00:00Hi there, a brief hot spell this week for many, but not all of us, and then temperatures
00:06return to normal by the weekend. At the moment, the jet stream is to the north of the UK,
00:11not something we've seen much of this June so far. High pressure drifting east, allowing
00:16increasingly high temperatures to be drawn north across the UK during Tuesday and into
00:23Wednesday. Now, daytime temperatures are going to vary quite a lot from place to place and
00:28from day to day. I'll come on to that in a moment, but one thing we'll all notice are
00:32the warm nights. These are the temperatures first thing Tuesday, and these kinds of temperatures
00:37overnight are not something we've been particularly used to so far this summer, so perhaps an
00:43uncomfortable night for sleeping in some places. Certainly a sunny start to the day for much
00:48of England, Wales, eastern Scotland on Tuesday, but western Scotland, northern Ireland, thicker
00:53cloud here, and some outbreaks of mostly light rain and drizzle. This is a weak front
00:58that will slowly push eastwards across the rest of Scotland into parts of northern England,
01:03and by the afternoon, as temperatures rise, could see the odd sharp shower over the north
01:07Pennines, but more especially southern and eastern Scotland seeing some heavy downpours
01:11develop and perhaps some longer spells of rain emerging across, say, northeast Scotland.
01:17Now with all that going on, it's going to be cooler across Scotland and northern Ireland
01:22as well as northern England compared with Monday's temperatures, but I think it will
01:26still feel quite humid out there. Meanwhile, temperatures are rising across the rest of
01:30England and Wales, not entirely sunny everywhere, but where we do get the sun. It is strong
01:35at this time of year, the high or very high UV levels, and temperatures widely across
01:39much of England and Wales away from coasts mid to high 20s, perhaps up to 30 Celsius
01:46somewhere around London. Western coasts could see a bit more cloud at times and certainly
01:53feel a little cooler with temperatures closer to average as this chart shows. This is the
01:58temperature difference compared to the June average maximum, and as you can see, widely
02:03temperatures are above average away from the far north and the west of the UK where they
02:09will be closer to average, and certainly around central parts of the UK we're looking at a
02:14difference compared with average of 6 or even 9 degrees. Fast forward to Wednesday and the
02:20same chart shows similar above average temperatures, perhaps an intensification of the heat across
02:26central and southern parts, but a notable difference down that east coast where it is
02:31going to feel a little cooler, and the reason for that is a bit more of an onshore breeze
02:35and more especially a lot of low cloud to begin things across the North Sea coast and
02:39some mist just lingering along that North Sea coast throughout the day on Wednesday.
02:45Sunnier skies further west, and as the heat builds in the west, could see some sharp showers
02:50or some thunderstorms developing, most likely over higher parts of western UK, Welsh Mountains
02:56for example, Cumbria, southern Scotland. Where these form, they're going to be very heavy,
03:02some thunderstorms, but they'll be very isolated, virtually everywhere will avoid them and some
03:09will stay dry with long spells of sunshine in the south and south east, up to 30 or 31
03:14Celsius here. A little fresher for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England with
03:19cloudier skies, but mostly dry and some sunshine returning to Northern Ireland and western
03:23Scotland later. Now, the change starts to take place widely across the UK into Thursday
03:31as this low swings a weather front into parts of western UK. Apart from the old thunderstorm
03:37that I mentioned on Wednesday and perhaps developing later Thursday as well, for most
03:42this brief hot spell ends in a whimper rather than a bang as that cold front sweeps across
03:48the UK, bringing a return to average conditions by the end of the week. But it's a warm start
03:53to the day across central and eastern parts of the UK and depending on how quickly the
03:58cloud and rain from this weak weather front moves in, temperatures could still reach 30
04:05or 31 Celsius in the east of England. But as you can see, those temperatures are falling
04:09elsewhere as cloudier skies and a change in wind direction arrive from the west. 25 in
04:16Birmingham, 18 for Belfast, 18 for Glasgow. A windy day for western Scotland with frequent
04:22showers arriving here, but the rain associated with the weather front not particularly heavy
04:27or prolonged. For many it's just a few spots into the afternoon as that clears through
04:32and it will clear through and Friday for many places we're back to sunny skies, particularly
04:36for southern parts of the UK. Further north it's cloudier, cooler and more changeable
04:41with a blustery breeze for parts of northern and western Scotland and showers north of
04:46the central belt. But elsewhere, actually feeling perfectly fine in the sunshine with
04:5025 Celsius in the southeast, 22 there for Cardiff and the southwest. And you know, although
04:58the hot spell doesn't last long, well it's not back to rain either. A brief hot spell
05:05peaking around the middle of the week as southerly winds arrive and then during Thursday and
05:11Friday, westerlies take over bringing temperatures closer to average and low pressure staying
05:17far enough to the north to avoid widespread unsettled weather, although blustery showers
05:21will affect northern parts of the country. Then into the weekend, we've still got this
05:26influence of high pressure from the southwest and that's going to keep things mostly fine
05:31across much of the UK, although it will stay changeable in the far north and northwest
05:36with further showers at times. With that high pressure nearby, things are looking very nice
05:42for Glastonbury. A midweek peak in the heat but then temperatures closer to average from
05:48Thursday onwards. Much more agreeable temperatures in other words and although there'll be a
05:53few spots of rain on Thursday afternoon as that cold front goes through, Friday, Saturday,
05:58Sunday we're back to sunny spells, light winds and highs of 21 Celsius. And of course we'll
06:06keep you updated right here on our YouTube channel so make sure you subscribe so you
06:10never miss an update. Bye bye.
