00:00 We didn't have our own house before. It was 2-3 years ago when we decided to acquire a subdivision lot in Lipa City.
00:09 During the pandemic, the lockdown, we crossed on YouTube videos with regards to tiny houses.
00:16 That's where we got inspired. Although we continued acquiring the property in Lipa City,
00:21 I also told her that on her 40th birthday, we will celebrate our birthday in our own house.
00:28 But if we will build our subdivision lot there, with the budget also,
00:33 we will finish it at that location.
00:37 So we decided to build it in a small house where the lot is readily available.
00:43 So whatever our budget is, we will build it in our own house.
00:54 Because here in the Philippines, there are a lot of small houses.
00:58 But we thought, "We can improve it."
01:00 It's a bit different that it's not the standard, "Oh, it's a small house."
01:05 The construction started at the end of July.
01:11 It finished around December last year.
01:14 And we moved in January 2021.
01:23 So it's 3m x 9m with 2 lofts that are 3x3.
01:30 So 3x9, that's 27 square meters, the ground floor.
01:34 And then you have 18 square meters of lofts.
01:38 They are on the left and right sides.
01:40 So 3x3, 3x3.
01:42 All the spaces in the house are 3x3.
01:46 The kitchen is 3x3, the living area is 3x3, the bathroom is 3x3, the toilet is 3x3,
01:53 the bedroom is 3x3, the entertainment area is also 3x3.
02:00 And the middle part is open, high ceiling so it still looks big.
02:04 We want to enjoy the openness of the layout.
02:07 It looks more spacious if it's open.
02:10 Because if you're lying in the bedroom, you feel like your bedroom is on the other side.
02:16 Because our TV is on the other side.
02:19 Initially, our plan is to use container vans.
02:28 But after researching on YouTube, there are some pros and cons.
02:33 Our materials, we use concrete and wood framing.
02:36 And then for those areas that have water, like toilet, bathrooms, and kitchens,
02:44 we use concrete.
02:46 And for the rest of the house, we use wood framing so it's light.
02:50 And then for the wall, we use a long span, thick iron, which is 0.6.
02:57 I think it's custom.
03:00 For example, the height is 4.5 meters.
03:03 So they will put the whole 4.5 meters so it makes it solid.
03:07 So my roof is the same.
03:10 My roof is 11 meters.
03:13 There's no cut, it's straight.
03:15 So I'm not worried about the iron getting caught or something.
03:18 So more on, it's also like a container van.
03:22 It's just that my framing is our traditional cement and wood framing.
03:32 The concept is a tiny house, but our bathroom and toilet are like one room.
03:39 We made sure that the house is very comfortable even if it's small.
03:44 It's like our space for vacation, for relaxation,
03:50 when we're tired from working.
03:52 So we made sure that the house, even if it's small, is comfortable enough for us to stay.
03:59 Because it's a tiny house, some might think that the toilet or bathroom is small.
04:03 But when you see it, it's 3x3.
04:06 I really made sure that I have a bathtub because of the tiny house.
04:11 This is designed so that the space is small, but everything is functional.
04:19 And then the dining area, you can do a lot of arrangements.
04:23 If your guests want to eat outside, they can.
04:28 If they want to eat inside, they can.
04:30 If they want to eat at the bar, they can.
04:32 So that's my favorite part.
04:34 So we just lower the lights like this.
04:41 Something like that.
04:43 Okay.
04:44 And then we can...
04:46 We can pull this here.
04:52 There.
04:53 And then we can move this one here.
04:56 Like that.
04:57 Okay.
04:59 There's a lot of purpose.
05:03 And then if they want a bench, you can pull out.
05:07 We have this.
05:09 This is a bit heavy because it's a bench.
05:12 And this can also be a table, actually.
05:14 My advice is, when you're building a house,
05:19 think about what you want to use.
05:22 Especially if it's a tiny house, the space is limited.
05:25 Because what we did, we bought items like microwave, refrigerator.
05:30 We measured the size that should fit here.
05:35 We made sure that it's available.
05:38 We bought it ahead so that when we're building the modular cabinets, it's exact.
05:44 It has a purpose that any major renovation will really cost a lot.
05:51 So that's it.
05:52 Just plan it well.
05:53 This is my favorite part of the house.
05:55 I have laundry here even though it's in the bathroom.
05:58 Come here.
06:00 This is the laundry under the stairs.
06:04 And then I also have here...
06:10 I put dirty clothes in the bathroom.
06:14 We call it tubal.
06:15 So, there.
06:16 There it is.
06:18 And then the little space here,
06:21 the toiletries,
06:25 and then,
06:27 we only have clothes.
06:29 So, there's very little clothes.
06:31 That's one thing you need to learn if you're living in a tiny house.
06:37 [Music]
06:42 The people who pass by,
06:44 do they think this is how it's done?
06:46 They do that.
06:48 So, the first thing they do is like a head-turner.
06:52 And then, there was one time during the pandemic,
06:56 there was a police officer who passed by and stopped.
06:59 Because he didn't have clothes and he didn't have a face mask,
07:02 he just stood there.
07:03 So, we thought we'd catch him because the police was passing by.
07:06 We asked him, "What is that?
07:08 Can I have a picture of your house?"
07:10 He said that.
07:11 They're curious.
07:13 And they have an awareness that the house doesn't have to be big to say that the house is beautiful.
07:19 This is a mansion.
07:21 [Laughs]
07:22 [Music]
