00:00Thanks for joining me for this week ahead weather forecast from the Met
00:03office. At times it will look like the middle of June but for most of this week
00:08it won't feel like the middle of June. Certainly the start of the week on the
00:12chilly side. This low pressure brought some wet weather across the southeast on
00:15Monday morning. That's clearing away. High pressure is nearby but we're kind of
00:19between high and low pressure which means the air is coming down from the
00:23Arctic hence the chill. It is going to be feeling pretty fresh certainly for the
00:28next couple of days. We will see something of a change as we go towards
00:32the end of the week but it's not going to warm up significantly. These are the
00:35temperatures on Tuesday afternoon. Many places well stumbling into the mid-teens
00:40at best maybe a 17 across the south. Look at that 11 or 12 on some of those North
00:45Sea coast. With that brisk breeze it will feel even colder. Comparing those
00:49temperatures to the average for the middle of June you can see that pretty
00:53much across the board we are below average. In some places quite a bit
00:58below three to six degrees. So yes it will feel quite chilly on Tuesday as
01:03said not really feeling like June at all. In fact we're feeling more like March
01:07with those northerly winds bringing quite a lot of cloud and a few showers
01:10as well. Scattering the showers over northern and eastern Scotland. Most of
01:14the focus for the showers will be across northern England down to the East
01:17Midlands and across Lincolnshire, East Anglia and the southeast. The odd one
01:21possible further west but I suspect much of Northern Ireland, Western
01:24Scotland, Wales, southwest England will stay dry and fine. There'll be some sunny
01:28spirals as well but so with that northerly breeze it's never going to feel
01:31warm even when the sun is out. Now high pressure does try and topple in and
01:36Wednesday looks like a pretty good day under the ridge of high pressure. The
01:40isobars are opening up as well so the winds won't be as strong. Still a
01:44noticeable breeze across the northeast of Scotland with a few showers here and
01:49a sprinkling of showers possible over parts of eastern England but very hit
01:53and miss. I suspect many places will be dry on Wednesday and certainly a lot of
01:56fine weather out west. There'll still be a fair bit of cloud at times but there
02:01should be a bit more sunshine. The winds will be lighter so temperatures not much
02:05higher and still below average but it'll probably just feel a little bit warmer
02:09at least on Wednesday after what will have been a fairly chilly start. Then we
02:14see more of a significant change from the middle of the week. The high pressure
02:17topples away and look at this low pressure and weather fronts come
02:20swinging in from the Atlantic. That will change the wind direction at least but
02:25these weather fronts will also bring outbreaks of rain. It may well start dry
02:30and bright particularly in eastern areas but steadily clouding over. The rain into
02:33Wales, southwest England and Northern Ireland before lunch then spreading into
02:37parts of Scotland, northern England and the Midlands eventually getting into
02:42some eastern counties late in the day. But parts of East Anglia, the southeast,
02:46the far northeast of Scotland may stay dry until after the evening rush hour.
02:51But further west turning wet and windy. Temperatures similar to Wednesday's
02:57values but obviously a very different feeling day with the clouds, the outbreaks
03:01of rain and the gusty winds. But the winds have at least switched direction.
03:06As we go through Thursday night and into Friday a low pressure really moves in
03:12and this one's going to sit around even into the weekend. Some question mark
03:16about how quickly these weather fronts push further north and so weather
03:18rain bands sit on Friday. But with low pressure here that's just going to
03:22generate lots of showers across the country. So again it may start dry and
03:27fine but shower clouds will bubble up through the day. They'll zip through on a
03:30on a fairly brisk wind in some locations. Heavy possibly thundery showers. Won't
03:35rain all day. There'll be some brighter spells between those showers and
03:39temperatures ticking up potentially at least on the thermometer the warmest
03:43day of the week. 16, 17 maybe 18, 19 possibly a 20 between the showers with
03:48some brighter spells. That's because the wind has switched direction. But of course
03:51when the showers come along with that breeze it still isn't going to feel
03:54particularly warm. And that low pressure likely to hang around and dominate
03:58things into the weekend as well. So keeping things showering in the south
04:01in particular keeping things fairly breezy. Let's just rewind the clock and go
04:07back a few days because we do have this ridge of high pressure toppling in from
04:11the middle of the week. Just to show you how the winds will change direction. So
04:14we start the week don't forget with this northerly wind bringing the chill. Then
04:17the low pressure will develop and move in pushing the high away this low then
04:23milling around. So yes the air will be warmer come the end of the week than how
04:29we start the week and temperatures will be back closer to average. But of course
04:32with the breeze and with some showers it's still not going to feel all that
04:37pleasant. As always for the day-to-day details do keep up to date through the
04:42rest of this week. Best way to do that if you're watching on YouTube is to hit
