01:29:30The thing that would let him express all of his pain.
01:29:35All of his passion.
01:29:37He searched and searched.
01:29:39But still he couldn't find it.
01:29:42Until one day.
01:29:47Welcome to the deleted scenes from The Legend of the Fuse.
01:29:53Where we'll explore some of the moments that didn't make it into the final cut of the film.
01:30:00We had quite a few shots like this of Adam
01:30:03as he made his way around the arts district of downtown LA
01:30:08searching for inspiration.
01:30:11The idea was that Adam had talent
01:30:15but he didn't quite have the passion to create
01:30:19the great work that he had the potential to create.
01:30:22He needed to find the inspiration
01:30:26that soon enough will be provided by
01:30:29the muse character, the Lanache, that he will encounter.
01:30:38Originally the film was going to start with
01:30:42an opening shot of the two henchmen driving
01:30:47and these shoes hanging from the trees
01:30:50to sort of establish the space
01:30:53so that we would recognize it when
01:30:56Valerie and Adam return to it in the final scene.
01:31:00We really liked the visuals of it
01:31:05but we couldn't get the flat tire scene to look like an actual blowout
01:31:10so we decided to cut from that
01:31:14to just having our guys Donnie and Gus arguing.
01:31:18And here we have another shot of Adam driving around.
01:31:21You can see a couple of the producers in the background of that shot
01:31:25which is why I like it.
01:31:27Just meant to show Adam's goal
01:31:31and how far he is from it
01:31:34so that by the end of the film
01:31:37we see that he's literally gone from being an outsider
01:31:40to an insider in the art community.
01:31:44This is a shot of Adam in his apartment
01:31:48before the muse has come into his life.
01:31:51He's sort of uninspired and
01:31:54the idea was that there was a call being made to him.
01:31:59She was calling for him because she's lost her last lover
01:32:02and she needs a new one.
01:32:04And even inside his apartment he could hear it
01:32:07as if she were in the room with him.
01:32:09But he didn't quite know how to get to her yet.
01:32:13So the path has yet to be laid out to him
01:32:18but he does have the sense that there's something else out there
01:32:21ready to inspire him if he just opens his heart to it.
01:32:27I do love a lot of these scenes, especially these moments
01:32:31where Phil as Lance was such a jerk to Adam.
01:32:36I think Phil is just hilariously dirty and sleazy.
01:32:44A lot of these scenes from the beginning of the movie got cut
01:32:47because we wanted to get our muse character under the screen.
01:32:51Elle was just so electric and captivating
01:32:55that the movie really took off when she was there.
01:32:58So we had to sort of streamline the first 20 minutes
01:33:02to get her involved.
01:33:05And this was another scene that we had to pare down a little bit.
01:33:10This is Adam.
01:33:12He's just returned from being out in the middle of nowhere
01:33:15with Hector.
01:33:17And he saw the muse that he needed in his life
01:33:21but he had to leave her behind.
01:33:23So he essentially has this fever dream
01:33:26in which he relives the experience
01:33:30and goes back into the middle of the wilderness
01:33:33and finds her and brings her back.
01:33:36And when we watched this in post-production
01:33:39we realized that it actually made more sense
01:33:42that he almost conjured her with his artwork
01:33:46rather than having to physically retrieve her.
01:33:50So we recut this and I think the end result in the film
01:33:55is actually much more effective.
01:33:58But there are some cool shots in here
01:34:00so I thought we'd show them to you guys.
01:34:02The next scene is from the end of the film
01:34:05after Hector and the muse have taken off.
01:34:08It's in the middle of the wilderness
01:34:11and they're looking for some kind of key.
01:34:14And they have to find a way to get to the museum
01:34:17and at the same time,
01:34:19Hector is still in the middle of the wilderness
01:34:22and he's in a wheelchair.
01:34:24And so they're looking for a way to get to the museum

01:34:29end of the film after our Maria character has witnessed the death of her
01:34:36ex-boyfriend Jason. We had a couple of these quiet moments with Maria which I
01:34:43love because Kate just knocked it out of the park with her performance. Again it
01:34:48was an issue of sort of streamlining the ending. We sort of feel like the momentum
01:34:52is leading us towards the big showdown here so we couldn't spend too much time
01:34:57with her but I love the looks that she gives. I love that there's my college
01:35:04sweater over there on her couch which I thought was kind of cool. And she's sort
01:35:12of recovering from trauma and she has this dirty laundry everywhere because she
01:35:16hasn't gotten out of the house in weeks and so it sort of establishes what she's
01:35:21doing when the muse character later appears in her apartment which is she's
01:35:27finally trying to clean up her place and getting her life back in order after the
01:35:33trauma of her last relationship and the trauma of seeing him disposed of so
01:35:38violently. And she's worried about Adam. And here we are back in the final scene
01:35:46and you can see the shoes that were not established by because we cut the scene
01:35:52in the first act so we cut them in the final scene as well. And one more moment
01:36:00here of sort of Adam with Valerie grieving. This is in the film but the
01:36:08continuation of the scene was cut because we went straight out into the
01:36:14forest with him but thought you guys might like to see what the original
01:36:20scene actually involved which was showing how sort of shocking it was to
01:36:26see this powerful muse creature incapacitated by Adam potentially
01:36:32choosing something else over her and how losing her lover can truly end her life
01:36:38if he were to continue through with that choice.
01:36:45And we have one more deleted scene. This was a post-credit sequence that took
01:36:56place months after Adam disappeared into the forest with his muse and as Valerie
01:37:02says threw his life into his work until his life was no more. So much like the
01:37:09emaciated man at the beginning who is wasting away with a harmonica in his
01:37:16hand, Adam is gone and his muse needs a new lover in order to continue and lo and
01:37:24behold a writer hears the call and goes into the middle of the forest and the
01:37:30cycle continues.
