Passage of anti-dynasty law part of bigger problem, says lawmaker

House of Representatives' Deputy Majority Leader and Tingog Partylist Rep. Jude Acidre says that passing an anti-dynasty law is just part of a bigger problem, which is the country's weak political system. Sought for his reaction on calls for Congress to pass such a measure, Acidre said on July 12, 2024 that once a political dynasty law is passed, it should ensure that the 'right persons' would be elected.

00:30So even if, let's say, we pass through a political dynasty law, we have to understand that the party system still would be the more durable solution to ensuring a fair and equitable political participation.
00:47It's not only a question of preventing certain persons from running for office, but it's really making sure that the right persons are elected to office.
01:03It's easy to say that we can ban political dynasties, but the thing is, our ultimate end is making sure that the right people are elected.
