00:00The Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
00:18The Lord be with you.
00:21My dear brothers and sisters, welcome to Mass.
00:25Today we celebrate the solemnity of two important people in the history of the Church, and these
00:32are Saints Peter and Paul.
00:36We know the historical background of each one of them.
00:40Just in short, Peter, with that strong faith, who really loved Jesus, and who once was shaken
00:49because of that human weakness to deny Jesus, but not really from his heart, but just because
00:55of human fear, who later corrected his mistake when Jesus asked him three times whether he
01:02loved him or not, and Peter acknowledged that he loved Jesus.
01:08And Paul, he began his life as an opponent or an enemy of the Word of God, but later
01:17Jesus knew what was the treasure hidden in Paul, and he called him, Paul was converted.
01:24But both of them, in their mission, they experienced so many difficulties because of the opposition
01:31or hatred against the Church.
01:35This gives the picture of how life of a following Christ is, the life of the Church.
01:43The challenges never stopped.
01:46The hatred never stopped.
01:48The difficulties in following Christ never stopped from last time.
01:53Things continue, the Church continues to suffer, but from these great men we learn that Jesus
01:59is always with anyone who believes, who trusts him, and for sure Jesus will promise to be
02:05with the Church, he will be with us, and nothing will shake the faith of Jesus or the faith
02:11of the Church.
02:13As we now prepare to offer the sacred mysteries, let us now call to mind our sins.
02:20You were sent to heal the contrite of heart, Lord have mercy.
02:26You came to call sinners, Christ have mercy.
02:30You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us, Lord have mercy.
02:35May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.
02:42Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of goodwill.
02:47We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your
02:53great glory.
02:55Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord
03:02God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on
03:08us.
03:09You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.
03:13You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
03:17For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High
03:23Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, Amen.
03:30Let us pray.
03:32O God, who on the solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul give us the noble and holy
03:38joy of this day, grant, we pray, that your Church may in all things follow the teaching
03:45of those through whom she received the beginnings of religion, through our Lord Jesus Christ,
03:53your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever
03:58and ever.
04:01Amen.
04:02A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
04:14King Herod started prosecuting certain members of the Church.
04:19He beheaded James, the brother of John, and when he saw that this pleased the Jews, he
04:26decided to arrest Peter as well.
04:30This was during the Days of Unleavened Bread, and he put Peter in prison, assigning four
04:37squires, or four soldiers each, to guard him in turns.
04:43Herod meant to try Peter in public after the end of Passover week.
04:49All the time Peter was under guard, the Church prayed to God for his unremittingly.
04:58On the night before Herod was to try Peter, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, fastened
05:04with double chains, while guards kept watch at the main entrance to the prison.
05:11Then suddenly the angel of the Lord stood there, and the cell was filled with light.
05:18He tapped Peter on the side and woke him, get up, he said, hurry.
05:25When the chains fell from his hands, the angel then said, put on your belt and sandals.
05:32After he had done this, the angel next said, wrap your cloak around you and follow me.
05:39Peter followed him, but had no idea that what the angel did was all happening in reality.
05:48He thought he was seeing a vision.
05:51He passed through two guard posts, one after the other, and reached the iron gate leading
05:58to the city.
06:00This opened of its own accord.
06:03They went through it and had walked the whole length of the street when suddenly the angel
06:09left him.
06:11It was only then that Peter came to himself.
06:15Now I know it is all true, he said.
06:19The Lord really did send his angel and he has saved me from Herod and from all that
06:24Jewish people were so certain would happen to me.
06:30The word of the Lord, thanks be to God.
06:35The Lord set me free from all fears.
06:39I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise always on my lips.
06:45In the Lord my soul shall make its boast, the humble shall hear and be glad.
06:53The Lord set me free from all fears.
06:56Glorify the Lord with me, together let us praise his name.
07:01I sought the Lord and he answered me, from all my terrors he set me free.
07:09The Lord set me free from all my fears.
07:13Look towards him and be radiant, let your faces not be abashed.
07:18This poor man called the Lord heard him and he rescued him from all his distress.
07:25The Lord set me free from all my fears.
07:29The angel of the Lord is encamped round those who revere him.
07:33To rescue them, test and see that the Lord is good, he is happy who seeks refuge in him.
07:42The Lord set me free from all my fears.
07:48A reading from the second letter of St. Paul to Timothy.
07:55My life is already being poured away like a libation, and the time has come for me to be gone.
08:04I have fought the good fight to the end.
08:07I have run the race to the finish.
08:10I have kept the faith, all that is to come now is the crown of righteousness presented for me,
08:20which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day,
08:25and not only to me, but to all those who have longed for his appearing.
08:31The Lord stood by me and gave me power, so that through me the whole message might be proclaimed for all the pagans to hear.
08:40And so I was rescued from the lion's mouth.
08:44The Lord will rescue me from all evil attempts on me and bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.
08:51To him be glory forever and ever.
08:54Amen.
08:56The word of the Lord.
08:58Thanks be to God.
09:00Gospel acclamation.
09:03Alleluia, alleluia, you are Peter, the rock on which I will build my church,
09:10the gates of hell will not hold against it.
09:14Alleluia.
09:23The Lord be with you.
09:25A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
09:29Glory to you, Lord.
09:32When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he put this question to his disciples.
09:40Who do people say the Son of Man is?
09:44And they said, some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
09:55But you, he said, who do you say I am?
09:59Then Simon Peter spoke up.
10:01You are the Christ, he said, the Son of the living God.
10:06Jesus replied, Simon, son of Jonah, you are a happy man, because it was not flesh and
10:13blood that revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven.
10:18So I now say to you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the
10:26gates of the underworld can never hold out against it.
10:31I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.
10:37Whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven.
10:43Whatever you lose on earth shall be considered lose in heaven.
10:48The Gospel of the Lord.
10:51Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
11:01Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received
11:30the bread we offer you, fruit of the earth and work of human hands, to become for us
11:35the bread of life.
11:36Blessed be God forever.
11:37Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received
11:59the wine we offer you, fruit of the vine and work of human hands, to become our spiritual
12:06drink.
12:07Blessed be God forever.
12:10With humble spirit and contrite heart, may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may our
12:15sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you, Lord God.
12:29Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the Almighty
12:36Father.
12:37May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name,
12:43for our good and good of all his church.
12:46May the prayer of the apostles, O Lord, accompany the sacrificial gift that we present to your
12:52name for consecration, and may their intercession make us devoted to you in celebration of the
12:59sacrifice through Christ our Lord.
13:05The Lord be with you.
13:07Lift up your hearts.
13:08Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
13:13It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give
13:18thanks to you, Lord Holy Father Almighty and Eternal God.
13:23For by your providence, the blessed apostles Peter and Paul bring us joy, Peter foremost
13:30in confessing the faith, Paul, its outstanding preacher, Peter, who established the early
13:37church from the remnant of Israel, Paul, master and teacher of the Gentiles that you call,
13:45and so each in a different way gathered together the one family of Christ and revered together
13:53throughout the world the sheer one martyr's crown.
13:57And therefore, with all the angels and saints, we praise you as without end we acclaim.
14:05Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna
14:12in the highest.
14:13Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.
14:21You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
14:25Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like
14:29the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
14:37At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread and, giving
14:41thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and eat of
14:48it, for this is my body which will be given up for you.
15:01In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and, once more giving
15:05thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
15:12for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will
15:18be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
15:22Do this in memory of me.
15:35The mystery of faith.
15:38When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you
15:43come again.
15:44Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you,
15:50O Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have
15:55held us worthy to be in your presence and to minister to you.
16:00Humbly we pray that, protecting of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into
16:07one by the Holy Spirit.
16:10Remember, O Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of
16:17charity, together with Francis, our Pope, Charles Goucher Bishop, Eugene Bishop Emeritus,
16:24and all the clergy.
16:27Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
16:33and all who have died in your mercy.
16:36Welcome them into the light of your face.
16:39Have mercy on us all, we pray, that, with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Saint
16:45Joseph her Spouse, with the Blessed Apostles, and all the saints who have praised you throughout
16:51the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through
16:58your Son, Jesus Christ.
17:04Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy
17:09Spirit, all glory and honour is yours, for ever and ever.
17:15At the Saviour's command, and informed by divine teaching, we dare to say, Our Father
17:22who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as
17:28it is in heaven.
17:30Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
17:35trespass against us.
17:37And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
17:41Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
17:44Graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always
17:50free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming
17:57of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
18:00For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever.
18:07Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, Peace I leave you, my peace I give you, look
18:13not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and
18:18unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever.
18:26Let the peace of our Lord be with you always.
18:30Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
18:34Peace be with you all.
18:37Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
18:42Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
18:48Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
18:56Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
19:17Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
19:21Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and
19:26my soul shall be healed.
19:28May the Body and Blood of Christ bring us to eternal life.
19:36My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
19:41I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
19:46But I cannot now receive you sacramentally.
19:49Come at least spiritually into my heart.
19:52I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you.
19:58Never permit me to be separated from you.
20:01Amen.
20:02Let us pray.
20:07Grant us, O Lord, who have been renewed by this sacrament, so to live in the church that
20:14persevering in the breaking of the bread and in the teaching of the apostles, we may
20:20be one heart and one soul, made steadfast in your love, through Christ our Lord.
20:29The Lord be with you.
20:32May the Almighty God bless you, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
20:37Let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
20:41Thanks be to God.
20:42Thank you all, and have a blessed day, and Happy Feast of Saint Peter and Paul.
