00:00Alien sightings, one of the most controversial topics and the result of much speculation
00:14and theories over the last decades.
00:24Thousands of people around the world, sometimes even people we know, claim to have seen something
00:29impossible, something that left them in disbelief, something so incredible as to make them doubt
00:36their own eyes.
00:38Something that seems not to belong to our world, unidentified flying objects.
00:46The boldest of these quickly grabbed their smartphones and their cameras, stealing shots
00:50of these phenomena, as if they were so incredulous as to want tangible proof of what they themselves
00:56saw.
00:57But it cannot be denied that among these people there are also charlatans, characters with
01:02delusions of protagonism, or sometimes even people who are simply not aware of the natural
01:08explanation of the meteorological phenomenon they have witnessed.
01:15Skeptics hastily dismiss any evidence or facts presented to them, relying precisely on these
01:21bogus testimonies.
01:23For these skeptics there is always a reason or explanation that they may not even be aware
01:28of first hand, as long as it doesn't involve intelligent life forms unknown to humans.
01:34They seem confident as they answer in chorus no to the question of whether there are other
01:39intelligent life forms in the universe.
01:42However there are some events that cannot be overlooked, events so sensational that
01:47not even governments have been able to ignore them.
01:50Events that even the most knowledgeable experts on the subject have not been able to give
01:55a rational explanation for.
01:57Mass Alien Sightings What happens if the unidentified object inhabiting
02:03the skies, instead of being seen by a single person, is seen by tens, hundreds, thousands
02:09or even tens of thousands of people?
02:14The witness accounts of sightings of unidentified flying objects date back to the mists of time.
02:20People have always told stories of encounters with strange and mysterious beings from other
02:25worlds.
02:27The first official reports of UFO sightings were recorded in the 20th century, but sightings
02:32are likely to have been much more frequent in human history.
02:36There are several documented cases where people have seen massive formations of UFOs, usually
02:42consisting of dozens or even hundreds of flying saucers.
02:48In some cases these are probably collective hallucinations, but in others they could have
02:55been actual sightings of aliens.
03:00March 13th 1997 Tim Ley and his son Hal are returning home after visiting family friends.
03:10It's the evening and it's after 8, their usual dinner time.
03:15If they don't hurry to get home, Bobby, Tim's wife, will be angry.
03:20Perhaps this is the reason that neither of them has yet realised what is happening right
03:25above their heads.
03:27The car turns into their driveway and stops.
03:30Tim turns off the engine, gets out hurriedly and heads home, his mouth already watering.
03:37Hal probably would have done the same, but for some reason he hasn't gotten out of the
03:42car yet.
03:44Bobby is enchanted, looking at the sky.
03:47His father, a little annoyed, follows the direction of his son's gaze and it is at that
03:52moment that he is frozen to the spot.
03:55In the starry sky, not far from where they are, a formation of five lights arranged in
04:01a triangle advances.
04:03A few minutes later Bobby comes out of the house and joins them, staring into the sky.
04:08The three are eyewitnesses of one of the most famous and controversial mass UFO sightings.
04:15It is the night of the Phoenix Lights and like Tim, Hal and Bobby, tens of thousands
04:20of people are standing in their driveways, silent, observing the sky and those strange
04:26lights, unnatural lights that capture their full attention.
04:32But what happened in Phoenix is just one of the many documented events in which a large
04:38group of people witness an inexplicable phenomenon, attributable to intelligent life forms from
04:43another planet.
04:45Florence, October 27, 1954.
04:51The friendly match between Fiorentina and Pistoiese is being played at the stadium,
04:56when a whitish material of unknown origin begins to rain from the sky, baffling the
05:02over 10,000 spectators and causing the game to be halted.
05:09Brussels, March 30, 1990.
05:13More than 13,000 people witness something inexplicable.
05:17In the sky above them, four lights of intermittent red, green and yellow, that are brighter than
05:23the stars, flash in a triangular pattern.
05:27Perfectly synchronized, they rocket at an estimated speed of 1,050 miles per second,
05:33an unbearable speed for humans, to then split up and disappear in different directions.
05:41These phenomena, like many others, have been so evident and conspicuous that not even the
05:46most sceptical have been able to ignore them.
05:50In these circumstances, even governments find themselves having to publicly investigate
05:54the facts.
05:56Professionals and experts of all kinds are called upon to express their opinion, or to
06:00try to formulate hypotheses and theories.
06:04Often the cause of these inexplicable events is attributed to military exercises or meteorological
06:09phenomena, until a sufficiently comprehensive explanation is found or public opinion turns
06:15to other issues.
06:16For example, after the episode in Brussels, the explanation that was given was that the
06:21lights were actually helicopters, which seen from a certain angle, would have deceived
06:26the spectators.
06:27There are even those who dismiss the event as a mass hallucination.
06:32But something doesn't add up.
06:34Tehran, September 18, 1976.
06:38At 11pm, the Iranian Air Force receives several reports from the terrified population.
06:45Something is flying over their heads.
06:49Lieutenant Shafari is on base that evening.
06:52He's catching his breath after another hard day's work when he notices that the base
06:56is in uproar.
06:58General Yousefi, in charge of the base, sends a fighter plane piloted by Captain Aziz Khan
07:04to investigate.
07:05However, when near the unidentified flying object, the fighter's radio system stops
07:11working and the captain is forced to return to the base.
07:17General Yousefi is worried.
07:18Did the fighter malfunction or was it that strange aircraft that caused the malfunctioning?
07:24He fears they are under attack and needs to clarify the situation.
07:28He decides to try again and, this time, Lieutenant Shafari will pilot another fighter plane.
07:35Courageous, Shafari has no objections.
07:38He takes off and heads towards the objects.
07:42As he approaches, the light becomes more and more dazzling, so much so that the pilot
07:47cannot distinguish a structure or a shape.
07:50However, he notices that the light is intermittent, red, green and orange.
07:55Slowly, the objects, four in all, separate from the main one.
08:01When Shafari passes any of them, his equipment seems to go crazy, but he keeps a cool head
08:07and keeps getting closer.
08:11Suddenly one of the objects shoots towards him, like a missile, as if it were attacking
08:16him.
08:18Shafari's reaction is quick and effective, as only a veteran's can be.
08:24With an evasive maneuver, he dodges the object and promptly launches a heat-seeking missile.
08:30But the missile doesn't fire.
08:32His equipment is out of order.
08:34He has to return to base.
08:37Meanwhile, one of the four objects lands just outside the capital, radiating beams of intense
08:43light.
08:44Emergency siren sound.
08:46Chaos reigns.
08:48The following day, a helicopter goes to the site where the object landed, but it has disappeared
08:54into thin air.
08:57This incredible story, if viewed in its entirety, has something even more surprising.
09:03If we compare the testimonies describing the object seen by Lt. Shafari with those
09:08of the object that will appear in Brussels 14 years later, the similarities are striking.
09:16But if it is true that in Belgium in 1990 what thousands of people witnessed was not
09:22an alien object but a formation of helicopters, how can they have seen the same thing in Tehran
09:28in 1976?
09:31The question therefore arises, how do you explain the fact that different people, in
09:36different parts of the world, in different years, have seen the same type of objects?
09:43This is just one of the many coincidences that make mass sightings so important when
09:48it comes to ufology.
09:51Try as you may to speculate, hypothesize or theorize explanations, the facts are unequivocal.
09:59Many, cornered in the face of these conclusions, find the only possible solution to the dilemma
10:04in defining these phenomena as mass suggestions.
10:08The Psychosocial UFO Hypothesis.
10:12In practice, it is theorized that these sightings are the result of mass hysteria, therefore
10:17all the people who witness these events are actually influenced and therefore their testimony
10:23is not reliable.
10:25In fact, science has repeatedly demonstrated how the power of the human mind is formidable
10:31and capable of doing things we are not even aware of.
10:35Mass hallucinations, however rare, have been shown to exist and to have occurred, but always
10:41under one condition, external suggestion.
10:46That is, if a group of people is convinced that there are UFOs in the sky, it is possible
10:51that these objects will be seen, even if they are not present.
10:56However, this is exactly where paleo-ufology comes into play.
11:02Paleo-ufology is the branch of ufology that studies ufological phenomena in the history,
11:07even the most remote, of humanity.
11:10Indeed, before the internet, smartphones, television or cinema, there are records of
11:15unidentified flying objects in the sky.
11:20But if today people can be influenced by the media, the internet or by the stories
11:24of others about aliens, the testimonies coming even from ancient Greece cannot be the result
11:30of the same suggestion.
11:32In the past, the idea that other forms of life could exist in space was not even contemplated.
11:39The men of the times, as some still seem to do today, believed that they were at the center
11:43of the universe and that they were the only ones who existed, the favorites of the gods.
11:49What these men saw in the sky and reported in the writings that have been left to us
11:54cannot be the result of external conditioning.
11:58Over two thousand years ago, in ancient Greece, General Timoleum was called to free Sicily
12:03from the tyrant Dionysius the Younger.
12:06He is sailing with his fleet, when looking at the sky, he sees something that he cannot
12:11understand, something that strikes him so much, he feels the need to leave a written
12:16record for posterity.
12:19In fact, above the Greek fleet, what he calls a torch, flies in the clear sky of the Mediterranean
12:26Sea.
12:28Surely the Greek general had not undergone any kind of suggestion, let alone a religious
12:33one, which could make him imagine seeing something in the sky.
12:39Here too, many object that everything concerning paleo-ufology, being often testified only
12:45by ancient texts or paintings, does not have sufficient details for the phenomenon to be
12:50analyzed with precision.
12:54Without careful analysis, it is impossible to give a rational explanation, and the testimonies
12:58of the past are therefore dismissed as unreliable.
13:04But if we try to apply the same method to the story of Timoleum that we applied to the
13:08testimonies of Tehran and Brussels, we can discover something incredible.
13:16Sasselberg, South Africa, November 18th, 1993.
13:22It is 10pm on an ordinary evening, when Messieurs Duplessis and Venter observe what appears
13:28to be a cigar, irradiated with red and orange light, fluttering madly in the skies above
13:33their heads.
13:36In 1993, an object that looks like a cigar can easily, in Timoleum's ancient Greece,
13:42where cigars didn't exist, look like a torch.
13:48Haven Broad, Wales, 1977.
13:53The city and its inhabitants are in turmoil.
13:57Many claim to have seen something in the skies, among them 14 elementary school children.
14:05The children are invited to draw what they have seen, and surprisingly all the drawings,
14:09as well as the witness accounts, match.
14:13A cigar-shaped object, which emits flames of all colors.
14:19February 1946, Sweden.
14:24About 2,000 sightings of unidentified flying objects are reported.
14:29The description is always the same.
14:32Tapered objects with orange lights in the rear.
14:36Witness accounts with frightening similarities to the previous ones.
14:43It is very difficult to explain almost identical sightings, from all over the world, over a
14:48time period that varies by almost 2,500 years.
14:54What we can certainly exclude is that Timoleum in ancient Greece was influenced by the stories
14:59of others and imagined everything.
15:03In the same way, it is impossible that all the inhabitants of Haven Broad, or Sweden,
15:08who reported and witnessed the phenomenon, knew the story of Timoleum.
15:14Not only is it a testimony known only to enthusiasts and scholars of ufology, but also in the years
15:21of the sightings, especially in those referring to sightings that took place in Sweden, given
15:26the lack of internet, finding that type of information was quite complex and required
15:31a dedication to the uncommon ufological cause.
15:36So, even taking these events separately, we can deduce that the probability that the witnesses
15:43influenced each other borders on the impossible.
15:46And even more improbable is the fact that even if they did influence each other in some
15:51way, they all imagined the same thing at the same time.
15:56It is not about scientific theories to prove or technical knowledge, it's simple logic.
16:03How else can such similar events that occurred in such polar opposite situations be explained?
16:10The psychosocial theory of UFOs, given the factors already mentioned, becomes increasingly
16:16unlikely at this point.
16:19Every question remains unanswered, and every attempt at explanation brings only new doubts.
16:26The connections between events that have extremely similar characteristics, verified however
16:31in completely different situations, years and places, make it impossible to reach a
16:37solution in a short time.
16:41The only thing possible, to date, seems to be to tackle the subject with study, patience
16:47and dedication.
16:49An answer, needless to deny it, is currently lacking.
16:54However many hypotheses or solutions that can be found, the probability that these are
16:59real is certainly much lower than the possibility that in infinite space there are other intelligent
17:05life forms, technologically much more developed than we are, that have managed to get in touch
17:10with us.
17:14The fact remains that with the development of technologies we have reached in contemporary
17:18times, mass sightings have become not only a blatant event that cannot be overlooked
17:24or disbelieved, but also a fundamental tool for UFO studies.
17:31Studies that could lead to results capable of radically changing not only our society,
17:36but also the daily lives of each and every one of us.
17:42Indeed, by grouping the different types of sightings into categories, common points could
17:48be drawn up.
17:51Flying objects with a tapered shape, which might look like cigars or torches, triangles
17:57of lights that move in formation, aircraft brighter than a star that separate into four
18:02smaller independent objects, or that project intense multicoloured lights, and many more.
18:10For different types of sightings, we have more testimonies that come from various parts
18:14of the world, which occurred in a period of time much longer than that which led the human
18:19race to modern technological development.
18:24From paleo-ufology to modern sightings, many events have points in common, even if the
18:30witnesses have in no way had the opportunity to confront each other, much less to know
18:35about the others, making it impossible to believe that different witnesses can influence
18:40each other.
18:45These factors alone should be sufficient by themselves to increase the effort that governments
18:50should pursue investigating unidentified flying objects and the possibility that other intelligent
18:56life forms are present on our planet.
19:01But this doesn't happen.
19:03Even in the face of obvious facts, nobody organises effective and official studies.
19:09There are many experts who have independently collected information over the years, prepared
19:16and capable people who deserve a chance.
19:21Several have dedicated their lives to studying unidentified flying objects and could, with
19:26the right tools, find concrete answers to the questions we all ask ourselves in the
19:32modern day.
19:34Nowadays, debates regarding the presence or absence of extraterrestrial life forms on
19:40our planet are the order of the day.
19:43Anyone in their daily life can find themselves facing this type of conversation with the
19:48same frequency with which they talk about any other topic.
19:53The theme, it can be said with some certainty, is one of the most current and most controversial.
20:00Often however, the most sceptical people take sides, rigid in their position, and are not
20:05open to constructive dialogue.
20:08This happens, probably, also due to official sources which always tend to debunk any theory,
20:14at any cost and by any means.
20:18When it comes to extraterrestrials, institutions hastily liquidate the theories of ufologists
20:24by discrediting them.
20:26Is it possible that there is already an answer in the archives of some ministries, but for
20:30some reason it is perhaps best kept secret?
20:35Not taking events of this magnitude seriously enough to reach the truth would be a grave
20:40mistake.
20:43Evidence of what goes on in the sky is present everywhere online, as well as in the minds
20:48of witnesses, witnesses who are often retaliated against and mocked.
20:54Ufology is one of the most controversial subjects of our times.
20:58It almost seems that the world has split in two, the sceptics and the ufologists, as if
21:04one had to take a rigid stance for life.
21:08In reality, it would be enough to delve deeper into the matter, to be able to give real and
21:13exhaustive answers which would definitively silence any controversy.
21:21It is undeniable that the phenomenon of mass sightings with the internet, social networks
21:25and smartphones has become uncensorable.
21:29But why would anyone want to censor it?
21:32After all, we are all involved in this matter.
21:35The possible presence or not on earth of extraterrestrial intelligent lifeforms would be a revelation
21:41that would closely affect the life of every individual.
21:45The upheaval that our knowledge and daily life could undergo makes the ufological matter
21:50a very current topic and more than worthy of decisive study.
21:58Today it is commonplace, even during a simple conversation, to meet people and hear evidence
22:04of a sighting.
22:07But perhaps it is still too early for anyone to take responsibility for giving a detailed
22:12and credible answer.
22:15After all, a sense of fear of change is inherent in both history and the nature of humanity.
22:23Many of the most important scientific discoveries in history have been rejected and discredited
22:28for this very reason, although fortunately the truth always finds a way to emerge.
22:36Unfortunately, to date, something is not right.
22:39Testimonies of this kind are growing exponentially and the behaviour of the military and governments
22:44is anything but transparent.
22:48If these sightings had an explanation, there is no reason to keep it under wraps.
22:54The number of sightings suggests that what is seen has no qualms about being seen.
23:01By now, people who testify that they have seen something among the stars are the order
23:06of the day.
23:08What is the reason for all this secrecy?
23:11The facts are there for all to see.
23:14In Phoenix, over 13,000 people saw something incredible with their own eyes, as well as
23:21in Brussels, in Florence, in Sweden, in Tehran, in every part of the world.
23:28And anyone who looks into the starry sky as often as a dreamer does will sooner or later
23:33notice something unusual.
23:35It's difficult and sometimes scary to believe that other life forms are so much more technologically
23:41advanced than we are, but at this point we cannot pretend to be blind to these facts.
23:49We cannot turn a blind eye to events that seem to portend a drastic change in life and
23:54the universe as we know it.
23:58Theories are no longer enough.
24:00There is a need for clarity and an investigation that gives transparent results that can be
24:05used by anyone.
24:09The fate of the entire human race could change significantly depending on the discoveries
24:15that a UFO institution could obtain.
24:19Space travel, medicine, science, culture, art.
24:25Contact with one or more intelligent species could mean a new discovery of America for
24:31our species.
24:34When Christopher Columbus wanted to find a new way to the Indies, he was marginalized
24:38and considered a madman, until someone gave him the confidence and the necessary means
24:43to follow his theory, and the impact this had on all of humanity was incalculable.
24:50An encounter with one or more extraterrestrial races could probably have the same impact.
24:57We could acquire the knowledge to solve the most pressing problems our species is facing.
25:03Overcrowding, scarcity of natural resources, pollution and disease could all be solved
25:10thanks to superior knowledge in technology and science.
25:15But in ufological matters, there seems to be a deliberate intention to remain in ignorance.
25:22After all, curiosity, our hunger for knowledge, exploration, our need to know are what have
25:28led humanity to be what it is today.
25:32In the name of progress, we have always been willing to sacrifice everything, but in this
25:37case there seems to be something different, something that slows down the spirit and the
25:42hunger for knowledge that distinguishes our species.
25:46Maybe somebody has the information that can explain the reason why it would not be wise
25:51to investigate these phenomena, but it is not clear whether these reasons exist and
25:57why they should be kept hidden.
26:03The fact that in the face of such obvious events no one comes forward to give a real,
26:08exhaustive explanation could perhaps mean that governments prefer to prove themselves
26:13clearly unreliable and inconsistent, rather than reveal classified information, even if
26:19we must consider the possibility that these governments are actually as ignorant as we
26:23are of the events.
26:25But in this case, even more so, not investing in studies on ufology and trying to understand
26:31what manifestations of unidentified flying objects, sometimes even threatening, are due
26:36to, seems at least an irresponsible attitude.
26:42What is certain is the silence.
26:44A veil of silence that seems conspiratorial falls on obvious facts.
26:50In Phoenix, unnatural lights appear in the sky that are seen by a large part of the population
26:56and this fact is progressively diminished.
27:00Vague explanations follow.
27:02The lights were initially due to military aircraft in formation, then to a series of
27:07long-lasting flares that were launched by four military aircraft.
27:13Even if the times, shape and trajectory of these exercises do not coincide with this
27:18explanation, it is still taken for granted.
27:23When in Florence, strange, irregular sleet rains down from the sky, an event so striking
27:28and shocking as to force the suspension of a sporting match under the eyes of tens of
27:33thousands of people, the fact is attributed to ballooning, a migration technique used
27:38by some spiders.
27:40Through their glands, they create whitish filaments with which they form a sort of net,
27:45which is then used as a parachute.
27:49But if that really were the explanation, it is not clear why the phenomenon has not happened
27:53other times, before or after, over the years.
27:58And even if it had been an exceptional case, it does not explain the fact that the day
28:02on which the event occurred does not coincide in any way with the period in which the aforementioned
28:08spiders should migrate.
28:13When the Brussels Lights are seen moving in formation, with a synchrony impossible for
28:17any man-made vehicle, at a speed that the human body cannot even sustain, the cause
28:23is attributed to helicopters, seen from a particular perspective.
28:31Every mass sighting, every sensational testimony is denied and ridiculed with inadequate explanations
28:38that only give rise to further questions.
28:41But if there is an explanation, it is not made public.
28:45These are just some of the most striking mass sightings to which implausible explanations
28:50have been given, which are, objectively, completely flawed.
28:55But in reality, there are many others.
29:00There are even situations in which, not only do the explanations given by official institutions
29:05appear weak, superficial and insufficient, but, if they were taken and compared to other
29:11well-documented sightings, would demonstrate common points which would sweep away any doubts
29:17about the possibility that the event is independent from the others, and would create the conditions
29:22for an accurate and, perhaps, fruitful investigation.
29:31November 2nd, 1963.
29:35It is a quiet evening in the police station in Leatherland, Texas, where Agent A.J. Fowler
29:42is quietly doing his paperwork.
29:45At 11pm, he receives a very particular phone call, a phone call that will be only the first
29:51of many other equally particular ones, and which will lead the agent to become alarmed
29:56to the point of forcing him to start taking all of the reports seriously.
30:02When he picks up the phone, an incredulous voice answers from the other end, the voice
30:06of Pedro Saucedo.
30:08The man sounds embarrassed, but scared at the same time.
30:12He knows what he saw, but he can't believe it, and maybe he really wouldn't believe
30:17it, were it not that his colleague, Joe Salas, also witnessed the same event.
30:23The two men are agricultural workers, who were returning home with their truck, when
30:28about 6km from Leatherland, a blue flash lit up the sky, catching their attention.
30:34Suddenly, as if in response to that light, the truck stops working.
30:39The rest of the event happens in a few, endless seconds.
30:44A rocket-shaped object shoots out of the light and approaches the car with the two men inside.
30:50Mr. Saucedo, incredulous and terrified, jumps out of the truck, while his colleague, Salas,
30:56remains paralysed in the passenger seat.
31:00An infinite instant of hesitation, and the rocket shoots away, giving off a gust of wind,
31:06which makes the truck tremble.
31:09Once the object disappears over the horizon, the truck starts up again, as if nothing had
31:15happened.
31:16The agent listens to this story, a story so absurd that he can't believe it, so he ignores
31:21the call, thinking it's a joke, and resumes his paperwork, snorting.
31:27An hour later, around midnight, the phone rings again.
31:32The agent jumps, and a shiver runs down his back.
31:35He shakes himself, and picks up the phone.
31:39For an instant, when he hears Jim Wheeler's voice on the other end of the phone, he feels
31:43like he's experiencing déjà vu.
31:47The man is almost in a state of shock after witnessing something that the policeman cannot
31:52believe.
31:54Mr. Wheeler says that while driving about four miles from Leatherland, in the darkness
31:58of the road in front of him, he saw a strange oval-shaped object in the middle of the highway.
32:06Immediately after the sighting, about 60 metres away from that object, his car suddenly stopped
32:12working.
32:14The motorist, concerned, got out of the vehicle, but the moment his feet touched the asphalt,
32:20the object rose into the air and swiftly flew off into the night.
32:25As it did so, the vehicle started working again.
32:30Agent Fowley is confused, ends the call, and tries to figure out what's going on.
32:35But he doesn't have the time.
32:38Just five minutes later, the phone rings again, and this time, the policeman has a
32:43bad feeling.
32:44A feeling that something sinister is going on around Leatherland that night.
32:50A feeling that this will just be the beginning of an evening he will never forget.
32:56When he picks up the phone, Jose Alvarez answers, stating that 18 kilometres from Leatherland,
33:02while he was driving in his car, he noticed a strange luminous object at the side of the
33:07road.
33:09This time, Fowler doesn't need to hear the rest of the story to know what happened.
33:15The car had suddenly stopped working, only to start again once the strange luminous object
33:20had risen into the sky and disappeared.
33:24From that moment on, the phone goes crazy.
33:28At a quarter past midnight, it's the turn of a farmer, Frank Williams.
33:33The story is the same.
33:35He was driving near Leatherland.
33:37He noticed a strange luminous object at the side of the road.
33:41His car stopped working, the object flew away, and the car started up again.
33:48Then a certain James Long calls, a truck driver travelling to the city.
33:53Fowler listens to yet another shocked voice, telling the same story over again.
34:00That night, Fowler will hear the same exact story 15 times.
34:07Every detail is so similar that Agent Fowler, shocked and incredulous, can't help but take
34:12the reports seriously, without being able to do anything.
34:18The following day, others will come forward, confirming all the witness accounts of the
34:23previous night.
34:26The events of Leatherland were so striking that the Air Force had to open an official
34:30investigation, even going so far as to question some of the witnesses.
34:37The verdict was that these events had been caused by severe thunderstorms in the area.
34:44Thunderstorms that they said could have explained the electrical faults in the vehicles.
34:50At the same time, testimonies such as Salcedo's were not taken into consideration, due to
34:55his apparently low level of education.
34:59But various ufologists and experts openly disputed this explanation.
35:05The Air Force's theory, in fact, revolved around the hypothesis that the sightings were
35:10the result of a specific atmospheric phenomenon, St. Elmo's fire.
35:16St. Elmo's fire consists in luminescent discharges caused by the ionization of the
35:22air during a storm.
35:24In practice, they are similar to lightning, but have a wider range.
35:30The main detractors of this theory, James MacDonald and Josef Alan Hynek, maintained
35:36that not only had the storm now passed, but there is no proven correlation between the
35:41phenomenon of St. Elmo's fire and automobile engines cutting out.
35:47However, even if we accept these explanations without further questioning, there remains
35:53a fact, not considered at the time, which, if correlated with this event and the subsequent
35:59sightings in Tehran, leaves us with enormous perplexities.
36:03How can one ignore that these events are connected?
36:08It certainly cannot be said that the same series of, to say the least, improbable coincidences
36:13that would have taken place in Neverland could also have taken place in Tehran, in completely
36:18different circumstances.
36:23Then there are the cases in which the situations that are presumed to have arisen, because
36:27the witnesses of sightings of unidentified flying objects had been mistaken, are statistically
36:33on the verge of the impossible.
36:39August 5, 1953.
36:43In Blackhawk, Mrs. Kellyanne is observing the starry horizon, when she suddenly notices
36:48something unusual in the sky.
36:52It is five past eight, and the evening is passing peacefully at the nearby Ellsworth
36:57military base.
36:59The phone rings, like a bolt from the blue, foretelling a storm.
37:05The caller is Mrs. Kellyanne, who claims to have seen a bright red light in the sky, initially
37:11stationary, which had abruptly moved to the right and then returned to its original position.
37:19The soldier who answered the phone, alarmed, sends three colleagues to check the perimeter
37:23of the building.
37:26They confirm the presence of a light, placing it in a northeasterly direction.
37:31At that point, the radar of the base detects the actual presence of something in the same
37:35direction reported by the soldiers.
37:39An F-84 is immediately alerted and takes off towards the coordinates communicated.
37:45On the plane's radar, the object appears to be five kilometers away, but as soon as
37:50the pilot manages to make eye contact, something inexplicable happens.
37:57The object shoots off, leaving the pilot time to snatch only a few fleeting photographs.
38:04As the plane returns to base, however, the object reappears in the same initial position.
38:11Lt. Needham, a veteran pilot of World War II and the Korean War, has heard everything
38:16that has happened and is so incredulous that he asks permission to investigate first-hand.
38:23Receiving permission, he takes off and heads towards the unidentified flying object.
38:29Initially, when he gets close to the sighting, he thinks it's a reflection, but when he
38:34notices movement in the foreground against the background of three fixed stars, he becomes
38:39convinced that it can't be.
38:42Again, upon getting closer, the object disappears, this time permanently.
38:48In the meantime, an attempt is made at the base to analyze the photographs taken by the
38:53first pilot, but it is useless.
38:56Near that light, the camera had malfunctioned.
39:00Apparently, just like in Tehran and Levaland, approaching these unknown objects interfered
39:06with electronic equipment.
39:09The explanation given to this event is far from simple, so much so, in the eyes of many,
39:15it appears to be a considerable stretch of the imagination.
39:19The conclusions that the military would have reached are in fact complex and justified
39:24only by an intricate series of coincidences bordering on the impossible.
39:30According to the investigation, the red light initially seen by Mrs. Kellyan would have
39:34been the signal light of a radio station's antenna.
39:38The three soldiers sent to check outside the building would have seen a meteorite.
39:44The first pilot would have seen a reflection of the star Pollux, while Lt. Needham would
39:49have seen another reflection, this time of the star Mirfak.
39:55Both reflections were allegedly caused by particular weather conditions.
40:02As for the radar detections, instead they would be caused by unusual atmospheric conditions,
40:08while with respect to the camera malfunction, no one investigated further, as if it were
40:13another small piece in a huge puzzle of coincidences.
40:19All this has left many experts and ufologists who have studied the matter not a little perplexed.
40:27Though, based on our knowledge, it may seem impossible that an extraterrestrial race has
40:32arrived on our planet, the series of coincidences that would explain this incident, it must
40:37be admitted, seems at least equally impossible.
40:43But what most have overlooked in this absurd story is precisely the malfunction of the
40:47electronic equipment that would correlate this event with those of Tehran and Neverland.
40:54But these three are not the only ones.
40:59July 9th, 1965, The Azores, Portugal.
41:05Something unusual happens at the Santa Maria airport.
41:09To the amazement of those present, a cylindrical aircraft flies over the airport, causing the
41:14electronic equipment to go haywire.
41:18This is an extract from the local newspaper, which reported the incident.
41:23An airport spokesman, Saturday, said a mysterious flying object apparently stopped all electromagnetic
41:30watches at the Santa Maria airport when it flew slowly over this island on Friday.
41:36He said a white cylindrical object was seen flying northwest at an altitude of 33,000
41:43feet, and attempts to identify it were unsuccessful.
41:48Once again, an unidentified cylindrical flying object causes electronic equipment to malfunction.
41:57At this point, it is necessary to question and investigate thoroughly to understand how
42:02these events are related.
42:04The sightings in question have too many things in common for them to be ignored as a whole
42:09and just analysed individually, as, up until now, has been done.
42:16When it comes to ufology, in modern times, differences must be set aside.
42:23The sightings in question affect the entire planet, and not just individual states.
42:30If concrete results are to be obtained, it is necessary to create an institution that
42:35stands above state policies, and that can coordinate rigorous research conducted on
42:41a planetary level.
42:46Mass alien sightings, it must be said, are often inexplicable events.
42:52This is due to our limited knowledge, which can give rise to misinterpretations.
42:58But wanting to give a rational explanation at all costs, while being aware of the impossibility
43:04of doing so, is a deleterious attitude that will never lead to real growth, nor a widening
43:10of our knowledge.
43:13In antiquity, if we go back to the remotest periods of human history up to prehistoric
43:19times, we can see that man has always tried to give an answer to phenomena which, due
43:24to insufficient knowledge, he could not explain.
43:28Once, prehistoric men would observe the sky, seeing incredible spectacles such as lightning,
43:34and became convinced that an angry deity was behind those phenomena.
43:41Perhaps in the starry sky resides that sense of wonder and childish curiosity that has
43:46led man to evolve and seek answers to ancestral questions.
43:51The moon, stars, clouds, lightning, and rain.
43:57Today we know what all these phenomena are, and we take the explanation for granted.
44:03But if there is one thing that man has always been guilty of, it is haste, the urgent need
44:09to find an answer.
44:12Although history teaches us that only with patience and analysis can the unequivocally
44:17right answers be found, still today, as soon as something happens that escapes our knowledge,
44:23we settle for the most improbable solutions.
44:26A cyclical trap into which we continue to fall, like naive children, obsessed with a
44:32curiosity, which, albeit genuine, deceives us, leading us to misguided conclusions, taken
44:39at face value only because a more irrational explanation seems impossible to us.
44:45If we talk about history, in particular the most ancient, paleo-ufology, which we have
44:51already mentioned, helps us once again with respect to this kind of reflection.
44:57A branch of ufology that analyzes the testimonies, purely written or figurative, of the presence
45:02of extraterrestrial lifeforms as visitors to our planet.
45:07In fact, if we rely on the well-documented studies of ufological experts, we can easily
45:12understand that already in ancient times, man was aware that a technologically advanced
45:18being presided over the skies.
45:22Take for example one of the oldest testimonies, the 10,000-year-old rock paintings found in
45:28a cave in the Charama region of Kanka district in the tribal region of Bastar, India, by
45:34Indian archaeologist J. R. Bhagat.
45:38The paintings seem to depict beings from another planet.
45:44The findings suggest that humans in prehistoric times may have seen or imagined beings from
45:50other planets, which still creates curiosity among people and researchers today.
45:56Extensive research is needed for further discoveries.
46:00Chhattisgarh does not currently have any experts who can shed light on the matter, the archaeologist
46:06told the Times of India.
46:08It would seem therefore that already in the most ancient of times, our ancestors had to
46:14deal with civilizations from another planet.
46:19Unfortunately, the type of relationship that many of those times had established with these
46:23presumed visitors is unknown, however, going fast forward in time, we have other finds
46:30that can help us understand how the relationship between humans and these unknown civilizations
46:35evolved.
46:38There are numerous illustrations, sculptures and written testimonies, some even contained
46:43in the Old Testament, which would attest to a close relationship between the most ancient
46:48civilizations and an extraterrestrial race.
46:53From the evidence we have in fact, we can understand that not only were our ancestors
46:58aware of the existence of this extraterrestrial race, not only that they even lived in close
47:03contact with these beings, but also that they were considered divinities to all intents
47:08and purposes.
47:13This could demonstrate how our knowledge in the field of ufology, instead of progressing,
47:19has progressively regressed, leading us today to a ruthless scepticism.
47:25When it comes to aliens, what we are doing, discrediting the theories of the presence
47:30of extraterrestrial races, is not so different from what past societies, like that of the
47:35Sumerians, did, which seem to have idealized these technologically much more advanced civilizations
47:42by elevating them to gods.
47:45The only difference is that today, perhaps due to a greater pride and a sense of absolute
47:50superiority and arrogance, we cannot accept that there is a civilization that has outclassed
47:56us from a scientific or technological point of view.
48:01So if they were once gods, in our desecrating contemporary society, their existence is not
48:08even admitted, and what happens before our eyes is ignored and is classified as fairy
48:13tales or urban legends.
48:19All we have today is information scattered across the web by individual citizens who
48:24refuse to be marginalized and ridiculed.
48:29Subjects individually try to put together the pieces of a mosaic which is much larger
48:34than themselves.
48:35Driven by the insatiable curiosity of those who want to get to the truth at all costs.
48:42Normal people who cannot accept approximate answers and try to unite as best they can
48:47to work together and finally find a satisfactory solution to these questions.
48:55But if any legacy of the past is considered unusable as evidence, if every testimony of
49:01individuals is discredited and disassembled by any means, if absurd hypotheses are preferred
49:07to rational deductions, mass sightings remain the only means of demonstrating to the human
49:13race its own blindness.
49:18The Night of the Phoenix Lights is an event that cannot be speculated about, especially
49:23if it is linked to other similar sightings.
49:27The strange snow that fell on Florence on October 27th 1954 is an established fact and
49:34there are numerous elements of proof of what happened as well as the memories of thousands
49:38of people and everyone is aware that the explanation provided is not tenable.
49:45There are too many gaps and too many commonalities in different groups and types of sightings
49:51for sceptics to still try to give an explanation based on the insufficient knowledge we have.
50:00Of course it must be admitted that there have been false reports and false witness accounts.
50:07There definitely are people who take advantage of the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects
50:12to experience brief moments of fame, to attract attention.
50:18But this cannot divert attention from all the other valid testimonies that deserve further
50:23study.
50:25Certainly, at times, atmospheric phenomena or particular meteorological conditions have
50:31caused involuntary errors by people who, albeit in good faith, have confused rare and incredible
50:38natural events with alien sightings, but for this reason not all reports should be interpreted
50:45as false.
50:47It is necessary to understand which sightings should be discarded for one or another reason
50:52and to separate these errors or misunderstandings from those real events that require more specific
50:58analysis.
51:01Only in this way can ufology be transformed into a field of research that is as exact
51:06as possible so that the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects can be studied with the seriousness
51:12it deserves and finally, over time, it will be able to reach a real and definitive conclusion.
51:20Having a closed and oppressive attitude is certainly not the most appropriate solution
51:25to deal with the problem.
51:27The media circus and humiliation which ufological experts are sometimes subjected to is often
51:33due not only to widespread ignorance but also to the fact that these same experts are often
51:39forced to formulate their theories without adequate tools, tools that could bring information
51:45and evidence to support their thesis.
51:49There may be some experts who exploit the theme of ufology to gain notoriety, but one
51:55cannot therefore think that every student of unidentified flying objects is a charlatan.
52:06Often those who report the sightings are more than respectable people who have gained
52:10nothing by telling the truth except a series of rude and negative names ranging from mythomaniac
52:17to crazy.
52:21It is enough to listen to Lt. Jafari's statement to understand that we are dealing with a serious
52:26person, a person who carries with him real concern for what he evidently saw with his
52:32own eyes.
52:35His furrowed brow, his rigid and rigorous bearing and his calm and authoritative voice
52:41leave no room for lies or trifles.
52:48It is enough to see him recounting what he witnessed first hand to convince us that the
52:53man is not lying, he has not had a vision and he just wants somebody to clarify what
53:00unequivocally happened.
53:08Like Lt. Jafari, like Tim Ley's family from Phoenix, like the fans of Florence, like the
53:15children who designed the alien vehicle at Haven Broad in 1977, like Agent Fowler and
53:21the various witnesses of the Leatherland case, lots of people actually saw something unexplainable.
53:29Lights in the sky, unidentified flying objects in the shape of a cigar or emitting flashing
53:34lights, moving at speeds impossible for us humans and separating in different directions,
53:41malfunctions of electronic equipment due to proximity with previously unseen aircraft.
53:49All of this cannot be the result of fantasy or delirium, all of this cannot be forgotten
53:55or underestimated.
53:58One cannot continually resort to wild hypotheses such as the psychosocial theory of UFOs.
54:07More than 2,000 years ago, General Timolean left us a fundamental testimony that discredits
54:12the thesis of mass suggestion as regards a whole series of sightings that have more than
54:18a few elements in common with each other.
54:22It is practically impossible that starting from the cave paintings of prehistoric times
54:28to the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, South America and Asia, passing through the
54:33ancient Greeks and Romans, then the Middle Ages and the past centuries up to today, all
54:39the information and sightings are a figment of the imagination of some particularly suggestible
54:45subject.
54:50How would it be possible that the entire history of humanity was dotted with evidence
54:54of sightings and contacts with an extraterrestrial civilization if this or these civilizations
55:01did not exist?
55:04Mass alien sightings have been reported throughout history and continue to be a source of fascination
55:10for many.
55:13Ufology has become an increasingly popular field of research as more and more people
55:19are interested in the possibility of alien life.
55:25For this reason, to date, the information we have seems to be sufficient to bring studies
55:31of the subject to a higher level, and therefore to deeper and more precise insights and research.
55:40The number of reported alien sightings has grown exponentially in recent years.
55:49Many people claim to have seen strange objects in the sky or even encountered extraterrestrial
55:55beings.
55:59While some of these reports are likely to be hoaxes or misidentifications, there is
56:04still a lot of mystery surrounding these sightings and what they could mean for our understanding
56:10of life beyond earth.
56:17The debate surrounding mass alien sightings has been a long and ever-evolving one.
56:24While several theories have been put forward to explain these strange events, the truth
56:29remains elusive.
56:33Despite numerous advances in technology and science, we still find ourselves without concrete
56:39answers.
56:43Ultimately, only time and further research will tell us what is really behind these mysterious
56:49sightings.
56:51Meanwhile, it is clear that mass alien sightings remain of great interest to many.
56:59For some, it is a matter of intrigue and fascination, for others it is a deep source of fear and
57:06uncertainty.
57:08Aliens, real or imagined, have the ability to captivate the minds of millions, so the
57:14mystery of mass alien sightings is unlikely to be solved any time soon.
57:21Nonetheless, progress is being made.
57:24Finally, it seems that modern society is shaking off the bigotry of the past and is progressing,
57:31united, towards a real answer.
57:35A positive signal in this field was given by the SETI project, the Search for Extraterrestrial
57:41Intelligence.
57:43More commonly known as SETI, is the ongoing effort to detect signals from intelligent
57:48extraterrestrial species.
57:52The project was designed by scientists to search for evidence of intelligent life beyond
57:58earth.
58:02The SETI project uses radio and optical telescopes in an attempt to pick up any kind of signal
58:09from a distant star system, with the hope of finding signs of extraterrestrial intelligence.
58:19Surely this cannot be considered sufficient and does not in any way resolve the doubts,
58:25perplexities and questions related to mass alien sightings.
58:30However, it can certainly be considered a first step towards the establishment of an
58:35official institution that performs a constant and rigorous study of ufology.
58:43Perhaps after all the millennia spent exploring this planet, the history of humanity is about
58:49to change.
58:51Perhaps we are on the verge of an epochal turning point.
58:56Surely after having contemplated the starry sky and fantasized about its mysteries for
59:01thousands of years, the answer could come from the heavens themselves.
