:08He hit his little floaters.
00:21:10He was he was quick trigger on the three when he had the shot.
00:21:13He looked like.
00:21:16The best version of Derek White without needing to Jack
00:21:18a zillion shots there, they kind of needed all of it
00:21:21because Tatum was so freaking bad for two and a half quarters.
00:21:24Yeah, they really did.
00:21:26I mean, you were he was again,
00:21:30he was legit borderline a decoy at the beginning of that third quarter.
00:21:35And then he finally got it going a teeny bit there.
00:21:38And you can see the mental aspect of Tatum is so interesting
00:21:41as you see the defense and the offense kind of going hand in hand there.
00:21:45I mean, he was getting cooked defensively.
00:21:47Yeah. Cooked by Neb Hart.
00:21:49They were like hunting him for a period.
00:21:51His the stats they put up when he was the when he was the defender,
00:21:55the one on one defender, I still didn't die.
00:21:59I don't think it finished very well.
00:22:00It was a total opposite of last game where every single second
00:22:03he was off the court, they were horrible.
00:22:05The defensive rating with Tatum off the court was like 140.
00:22:09So like he showed out last game.
00:22:12He was horrible on defense tonight and he was sulking.
00:22:15And there was they were getting blown.
00:22:17He was he was getting blown by.
00:22:19There's a really weird game from him.
00:22:20And I think maybe he's putting too much pressure on himself.
00:22:24I'm not entirely sure what it is.
00:22:26We'll talk a little bit more about him.
00:22:27Tatum's coming to the podium.
00:22:29We also have, you know, I think holiday is going to be at the podium.
00:22:34And of course, Mr.
00:22:3540, all NBA 16th best player in the NBA, number 16, number 16.
00:22:41It's like it's like right.
00:22:42It's like winning the NIT.
00:22:44He just missed it.
00:22:46And again, legitimate beef, legitimate beef for him not getting in there.
00:22:50And I think I think I whether it motivated him or not, I bet it did.
00:22:55I'm curious if he gets asked about it, whether he talks about it there.
00:22:58But we'll get that as well.
00:22:59Real quick.
00:22:59We want to tell you all about prize picks, our terrific sponsor
00:23:03here over at the Garden Report.

00:23:50celebrities if you want as well.
00:23:53There's injury insurance.
00:23:54There's a lot of cool things that you can you know, take part in there.
00:23:58And again, you are protected.
00:24:00If somebody does get hurt in the first half, I don't know if Halliburton
00:24:04would have helped you tonight.
00:24:05But all you have to do is download that app, use the code CLNS for
00:24:09a first deposit match up to a hundred.
00:24:10Once again, download the app.
00:24:13CLNS is the code first deposit match up to 100.
00:24:18Um, yeah.
00:24:19And so on we go, uh, with this.
00:24:21I, and I do, I think we have to get back to Tatum at the end of the
00:24:24date, the stat lines going to look okay.
00:24:26Nine of 20, that's okay.
00:24:29The threes, they're not the threes.
00:24:31They're not falling.
00:24:32I mean, not only are they not falling, they're not even close.
00:24:35Uh, you know, some of these are empty calorie stats that stint at the
00:24:39end of the third quarter was valuable.
00:24:41That's when he kind of energized for the first time all
00:24:43night and they needed it.
00:24:45He was a little bit more decisive there.
00:24:47He got to his spots a little bit quicker.
00:24:49Um, everything up until then was dog shit in every capacity, almost inexcusable.
00:24:54And again, he's going to slide.
00:24:57The national guys are going to go at him and everybody's going to get all
00:24:59hurt over it and be like, what do you want from the guy, a bad game?
00:25:0223 points.
00:25:03That's fine.
00:25:04The reality is you don't need them in this series right now at this point,
00:25:10what's going on with this team.
00:25:11You don't need them when Brown's going off for four, you don't need them when
00:25:13you have a big talent disparity over this team and when the other teams
00:25:16without its best player now, yeah, you can survive bad JT games.
00:25:20The question is how much longer can you survive bad JT games?
00:25:23If you go back and you look at it, not just from box score perspectives,
00:25:26because again, sometimes the counting stats aren't there, but his impact was
00:25:30more profound than what you'll look when you just kind of look at the shooting
00:25:35splits, which is a really easy and lazy way to, you know, try to determine if
00:25:39he had a good game or not, but he's been good in half the games.
00:25:45He's been your best player in maybe one, the whole playoffs, maybe that's not good
00:25:53enough.
00:25:53It's not, it's not good enough.
00:25:54You're your first team, all NBA, you're, you're, it's, it's more as needed.
00:25:59Yeah.
00:25:59More and a lot more is needed and you know, more is needed.
00:26:03Here's the thing that as I'm watching him struggle game after game after game,
00:26:08and yet still want it with really good numbers, you get a better understanding
00:26:13of why Brad Stevens and that front office were so bullish to upload up to the
00:26:17upgrade this roster and get guys who are impact players at various positions,
00:26:24because I think they understand that Tatum, whether you want to accept it or
00:26:29not, he's not quite ready to be that guy to lead you to a championship on his
00:26:38back.
00:26:38He can be your best player and win a championship, but is he the best player
00:26:42to put a team on his back throughout the course of a postseason run?
00:26:46And the answer to that is no, you're going to end up with, they built this
00:26:49roster in a way so that you've got Jalen, you've got drew, you've got Derek
00:26:53white, you're going to get for seeing his back.
00:26:55You start going down.
00:26:56You've got basically at least four and Al Horford, you've got five other guys
00:27:00who on any given night can carry you to victory.
00:27:03And there are very few teams that can say, we've got, we've got six guys, we've
00:27:07got five guys, not including our best player who can carry us on any given
00:27:12night in a significant way to win in a postseason.
00:27:15And so I think the way they built this roster, the more that you think about
00:27:19it, it's built for Tatum to have these kinds of games and still find ways to
00:27:22win.
00:27:23But to your point, John, at some point, you're going to need him to be your best
00:27:27player.
00:27:27You're going to need him to be not just your top score, but your best impact
00:27:31player.
00:27:31And so far, Jalen Brown has been their best player, best impact player is doing
00:27:38it at both ends of the floor.
00:27:39When, when, when Pascal kind of got it going a little bit, it was Jalen who
00:27:44wanted that smoke.
00:27:45Uh, and, and, and so that's, to me, that's the level of where Tatum's at now.
00:27:51And I don't know if he's ever going to get to that next level, which is to be,
00:27:54you know, put ride my bad guys as such the way Cedric Maxwell put the team when
00:28:00it's back and carried him.
00:28:01I don't know if he's ever going to be that player, but they can still win a
00:28:04championship with him as the best player because they built this roster to
00:28:07withstand games like this, where he's not your best or second, even third best
00:28:12player.
00:28:15It's frustrating as hell because you see the potential, you see the ability to be
00:28:20the most dominant force in the game and to not see it translate, uh, is, is
00:28:26disappointing.
00:28:27I mean, you know, we, we talk often about just the relationship you have with
00:28:30Kobe and that mamba mentality, but if we're keeping it a hundred, Jalen has
00:28:34more mamba mentality in the Tatum mentality.
00:28:39And I know it makes you cringe, but let, but give credit where credit is due.
00:28:45Jalen plays in the postseason, the way you want your best player from an attitude
00:28:50standpoint, the play to just get on my back.
00:28:52I'm going to score.
00:28:53I'm going to be an elite defender.
00:28:54I'm going to do whatever it is.
00:28:56Jalen said in his, in his, uh, walk-off interview with Lisa Salters, whatever it
00:29:00takes to get a W that's, and that's how he plays.
00:29:03That's exactly how he plays.
00:29:05Yeah.
00:29:05Look, you're a hundred percent, right?
00:29:08It's the term mamba mentality that kills me.
00:29:10Cause you're not supposed to give yourself nicknames.
00:29:14People give you nicknames.
00:29:15So the whole mamba thing has always bugged me, but that's fine.
00:29:18But in terms of what Kobe did and that killer instinct and whatever you want to
00:29:21call mamba mentality or what it's come to when people come to understand it.
00:29:25Yes.
00:29:25Jalen has it times 10 over Tatum.
00:29:28And that's the thing is like, this is going to be like, Oh,
00:29:32it's easy to pile on him now.
00:29:33But like, I think this is how you're going to view Tatum like for the, for his
00:29:39career is until he changes the narrative.
00:29:41He can change the narrative, but he hasn't shown the ability to do that.
00:29:45And, and I think part of the reason why is I think he's trying to be something
00:29:49maybe that isn't best suited to his overall skillset, which is like Kobe.
00:29:55And like, you're not Kobe.
00:29:57You're not even mellow in that regard.
00:29:59Like he's not the guy who just cooks.
00:30:01He's not, he's not an elite shot creator, but he's a guy who can score a lot of
00:30:06different ways because he he's big, he can get downhill, you know, but right
00:30:11now his jump shot is garbage.
00:30:13He's not getting by people on the dribble.
00:30:15When he gets to the basket, oftentimes it's getting the ball when the coverage
00:30:20hasn't come over and recognizing it and getting into the lane quickly.
00:30:24And when he does, he's big and long and fast and explosive and it's
00:30:28tough to get him going there.
00:30:29But right now, I mean, he had back-to-back possessions where he couldn't get, he
00:30:33couldn't score over McConnell and, and, and Shepard that was after he started
00:30:39getting it going in the third quarter, he's struggling to get by people.
00:30:43He's struggling to shoot over the top of people.
00:30:45Maybe it's just a slump, but the reality is, is like, I, he's not at the level of
00:30:50the best shot creators in the NBA, which is what most of the
00:30:55national pundits judge him by.
00:30:58So based off of that, some of the other things that he's legitimately elite at,
00:31:02he gets, doesn't get credit for like his defense when he plays is legitimately
00:31:08elite, he is, he has one of their, he's a better defender than Brown on, on, you
00:31:13know, that's, that's how I view it.
00:31:15I mean, he can really lock down guys when he wants to.
00:31:19He's got to be more, he's got to recognize that, like, he's got to lean into the
00:31:23playmaking a little bit more and just quick decision-making and not fall into
00:31:27these habits of like, let me just break the guy down.
00:31:30And, you know, even I said it last game after his post game and it bugged me a
00:31:33little like, um, that he was like, you know, I just got to, I just eventually,
00:31:39you know, I just got to keep taking them and eventually they'll fall.
00:31:42I don't think that needs to be his attitude.
00:31:43I think his attitude needs to be like, whatever's happening in the game, that's
00:31:47what's happening in the game.
00:31:48And that's that.
00:31:49It's not a concern that you have to find your offense, not for this team to win.
00:31:54Uh, holiday, uh, Drew, hold on.
00:31:58I love it.
00:31:59Um, uh, I'll ride for him and, uh, whatever I can do to obviously, uh, get
00:32:03that win is, is needed, but the way JB's been playing, man, is, is outstanding.
00:32:10True.
00:32:10Defensively, things seem to really shift when you went Tatum at the five O'Shea at
00:32:16the four, what did you see from that lineup?
00:32:18Yes.
00:32:19A bit of a smaller lineup, but very athletic.
00:32:22Um, I think that we're just kind of scrambling for each other and playing off
00:32:25each other.
00:32:26Yes.
00:32:27We know that they like to get into the pain and kind of make a type of plays in
00:32:30there.
00:32:30But, um, I think because we're long and athletic, we can take some of those
00:32:35things away and, and really just try to speed them up as much as possible.
00:32:39The word chaos, chaotic has been used in the past couple of days to describe them.
00:32:44Is there an element of kind of returning that chaos with that smaller lineup?
00:32:49Does that kind of negate it somehow?
00:32:51Uh, sure.
00:32:52I mean, I guess chaos with chaos, right?
00:32:54Um, I think that we, just like them, I think they do a great job of having a,
00:32:58it seems like control chaos.
00:33:00Um, the way that they play, they, they move the ball, uh, they move bodies and,
00:33:05uh, they play fast, but we can also do that.
00:33:08Um, we can go small and go big.
00:33:10We can play fast.
00:33:11We can slow down and execute.
00:33:13But, uh, I think at no show out there, it was just a different element where, I
00:33:18mean, all five guys, just if we were switching or if we're staying with our
00:33:21man,
00:33:25true.
00:33:26You and Derek combined for six assists and 14 and 22 shooting.
00:33:30Joe was talking about how you guys have been so open-minded to doing anything
00:33:32offensively that the team needs on this team as a backcourt with Derek and sort
00:33:37of like taking the pressure off of Jalen Jason, the scoring department, if you
00:33:40need to screening, uh, playmaking, like, how do you feel like you've embraced
00:33:44that?
00:33:44Do anything role in offense?
00:33:45Yeah.
00:33:45Um, utility guys, guys that, uh, will do anything to win and feel like that's
00:33:50kind of what is important.
00:33:52Um, it's not necessarily, um, getting your stats or seeing what it looks like,
00:33:57but doing whatever it takes to win.
00:33:58And Derek's done a great job this whole season.
00:34:01Um, um, of just, uh, setting up the offense, um, getting us to the things we
00:34:06need.
00:34:06I mean, he talks to me so much telling me where to go, what to do.
00:34:10So, um, as a point guard, Derek's been, Derek's been great and leading our
00:34:14team.
00:34:16Drew O'Shea was a plus 18 tonight, just over 12 minutes.
00:34:19What made his time so impactful and how rewarding is it to see players like him?
00:34:25They really haven't seen many minutes as postseason before.
00:34:28No, I'm happy to see that.
00:34:29Um, and he stays ready.
00:34:30Uh, he hasn't seen many minutes as postseason, um, probably didn't play as
00:34:35much as he wanted to during the regular season, but I just think, uh, that's a
00:34:39part of sacrifice and, and him staying ready, um, him staying ready.
00:34:43I know it's tough because, uh, you're not really getting like game reps like
00:34:46that, but the way he came out and played, and I think like the first two minutes
00:34:50had two rebounds and great stops, just really excited and glad for, uh, to see
00:34:55him do that.
00:34:56Cause I mean, for one is a confidence booster and two it's against his own team,
00:35:00his old team.
00:35:01So Drew, are you, were you surprised at all that they went to the, um, like
00:35:08third string with five minutes left and it's still like 14, 15 point game.
00:35:12And in that situation, what's kind of the key to ensuring there's no letup
00:35:16and the game isn't over on your end?
00:35:17Yeah.
00:35:18Uh, just to continue to lock in.
00:35:20Um, we know that these guys that are coming off the bench, if it's second
00:35:24or third string, um, this is their chance to make anything happen.
00:35:27Uh, and we know just the first unit of the first and second unit of Indy,
00:35:32they're going to play hard, but these guys are going to play, play even harder.
00:35:34So, um, we know on the big stage, um, anything can happen and guys can make
00:35:39plays and really just wanted to set the tone, especially toward the end of the
00:35:43game and, and, uh, or control the game toward the end of the game.
00:35:49All right.
00:35:51All right, true holiday.
00:35:52Um, so, uh, just again, we're talking about early questions in, um, to holiday
00:35:59there about the, um, about the small ball lineup and, you know, he, he
00:36:04didn't answer like in like a shit.
00:36:07Yeah.
00:36:07We've been waiting for that.
00:36:08But, you know, it does acknowledge it's more, um, you know, it's more athletic
00:36:13and they can do different things there.
00:36:17If it makes sense to like you, me and like 2000 idiots in the chat
00:36:21right now, like to do this, like if we don't know, like, what do we know?
00:36:28Like, what, what, why was Joe so difficult?
00:36:32Because I think because he said it last game is like, you know, any chance
00:36:36you might try different things and like kind of, this is adjusting, right?
00:36:39Like in the playoffs, you adjust, this happens all the time.
00:36:43Players, you coaches bring up other guys and be like, I'm
00:36:46wondering if this guy can spark us.
00:36:47I wonder if that can do it.
00:36:48And it's easier to do it when you're the obvious underdog, right.
00:36:53As opposed to when, like, if you're, you know, if you're the Celtics, you're
00:36:58just supposed to be able to roll out your guys and just win.
00:37:01Um, so it is riskier to do it when you are the team that has less of a need to,
00:37:08but like, aren't you supposed to, isn't that kind of part of the gig?
00:37:12It's a strange thing to just kind of dismiss so out of hand.
00:37:15And I know we know Joe's philosophy.
00:37:17Why doesn't he like to play these guys?
00:37:19He wants shooting and he, you know, Brissett can't shoot.
00:37:22Tillman can't shoot.
00:37:23He's a little bit worried about bringing those guys to the floor.
00:37:25And Cornette can't shoot either, you know?
00:37:27So like, so I, I'm not really sure what, what the fear is here.
00:37:34It's just a smaller athletic lineup.
00:37:36You should be able to do that.
00:37:38And you could create a lot of space.
00:37:39You create a lot of problems.
00:37:41You can put Hauser in those lineups and, and, and, and, and give him more
00:37:45opportunities to have open looks.
00:37:46So you do a lot of different things there when you don't have somebody
00:37:49who's going to bury you down low.
00:37:51Yeah, exactly.
00:37:52You can even play this lineup against Turner.
00:37:54I'm surprised he didn't try it a little bit more.
00:37:57I'm not sure.
00:37:59Yeah.
00:37:59I mean, I think for Joe, so much of this comes down to what can I
00:38:05do that's not going to crush us?
00:38:07What can I do that keeps me in my comfort zone?
00:38:10And his comfort zone is to have shooters out there.
00:38:12There's, there's no doubt about that.
00:38:13But the thing about the playoffs is sometimes, you know, you've got to become
00:38:16comfortable with being uncomfortable.
00:38:18And I don't think Joe has ever gotten to that point when it comes to lineup
00:38:22rotations and things like that.
00:38:24To me, it's, it felt like it should have been a no brainer to go small against
00:38:29this Indiana team, knowing that even when you go small, you're still physically
00:38:35superior to them and a lot of positions.
00:38:37So small ball isn't really traditional small ball where you're trying, where
00:38:41you're, you're, you know, you're, you're undersized small ball for them is,
00:38:45is simply, you're just more athletic.
00:38:47You've got more defensive versatility.
00:38:49You have what that, that term that drew users.
00:38:51I love the controlled chaos.
00:38:53Uh, that's what you get with the small ball.
00:38:55Cause percent, as you, as you know, we all know he's not going to knock down
00:38:58three, four threes, but he's can keep two or three possessions alive.
00:39:02That'll get you a couple of more shots at knocking down a three.
00:39:06So I, I, my gut tells me that they're going to go back and look at the film
00:39:11and realize, wow, the small ball line was something that kind of worked.
00:39:14We might want to unleash this at some point in game three.
00:39:18Uh, even if, even if we're in control of the game, uh, we may unleash it as just
00:39:23kind of a, just kind of a change of pace type thing to see if we can
00:39:27expand the lead that we have.
00:39:29So this is, um, it's going to be interesting to see how they approach
00:39:34game three, cause I thought Joe did a really good job of making
00:39:37adjustments from game one to two.
00:39:38It'll be interesting to see what does he do from game two to three?
00:39:43Um, yes, it, it always is interesting.
00:39:46Joe's always better after the game than in the game.
00:39:49Um, true.
00:39:52Yeah.
00:39:52Uh, I got a little something from Carla, Carla, Rick Carla, by the
00:39:56way, I'm told from the chat here.
00:39:59Who would never mislead me?
00:40:01Um, that, uh, he said that, that Stiakam and, uh, Nismith were tired.
00:40:08Um, and that's one of the reasons that they sat.
00:40:10It is very strange that Carlisle seemingly pulled the plug on this game
00:40:13while it was still competitive.
00:40:14And that's not his style.
00:40:16We've seen the Celtics blow much bigger leads, um, than that.
00:40:22If, if Rick said that those guys are tired, I believe it because the way
00:40:25that he utilized his guys, you know, in that four Rick, that's not Rick
00:40:30style to pull the plug that quick.
00:40:31So there's no question in my mind.
00:40:34If he said that those guys are tired, then there's some legitimate
00:40:36fatigue that they're dealing with.
00:40:38Uh, I don't know, but here he is talking about like going back to, um,
00:40:43going back to, uh, uh, Indiana and, you know, still feeling
00:40:48that they're in this series.
00:40:49Our series, we were down O2 and came home and we're able to, um, win game
00:40:55three and then, you know, move along and do what we wanted to do.
00:41:01Um, you know, for us right now, we've, we've got to concentrate on getting
00:41:05back as quickly as we can tonight.
00:41:08Um, and preparing ourselves for our best possible effort on Saturday night.
00:41:13And, and I know that, I know that our building will be as loud
00:41:18and live as it's ever been.
00:41:21You know, it's race weekend and, and everything else going on.
00:41:25And so we've got to, um, we got to take advantage of that.
00:41:28It doesn't guarantee anything, but it will be a better environment for
00:41:33us than, than playing here for sure.
00:41:36Here, here's the thing.
00:41:38This is the one thing that I, I mean, Rick going back.
00:41:42Yeah, we're going to be back home.
00:41:43We were down O2 and we came back and we beat the Knicks, but here's the
00:41:46difference if let's say Jalen Brown wasn't playing and let's say Derek
00:41:50White wasn't playing, uh, and let's say Porzingis was still out then.
00:41:55Yeah, I would feel a lot more confident going back home, but here's a problem.
00:42:00All of those, or two of those guys are definitely going to play.
00:42:02And the third guy may very well play.
00:42:05They played an undermanned injury riddled Knicks team that was basically
00:42:09on life support with Jalen Brunson being the one player of impact that they had.
00:42:15The Celtics, the Celtics have four guys who can drop 30 on you.
00:42:19And they, and here's the thing.
00:42:21And, and we, we, we talked about Jalen earlier, but the one that the last
00:42:23thing I'll say about Jalen is this.
00:42:25There is no one on that Indiana team that can guard him, not a soul.
00:42:29He has torch grilled, laid everyone on that squad.
00:42:33The reason we played that bite is does this look like a
00:42:39man who believes his team?
00:42:41No, he, that is about the most defeated coach speak.
00:42:47I'll ever hear after a game.
00:42:49He's talking about the damn race being in town as being part.
00:42:52That's that guy.
00:42:55And credit to Jackson, our producer, Jackson Tolliver, who pulled
00:43:00out that particular bite.
00:43:02That is the most defeated, saddest thing.
00:43:07Like, well, we won't be here, so that's good.
00:43:12And, uh, there's the race and that's always fun.
00:43:18And like, you know, oh my goodness gracious.
00:43:21And it's, yeah.
00:43:22And, and, you know, no, having known Rick from, from more than 20 years and having
00:43:26covered Rick when he was in Detroit.
00:43:28And, uh, that's that Rick that we just saw is, is a man that
00:43:35kind of knows the end is near.
00:43:37Uh, and he was a sad, he was a sad girl.
00:43:45And he knows his guys are going to fight.
00:43:46He knows they're going to fight and they're going to, they're not just
00:43:49going to bow, but he's, you know, he's looking at, you know, the weapons
00:43:53that he's got at his disposal.
00:43:54And he's looking across the seat.
00:43:55My gosh, look at all that they've got.
00:43:59It's a wrap.
00:44:00It's just a matter of when, not if, if it's going to be over.
00:44:03So, yeah, no doubt about it.
00:44:04We'll bring in Joe Sway.
00:44:05Give us a thumbs up, Joe Sway, when you're ready to go.
00:44:08Um, and, uh, we will hear more, uh, press conferences as well.
00:44:12And yes, I'm sorry.
00:44:13We might've missed a super chatter too.
00:44:14And I do, I apologize if that were the case.
00:44:17Uh, it was not my design, but, um, the chat comes fast and furious.
00:44:22And sometimes when we're doing other things, we'll get buried in there.
00:44:25So if I missed one of them, if I missed one of them, I apologize real
00:44:29quick before we bring Joe Sway on.
00:44:30We want to let you all know again, uh, one of our terrific sponsors
00:44:34here at the garden report, and that is game time.
00:44:37Okay.

00:44:44Uh, and it makes getting playoff tickets easier and fat, even
00:44:48now, faster and faster.
00:44:49If you're in Indiana, those prices might be going down.
00:44:52Um, but like with the game time app, the prices go down.
00:44:56The closer it gets to tip off last minute deals, all in prices,
00:44:59panoramic views from your seat.
00:45:01Um, game five, if there is a game five, yeah, get in on that action.
00:45:05Good chance to see the Celtics before they head to the finals, which seems
00:45:08like a foregone conclusion at this point.
00:45:10And again, I don't know what people want from me.
00:45:12If I say it's over and they're going to the finals, people get mad.
00:45:15If I say it's a challenging series, people get mad.
00:45:17What do you, what do you people want?
00:45:19Don't you want to go to the finals?

00:45:55Let's bring in our man.
00:45:57Josue Pavone here from the garden.
00:45:59Looking dapper.
00:46:00He's got a mic in his hand.
00:46:07This looks like the most official Josue Pavone we've ever seen on the garden report.
00:46:11I love it.
00:46:12She took a screenshot.
00:46:15I don't know.
00:46:15I think we're good.
00:46:16Thank you though.
00:46:17Well, I appreciate you guys.
00:46:19How are you guys feeling about this game?
00:46:20Hey, I'm feeling good about Mark and Melanie joining here.
00:46:23I love that.
00:46:25Yeah.
00:46:27Oh, yeah.
00:46:33What's, what's your take.
00:46:34What's your take Josue.
00:46:35Hey, there's Jimmy Toscano jumping in.
00:46:37Hi, Jimmy.
00:46:39Incredible night for Jalen Brown.
00:46:41Just taking over the way he did, you know, dominating playoff career
00:46:45high matches at 40 points out here.
00:46:47And I love what Joe Mazzullo had to say about, about his, his growth.
00:46:51You know, he's has that mindset always wants to get better.
00:46:54Never quite, quite satisfied.
00:46:55And he was, he was honest when he said, and I was hoping Joe would
00:46:58give us the real answer and he did.
00:46:59Uh, when he said that the, the all NBA snub, yeah, that's
00:47:02something that motivates Jalen.
00:47:04That's something that he's going to, you're going to see something like this
00:47:07after, you know, less than 24 hours after that news dropped.
00:47:10And I think that, uh, everyone sort of knew that going into this one, but the way
00:47:14he's, he continued to be consistent and also finding his guys, Joe Mazzullo
00:47:18bringing up the, uh, he hopes that the NBA one day does the, uh, hockey
00:47:22assist or some sort of column.
00:47:26Potential assist.
00:47:27Yeah.
00:47:27He, he's hoping that it makes the box score one day because, uh, Jalen had
00:47:32a, a stack of them in this game, even though the box score shows he had two
00:47:35assists, so yeah, I thought it was a perfect, a perfect game for him.
00:47:40Go John, go guys.
00:47:43You know, the guys with high assist numbers also have a shit
00:47:46ton of potential assists too, right?
00:47:48The more you pass, the percentages eventually even out over time.
00:47:53And so sometimes those guys you pass to for open threes hit them.
00:47:57And sometimes they don't.
00:47:59But over a long enough timeline, the guys with the higher assist
00:48:02totals are finding more guys open.
00:48:04There's no secret here.
00:48:07It's not like you realize how unlucky you'd have to be to have this ungodly
00:48:11amount of potential assists and just people just happen to miss.
00:48:14Yeah.
00:48:14But John, it falls into the philosophy, you know, it fits Joe
00:48:17Mazzullo's philosophy, move that wall.
00:48:19Because we don't want the high assist guys have them also.
00:48:23They are.
00:48:23They do.
00:48:24They do.
00:48:25They all do.
00:48:25Everybody who passes the basketball ever to a guy who shoots is doing something
00:48:30that could result in an assist.
00:48:32And sometimes they don't go in.
00:48:34We know this.
00:48:35We got to leave this alone.
00:48:37There are some nights.
00:48:38There are some nights where the luck isn't on your side.
00:48:41You made 12 good passes to 12 open shooters and none of them hit it.
00:48:44Absolutely.
00:48:45But over a long enough timeline, it's all, it all evens out.
00:48:49It all evens out.
00:48:50Yeah.
00:48:51But you got to translate that line to Joe Mazzullo's language, which is what it
00:48:55means is, yeah, it was struggling for that.
00:48:58It's secondary.
00:48:59Well, no, I think it's, I think it's, I think it's more so of, uh, Tatum was out
00:49:03there struggling and Jayla wasn't saying to him, saying to everyone, Hey, just
00:49:06give me the ball and everyone clear the way, you know, like, like, yeah, obviously
00:49:09he wasn't in a past first type of mood.
00:49:11He was in attack mode.
00:49:12But I think what he's trying to say is, uh, Jalen picks his spots.
00:49:15He, obviously you look at his efficiency, which has always been sharp, but this
00:49:19playoff run has been, it's, it's the best we've ever seen from Jalen.
00:49:23So I just think that's his way of saying like, he could have easily been like,
00:49:25okay, time to go out and get mines.
00:49:27What Tatum got four half time.
00:49:28This is, this is my show.
00:49:30I feel a couple of years ago, maybe he does that, but he's come a long way.
00:49:33Obviously we know how he has, uh, as a player overall, but I think in the heat
00:49:37of the moment, it's easy to get caught into it.
00:49:39Right.
00:49:39Especially when you're, when you're on point where you're scoring at a high rate
00:49:44and the Indiana Pacers are just sort of like, you're not getting that sort of
00:49:47resistance.
00:49:47That's going to slow you down.
00:49:48I mean, he could have easily got 50 out here if he really wanted to.
00:49:51I know it's a Jason Tatum line, but I just think that it really rings true.
00:49:55When you, when you think about the kind of game Jalen put together, especially
00:49:58when Tatum, they didn't really have it.
00:50:00And so he kind of found his offense in that second half.
00:50:03Yeah.
00:50:03What one guy out there looked like he was absolutely the guy and it was Brown.
00:50:09Every second he was out there first quarter, second, the whole time.
00:50:14Again, you got dropped from the sky and this is the first basketball game you've
00:50:18ever watched with these teams playing.
00:50:20You'd be like, that's obviously the team's best player.
00:50:23Like Brown was that guy the whole night.
00:50:26He was the guy and it wasn't even close.
00:50:28I mean, and again, in comparison to Tatum, who was just passive and inefficient for
00:50:32the first two and a half quarters, Brown did everything.
00:50:35I mean, just the way he played, how aggressive he was, the reads that he
00:50:39made didn't force anything again.
00:50:41There's all, there's nothing.
00:50:44Look, you want a nitpick.
00:50:45Everybody laid down a little bit at the end of that second quarter and
00:50:48kind of fell asleep on defense.
00:50:50You know, and Brown had a couple of blow buys.
00:50:52Tatum had one there.
00:50:53Other than that, Brown, Brown was, I mean, it was, it was pretty close to a
00:50:58perfect game.
00:50:58He was, he was, he was terrific.
00:51:01He has been your most valuable player.
00:51:02You did give him his flowers.
00:51:03All right.
00:51:04I want to make sure.
00:51:04No, all game long.
00:51:05Are you kidding?
00:51:06He was the number one guy.
00:51:07It wasn't even close.
00:51:08It wasn't even close.
00:51:09And you know what?
00:51:10He was the best player.
00:51:11He saved their ass in game one.
00:51:13And, and, and he's pretty much single handedly won game two by, you know, being,
00:51:19you know, the man the whole time until finally everybody got it together and
00:51:25stretched it out and yeah.
00:51:26Other good performances to holiday and white for sure.
00:51:28But like, I mean, he's, he's miles in a way, your clubhouse leader for
00:51:32conference finals MVP right now.
00:51:34Uh, and it's going to be hard.
00:51:36John called, which I called the flag, wave the flag, John, go ahead.
00:51:40Wave the flag, but he's on his way.
00:51:42I mean, shit.
00:51:43The very fact that he, I tweeted this earlier, going back to game one, the
00:51:49Jalen Brown turd causing the turnover.
00:51:52And that three was like almost dismissed for how ridiculous those plays were back
00:51:58to back, uh, and how improbable they were because everybody spent the whole time
00:52:03saying that the Pacers screwed up.
00:52:05God, I can't believe the Pacers blew it.
00:52:07And I said, it was very likely.
00:52:09It was very, it was akin to, uh, the, the Patriots Seahawks Superbowl with
00:52:14the Malcolm Butler interception where all anybody at that moment spent time
00:52:18is like, why didn't they hand the ball to Lynch?
00:52:20And they were talking about that.
00:52:21And I'm sitting there watching it.
00:52:22Like guys, this was the greatest play in the history of championship sports.
00:52:27What aren't you seeing here?
00:52:28And like Brown had two of those back to back rolled into one.
00:52:32It was now there's a steal by bird.
00:52:34It was a big deal.
00:52:35And like the complexion, the complexion of the series changes a ton.
00:52:39If he doesn't make those plays and he saved JT's ass in game one,
00:52:42cause he didn't have a great game.
00:52:44He got 10 points in overtime after Nismith fouled out and his stat
00:52:48line looked beefier than Brown.
00:52:49But Brown was the, Brown was the guy in game one and he was
00:52:52undoubtedly the guy in game two.
00:52:54So he's been their best player by far, by far.
00:52:56Well, he, he saved, he saved them in that last minute because
00:52:59look at those possessions, right?
00:53:01Whether, you know, you want to critique Tatum's, uh, jumper in the paint.
00:53:06What would we call on that?
00:53:07The four foot fade away, which I felt like in that moment, why not drive to
00:53:11the rim and get something more of a secure layup and then he missed it.
00:53:14Right.
00:53:14So I think if, if Jalen doesn't make that shot, we're going to point to that,
00:53:18or we're going to point to the turnover, or we're going to point to a late game
00:53:21execution overall saying like, well, why does Tatum always have to be the guy?
00:53:24So, yeah, I mean, Jalen saved them in a big way in game one.
00:53:28Tatum obviously answered the call in that overtime, but yeah, without Jalen,
00:53:31I mean, none of that happens.
00:53:32And I feel like a lot of the time, especially from the national media
00:53:35standpoint, we spend so much time talking about, uh, what Tatum is doing, you know?
00:53:40And, and, and maybe that has a lot to say with why Jalen wasn't
00:53:44on one of these all NBA teams.
00:53:45I mean, it's kind of, it's kind of weird, isn't it?
00:53:48And when you think about his numbers and the way that something's finished the
00:53:50season and just the consistency throughout, you know, and like, listen, I
00:53:54get it, some guys in there, you know, they had a heck of a season, but in terms
00:53:57of consistency, I mean, in that third team, like there's guys who just kind
00:54:02of dropped off a bit, especially after the all-star break, you know?
00:54:05And, and yeah, I think it was a snub, but I also think that Jalen is not
00:54:10going to lose sleep over this thing, but yeah, to, to what Joe Mazzuolo said
00:54:14after this game, it certainly played a part and he responded to that snub
00:54:18in a big way tonight.
00:54:19Yeah.
00:54:20It's snub or no snub.
00:54:22I, he's the type of guy who can get motivated by this sort of stuff.
00:54:28And I hate, I hate making, I hate always doing the comparison, but I
00:54:32also love doing the comparison.
00:54:33So I'm going to do it.
00:54:34Um, I feel like Brown, yeah, Brown will motivate himself.
00:54:39Tatum would have just been sad.
00:54:41And then given a sulky postgame comment about nobody likes us.
00:54:44Like, but Brown's like, all right, mother, you know, like I'll show, okay.
00:54:48Okay.
00:54:49Okay.
00:54:52Yeah.
00:54:52Okay.
00:54:53All right.
00:54:53I got it.
00:54:53It's a nod.
00:54:54Okay.
00:54:55Okay.
00:54:56I'm going to, I'm going to put that one away and I got it.
00:55:00Everybody said at the same time, you're like on Twitter, right after he got
00:55:03snubbed, everyone's like, oh, those poor Pacers.
00:55:06And it happened, you know?
00:55:08Yeah.
00:55:09This is what JV does though.
00:55:10And this, this is, this is why him in, in, in, I think Tatum are such good
00:55:15compliments of one another because you've got Jalen who's got that, that fire,
00:55:19that edge, that nastiness and Tatum's got that ridiculous skillset.
00:55:23Um, but I, the thing that, and we talked about this a little bit earlier to me,
00:55:27that one of the most important developments in this game was Tatum's
00:55:31awareness, self-awareness that I am not him today.
00:55:36I am not the guy that's going to get it done.
00:55:38Jalen is, let me slide just a little bit to the side here and give him the space
00:55:43to just dominate because that's what he's doing.
00:55:45He is the one guy, and I said this earlier, that Indiana has no answer for.
00:55:51And I mean, like not even close.
00:55:54No one has been able to keep him from getting to the paint.
00:55:57No one has been able to close out on him when he's looking to shoot his three.
00:56:00And defensively, he's done a, I would say a better than average
00:56:03job, uh, relative to his teammates.
00:56:06So at this point, he's your best player.
00:56:09And I think Tatum's ability to recognize that in this series, Jalen is the guy
00:56:14that should be leading this team.
00:56:15Not me.
00:56:16Well, that's really important.
00:56:18Yeah.
00:56:19He's okay with that.
00:56:20Very important.
00:56:21What, what could, what do you guys think Tatum could do differently when he's,
00:56:25when he's having these types of games where, because again, the
00:56:30question is, yeah, you can have off shooting nights.
00:56:33You might not feel it, but like he felt it was, it was, he was again, who the
00:56:39hell knows we're not psychologists here, but I mean, I think a lot of people say
00:56:43like, he does look, he looks like he gets in his own head with some he's pressing.
00:56:46He's thinking about it.
00:56:47He's trying so hard to affect the game in the way that he knows how,
00:56:50and it's not really there for him.
00:56:52He doesn't want to force it, but also he's like, if I'm not assertive, I'm not
00:56:55really doing what I'm supposed to be doing and he gets stuck.
00:56:59And I do think when he shoots wide open threes, you know, when I knew
00:57:02Tatum was a little screwed, um, he had one three attempt in the first
00:57:07quarter where he caught it clean and it was an automatic catch and shoot.
00:57:12And for some reason he decided to up fake, take a dribble and kind of
00:57:17set himself and shoot it like sidestep side at the top of the key.
00:57:22And he bricked it.
00:57:23And I was like, oh, he's he's, he's feeling his way through it.
00:57:27He did not feel comfortable to just get it and shoot it in
00:57:30rhythm for whatever reason.
00:57:32And then he had another wide open one to start the third and just side rimmed it.
00:57:37Not even close top of the key.
00:57:40He stepped into it and I mean, it barely clang the right side of the rim.
00:57:44So he, when he's off like that, I think he really gets in his own head.
00:57:47Uh, what can he do different there?
00:57:50Cause you don't want him to just hide.
00:57:52There were times he looked like he was a straight decoy.
00:57:55That's what kind of bugs me a little bit.
00:57:57And this is what's somewhat concerning about Tatum is it would totally be
00:58:01fine if he had that crap shooting game or, or decided I'm not going to shoot
00:58:05because I'm not feeling it, this guy's cooking, but then you'd want to see
00:58:08the assist total, like eight, nine, 10, and him really just working towards
00:58:11getting other people involved.
00:58:13And that being his primary goal that, you know, the, what he got killed for,
00:58:17even though he ended up with 36 points in the fourth quarter, at least killed
00:58:19by the national media was a nine minute stretch in the fourth quarter.
00:58:22We had zero points in zero assists.
00:58:25That's doing nothing.
00:58:26So like, if you're not in your bag offensively, what, what can you do to
00:58:30affect the game on the offensive end?
00:58:33Because you're needed.
00:58:33You can't just not be there.
00:58:35Right.
00:58:36When he's struggling like that.
00:58:37I like to see him become more of a screener because if they're swimming
00:58:41a ball, when he's a screener, he's going to get the ball in a position
00:58:44where either he's going to have a significantly easy shot or the
00:58:48defense is going to be moving is that he can, he's going to be creating
00:58:52an opportunity for someone to have a layup or wide open through or something
00:58:55like that, they need, when he's not hitting shots, they need to utilize
00:59:00him to create shots for others.
00:59:01And that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to get assists, but what it does
00:59:04mean is he needs to be moving his ass in ways that he's not used to typically
00:59:08Tatum is moving to get to a spot where he can get the ball and go ISO or
00:59:11where he can catch and shoot.
00:59:13But rather than do that, simply move set screens to free other guys up and
00:59:17see how the defense responds.
00:59:18If they stay with him, that means someone is going to be wide open.
00:59:21And these guys have a high enough basketball IQ to recognize that.
00:59:25There are ways that he can generate offense without scoring and without
00:59:29necessarily getting assists, but he needs to have the mindset and Joe needs to
00:59:33basically make that a point that if he misses six of his first seven shots, you
00:59:37need to do something different because what you're doing is clearly not working.
00:59:40So I like when every now and then he'll have like a 90 second stretch where he's
00:59:44a screener because all of a sudden Derek white is getting wide open threes.
00:59:48Peyton Pritchard is getting wide open threes.
00:59:50You're getting freaking, you know, O'Shea percent is getting dunks off
00:59:53of Jalen Brown penetration.
00:59:55Those are the type of things that he needs to be better at winning shots.
00:59:59Well, that's because the defense is always going to follow him.
01:00:01I mean, even if he's ice cold, he's still going to attract guys, you
01:00:04know, to get the double team or help defense in certain situations.
01:00:08So I think Tatum knows that.
01:00:09Okay.
01:00:11Yeah.
01:00:11I don't have it right now, but the defense is not going to let up.
01:00:14Right.
01:00:14So I feel like a lot of the times that's when you get that type of Tatum where
01:00:17like you talked about earlier, or John did talked about how, you know, he's
01:00:20doing these outfits where he's already wide open and he's kind of just like
01:00:23trying to go into his, go into his shot as if someone's right in front of him.
01:00:26Cause he's so used to that resistance.
01:00:28I feel like that's when it's a, that's indication of the, uh, opposing
01:00:31team's defense kind of starting to get to him, but when he's able to find
01:00:35his offense anyways, throughout the course of the second half, I think
01:00:39that's the pattern we've seen throughout, you know, the season.
01:00:42Yeah.
01:00:42Sometimes it's 10, sometimes it's 12 points at halftime.
01:00:45And then all of a sudden he starts to figure it out.
01:00:47The offense starts to spread out a bit, where's the defense thin
01:00:50and then he picks his spots.
01:00:52But yes, but sometimes that matters, like, yeah, this is the, the, the, and
01:00:58this is a good point, Robin, thank you.
01:01:00Um, you know, he does seem, he seems disinterested because he's just,
01:01:04I, like we said, is he, I think he's in his own head a little bit here.
01:01:08I'm sorry.
01:01:08Like those, like, I only played well for a short stint of the game.
01:01:13Sometimes that's good enough because that's what you needed.
01:01:16Like they didn't need much of what Tatum did when he finally got it going
01:01:20versus someone else having done, it's not like he took over the game, went
01:01:24into crazy, like, all right, I'm going to put this thing away mode.
01:01:28He just was a little better.
01:01:30You really can't take 30 minutes off in a game.
01:01:33Like it's just in a conference finals game and be on almost zero at that point.
01:01:38Like, I don't care if it evens out over time.
01:01:40Like you need them consistently.
01:01:42He's on the floor all of that time when he's a negative, he was minus
01:01:46nine or something at the, at the half.
01:01:48Like he was, he was a negative.
01:01:51That's that's definitely not good enough.
01:01:52Colin.
01:01:53I know you're mad.
01:01:54I'm sorry.
01:01:54We couldn't find some of the super chats because the chat got away from it.
01:01:58Yes.
01:01:59I don't know about Porzingis.
01:02:00You got to play him sometime, right?
01:02:02At this point, you have to answer this question or ask this question, guys.
01:02:07There's definitely less of, it feels based off going up to Owen
01:02:10Halliburton, potentially missing time.
01:02:12And we'll see what happens there.
01:02:15Which is we, we did, but everyone didn't want me to because
01:02:18they're like, shut up.
01:02:19It's not over, but I don't know if it's over.
01:02:23Don't change it, John.
01:02:24Come on.
01:02:24Let's be, let's be real.
01:02:26Like it's over, but this is a reason to not rush Porzingis back.
01:02:31But to Colin's point here, you got to get them in game shape
01:02:34before game one of the finals.
01:02:35Cause the last thing you want is clunky feeling it out Porzingis in here.
01:02:39You kind of want to get the 18 minutes, 21 minutes stint where he's just
01:02:45playing six minutes at a time, three times in a game out of the way now.
01:02:50But if it ends in four, it's not going to happen.
01:02:52If it ends, you know, if it ends in five, you're not, so he'll be well-rested,
01:02:56but he's not going to be in game shape and you're going to throw him right
01:02:58back into a starting lineup in game one of the NBA finals, not having played
01:03:02a minute of basketball in a month, which is not ideal, but what I will say is
01:03:07it's better than not having Chris Tapps Porzingis.
01:03:10Yeah.
01:03:10I mean, I think you've got to find a way if, again, once he gets to medical
01:03:15clearance to get him on the floor in Indiana, this weekend, uh, game three,
01:03:18game four, it doesn't matter, but get him out there, even if it's only for
01:03:2110 minutes, uh, just to kind of get him back into the rhythm of being on a floor.
01:03:26Uh, even though obviously he's played a full season with these guys, we see,
01:03:32even now that there's miscommunications, that there are breakdowns that you
01:03:36would be surprised that guys who play together all season would have, but they
01:03:40happen and the further removed you are from being on the floor with those guys,
01:03:44the more likely those, those mistakes are going to happen.
01:03:47And you don't want to see those mistakes creep up in the NBA finals.
01:03:50So if, if they can get him out there, even if it's for 10 minutes, do
01:03:54that before you get to the finals.
01:03:56I mean, I agree with a theory, but I just, I don't know if his body is going
01:04:00to respond in that type of schedule.
01:04:03You know, like I just, again, when you don't hear this and other podcasts
01:04:08before, like when you don't hear what's up, Jimmy, give me a second when you
01:04:12don't hear, or you don't see him out there doing five on five or three on
01:04:15three, any type of like in game minutes or contact, like, I just think he's
01:04:20means he's probably still a week away.
01:04:22Um, game four, maybe, I don't know, like, obviously it would be like a minute
01:04:27restriction type of thing, but I just, I don't know, I don't think his body is
01:04:31quite there, but yeah, I mean, that would be ideal if this thing, I don't think it
01:04:35would be a sweet, but maybe a game five appearance, something like that.
01:04:39Um, it's ideal, but I don't know.
01:04:42I don't know if his body is white there, but I'm with you, Sharad.
01:04:44I mean, get him out here in the finals.
01:04:47Hypothetically, hold on.
01:04:48I gotta stop you.
01:04:49Tatum's coming to the podium and Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy Toscano has to submit.
01:04:55Jimmy, Jimmy has to submit to a, to a blood alcohol test before I let him speak.
01:05:05So while, while we administer that, we're going to hear from Tatum's that worked.
01:05:10Yeah, I think it, uh, a lot of us, um, and you know, each game presents different
01:05:15challenges or, um, you know, we, we always talk about, we just have to be open to,
01:05:21to different things and you know, whenever your number is called or whatever you're
01:05:25asked to do, um, just be ready to do it.
01:05:28I mean, we've talked about this a little bit before, obviously you're a big guy,
01:05:32but playing the five is different responsibilities, maybe a little bit of a
01:05:36different toll on your body.
01:05:37What, what is that like for you shifting into that position?
01:05:42Uh, I mean, we got defensive principles that, you know, we're just, we follow.
01:05:46Uh, and it's just about being connected, communicating and playing hard
01:05:51essentially, and then, uh, you know, going up and get, try and get a rebound.
01:05:56Jason O'Shea was a plus 18 tonight.
01:05:58What did you see from him that made him so impactful and how rewarding is it to see
01:06:01a guy that really hasn't seen many minutes as post-season take off like that?
01:06:05Oh, it was great.
01:06:06You know, just the energy that he came in with on both ends.
01:06:09Um, just find a way to impact the game.
01:06:12And like you said, we see the stay ready group guys work and show
01:06:16up for us every single day.
01:06:18Uh, so I, you know, I love when they, when they're able to get that number
01:06:22called and, uh, get an opportunity to help us win a game.
01:06:26Don't you disparage this Jason?
01:06:27Did you speak with Jalen before the game being snubbed from the all NBA teams?
01:06:32And if so, how do you think it impacted him?
01:06:35Tonight?
01:06:36Uh, no, we ain't talking about that today.
01:06:39Uh, you know, during shoot around, we was just focused on winning the game
01:06:42tonight.
01:06:43Um, you know, we all felt like internally that he should have, you
01:06:49know, made one, all NBA teams.
01:06:51Uh, so it was a shame to see that, that he didn't.
01:06:56Jason, that's our camera dude on tonight after his heroics and in game one, what
01:07:00have you seen from him throughout the course of this post-season?
01:07:03How has his game evolved?
01:07:07I think, you know, the game is just slowing down for him more and more, uh,
01:07:11finding ways to be effective, uh, still while making the right play and, uh, you
01:07:17know, just, just being himself, um, you know, when we need them to Jason, how
01:07:23pleased are you to get out of here up two games to none heading to Indy for game?
01:07:27He's, he's, he's, he's, I mean, winning is hard.
01:07:32Winning the playoffs is as tough as it never goes.
01:07:36I guess how each game is, is, is different in his own right.
01:07:43Uh, it did feel good to finally win a game too, especially at home.
01:07:47So, uh, but we understand that New York was up to, uh, far from relaxed, you know,
01:07:57you, you take the win whenever you get it.
01:08:01They've done offense with a lot of chaos.
01:08:03That's a word that's been used a lot.
01:08:04How did you feel tonight?
01:08:06You guys have kind of been able to slow down and see through the chaos.
01:08:09I mean, it's tough.
01:08:10They, they put a lot of pressure on you.
01:08:11Even the guys that come off the bench, they play with a lot of freedom, a lot of
01:08:16pace, um, they do a good job of spacing the floor.
01:08:21Uh, so you just got to connect to them, connect to bodies.
01:08:24You can't let them run around without getting touched essentially.
01:08:27Uh, cause then it makes it extremely tough to do throughout the season.
01:08:31You jump in and out of 14 and 15 coverage all the time, changing
01:08:34coverages so much throughout the season.
01:08:36Does it make it easier to adapt to how much you have to change with this team?
01:08:41Uh, I mean, short answer would be, yeah, we just practice it so much throughout
01:08:45the season that, uh, and that's why we do it throughout the regular season.
01:08:51So, you know, when it comes to playoff time, it's not a lot of confusion.
01:08:55Jason, how important is Jalen's voice?
01:08:57Obviously his play has been big, but his voice, you know, becoming more vocal.
01:09:00I know, you know, in one of the games you struggled early in the playoffs.
01:09:03He was like, Jason, you guys see him find his rhythm even more.
01:09:06Is he kind of been in your ear for a lot of this playoff run,
01:09:09motivating you and pushing you?
01:09:10Like what's, what's his voice been like for you and the team?
01:09:13Yeah, I think, uh, it's important for every guy.
01:09:16Um, in our locker room to speak up, right?
01:09:19We all respect each other and that comes from trust.
01:09:22We, we see the work that everybody puts in every single day and the growth from,
01:09:27you know, whenever your first year here was until now, um, the growth and
01:09:32development of every single guy.
01:09:34And we have that environment where, um, you know, everybody has a voice from
01:09:39the, the top guy to, you know, the last man on the bench, right?
01:09:43We all in this together.
01:09:44Um, you need to encourage somebody do so.
01:09:46If you see something that we're doing wrong, you know, it's your job to speak up.
01:09:51How does that help you when a guy like him does try to motivate you or anybody?
01:09:54Say something nice about Jalen.
01:09:56Ask him.
01:09:56Uh, it's just like having 15 brothers or so, right?
01:09:59We all
01:10:05we're trying to accomplish something special.
01:10:06So we, uh, we are all in this together.
01:10:12Well, what about JB, but what does it mean to you to make the all NBA team
01:10:16and a third straight year?
01:10:17How gratifying is that after all the work that you put in?
01:10:20Uh, I mean, especially with something I, uh, you know, I, I strive to do that.
01:10:28I expect, uh, but it's nothing I take for granted.
01:10:31Um, it's an honor to be on first team, all NBA, uh, you know, so
01:10:36many talented guys in this league.
01:10:39Uh, just gets better and better each and every year.
01:10:43So fortunate most places to make that team again.
01:10:47Um, you know, I'm thankful, thankful for everybody that has helped me along the way.
01:10:52Uh, you know, success is not something that you can achieve by yourself.
01:10:56So, uh, you know, it's a lot of people that deserve credit and
01:11:00helping me get to where I'm at.
01:11:04Okay.
01:11:10Oh my God.
01:11:12It's got to be, he's got to be trained.
01:11:13It's too late for 10 impressive.
01:11:16We probably sleep behind the computer.
01:11:20Maybe Jalen, maybe Jalen, Jason had like some kind of agreement.
01:11:24What kind of pack?
01:11:25They're like, look, we're not going to fall into this whole like narrative.
01:11:27So we're not gonna, you know, give each other crazy compliments or anything.
01:11:30Let's just keep it about the team.
01:11:33No, no.
01:11:34This is getting to the point where it's like, he's doing this on purpose, man.
01:11:37This is uncomfortable.
01:11:39Let's hear a little from Jalen.
01:11:41Here's the, uh, by the way, they could have gone together.
01:11:4540.9.
01:11:47What were you seeing out there?
01:11:48And one of the things that, um, Joe and, and Jason were talking about is your
01:11:53ability to make the right play while you're over there dropping 40.
01:11:57So what were you seeing on the floor?
01:11:59Um, just being aggressive, um, wanting to get out and transition and run.
01:12:03Um, but I wanted to attack the smaller guards, put pressure on him, um, get to
01:12:08the basket, get to the free throw line.
01:12:10Was there any, uh, motivation for you, um, after hearing that you
01:12:15didn't make an all NBA team?
01:12:19No, I want to say that.
01:12:22There was a lot of motivation.
01:12:24I would have said that.
01:12:25You got to ask an open-ended way.
01:12:27We two games from the, from the final.
01:12:29So, you know, honestly, I don't got the time to give a fuck.
01:12:33Oh, you can say that on CLNS media.
01:12:37Game one.
01:12:39NBC is off the air, but you can say that here.
01:12:42I think we fall better in this game.
01:12:46And I think that was the majority.
01:12:48I had some guys go down, but I think we fought.
01:12:52So, um, that was the most important thing.
01:12:57Jalen, uh, just how good was it to get out of here?
01:13:02Up two games to none, defend your home court.
01:13:04Now heading out there for game three.
01:13:07Yeah, it's great.
01:13:07Especially around this time of the year, taking advantage of home court.
01:13:10Um, that's what we worked all season for.
01:13:12Um, during the regular season, being able to take care of business here at home.
01:13:17Um, now let's go.
01:13:18Still one on the row or two.
01:13:22During quarter, there's a play where you get the ball with Shay under the basket.
01:13:26He gets the dunk, Indianapolis calls, Indiana calls timeout.
01:13:29And all you guys play to the crowd, but you seem to be particularly
01:13:33demonstrative at that point.
01:13:34You looked up, hands up.
01:13:37Um, what's going on right around that time?
01:13:40I mean, it's the playoffs, you know, uh, it's the best time of the year.
01:13:44Um, when we need the fans to, to bring that energy, cause we feed off.
01:13:50ESPN is right about now, you guys, um, went to some smaller lineups today,
01:13:55probably cause Luke was out, but Joe had said he wanted to try them anyway.
01:13:58What kind of dynamic do you think that brought in this game and how to help you?
01:14:02I couldn't hear you.
01:14:03So that was on the going small, a little bit smaller lineups.
01:14:06Yeah, we haven't done that too much all year.
01:14:08Um, that was a new look for us, but, um, I thought that we won those minutes.
01:14:13No, Shay came in, X came in, um, and we were able to still
01:14:17rebound and get out and run.
01:14:19So I think the key in that group is rebounding.
01:14:22Um, but that also allows us to play fast, um, to match their speed a little bit
01:14:26better and get messed up in transition.
01:14:27We just got to keep these guys in front of us, um, which is hard to do when they
01:14:31just, you know, they're getting the ball, taking the ball at the net and
01:14:33just pushing it up the floor.
01:14:35Um, but I thought those guys, O'Shea and, uh, X, uh, in their
01:14:39minutes at a great value.
01:14:41Were you, were you surprised at all that they went like third string deep
01:14:45bench with like five, six minutes left.
01:14:47It's still a 1450 point game.
01:14:48And how did you kind of maintain your guys level when that happens?
01:14:52Yeah.
01:14:53Um, it was a little surprising.
01:14:55I don't know what the, um, the reasoning behind that was, but, you know,
01:14:58we focused on winning the game.
01:14:59So, um, I think that's what our focus was, but, um, yeah, that definitely was a
01:15:06little weird.
01:15:09Jalen, you were so intentional about what you wanted to accomplish in this post
01:15:14season, the work you put in being more efficient, rejecting what you wanted to
01:15:18accomplish, seeing it happen.
01:15:19Now having games like this and the postseason in totality, what does that
01:15:24meant given how intentionally you were about what you wanted to accomplish?
01:15:27You could have said, uh, I mean, it's a blessing to step out on the floor each
01:15:31and every night.
01:15:32I don't take that for granted.
01:15:34Um, so I keep that in perspective, regardless of, you know, what's being
01:15:38said or whatever the narrative or the discourse is around me.
01:15:42I just come out and try to add value on both sides of the floor.
01:15:44And I feel like, you know, when it comes to that, there's not a lot of
01:15:48people better in this league.
01:15:49So I'll just come out and take it one game at a time.
01:15:51And right now we, uh, we've got two home games and we're looking for the next.
01:15:57Jay, you're, I mean, people have talked, discussed about Gary, some of the things
01:16:03you have not been able to do as opposed to things you can do, do you feel like
01:16:07you're overlooked, slighted underrated?
01:16:11And does that motivate you to piss you off privately when you're working out?
01:16:14Like, you know, do you, you see what's written about you, you see what's said
01:16:18about you and you, you, you keep a low profile off the floor, but what, how
01:16:23does that motivate you or push you?
01:16:26I mean, I watch guys get praised and anointed.
01:16:29I feel like it's half as talented as me on either side.
01:16:31Oh, Tyrese Halberd.
01:16:33At this point in my life, you know, it comes with being who I am and what I
01:16:37stand for and I ain't really changing that.
01:16:39Um, so I just come out and I'm grateful to step out on the floor each and every
01:16:43night and put my best before I get better every single year and whether people
01:16:47appreciate it or not, it is what it is.
01:16:49No, you're supposed to say, I don't give a.
01:16:52Mic drop.
01:16:52Gary got the goods.
01:16:54Nice.
01:16:55Done.
01:16:56Well, that question was like, yeah, I don't give a fuck about it.
01:17:00Then Gary asked it.
01:17:01He's like, yeah, I'm freaking pissed.
01:17:04These guys saw half the talent.
01:17:06Jalen sounds like somebody who definitely doesn't care about it at all.
01:17:09Well, no, the first question kind of makes it seem like, oh, is that the
01:17:12reason why you went out and did that?
01:17:14Jay was like, no, I would have done this regardless, but I didn't, you mentioned,
01:17:17you know, you're talking about other all-stars that are maybe valued or at
01:17:22least talked about as better than I am.
01:17:24And I don't agree with that.
01:17:25So yeah, Gary questioned that.
01:17:26He positioned that question perfectly in the sense of saying like, how much do you
01:17:31have to do to not get snubbed on the all NBA, at least one, the second or third
01:17:37team, probably the third team.
01:17:38If you ask me, uh, when you have the best record out there and you guys are this
01:17:40dominant, I mean, it's a snub, especially when the other person is playing in this
01:17:44series on the other side.
01:17:45And, and like, like Sharad just said in Halliburton, like that's, that's the one
01:17:49that didn't sit well with me.
01:17:50Like that for me, that's the spot.
01:17:52Yeah, man.
01:17:53After the all-star break, he was not the same guy.
01:17:55He was not his spot.
01:17:57He's not.
01:17:57That was Jaylen's spot.
01:17:59And the other one's about other people getting press clippings who are, and he's
01:18:02like, it's kind of the same thing.
01:18:04It's like, yeah, you got snubbed for these other guys.
01:18:07And then he's basically saying there's guys out there half as talented, um, as I
01:18:12am.
01:18:12So he's got, he's got it.
01:18:15Is he right?
01:18:17Yeah.
01:18:18I mean, there, there, there are guys, there are guys that get praised that aren't
01:18:21nearly as good at both ends of the floor as he is.
01:18:24There's some guys who might be, yeah.
01:18:26Yeah.
01:18:26There's some guys who are better scores and there's some guys who might be better
01:18:30defenders, but in terms of the ability to play at an elite level, both ends of the
01:18:33floor, there are, there are guys who get more props and praise than he does who
01:18:37aren't as good in the totality of his game as Jaylen.
01:18:41Here's the thing.
01:18:42Look, you can quibble with it all you want.
01:18:45It was close.
01:18:46He's 16th.
01:18:47If he was 15th, the 16th guy has a beef and so does their entire fan base.
01:18:51Like it's not insulting to say he's the 16th best player in the NBA, but if Jaylen
01:18:58Brown is the 16th best player and Tatum is the fifth, that's ridiculous.
01:19:02It's not bad.
01:19:04Like, so it's not insulting for him to be in that spot.
01:19:08Um, but it's frustrating for him because he's coming off his best all around
01:19:12season, his best, like most well-rounded season where he's played in control.
01:19:18He sacrificed some stats because there was more talent on the team.
01:19:22And he's like, so shit last year, I make it scoring 27 points a game, which some of
01:19:27it was empty calories because of, you know, I had to score cause we didn't have as
01:19:31much help.
01:19:32And now that we do, I, you know, I, I, I get paid a little bit more.
01:19:36Don't forget.
01:19:37So, so I get why he says it, but, um, you know, I'm going to bring Bobby in here
01:19:41too in a little bit, but we're going to talk about it.
01:19:43Um, a little bit, uh, that Tatum that's two days in a row.
01:19:48Tatum's gone out of his frigging way, uh, to do that, uh, regarding, uh, Brown.
01:19:54And that's weird shit to me.
01:19:56Like, I'm sorry.
01:19:57At is, uh, people here will want to say it's not a thing.
01:20:01That's a weird thing.
01:20:03Basically how awesome was Jaylen Brown tonight was the night where Tatum would
01:20:07say he was, but the question was, does he like, does his voice, does he lead you?
01:20:12Can you follow his lead?
01:20:14And he wouldn't, he wouldn't do it.
01:20:15He wouldn't give it to him.
01:20:17He just wouldn't.
01:20:18He could have at least said he could have, he could have batted away the
01:20:22leadership question or how following his lead and just said, JB was awesome tonight.
01:20:26He was clearly our best player.
01:20:28We don't win this game without him.
01:20:30And you're done.
01:20:31That's it really easy, really easy out.
01:20:34Look at these guys, look at, look at these guys.
01:20:38Get out of my shot.
01:20:39Just way.
01:20:39Get out of my shot.
01:20:42I thought he was bringing him in.
01:20:42Oh, I want you guys to see what's happening here.
01:20:45Outfits.
01:20:46Look at this.
01:20:48Right.
01:20:49Exactly.
01:20:49Thanks.
01:20:50God.
01:20:50I mean, thanks for watching Romeo and bullet had cleaned up.
01:20:54You can't steal Gary.
01:20:56The same thing.
01:20:57Not a good look.
01:20:58This is, this is suits the garden report edition.
01:21:01Okay.
01:21:02That's what we've got.
01:21:03That's Gary's come on.
01:21:04Are you starting to make sure this doesn't happen again?
01:21:07You guys look sharp.
01:21:08You guys gotta be the best looking, uh, twins at the game.
01:21:16I don't know.
01:21:17It's wrong.
01:21:17Romeo and bullet.
01:21:18I weren't that great looking, but I appreciate you.
01:21:24Shout out to people who remember the Steve Harvey show.
01:21:27Yeah.
01:21:28To look that one up.
01:21:29It's what do you make about the jail?
01:21:31I mean, you, you, as you were in that room, you asked him the question about,
01:21:34uh, you know, the Tatum comment to your question, Bobby.
01:21:38Yeah.
01:21:38Yeah.
01:21:39What do you, what did you make of it?
01:21:40Cause we, we had, we had a lot to Brown, uh, to, to Brown Tatum.
01:21:44Oh, no, excuse me.
01:21:45It's the Tatum.
01:21:45Sorry to Tatum about Brown.
01:21:47Yeah.
01:21:47And how he wouldn't answer either.
01:21:50And he wouldn't answer your follow up.
01:21:52He said, all 15 guys in here have a voice.
01:21:55Yeah.
01:21:55Yeah.
01:21:55Cause we've seen him mic'd up and we've seen him going, come on.
01:21:58You're a big douche.
01:21:59You're a big douche.
01:22:00Like, and we've seen those moments where like, he's just trying to, he's just
01:22:04trying to do, he's just trying to get Tatum going.
01:22:07Like, you know, he found a rhythm tonight.
01:22:10We need him to find an even better rhythm, you know, going forward.
01:22:12We've seen those different moments here throughout the playoffs.
01:22:14And, you know, tonight I'm sure to trying to get in his ear, get him going at all
01:22:19two for eight, the start there, four points in the first half Brown feels like
01:22:25one of the main motivators who's really trying to get him going.
01:22:28And it was, it was weird.
01:22:32Like we just keep saying it.
01:22:33It's weird.
01:22:33Joe Sway.
01:22:34You don't think they had some kind of discussion being like, we're
01:22:36going to kill this narrative out.
01:22:37I'm trying to, I'm trying to give them out here, but like, like, Hey, we're
01:22:39not gonna, we're not going to give into this whole like Tatum and Brown narrative.
01:22:43We're just going to say, this is about the team, team, team, team.
01:22:46I mean, that makes sense.
01:22:47I don't know.
01:22:47I'm maybe, you know what you believe in?
01:22:51Would you respond that way?
01:22:52Then whenever you're asked a question about Drew, whenever you're asked a
01:22:55question about Derek, whenever you're asked a question by anyone, if that's
01:22:58the narrative, so no, Joe Sway, you're, you're, you're out as rejected.
01:23:04I was trying to give him out.
01:23:05I didn't believe I didn't subscribe to that narrative.
01:23:07I was just trying to help him out at it.
01:23:09It's weird, man.
01:23:10It's a little weird because the way I see it is, oh, well, everyone helps me out.
01:23:15Well, everyone was like, do you know how many, uh, all-stars out there or guys
01:23:19who were fringe also, whatever you want to call them, like that would kill, kill
01:23:22for a teammate, like Jalen Brown.
01:23:24And a lot of times Tatum's just like, yeah, we know everyone steps up.
01:23:28It's great.
01:23:28Everyone's just like, no, what Jalen's doing right now is insane, Tatum.
01:23:32And when a guy like that has his moment, you prop him up.
01:23:36Right.
01:23:37And you don't have to say everybody's doing their job.
01:23:39If it was Al Horford, do you think anyone would have been like,
01:23:41well, it's all 15 of us.
01:23:43Yeah.
01:23:43It's everybody else.
01:23:44Al's a little beaten to do shit.
01:23:46Like it wouldn't happen that way.
01:23:48If it was Derek White, it would be all about how, you know, Derek White is, you
01:23:52know, increased his role and become this star player in the league and blah, blah,
01:23:56blah.
01:23:57And it was everybody.
01:24:01Right.
01:24:01And let's be real.
01:24:02If he doesn't hit that shot, I've made tons of shots in this building and you
01:24:05know, it's great.
01:24:06It's like, wait, wait a minute.
01:24:07We're talking about Jalen right now.
01:24:08And if, and if he doesn't hit that shot at the end of game one, if he doesn't
01:24:12talking about, but yeah, John, sorry.
01:24:13If he doesn't score 40 tonight, are you down?
01:24:16No two in the series because of the way you've played in large part.
01:24:21Yeah.
01:24:21I don't know.
01:24:22It's weird.
01:24:22We talked about it.
01:24:25Split.
01:24:25Yeah.
01:24:25I was going to say, if anything, worst case scenario, you're going to
01:24:28Indy, this thing is one, one.
01:24:29It's like a meatball, right?
01:24:31You just toss it to him, hit it out of the park with praise for Jalen.
01:24:34And I don't know.
01:24:35I don't get it.
01:24:37So again, it's so involved in the sense that like, this is where
01:24:41people get screwed up here.
01:24:42It's like, it doesn't matter.
01:24:44There's the one they're going to win.
01:24:45Of course it might not matter at all.
01:24:47It's just a little odd because there's no reason to not do it.
01:24:51And you create, you accidentally create an issue, you create weird narratives
01:24:57and conversations by not trying really hard to not like you have to, you don't
01:25:01have to try hard at all to not create the narrative.
01:25:04All you have to say is Bobby said with this softball is yeah.
01:25:08Jalen was awesome.
01:25:10Jesus.
01:25:11I mean, it's so easy.
01:25:13Everybody was awesome.
01:25:14John.
01:25:16Everybody.
01:25:17Everyone has a role.
01:25:19Everyone was all hands on deck.
01:25:20Yeah, exactly.
01:25:21You know, he's got it.
01:25:22Awesome.
01:25:22Bobby can't have been pressing right there.
01:25:25Yeah.
01:25:25Yeah.
01:25:26You really want to get into it?
01:25:28No, no, I don't.
01:25:29I'm sorry.
01:25:30I can't help it.
01:25:32Just that alone.
01:25:33Everyone knows what you're talking about.
01:25:34So we're good.
01:25:35I mean, I said what I had to say after game one, it's not his series.
01:25:38So they finally went to the guy whose series it is, which is O'Shea.
01:25:42And I was thrilled to see it.
01:25:43I wanted them to do that.
01:25:44So there's that.
01:25:46I love Ben Vallis and we love the show that's coming on next.
01:25:49First to the floor.
01:25:50But I'm sorry.
01:25:50I have to disagree.
01:25:51It does not seem at all normal to be asked a question about a single person
01:25:56and to not answer the question about that single person.
01:26:00It is not a normal thing.
01:26:01It is not.
01:26:02It's very easy.
01:26:03How good was Jalen Brown?
01:26:05He was very good.
01:26:06How good was Jalen Brown?
01:26:07Everyone was good.
01:26:09It's that's it's you're actually it's not answering it.
01:26:13It's not, it's not.
01:26:15How about the leadership in his voice?
01:26:16Everyone's got a voice.
01:26:18Really?
01:26:18Really?
01:26:19Oh, she does.
01:26:21Oh, she has a voice.
01:26:22Oh, she's got the same voice.
01:26:24It's right.
01:26:24And John, let's let's also let's also remind everyone as if they don't know.
01:26:29But let's do it anyways.
01:26:31He's been his teammate, his entire NBA career.
01:26:34Like, just put that into perspective.
01:26:36Like, I don't know, man.
01:26:37It's a little weird, man.
01:26:39He's the veteran only by a year.
01:26:43It's the kind of answer you give when you're talking about, like, the opponent.
01:26:46You don't want to give the opponent too much credit.
01:26:48So you're like, oh, you know, like they're pretty strong from top to bottom.
01:26:51You know what I mean?
01:26:51Like I, and this is, and I will absolutely ask this question.
01:26:58Yes, I absolutely will.
01:27:00You know why?
01:27:00Because it's so, when you like a person, John, what do you think of Jimmy?
01:27:04I love Jimmy frigging funny dude.
01:27:07Great guy.
01:27:07Brings a lot of energy.
01:27:08Person.
01:27:09No, John, everybody on the show is like, no.
01:27:12What do you think of Jimmy?
01:27:13You know, I, I like a lot of people that would mean I don't like Jimmy.
01:27:18You know, people in general are great.
01:27:19Just people, people.
01:27:21I like people.
01:27:22They're all great.
01:27:23Jimmy's a person.
01:27:25Yeah, this is not hard guys.
01:27:27It's not hard.
01:27:29Yeah, it's not hard.
01:27:31Yeah.
01:27:31Anyway, basketball time, Bobby, jump, jumping back in onto the
01:27:34basketball side of things.
01:27:36Any developing opinions as you were in talking to these guys or other thoughts
01:27:39about the series in general, as it goes forth, we talked about
01:27:42small ball being forced into it.
01:27:44I'm not going to do the old cornet thing, but did you like the small
01:27:48ball lineups that they were forced to play in his absence?
01:27:52Absolutely.
01:27:53They went plus 11 in the first stand and it wasn't that long of a stand.
01:27:56They were only out there for a couple of minutes before they put
01:27:58Horford in the first half.
01:28:00And I, you know, saw Dick light put out that it was the biggest plus minus
01:28:03in the playoffs for the Celtics.
01:28:05Uh, for a guy who played that few minutes, I think he was like a plus
01:28:0913, right.
01:28:09Or plus 18, something like that.
01:28:11So he made an impact out there in those minutes and they needed it.
01:28:17They needed the switch ability.
01:28:18They needed to be able to cut off, uh, Indiana speed on the perimeter.
01:28:22You saw it over and over again in game one, whenever they put a big in an
01:28:25action, they were just flying by those guys.
01:28:28And it's great to say that you want to trade off twos for threes, but at the
01:28:33end of the day, you can't have a team with this piece of shoe, like 70% again
01:28:37in the first and then, you know, they're slowly waning that down as the game went
01:28:42on and it happened when the Celtics played smaller and you can do it in this
01:28:46series.
01:28:46It doesn't matter to see outcomes out there.
01:28:48Doesn't matter.
01:28:48The Turner's out there.
01:28:50I know Joe was saying that the substitutions are what scares him away
01:28:54from that little bin.
01:28:55You saw it in the first half when they sent out Siakam and Toppin and Turner and
01:28:59went triple big, Joe pulled Brissette right off the floor and put Horford right
01:29:03back in.
01:29:04Just play to your strengths.
01:29:05Yeah, well, I like the fact that he was saying how right after the game, this was
01:29:09sort of something that was planned at some point down the road, maybe not tonight,
01:29:13but they were kind of forced between, you know, Luke Cornet getting hurt and just
01:29:17having to mix things up.
01:29:18So I like that he had that in the back of his mind because we've talked about it
01:29:21before going into the series.
01:29:22Like I can really help these or at least try to stop the bleeding, so to speak,
01:29:26when the pacers are going downhill, we got the second unit in there and someone
01:29:29like Brissette or I was a big guy.
01:29:33I was a big fan of the Xavier Tillman, but this is even, this is even better in a
01:29:36sense of, of helping these guys during a transition defense and just making sure
01:29:41that, you know, someone like that is ready for when his name is called.
01:29:44And I thought he showed it.
01:29:45He showed that he was, he was ready for sure.
01:29:49Jimmy, how much of the game did you watch?
01:29:52Um, just barely, barely, I wasn't, I wasn't able to catch a lot of the game
01:29:58tonight, but I did watch a lot of the show before I jumped on.
01:30:02So I feel like I've seen the whole game.
01:30:04So that's, that's what you guys do for us, for us guys who can't catch the game.
01:30:08We just watched the bonus game show.
01:30:11I kept up with his dad.
01:30:12I know that Tatum had a really slow start to this game and then kind of padded some
01:30:17stats there in that fourth quarter.
01:30:19So kind of annoying to see him not really come out firing in this game, but, and
01:30:25Jalen Brown, we've talked, you know, obviously heard you guys talk about him
01:30:28plenty, uh, second game in a row where he's, where he showed up, where he was
01:30:32needed, he's really been showing up all the playoffs.
01:30:34He's basically been there.
01:30:36Um, MVP of the playoffs so far, I think most consistent, certainly
01:30:40tonight, dropping the 40.
01:30:42I know he says it doesn't bother him, but it does bother him that he didn't make all
01:30:46NBA teams.
01:30:46And that, that definitely was part of, I think coming out tonight and just playing
01:30:50with the chip on her shoulder.
01:30:52And by the way, I love that.
01:30:54I wish that guys would play with chips on their shoulder more often.
01:30:57I feel like Tatum doesn't play with the chip on his shoulder.
01:30:59That's the problem that I think a lot of people have.
01:31:01Shoulder chips.
01:31:02We need more shoulder chips missing that FU mentality.
01:31:07Jalen Brown literally says FU out there tonight on the, on the podium.
01:31:11I think a lot of people want to see that from, from a Tatum.
01:31:14I would, they want to see like the middle fingers to the world and just try to hold
01:31:18it back.
01:31:18He tried to hold it back at the last question.
01:31:20He finally let it slip out with the half as talented as me get praised.
01:31:28And listen, I think he was snubbed.
01:31:29He showed discipline on the first one and said, I don't give a fuck about it.
01:31:33And then at the end he said, I don't give a fuck about it.
01:31:35Yeah.
01:31:36Like, and that's fine.
01:31:37We like that.
01:31:39Right.
01:31:39Like, yeah.
01:31:40And you know, you have a couple guys there.
01:31:43It came down to Halliburton, Booker and Brown, right.
01:31:46In the voting at least.
01:31:47And you look at Halliburton, engine of that Pacers team, certainly in a great
01:31:51passer, great all over route, all offensive player, same with Booker.
01:31:57But you don't give Brown enough credit for the defense and the way he's had to
01:32:02fit into a bigger team by just going off the points and the assists, which is
01:32:06basically what they did with Booker there and Halliburton.
01:32:08Like, yeah, you can look at Brown's 23 and say, all right, that's worse
01:32:12than Booker, worse than Halliburton.
01:32:15But plenty of people voted for Brown and that's for a reason.
01:32:18It's defense, it's fitting into a elite team and just overall the
01:32:24secondary role he has next to Tatum.
01:32:26Sometimes primary role on this team when Tatum doesn't have it.
01:32:28Like you saw tonight.
01:32:29Well, it's the team.
01:32:30It's not just that, I mean, an elite team, but it's the best team in the NBA.
01:32:34It's being consistent.
01:32:35It's no drop-offs after the all-star break.
01:32:38You know, like there was a stretch where people were like, wait, what's
01:32:40going on with Halliburton, you know?
01:32:42Like what, did he lose it?
01:32:43And then, yeah, he's picked it up in a big way throughout the postseason, but
01:32:46that's not what these awards are about.
01:32:48It's about the regular season.
01:32:48So yeah, I think when you think about it in that way, it's sort of like, well,
01:32:53wait a minute, how does Jalen get stumped here?
01:32:55I would've left, I would've talked about just between Halliburton and Jalen.
01:32:59It's like, hmm, like how did, how did he get the, you know what I mean?
01:33:02I would have the bit of the dough.
01:33:03I would've left Booker off and put Brown in with Halliburton.
01:33:11What happened to Halliburton?
01:33:12I think Halliburton is the one left out if you ask me.
01:33:14You can't, I would've, I would've left Halliburton off because he, he, he missed
01:33:18time and was, was, was progressively worse.
01:33:22He wasn't even his second half.
01:33:24He had that stretch after Christmas, but then after the also break, sorry, but yeah.
01:33:27His second half after the injury, he wasn't 10th team all NBA.
01:33:30That's what I mean is the drop in his play is so profound that to me, I'm
01:33:35surprised Booker was 15th in the voting and the one he was chasing Booker again.
01:33:39I know Phoenix sucked, but I mean, he, he got, he, he got what Jace, he had
01:33:44what, what Brown got to get him second team all last year, 27 points a game to
01:33:49go along with, you know, is, you know, seven and five.
01:33:52Like, I mean, I'm sorry.
01:33:54The numbers are there.
01:33:55I mean, he's, he's a bucket machine.
01:33:57He Booker's awesome.
01:33:59It's just Phoenix sucked, but nothing against Booker.
01:34:03He was amazing.
01:34:03He's amazing.
01:34:04He's amazing.
01:34:05Um, I, the Halliburton,
01:34:07Phoenix sucked, he had two guys.
01:34:09I mean, but that's, that's not how it works.
01:34:12Especially when like it's,
01:34:12one of them does not play as well.
01:34:14What happened?
01:34:16That's not how it works.
01:34:17You're not always penalized just cause you don't have better players on your team.
01:34:21You get acknowledged for being a great player whose stats are sacrificed
01:34:26because your team is good, but you don't get penalized for being awesome.
01:34:30And your team being a seven seat or a 60, like they're awesome.
01:34:33Say they were two superstars, you know, like there's nothing you can do about it.
01:34:38Durant and Durant and Booker were awesome.
01:34:40I don't begrudge the Booker.
01:34:42The Halliburton makes less sense.
01:34:44And the, uh, and, and, and, and honestly, if you're going to nitpick, I'd go Sabonis
01:34:48rather than, uh, rather than Booker.
01:34:50I know, I know, I know.
01:34:52Sabonis, Sabonis is unreal.
01:34:53You just don't watch him enough.
01:34:55So if Brown gets in there, I would've, I would've put him in over Halliburton.
01:34:58I would've put him in over Halliburton for sure.
01:35:00He had a, he had a Yoko Chess season for sure.
01:35:03So I wouldn't have left him out, but you could go Booker or Halliburton.
01:35:07You should have been also.
01:35:07Yeah.
01:35:08Yeah.
01:35:09Um, we're gonna, we're gonna play this one more time.
01:35:11Cause people, people were asking to hear the questions and so
01:35:14we'll, we'll play the questions out.
01:35:16We'll reassess this, um, on the, this is Jason Tatum and Bobby's questions.
01:35:23We're going to break it down.
01:35:24Here we go.
01:35:26I'm big, but his voice, you know, becoming more vocal.
01:35:29I know, you know, in one of the games you struggled early in the playoffs.
01:35:32He was like, Jason found his rhythm.
01:35:33We got to see him find his rhythm even more.
01:35:35Is he kind of been in your ear for a lot of this playoff run,
01:35:38motivating you and pushing you?
01:35:39Like what's, what's his voice been like for you and the team?
01:35:42Yeah.
01:35:42I think, uh, it's important for every guy, um, in our locker room to, to speak up.
01:35:47Right.
01:35:48We all respect each other.
01:35:49Uh, and that comes from trust.
01:35:51We, we see the work that everybody puts in every single day and the growth from,
01:35:56you know, whenever your first year here was until now, um, the growth and
01:36:01development of every single guy.
01:36:03And we have that environment where, um, you know, everybody has a voice from the,
01:36:08the top guy to, you know, the last man on the bench, right.
01:36:11We all in this together.
01:36:13Um, you need to encourage somebody to do so.
01:36:15If you see something that we're doing wrong,
01:36:20how does that help you when a guy like him does?
01:36:24Oh, I didn't do that.
01:36:25It just, it just clicked off.
01:36:26We lost it.
01:36:28The followup, the followup.
01:36:30It was just basically, no, but not compliment compliment.
01:36:33Talk about Jalen though, specifically how good he is.
01:36:37And it was like, well, it's everybody specifically.
01:36:39Jalen, he said, we have all 15 guys.
01:36:43No.
01:36:43And it might've been, cause I mentioned the voice, like it
01:36:46wasn't about his performance.
01:36:48It was about his voice.
01:36:48So like Joe Swayze said earlier, that might be a concept of
01:36:52everybody having an equal voice there.
01:36:54But again, you're asking about one specific guy.
01:36:57So I don't get the soliloquy about everybody on the back of
01:37:00the bench who was speaking up.
01:37:03Yeah, it was just as weird on the second listen again.
01:37:06Is it going to derail the season?
01:37:08No, but it's weird.
01:37:10And again, it got cut off there, but, but following up, it's like, all right.
01:37:14What does he do for you?
01:37:15Like what's his specific impact on you?
01:37:18Let's get the followup.
01:37:19Let's get it.
01:37:20We got to get the followup.
01:37:21It's all right.
01:37:22It's all right.
01:37:23The chat, the chat doesn't want us to rock the boat.
01:37:25You guys are going to get, Brown is going to leave town.
01:37:29If you guys keep doing this.
01:37:30Okay.
01:37:31That's what I was told.
01:37:32You guys are going to make Jalen leave.
01:37:35If he leaves, it's your fault.
01:37:37Is this exact conversation?
01:37:41You guys, it's, you guys are going to drive them out of town.
01:37:45These were to turn this car around.
01:37:47I, that'll show you whatever.
01:37:50Anyway.
01:37:50Um, any, any, uh, I mean, uh, Bobby, I know you weren't in on the pacer stuff,
01:37:56but the Halliburton thing, we talked about it a little bit.
01:37:58Look, we saw a game already this year where, um, Halliburton went out.
01:38:03That was the original hamstring injury.
01:38:05It looked like he tore everything in his lower half.
01:38:08I mean, that was, I, you know, um, but anyway, that was that.
01:38:13Um, and then they, they, they absolutely coasted played down well
01:38:19below their level of competition.
01:38:20Let the pacers come back and win that game.
01:38:22And what was one of the more annoying losses of the season?
01:38:25Um, I'll be at a meaningless one, but annoying as hell.
01:38:28I mean, if Halliburton's out here, do you see any chance Indiana wins
01:38:33or the Celtics let down and kind of let them, let them steal one
01:38:36or make this a series out there?
01:38:40I mean, they have a good system to do it, but the Celtics
01:38:42haven't let down with Mitchell.
01:38:44Uh, they didn't let down other than the shooting night in the
01:38:46Miami series with Butler.
01:38:48And they certainly didn't let down once Hawkins went on top
01:38:50of all the other guys who were out.
01:38:51So they haven't done it this post season when the other team stars been out.
01:38:55Uh, you definitely need to be alert against this team.
01:38:57Cause again, you rest and they're going off.
01:39:00Uh, they have a positive plus minus with Halliburton off the court this year.
01:39:03Again, thanks in large part to what's the outcome is doing right now.
01:39:06And he's on fire.
01:39:06Goes going off.
01:39:08You still got to be fearful.
01:39:09I wouldn't be picking the pacers to win a game where he's out, but I'd still
01:39:14expect it to be close throughout.
01:39:16Like this game was, I don't think there's going to be any runaway
01:39:19games for the Celtics here.
01:39:20Pacers are just going to keep moving, keep chasing, keep producing.
01:39:23I know Andrew Nembhard got banged up tonight too, but if he's healthy and
01:39:28he's ready to fill in for Halliburton, I still feel pretty good about
01:39:30them competing, but if you can't win with Halliburton, you're probably
01:39:34not going to win without them.
01:39:34Yeah.
01:39:35Especially with no, uh, bathroom.
01:39:36I know people have heard that name in a long time, but like, that's the
01:39:39kind of offensive weapon I feel like would really help this team if they
01:39:43had to go out there without Halliburton.
01:39:45Wait, without, without both of those guys, I can't believe this is happening.
01:39:48I can't see it happening for the faces.
01:39:50I know, I know the Boston basketball gods bless this team, or I don't know
01:39:54how people want to look at it, but one way or another, like not having to
01:39:58the opposing teams is best player.
01:40:01Best player.
01:40:01But you know what this is going to do for the narrative, right?
01:40:03You want to word it.
01:40:04Here we are again.
01:40:06You know what this does for the narrative again?
01:40:08It's like, we're going to have a lot of angry, angry, disrespected Celtics
01:40:13fans, because tomorrow when Halliburton is ruled out for game three, it'd be
01:40:17like, there they go again, the frigging saddest, easiest trip to the finals
01:40:22ever, and everyone's going to get mad as if it's not true, but it is true.
01:40:26If you lost your best player in, if the other, if the best player on the T on
01:40:32the other team in three consecutive series went out and then the best
01:40:36player, the best player on the other best team, uh, you know, uh, in the
01:40:41East, potentially Milwaukee was out.
01:40:44And like the Knicks had like one player left.
01:40:47Like, I don't know what you, it just, it's a weird playoffs right now.
01:40:52And the Celtics should thank their stars with the help they've had all year.
01:40:56And they take it.
01:40:57Who gives a crap how you get there?
01:40:59You just want to get there.
01:41:01Mute.
01:41:01Whoever you see tweeting that, if it's bothering you, because you'll
01:41:04take it over, ignore it.
01:41:07But don't, and you know what, you know, the best argument I've heard
01:41:09about John and we lost you.
01:41:13John got so fired up and rage.
01:41:15So hard.
01:41:16Do you, this computer was like, Whoa, what were you going to say?
01:41:21I was going to turn this guy down.
01:41:22If, if, if that makes you angry, I think the best argument is the
01:41:27Celtics have been hurt in this spot.
01:41:29They've had key guys out in this spot.
01:41:31Previously Brown in 2021, Rob goes down in 2022 last year.
01:41:36It's Grant Robin Tatum in a game seven.
01:41:39So, you know what?
01:41:39You've been on the other side of it before, so it's your
01:41:41turn to benefit from it.
01:41:43Yeah.
01:41:43You still got to go out and play the game.
01:41:45You still have to go out and play the game.
01:41:47I mean, at the end of the day, no matter what benefits you may have with other
01:41:51teams, key players being out, you still got to go out there and
01:41:54play your ass off and win the game.
01:41:56Um, yeah, I mean, and the Celtics have done that.
01:42:00They've, they've made the most of every opportunity and
01:42:02advantage that they've had.
01:42:04So good for them.
01:42:06I'm the captain now.
01:42:08Funny how the tables have turned.
01:42:09No boys, just like that.
01:42:11Just when you thought hard, let me ask the twins.
01:42:17This is Tatum.
01:42:19I mean, sorry, is Brown getting to the point now where you rely, you rely on
01:42:23him more than you rely on Tatum?
01:42:26No, because he's still going to get that, that same attention from the defense.
01:42:29You know, I just think, uh, if you want to say he's capitalizing off of that,
01:42:33okay, a little bit of that going on as well.
01:42:35But I also think it's just a matter of, uh, every game is going
01:42:38to present different challenges.
01:42:39Not to sound all jobazula on you, but you know, I just think that's how you
01:42:42have to look at it, especially when the other team is losing a big guy like
01:42:46Halliburton, I mean, it's not official, but I'd be really surprised if he's
01:42:49able to play the next 24 hours, which is when game four is, or at least around
01:42:52that time, I'd be really surprised again, because that's the same injury.
01:42:56Uh, he, that's the same, same injury that had him out, uh, all those games
01:43:01towards the end of the regular season or in the second half, Bobby John's back.
01:43:06John is back.
01:43:07Yeah.
01:43:07We'll see what happens with the injury there.
01:43:09I think it's like you said, you feel out a game and that is the one thing
01:43:12I'll give Tatum credit for it.
01:43:13And as he felt that the game where Brown was at and deferred to him, especially
01:43:17through the middle portion of that game, after all that great starts.
01:43:22Yeah.
01:43:22I think so.
01:43:24Yeah.
01:43:24He hit him for that corner.
01:43:25Everyone ignored Tatum.
01:43:27Yeah.
01:43:29Yeah.
01:43:29He had him for that corner three.
01:43:30He was letting Brown initiate the sets at that point.
01:43:34You know, who knows where that stems from?
01:43:35It might just be Brown taking that initiative, but either way it worked and
01:43:39you got some good passing sequences to the middle portion of that game too.
01:43:42He had a night, you still feel a little ISO heavy with what you're doing here,
01:43:46but that's their style at this point, either going to win or lose with that.
01:43:50Like they're not going to be tossing the ball over the court.
01:43:53Like the Pacers are.
01:43:54And honestly, they've haven't done it all year.
01:43:57They've been a great turnover team, but that like fly up and down style and
01:44:01hand off here and toss it over there.
01:44:03It's kind of killing the Pacers right now.
01:44:05Cause they just keep turning it over and that's destroying their
01:44:09chances of staying in the game.
01:44:10So you've been the better team playing with pace in this series.
01:44:14And I was a little wary of them playing the Pacer style, but they are doing it
01:44:18better and Brown's a big part of that.
01:44:21Well, we said it earlier.
01:44:22Like, I know not to go back at Jimmy, but like the whole,
01:44:27like don't get in a track meet.
01:44:29I, we said, we said it last game.
01:44:30Like it's really hard to play slow against this team.
01:44:33You know, you have to just, you gotta do what you gotta do here.
01:44:37So it's fine.
01:44:39I think what I meant by that, John, you can't treat it like an all-star game.
01:44:42You can, you can play fast, but you've got to play defense.
01:44:45That's really what it is.
01:44:47They did.
01:44:47They did.
01:44:47And then that third quarter, I think, especially there.
01:44:51And I think that that was a difference.
01:44:52You know, they were, they were swarming.
01:44:54They were, they were switching.
01:44:55They were, you know, they were, they were cheating.
01:44:57They were helping.
01:44:57They were closing off driving lanes.
01:44:59Like they were really you know, you saw, you saw glimpses of them being difficult,
01:45:05you know you know, to play against defensively, but again, it wasn't a
01:45:09sustained effort, but I mean, Indiana is going to get what they're going to get here.
01:45:13Um, and, uh, and, and, you know, you're, you're gonna, you're gonna, you're
01:45:16gonna feel good about this overall defensive performance, holding them,
01:45:19holding them down a little bit.
01:45:21Um, guys, we're going to wrap it up here unless someone's got a closing thought.
01:45:24Jimmy, I want you to, I want you to lead the way.
01:45:26I have a closing question.
01:45:27I didn't see one.
01:45:28No, Jimmy's just getting started, bro.
01:45:29Yo, Jimmy, we're standing out here.
01:45:30Just so you know.
01:45:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:45:32You guys get comfortable.
01:45:34This is going to be a Gary Washburn, long length question.
01:45:39Damn.
01:45:40Damn.
01:45:40Damn.
01:45:42I love Gary.
01:45:42I can say that for somebody like me who didn't get a chance to catch all the game.
01:45:49What, what was the biggest recap for you?
01:45:52Not, not quite, but tell me what the biggest difference wasn't that enabled
01:45:55the Celtics to win by such a wide margin compared to game one.
01:45:59And is that pretty much it for the series now?
01:46:01Just based on what you guys thought tonight is, is it over?
01:46:03We're not even going to give India a chance to, to play at home.
01:46:06We just, it's pretty much over and done with.
01:46:10Should be, but I mean, we'll see what happens.
01:46:12And what was the difference though?
01:46:15From game two to game three, the rebounding, the defense, you know, just
01:46:21overall, all hands on deck type of approach, especially we clean the glass.
01:46:25Second chance opportunities.
01:46:26I mean, they got like what?
01:46:27Nine, 10 and that's kind of in the first half and the first half.
01:46:30So like just the gap between the two teams, I honestly didn't think, I mean, I
01:46:35knew that's a big part going into the series, but I didn't think the
01:46:36Celtics would out rebounded them by such, such a significant margin.
01:46:39And it felt like all five guys were, were, were cleaning the glass.
01:46:43I mean, Al almost had 10 by halftime.
01:46:45So yeah, I just think that was a big part of it.
01:46:48And then just seeing the game play out the way it did in the second half.
01:46:51Jalen going off, you know, uh, everyone just sort of doing their part.
01:46:55Derek White drew a holiday.
01:46:56I thought they were rock solid in the backcourt.
01:46:59It was just a lot.
01:46:59It was overwhelming for the, for the pacers, if you ask me.
01:47:01Yeah.
01:47:02A lot of the same stuff, but small ball and defense and rebounding, as he
01:47:05mentioned, that make a big difference.
01:47:09Nice.
01:47:09Anything else to ask my dogs?
01:47:11No, that's it for me.
01:47:13Thank you for your wisdom, Jimmy.
01:47:17We needed you.
01:47:18We needed your buddy.
01:47:19I'm glad you made it.
01:47:20Yeah, I'm glad I can make it.
01:47:22Listen, the hard hats coming in hot.
01:47:24That was good.
01:47:26Yeah.
01:47:26You listen to me.
01:47:27If they didn't pull a W-10, I'm probably not making it on this show.
01:47:30But can we, can we count on you for a Saturday, Saturday, eight 30?
01:47:33I will be there.
01:47:34I will be loud and proud Saturday night from the, from right here, the lofts ready to go.
01:47:40So the loft, hopefully see you boys on the show too.
01:47:46Are you, are you guys traveling?
01:47:49Yes, we are.
01:47:50Love to see it.
01:47:51A little bit of traveling going on.
01:47:53I'm here.
01:47:54We may get a make our return, make our return.
01:47:57We were out there for all star and now we're back.
01:47:59Indie fans, we love you.
01:48:01We were out there for all star and now we're back Indy 500 as well.
01:48:05Damn.
01:48:07Yeah, exactly.
01:48:09Well, it's going to be that weekend.
01:48:12All right.
01:48:12Hey, thank you guys for joining us.
01:48:14Some things were said, you know, some feelings, some feelings were heard.
01:48:19I'm sure.
01:48:19But we'll, we'll, we'll, we will grow.
01:48:21We will go on.
01:48:22We love all of you equally.
01:48:23Okay.
01:48:23It's not about any one of you guys in the chat.
01:48:25It's every one of you.
01:48:27You guys are all great.
01:48:29Equally great.
01:48:31You know, there's a lot of guys out there that, that, that offer a lot to this chat.
01:48:36I can't do that to blurb.
01:48:37I love blurb.
01:48:37He's, he's, he's, he's one of, he's one of one.
01:48:40Okay.
01:48:41That's how I answer the question.
01:48:42Okay.
01:48:43I would've got, yeah, that's how I answer the question.
01:48:47Take notes, buddy.
01:48:48Um, but yes, thank you guys.
01:48:51We love it.
01:48:52Oh, this is a good way to end it.
01:48:54Guys.
01:48:54We've, we've gone this far guys.
01:48:58Wouldn't be a night without that.
01:49:00Shot.
01:49:01We shout out to Joe Sway.
01:49:02It's at 364 days until his birthday.
01:49:05Uh, officially.
01:49:06Oh, yes.
01:49:07Right.
01:49:07Yeah.
01:49:07It's after midnight.
01:49:09Nice.
01:49:10Wow.
01:49:10Happy birthday.
01:49:11You guys.
01:49:11Thank you guys.
