Sad reason why bunny keeps asking for hugs

00:00 A previous owner passed away, she was taken to the rescue and she had a few little belongings as well.
00:04 So she had this beautiful ceramic flower bulb which came with her.
00:07 We think she was very loved but that experience of leaving her loved one must have been quite traumatic for her.
00:17 The rescue wanted to be really careful with rehoming Winnie because she needed the right type of home.
00:21 She was in the shelter we think for about a year.
00:24 She was rehomed a couple of times and then taken back to the rescue.
00:26 We went to visit a rescue and when we walked over toward the area where Winnie was being kept,
00:32 she came running around the corner and came over to greet us.
00:34 We really fell in love with Winnie.
00:37 From the day we bought her home, we let her kind of explore her new space
00:41 and she just wanted cuddles all afternoon that first day and that's just continued.
00:46 Winnie is so loving, she's like a Labrador.
00:49 She'll really nettle into your body if you let her.

01:12 Winnie is very food motivated.
01:15 We've got a little bell and when we ring the bell, she will come from anywhere in the house.
01:19 She's learnt the sound of the fridge door opening. If you're in the kitchen and you're doing stuff in the fridge,
01:23 she will suddenly appear at your feet just to see if there's any little treat that you might have for her.
01:27 Often when she decides that it's time for a treat now, she'll go over to the shelf and just kind of look up at it
01:33 and then look at you and then look back at the jar.
01:35 So she is a very clear communicator.
01:37 She tells you what she wants.
01:39 The challenge is in not always letting her have what she wants because she's very cute and it's easy to just give in to it.
01:45 She seems to enjoy her own company quite a lot.
01:48 That's quite unusual for rabbits really.
01:50 They generally are happier if they have a rabbit companion.
01:53 We may try and find a rabbit friend for her at some point in the future, but for now she's happy by herself.
01:58 One of the things that makes me happiest is sometimes we hear her just running around upstairs by herself doing zinis.
02:04 There's no one there. Like she's just so happy up there and that's really rewarding.
02:07 Winnie has a condition called sore hock and it's where the fur on the bottom of their feet starts to wear away
02:14 and then they can get sores that develop that are quite painful.
02:16 One of the issues that we have with Winnie is that she over grooms and we think that that's a stress behavior.
02:21 We're working with our vet to try and overcome that, but our strategy at the moment is to wrap her feet up in socks when they're bad
02:27 just to protect them so it doesn't really bother her.
02:30 The level of trust that she's shown us right from day one blows me away, honestly.
02:34 I would tell her that she's very much loved, that she's in her forever home now
02:38 and she doesn't have to worry about that anymore.
