00:00 I was told for an intimacy scene to have a glass of red wine.
00:05 Sorry, not before... Let me say that again.
00:07 [Laughter]
00:10 Just get drunk before you...
00:12 Hello, my name's Luke Newton,
00:14 and I'm here to talk about my diet and transformation.
00:16 [Music]
00:23 When we were shooting season two, I would eat anything.
00:27 I mean, we'd just come out of lockdown,
00:29 so it was like a different time.
00:31 I also felt like it was just appropriate to the character.
00:34 He's a big foodie.
00:36 I always refer to him as a hungry boy.
00:37 I always asked on set if I could have a plate full of everything.
00:40 Like, if there was biscuits, I would just have a plate full,
00:42 or cakes, or scones, or whatever.
00:44 And then, you know, getting the call and being told
00:48 that I was going to lead season three,
00:50 I wanted to change my lifestyle slightly,
00:53 become healthier, and just, like, ready to go into the season
00:57 and feel like I have my energy levels high.
00:58 So, first of all, it was about that.
01:00 And then I get the first script.
01:02 The first line that I saw, Benedict says,
01:05 "Under what foreign sun did you apparently get so sturdy?"
01:08 So I was like, "Right, okay, he's transformed slightly,
01:11 so I'm really going to dive into this."
01:12 And then from there, I just kind of relished the challenge.
01:16 I've enjoyed that whole process, really.
01:18 [Music]
01:20 Season two of Bridgerton, I would eat anything.
01:22 I looked into a few meal prep companies that I could order
01:26 because I didn't want to just go chicken, broccoli, and rice.
01:28 To me, that was so boring.
01:30 So I looked into these meal prep companies,
01:32 and it came up, like, there was so many different varieties
01:36 of things that I could eat.
01:37 So I would have chicken, rice, and broccoli,
01:39 but there'd be some nice sauce.
01:40 That's the thing, like, I wouldn't deprive myself
01:43 of making it taste nice.
01:44 I love avocado.
01:45 I know some people hate it, but I just love it so much.
01:49 And I'm told that it's really good for your gut.
01:51 So I have that probably most days.
01:53 Eggs, I love eggs.
01:55 I'll have them every day.
01:56 And then just, like, meat.
01:58 Yeah, I had a lot of meat.
02:00 I also started intermittent fasting.
02:03 I would wake up and not have my first meal,
02:06 maybe until lunchtime,
02:08 and then I would have my lunch and dinner
02:10 and then call it a day.
02:12 And also just dropping out snacks.
02:14 Like, snacks are just never going to help, I don't think.
02:17 Have your meal and let your body recover.
02:20 So a day of eating for me on the set of season three,
02:24 I would have a protein shake in the morning with a banana,
02:27 and that would sort of get me through to lunch.
02:29 And then I would have a meal prep.
02:31 Meat, lots of vegetables, you get that goodness.
02:34 And then just a low, like, small amount of carbohydrates,
02:38 whether that be rice, potatoes, pasta.
02:42 Don't deprive yourself of pasta.
02:43 It's too good.
02:44 A lot of people on set had the catering,
02:48 but for me, it was more about portion control
02:51 because on sets, they really like to feed you
02:53 and fill you up, so you would get a massive dish
02:56 and get seconds and desserts.
02:58 I would occasionally have the crumble,
03:00 which is like my weakness.
03:01 But also I felt like that kept a really good balance
03:04 for me of like having a treat.
03:06 You know, if I did an intimacy scene that night,
03:10 I could smash a crumble or a cinnamon social, or I don't know.
03:14 I really tried to keep a good balance
03:16 so that it didn't make those long weeks
03:19 of dieting and training really difficult.
03:23 I would train every evening after we filmed.
03:27 I felt like I couldn't get out of bed
03:29 at half past three in the morning.
03:30 I know a lot of people do it and respect you,
03:32 but I couldn't do it.
03:34 So I would get up, go to set,
03:36 film different scenes all day.
03:38 Maybe it's a ball scene, maybe it's a bit of a stunt scene,
03:40 maybe it's sexy scenes, I don't know.
03:44 And then I would head home, train.
03:47 I would always start with a run,
03:49 which I'm told is probably not the best way to train
03:52 if you're gonna do weight training afterwards.
03:53 But I felt like it really just woke my body up.
03:56 So I did 5K pretty much every day,
03:59 but I would alternate that.
04:00 It was not like a continuous 5K.
04:02 I would run one, walk one, run one, walk one, run one.
04:05 Yeah.
04:06 Is that five?
04:07 Yeah.
04:08 (laughs)
04:09 Should I do that again?
04:10 Yeah, so I would do my 5K
04:11 and then I'd feel like I'd got my cardio in
04:13 and then I would weight train.
04:15 I primarily focused on upper body,
04:18 but you know, since we finished,
04:19 I've had to get those leg days in.
04:21 I know they're a struggle, but I just,
04:23 I do have to do them.
04:24 It was a really fun process and I really loved it.
04:27 And it gives you this new sense of confidence.
04:31 I have, yeah.
04:32 I was told for an intimacy scene
04:35 to have a glass of red wine the night before.
04:38 Sorry, not before.
04:39 Let me say that again.
04:40 (laughs)
04:43 Just get drunk before you say, yeah.
04:45 I was told to have a glass of wine
04:48 the night before an intimacy scene
04:50 because it can really shred you.
04:52 Rumor has it that came from Henry Cabell.
04:53 I have no idea if it did.
04:55 I didn't actually get to try that.
04:56 I felt like I wasn't drinking whilst I was shooting
04:59 and I just didn't want to go down that route.
05:02 I think when I started the training,
05:06 now I really enjoy that.
05:08 You know, I love my food.
05:09 I love a binge and I will dive into that.
05:11 You know, if I'm not shooting,
05:13 I'll definitely enjoy myself.
05:14 As much as it makes you feel good,
05:16 there's so many temptations.
05:18 Favorite carb, pasta.
05:20 Has to be.
05:21 I could have it every single day.
05:23 Go-to comfort food.
05:25 I'm probably gonna have to say pasta again.
05:27 Really is.
05:28 I feel like pasta's gonna be the answer to every question.
05:31 Oh, chunky.
05:33 Something about smooth to me is like,
05:35 it feels really processed
05:37 and that's probably not true at all,
05:38 but I'm just like, I like the little, you know,
05:41 I like a little crunchy, crunchy nut.
05:43 (laughs)
05:45 That's a really tricky one.
05:47 Maybe if I was like, just about to die,
05:51 not to make it too dark,
05:52 but I would like to just be so full and content
05:55 that I'm just like, just do it.
05:57 I don't even care.
05:58 So maybe like a Sunday roast.
05:59 Cheesy veg, potatoes, meat, gravy.
06:03 Yeah, throw it all in.
06:04 I saw something the other day that was,
06:06 if you do it all, you can eat, you cheat the system.
06:08 You can never be.
06:10 I think it was one of these.
06:11 I do, yeah.
06:13 And I'm sure that probably upsets a lot of people
06:16 because I know people don't like it,
06:17 but I do, I love it.
06:19 I have a coffee every morning in bed.
06:20 I go out to my local coffee shop,
06:22 come back, I sit back in bed.
06:25 I also have a TV in my room.
06:26 I know people say you aren't supposed to do that,
06:28 but it's the little pleasures in life
06:31 that I don't want to get rid of, but yeah.
06:33 I'm Luke Newton and that's what my diet looks like.
06:35 (upbeat music)
