00:00For the Dolphins was presented with this Hall of Fame ring
00:10Ladies and gentlemen I
00:12wear this ring and
00:14As my bus is in Canton, Ohio
00:17And I said this in my induction speech, and I say it again when you look at Nikon Akane's bus
00:23You are not looking at him. You are looking at the great. No name defense
00:29Thank you so much
00:32On Akane became the eighth former Dolphin to be in luck inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame the first
00:39Defensive player hi everybody. I'm Gus Johnson along with my partner Brent Jones and Brent
00:46Came to broadcast when you consider all the things that are happening in our country right now
00:50But can you give us an idea of your impressions of the first half of play well?
00:54I thought both teams ran the ball better than we expected
00:57I think of course the Dolphins with that last drive were able to come out on top yardage wise and point wise and that's important
01:03Not a whole lot of big plays in the passing game
01:06right before
01:07Halftime and and that was the big passing play of the first half you see the passing yards not that significant 20 for the Patriots
01:15And 73 for the Dolphins so for the Patriots in the second half to get back into this thing Gus
01:20They're gonna have to make some more throws down the field
01:22We've saw them been able to get a few yards here and there but to be able to really
01:25Control this game they have to make some big plays in the passing game Adam Vinatieri sends it away
01:31This is Chambers from his own goal line and Chambers still running makes it to the 25
01:38And it's finally taken down at the 30
01:43Karen Shaw with the special teams tackle a return of 29, and here's the touchdown
01:49Mark Smith just bouncing it outside
01:51Nobody home good block by the right side of the line tackle tight end and just before the half
01:56How about Jed Weaver big tight end you see a little push there little hand check and going on with Teddy Brewski
02:01We're taking the one-on-one verse man coverage and making the big catch
02:06Jay Fiedler in that first half of play 9 of 14
02:1173 yards one touchdown. He also threw an interception
02:15Once again with a lot of running room gets to the 35 to Bucky Jones with the tackle
02:21The offensive line doing a great job opening holes for this Miami team
02:26Yeah, they really are pounding away at this Patriots defensive line and Dave wants that I was on the field before the game sweating with
02:32Him on the field and he said our biggest advantage here
02:34The first part of the season is coming out in the second half the humidity when it's bad
02:38It's not going to be a problem for the Patriots
02:40Here the first part of the season is coming out in the second half the humidity when it's bad
02:44It really wears on teams, especially coming out from the air conditioning and coming right back onto the field and the first page
02:50It's on defense. So, let's see how they hold up during this drive second and three
02:59Forward gets the first down at the 43 yard line
03:03You know Gus we're just not seeing penetration from the Patriots defensive line
03:07They're getting pushed back two and three yards at the get-go when that happens that drives
03:11the their defensive line into their own linebackers and Brian Cox and
03:15Bruschi and Ted Johnson and company can't get up and make those plays
03:22So Smith 16 carries 86 yards
03:28Todd Wade the right tackle will not return to the game as his brain me Harry Swain replaces of Smith
03:36Running again and Smith over the 45 to the 46
03:44Plus four
03:46And it's such an advantage to practice and play every day in this humidity and this Dolphins offense. They're used to it
03:52They know what it's like
03:53They're not huffing and puffing and they don't have their hands on their sides and bending over and taking their helmets off
03:58And we've seen that more from this Patriots defense and that's just one of the elements that you've got to be aware of
04:03It's just nothing you can do really to prepare for
04:06We went to practice on Friday here in Miami, and it was so hot on the field
04:10We were standing around and almost fell out
04:14Don't say we
04:15Second and six from the 47 Fiedler
04:20Complete dire the intended receiver. They rarely call his number. He's primarily a blocker at a very good one
04:28He is a big man. He is a load down there
04:31As big as he looks right there in that picture 511 255 second year out of the University of North Carolina
04:40Makes it third down and six from the 47
04:44Miami four of seven on third down conversions today. They need to go to the 47 for a first down
04:52Fiedler for backseat
04:57Jay Fiedler stopped by Terrell Buckley
05:02Picks up 11 yards and Gus that's a plan called quarterback draw watch and take two or three steps back to sell it
05:08Seals that hole open up over the middle now watch Jay Fiedler's leaping ability get up Jay. Look at that. He had to get
05:15seven or eight yards
05:17Fiedler's leaping ability get up Jay. Look at that. He had to get seven or eight inches off the ground right there
05:25Nice call they knew the hole was opening up. He's Jay's got to be careful, though
05:30He's such a competitor you can he's taking a few shots already when you get down there
05:34You get past the first down slide five carries 30 yards for Fiedler from the New England 43
05:42Smith
05:45Stop Smith today
05:47Wow, is he really carrying the mail?
05:50This time Richard Seymour the rookie out of Georgia with the tackle, but he gained six yards
05:56I mean you're gaining six and seven on first down. You're in good shape
05:59You're in real good shape and we talked at the top of the show Lamar Smith last year 40 carries against his Patriots team in
06:05The two games only averaged 1.7 yards of carry huge difference today
06:10Quiet man talked to him and he just said hey, I'm gonna hit the holes and I'm gonna hit him hard 96 yards rushing
06:1925
06:21lawyer Malloy no secret
06:24Smith Smith and more Smith a gain of 12
06:28Little ground level right at you. This is what you're seeing if you're playing linebacker for the Patriots Lamar Smith
06:33Look at that hole open. There it is
06:36Bouncing through and he's a tough one to bring down first tackler doesn't usually bring down Lamar Smith
06:42He's over a hundred yards
06:44108 and you'll rarely hear me say this, but why even try to throw in the ball right now?
06:48This is the old defense is tired. Just go right at him. Just keep it going
06:59Stopped at the 16 Mike Brable a
07:04Gain of nine
07:07Let's check out the play inside you see Todd Perry you see Dion Dyer
07:12You see just a flock of Patriots bodies two and three yards off the line of scrimmage
07:19And it's just not happening Lamar Smith on this drive. Look at that guess
07:24Giving some water. He deserves it second and one from the 16
07:37Stopped at the 14 Richard Seymour
07:45Minor the young player out of Florida State for a rookie
07:49There's Lamar Smith. What a find he spent time in New Orleans in Seattle
07:54Came over to Miami bound to home and became a 1,000 yard rusher
08:00First down from the New England 14 over five and a half minutes on this drive alone
08:15Did I say don't pass it anymore, yes you did well
08:20Maybe I'm third and sixth third and seven you realize that's what I'm talking about
08:24Here he comes there you go. How about maybe a draw? I
08:28Think really now though is the time you roll out you did Jay Fiedler the option to run we talked about the surprisingly quick speed
08:33He's got some competitiveness. He's got enough first to get up and get that first down give him the run pass option
08:38He's more accurate out of the pocket. And that's when it's third or six. Actually, it's only second down, but still
08:46He's got a little bit of a run
08:47He's more accurate out of the pocket and that's when it's third or six actually, it's only second down but still
08:54Second at six
09:00Flag on the play prior to the snap, I believe prior to the snap ball start
09:0583 five yards and still second down
09:13And that's a big one you don't want to have those down there inside the red zone
09:18So
09:21They'll move it back five yards
09:25And here's an area where they can use Lamar Smith
09:27Maybe utilizing more catching the ball in the backseat good hand who does and we've seen run a screen pass or two today
09:32Now it's a good time for that
09:35second down and 11 from the 15
09:43They need to go to the floor for first down
09:45Incomplete he had pressure from the back side Anthony Pleasant and that'll bring up third down and long
09:52And that's the second time. We've seen Anthony Pleasant coming from the back side a guy who's got a great motor
09:58Anthony Pleasant never gives up you see him coming from the top of your screen right here
10:03Jay Fiedler just gets the ball off before taking a shot
10:06It doesn't look like it feels very good. Sure doesn't look like it feels very good
10:10Especially when you have a man that's 280 pounds on your back Jay Fiedler is at 225
10:19So Ogden and Gadsden along with Diedrich Ward line up and trips to the top of your screen
10:29And a timeout has been called by the Patriots
10:31So with 809 to go third quarter of play
10:351710 Miami
10:41That's Ken Fiedler Jay's father on the right and Scott Fiedler Jay's brother on the left and mr
10:47Fiedler is kind of a superstitious guy. Yeah, Jay told us he has four or five hats four or five shirts
10:52He's got a big mouth and he's got a big mouth and he's got a big mouth
10:55He's got a big mouth and he's got a big mouth and he's got a big mouth
10:58Yeah, Jay told us he has four or five hats four or five shirts for every game and depending on the flow of the game
11:03He switches changes to see his head on backwards now. Let's see if it works for his son
11:09Third down and 11 from the 15. They need to go to the floor
11:24No flags on the play
11:28So
11:31Dad keeps the same shirt on his son's team is up 17 to 10
11:36We'll have to check that next drive and you've got to give credit there to the Patriots secondary
11:39Looked like last week first the Colts
11:41When you see Jay Fiedler scrambling around out there getting some great coverage in the secondary not a lot of big completions for this
11:48Dolphins offense
11:5034-yard attempt for Mari
11:54Got it up
11:57And good
12:00Look from 19 and 34 for Orlando Murray and an often take a 20 to 10 lead
12:09The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Jeep makers of Grand Cherokee Wrangler and the all-new Jeep Liberty

12:26It's Domino's
12:32Welcome back a shot of South Beach here in Miami
12:3620 to 10 the Dolphins lead the Patriots Kevin Faulk
12:40Will take a knee nine yards in his own end zone
12:44And we will take another break
12:46Coming up Tom Brady and the Patriots look to get something going on offense

13:07Rooting for the defense here first down at 10 for the Pats at their own 20 play action Brady
13:14That's up
13:19Edwards the intended receiver he takes a lick from Derek Rodgers
13:28So now down 20 to 10 Brent the Patriots have to
13:33Let Tom Brady throw the football. Yeah, they do and they're gonna have to have that offensive line
13:38Keep his defensive line for Miami from getting in his face a lot of pressure that time from the inside guys Tim Bowen's down Gardner
13:45claps in that pocket
13:49Second intent
13:52Here's the pitch to Smith
13:54I can take it back
13:57Dolphins finally is written out of bounds by Greenwood
14:01Now
14:06At this point in the season, here's a question for you which team has been the most impressive Green Bay
14:12San Diego and st. Louis are all undefeated
14:16Brent, what do you think? Well, you know, we like st. Louis. Everybody expects them to be undefeated. How about San Diego?
14:22I'd say right now
14:23Doug Flutie the little general and those Chargers that were 1 in 15 last year
14:31I know you're a big Doug Flutie fan. Yes, I am
14:333rd and 6th from the 24
14:35For the Patriots, they need to go to the 30
14:37Here's Brady
14:39Underneath
14:41Incomplete
14:43Brown the intended receiver but there jumping on his back Patrick Sertain
14:48And you're just not gonna beat Sertain in that situation. He knows where the first down marker is
14:52He's gonna play you right in your kitchen come across and that's just
14:56Experience Tom Brady's got to know I know he's looking for his go-to guy Troy Brown, but when Sertain's there you got to look another spot
15:03So Lee Johnson who has the longest punt in the AFC this year 76 yards versus Cincinnati week one
15:12Hands at the 10
15:16Wobbly kick
15:19Ogden to the 20 drops it picks it up
15:25I've been running outside
15:28Dances out of bounds at the 30 of 56 yard punt and an 11 yard return
15:48So to Bucky Jones will be called for the penalty
15:54Second week in a row to Bucky has received a penalty on special teams last week. He kind of clotheslined a guy
16:04We have a face mask on a play five yard face mask
16:07We have a face mask on a play five yard face mask
16:17Another look
16:20Jones grabbing the face mask of Ogden back to Miami after this
16:28The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Bud light
16:32For the great taste that won't fill you up and never lets you down make it a Bud light and by the HP photo smart
16:38Digital camera, how will you use it?
16:45638 to go here in the third quarter of play the Dolphins lead the Patriots 20 to 10
16:51I've got Johnson along with Brent Jones Miami with the football at the 36 yard line in the story today the running of
16:58Lehar Smith
17:00Already with a hundred yards and gets to the 40 picks up four
17:05Brings up second down at six
17:08Now Wednesday on CBS the amazing race heats up when the seven remaining teams find themselves in the middle of the desert
17:15It's never too late to get into the race
17:18Don't miss an all-new episode Wednesday on CBS
17:21You
17:27Lamar Smith 21 carries a hundred and twenty-one yards
17:38Play action
17:44First down J. Fiedler
17:47It's been that simple you give it to Smith or you let Fiedler go back and you don't want to draw and pick up a
17:56You're gonna watch J. Fiedler step back good great coverage by the Patriots secondary zone have everybody walled off
18:02You see all the receivers safety on top J. Fiedler sees the same thing nobody in the middle
18:08Bill Belichick told us about using that Doug Flutie and contained him that Doug Flutie defense, but there's nobody in the middle of the field
18:15We've seen Fiedler a couple times step up and get big first down right at the gut
18:25Taken down by Ted Johnson
18:30Because this is a huge drive for the Patriots defense right here
18:34I mean if the Dolphins run three four five minutes off the clock and stick it in the end zone
18:38You're in a lot of trouble. I mean they're getting to that point
18:41The intensity that we saw with this New England defense just doesn't seem to be there today
18:46We saw it last week. You got to think first thing weather humidity. They're tired
18:50They've been on the field a long time looks like the Dolphins offense is just in better shape than the New England defense
18:55Well, the New England offense
18:58Hadn't really done anything to give this defense a rest
19:04This time he will go down drop for a loss Mitchell
19:09with the tackle
19:12Brandon Mitchell fifth year out of Texas A&M
19:17And we saw Brandon Mitchell last week just terrorized the Indianapolis Colts haven't called his name a lot today
19:24Makes it third down and nine from the 49
19:27They need to go to the 42 of the Patriots for first down
19:32Smith out of the game
19:35Speaking of names, we haven't called today. How about Chris Chambers the speech their rookie very athletic. He lines up on the near side and wide receiver
19:48Right the gas it picks up the first down
19:53Otis Smith with the tackle after a gain of 15
20:05Just
20:08Just a hook route fake deep go ahead stop get over your front foot come back ball delivered right on the numbers
20:14That's exactly what you want from a quarterback
20:17Otis Smith deep just get him enough to get out of his backpedal turn his shoulders and then come back
20:23nice timing round
20:25played for Kermit Blunt and Winston-Salem State in North Carolina
20:30Here's the other again all day to throw in complete intended for Smith who had snuck out of the backfield, but Bruce key jarred it loose
20:39That'll make it second and ten and that's where Teddy Bruce. He's the best right over there in that zone that linebacker zone over the
20:45Middle and Brian Cox said something interesting to us
20:48He said he played for wants that in Chicago, and he knows what the coach is going to want to do
20:53He wants to run the ball have a good field goal kicker, but mostly rely on his defense
20:59And that's all come to fruition today Brian Cox knows the Brian Cox scouting report
21:04He's called it. They just haven't been able to stop it second and ten no secret from the 36-yard line of New England
21:17Tonight gets to the 33-yard line
21:22Brian Cox 11 tackles last week versus Indy some really hard hits only three today
21:27And he had the flu on Thursday. Not only did he practice he didn't even go to the facility
21:32Stayed at home in bed suffered from laryngitis
21:36But said if he wasn't dead he was going to play sure and you just got to this team in the late July
21:41And he's become their inspirational motivational leader
21:43He's become their inspirational motivational leader
21:47Captain on the defense set the tone last week with a bone-crushing hit on Jerome Payton second play of the game
22:01Complete JJ Johnson the intended receiver
22:06But he gets popped by the Bucky Jones
22:10great stick there
22:13Watch to Bucky Jones, wait on this slant route, you're going to have Ty Law coming off the
22:19corner in the blitz, unpicked, not picked up, and there comes to Bucky Jones, driving
22:24on the ball, big shot, delivers the blow to J.J. Johnson.
22:30Matt Turns will punt it away, standing at the New England, 48, angling it towards the
22:38near corner, and nicely done.
22:47Great punt, and a great field, 32-yard punt, down by McGarrett.
22:58Tonight on 60 Minutes, how did one Wall Street firm dig itself out of the rubble and start
23:02all over again?
23:03They knew who they were, and they knew what they had to do, tonight on 60 Minutes, Patriots
23:08huddle up in their own end zone, 1st and 10th from the three, a lot of pressure on
23:14Tom Brady, a handoff, it's Smith, nowhere to go.
23:25About five dolphins, combining on the tackle, Bowens, Gardner, Zach Thomas, everybody in
23:33on top of that one, a one-yard gain.
23:37Down and nine, and watch out if you're throwing from your end zone, better have a quick three-step
23:41drop, you don't want to take five or seven.
23:44Another handoff, Smith, running, Smith to the five, where he's wiped up the Maine Haley.
23:53And the Miami defense, playing with a lot of energy right now.
23:58Boy, and you've got to take some cracks, Gus, at the first down, because you do not want
24:02to punt from your end zone, give Miami great field position here, at the end of the third
24:06and head into the fourth quarter, those two runs off tackle got nothing.
24:11That's Bill Belichick, goes up, the Dolphins play great specialty, watch out for Jason
24:18Taylor, right here, lines up, number 99 on the near side at defensive end and wide, third
24:27and eight, Brady to the sideline, nice throw, beautiful catch and a first down for David
24:34Patton, a gain of nine.
24:38And Tom Brady staying in the pocket, staying cool, and you're going to see Jason Taylor
24:43come back underneath and just take a shot at Brady right after he gets it off, and this
24:51is what Jason Taylor does to you, look at that arm over coming back underneath when
24:54Matt Light thought he had him blocked, and nice toss by Brady, got to use more of David
24:59Patton, David Patton made big plays for this Patriots team during the preseason.
25:03And he can't beat you deep, empty backfield, Falk in motion, here comes the blitz, Brady
25:10locks it up in the air, incomplete, no flags on the play, Falk, looks like he was grabbed
25:21by Derrick Rogers, and you've only got five yards, and you see him try to go inside, Rogers
25:28does just what you do if you get beat and you're going to miss him, you grab him, you
25:32tackle him, and got away with a great break, I guess maybe the referee just thought he
25:37tripped, and Falk tripped over him, that should have been P.I., second down and ten from the
25:44fifteen. Brady fumbles it, loose, there we go, touchdown Miami, Jason Taylor.
26:14Tom Brady just not getting the snap in a bad break, it just goes right through his
26:24hands, and Jason Taylor rushing the passer, seeing the ball sitting right on the goal
26:29line. Kicked by Bray Rugemberg, and Taylor who's been under a lot of pressure this season
26:36after signing the multi-year, multi-million dollar contract, forty-two million for six
26:42years, got a nine million dollar signing bonus, and only one sack coming into this
26:48game, has a sack and a touchdown today. And Bill Billets are saying what happened, we
26:52got to be able to take the snap from center. Ball on the ground, deep back. So we're going
27:03to stay right here, instead of going to commercial, there's a flag on the play. And the officials
27:10at the conference. Illegal formation, not enough men on the line of scrimmage, there's
27:20one player missing. Five yard penalty, and retry. So they will have to kick the extra
27:28point once again, but there's Jason Taylor, got married in the off season to Zach Thomas'
27:35sister Katina. One more look at the play. Rugemberg ended up kicking it, and Taylor
27:43with the feline quickness, into the end zone for a touchdown. And one of the things that
27:48we saw, Dave Wansau said, Jason Taylor flopped sides, he wasn't going against Matt Light
27:52at the bottom of the screen, he went over to the top side. Extra point is good. And
28:03that is the end of the third quarter with the score of the Dolphins 27, the Patriots
28:0810. 27-10, mishandled snap by Brady, and his center Damian Woody, and the Dolphins lead
28:23it 27-10 on the touchdown by Jason Taylor. One more look, this is the third fumble recovery
28:30for a touchdown, most by a defensive lineman in Dolphins history, Jason Taylor. And you're
28:35going to see Brady take the snap and not get it cleanly. Watch Rugemberg right here, kick
28:39it back on his pass set. Tom Brady went down to reach down for the ball, and all of a sudden,
28:43bang, it's in Jason Taylor's hands in the end zone. And that's not a fun feeling. It's
28:49not a fun feeling huddling up in your own end zone when you're on the road. The screaming
28:55and the yelling and the miscommunications, and just getting that snap becomes an injury.
29:00And the Patriots can't get a break with field position. Alink Omari has four touchbacks
29:07today. Underneath, ball caught by Troy Brown at the 25. Now let's talk about the future
29:15for New England. Next week, Terry Glenn comes back. Well, you know that Terry Glenn hasn't
29:22come up to football speed. I mean, I'm sure he's been working out, but it's going to be
29:26just a real added benefit just to have him in the lineup. And he's going to have to change
29:30his attitude. He's going to have to come back and be a team guy. I read some comments this
29:33week where he said he didn't think he did anything wrong. At some point in your life,
29:37you've got to accept responsibility. Second and five from the 25. And he gets to the 30.
29:45Terry Glenn suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Initially, it was
29:51four games, and he didn't report to camp. Therefore, Coach Belichick suspended him for
29:56the year. He appealed it, and now he was able to come back after serving the four-game suspension.
30:05Drew Blexow not here. Has a rib injury after taking a hit by Mo Lewis of the New York Jets.
30:12He's two or three weeks away. Brady going long, throwing in a double coverage. Incomplete.
30:22Patent the intended receiver. But a flag on the play at the 26.
30:34Illegal formation on the offense. Only six men on the line of scrimmage. Five yards.
30:39Repeat first down.
30:43Got to either have the tight end, Gus, or one of the wide receivers up on the line.
30:47Both of them a yard off the ball, and that's what they got called for, even though it was
30:50incomplete. Going to have to take some shots across the middle. And I'm surprised they
30:55haven't got Troy Brown on some more crossing routes and maybe take some shots. Jermaine
30:59Wiggins, a fine receiving tight end. Get some balls down the field 10, 12, 15 yards instead
31:05of these one or two yard shots. And really that's going to come from protection. And
31:09these Dolphins' defensive line are teeing off right now because they know it's pass.
31:12First and 15. Underneath, there's your crossing route, Troy Brown. Tackled at the...still
31:20on his feet. Brown finally goes down at the 30. Stretching forward. Derrick Rogers. Somehow
31:28the little guy out of Marshall managed to squirt out of there.
31:33You talk about a tough receiver, Troy Brown. He lives across the middle. There's not many
31:37receivers that like doing this. He thrives on it. Watch this. Gets his head down, keeps
31:41those legs moving. Everyone's trying to take the ball from you. Tim Bowens has you wrapped
31:45up. Rogers, everybody. He will never say die. And that's the type of guy you want going
31:51across the middle.
31:52Second and 11 from the 30. Here's a black coming up. Free play for Brady. Underneath,
31:59Brown again. And Brown wrestles down at the 31. Derrick Rogers may have jumped offside.
32:09Offside, 79 offense. Five yards, three feet, second down. Make that Kenny Mixon. And Brown
32:24kind of limps to the sideline. Three catches, 23 yards.
32:29When we talk about running some crossing routes, just maybe a little deep. They're only running
32:33on that 2 and 3 yards right now. How about 8 to 10 yards? You need to have something
32:37happening. You need to have a chance to get a first down. So you've got to go further
32:41than 2 or 3 yards. This Dolphins defense knows exactly that. Their linebackers are sitting
32:45there waiting for the crossing routes. You've got to get in behind those linebackers.
32:50Second and 6, at the 35. Brady, under all kinds of pressure and a flag. This will be
33:02roughing the facet. Brady going down after the ball had been thrown.
33:07Personal foul, roughing the facet. 91 defense, 15 yards, automatic first down.
33:15And you've got to know when the ball's away, you've got to lay off the quarterback. Bromell
33:21needs some sacks, obviously challenged this week. And there's the whistleblower. You've
33:24got to let him go. Don't wrestle the quarterback down to the ground. The initial hit was okay,
33:29but then pull your hands off. Don't throw the quarterback on the ground, even if you
33:34do it gently, because you're going to get called.
33:36Eight penalties for 60 yards for the Dolphins.
33:43And the Patriots have the ball at midfield. First and 10.
33:55Brady firing underneath it.
33:59Threw a strike to Antoine Smith, who couldn't hold on.
34:04We were talking about running deeper routes. They have Antoine Smith coming across, and
34:08Tom Brady steps up and hits it right between the numbers. You've got to make that play.
34:13It's a big drive for the Patriot team.
34:18Rings up second and 10.
34:26Offense timing right now.
34:29Rough play, Antoine Smith.
34:31Still running, Smith crawls forward and gets to the 41. They needed to go to the 40 for
34:38a first down. As the sun comes back out.
34:42And that was all Antoine Smith. At this point, he just keeps those legs turning. You see
34:47him hit the hole, keep his head down, protect the ball, and keep banging through there.
34:50Use your hand to balance yourself, keep going forward. And that's a big extra three or four
34:55yards there here on third and two.
34:57They spotted at the 42, third down and two.
35:01Kevin Falk in the backfield.
35:06Brady, underneath, Brown incomplete.
35:10So here's a question, do you go for it right here?
35:12Yeah, I think you have to go for it right here.
35:15You're in the Dolphins' territory, offense has been stymied for most of the day.
35:18I'm just frustrated with the fact that Troy Brown, who doesn't usually drop balls, big
35:22third down play, lets it go right through his hands.
35:25Same with Antoine Smith's play before. I mean, those are first downs. If you're Tom
35:29Brady, what do you got to do?
35:31Guy's got to make plays for your young quarterback.
35:35Fourth down.
35:37They need two yards.
35:45Quick strike, and they will get it.
35:49They will not get it.
35:52What a hit by Patrick Sertain.
35:55And the Patriots turn it over on down.
35:58Questionable play call right there.
36:11Watch Patrick Sertain talking to the safeties because he's going to come on the blitz.
36:15He's saying, get over here and cover these two wide receivers.
36:18Now he starts on the blitz at the snap of the ball and sees the ball.
36:22He goes right to it. It looks like he almost knew the play.
36:25He was just coming on the blitz and ran right into it.
36:31Dave Wonstad, definitely pleased with the effort from his defense this afternoon.
36:36First intent from the 41.
36:41Hand off to Smith.
36:43Lamar Smith.
36:46Continuing the pounded forward, a gain of eight.
36:49Lawyer Malloy for the latest news on the military strike in Afghanistan.
36:54Tune in to 60 Minutes tonight at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
37:02Well, I think Lamar Smith got his revenge game going here today, huh Gus?
37:05Certainly.
37:06He has. 24 carries, 130 yards.
37:11And we still have 11 minutes to go here in the fourth quarter of play.
37:16I'd give it to them until they stopped him.
37:20And up!
37:23Smith, on the pitch.
37:26This time, gobbled up by Roman Pfeiffer.
37:35So a tale of two Smiths.
37:38There is Antoine.
37:41From the University of Houston.
37:42And Lamar.
37:44Different story. 25 carries.
37:46130 big ones.
37:48With a touchdown.
37:49I bet our guy from the University of Houston's been racking up big yards in the studio today.
37:55Third down and one.
37:56The great Jim Manns.
38:03Here's Smith.
38:08First down.
38:10Dolphins.
38:12First down. Dolphins.
38:16So the sun coming back out here in Miami.
38:20Pro Player Stadium.
38:22During the halftime, they honored Nick Bonacani, one of the great linebackers in NFL history.
38:28Inducted into the Hall of Fame, and they presented him with this Hall of Fame ring at halftime.
38:33The first defensive player to go into the Hall of Fame from that no-name defense.
38:39But right now, I'm sure the Patriots definitely know the names of these Miami Dolphins offensive players.
38:46Especially this guy, Lamar Smith.
38:48Over the right side.
38:49He'll be lucky to get back to the line of scrimmage.
38:53Bobby Hamilton in on the stop.
38:56And what you saw that time from Bobby Hamilton was some penetration.
38:59Something that we've seen very little of today from this defensive line for the New England Patriots.
39:03Dave Wonstadt challenged this team after the debacle last week against the Rams, 42-10.
39:10People look at the final score, but they don't realize Dolphins had a chance to go up in the first quarter.
39:147-7 going in before a big blitzer came free and knocked the ball in Jay Fugler's hands.
39:21Second down, 10.
39:25Whistle and flags on the play.
39:27Second down, 10.
39:31Whistle and flags on the play.
39:36Right at the snap, ball starts.
39:3770, 5 yards.
39:39It's still second down.
39:40That's Harry Swain in his 15th season.
39:49So next week, this Miami team will travel to New York to play the Jets.
39:53And the Jets have had their number recently.
39:57Well, if it's the same Jets that didn't know how to tackle on Monday night versus the 49ers, I like the Dolphins and Lamar Smith.
40:03Giving up 6.1 yards per carry, Garrison Hurst.
40:09Second down and 15 from 47, Lamar Smith.
40:13Changing direction, breaking tackle, carrying defenders, and stands up going out of bounds.
40:20Out of bounds at the 45-yard line, an 8-yard run.
40:24This guy is unstoppable today.
40:2628 carries, 141 yards.
40:29Watch Lamar Smith after first contact.
40:31Just keeps driving his legs, bounces it out.
40:34There's contact.
40:35Keep those legs driving.
40:36And it says something.
40:37It says something to the defense when you've got three, four, five guys trying to take you down.
40:41And you end up standing up and walking back to the huddle.
40:48And the Dolphins have doubled their season average.
40:52Third down and 7 from the 45.
40:58They need to go to the 38 for a first down.
41:00Biedler trying to set up a screen.
41:03And out of bounds, Travis Miner will not pick up the first down.
41:08And the Dolphins are forced to punt the football.
41:22Special team has been a key for this Miami squad today.
41:25Turk has done a good job dropping the ball inside the 20.
41:29Olindomare has done an even better job.
41:32Four touchbacks on the afternoon and a couple of field goals.
41:38And here's another great punt by Turk.
41:41Fielded inside the 5.
41:44This man is having a tremendous outing.
41:47Scott McGarrahan once again downs it deep in Patriots territory.
42:18Welcome back. A lot to cheer about here in Miami.
42:21The Dolphins lead the Patriots 27 to 10.
42:26Brady in the end zone almost.
42:29A safety that somehow Faulk managed to get going forward.
42:36And he's down at about the 1 foot line.
42:38Boy, you've got to be careful. Deep handoffs there, that deep in the end zone.
42:43If Antoine Smith doesn't fall forward, that's going to be a safety.
42:46You see that delayed play. That's actually Kevin Faulk.
42:54Second down, 13.
42:57From the 1.
43:04Brady to the sideline, out of bounds.
43:08Intended for Faulk.
43:11And that brings up 3rd down and 13.
43:15For the Patriots who need to go to the 14 yard line for a first down.
43:22Brady's numbers today.
43:25Atrocious 8 of 18, 49 yards.
43:29A couple dropped balls though in key situations you've got to talk about.
43:33It's a team effort here today. You've got to be able to catch the ball and not put the pressure on your young quarterback.
43:39Here's Brady. Steps into it. Incomplete.
43:45No flags on the play.
43:47Intended for Torrance Small.
43:53And the Dolphins have an opportunity to get great field position one more time.
43:59And that's a foul.
44:02And the Dolphins have an opportunity to get great field position one more time.
44:13If you're Lee Johnson you've only got a step and a half.
44:16Don't step on that back line and you've got to get this thing off quick.
44:26Johnson in the back of his own end zone.
44:32Low kick. It's short.
44:35Out of bounds at about the...
44:38Let's see.
44:40Where are they spotting it? At the 30 yard line.
44:43A 29 yard punt.
44:4627-10 Miami.
44:52This is Dan Rather with the latest at this hour.
44:55The U.S. and Britain have staged the opening salvo in the long military campaign against Osama Bin Laden.
45:01His Al Qaeda terror network and their protectors, Afghanistan's Taliban rulers.
45:06Using cruise missiles, stealth and conventional military aircraft, the first targets have included Bin Laden and Taliban facilities all around Afghanistan with a deliberate attempt to avoid civilians when possible.
45:19In what was obviously a pre-taped statement from somewhere, when nobody knows, Osama Bin Laden denounced the United States and tried to spin the strike against him as an attack on all of Islam.
45:31In other developments, President Bush said, and I quote, we are supported by the collective will of the world.
45:37British Prime Minister Tony Blair said the stability of the world is at stake.
45:42That's the latest news at this hour.
45:46Welcome back to Miami where the Dolphins lead the New England Patriots 27-10.
45:54Lamar Smith has had a big day for this Miami squad.
45:5829 carries, 143 yards.
46:01Goes to the sideline.
46:04Miami faced with the second down and 8 from the 28.
46:08Go boys! Go boys!
46:12This time it's Travis Miner with a lot of running room.
46:15Right down the middle.
46:17Gets to the 21.
46:18Brian Cox.
46:20Ben Johnson in on the tackle.
46:22Coming up on the Subway Post Game Show, join Jim Nance and all of his partners for scores and highlights plus the latest NFL news.
46:29That's coming up next on the Subway Post Game Show.
46:34Bill Belichick can only stand and watch.
46:41His team really manhandled today on defense.
46:46This Miami offensive line is just crushing people.
46:52Another example.
46:542-15.
46:56Miner, Richard Seymour with the tackle.
46:59A gain of 7.
47:02And you can see the push going forward.
47:05See Miner there and Lamar Smith prior to that.
47:08Just having 3 or 4 yards of room to run even before they make first contact.
47:14And that goes to this offensive line of the Miami Dolphins.
47:17Guys just pushing forward and just taking it to this Patriot defense.
47:24So the Dolphins with a good chance to make it 5 in a row against the Patriots.
47:294-20 away.
47:31First down from the 16 of New England.
47:34Miner skipping.
47:37And Anthony Pleasant is in on the stop.
47:44That ball controlled offense is what Dave Wonstadt talked to us about on Friday when we met with the Dolphins.
47:52At their facility.
47:54And he didn't lie.
47:56He said he was going to run the ball.
47:58And run the ball.
48:00And then run it a little bit more.
48:03And that's exactly what he has done.
48:05And did not want to lose the turnover battle.
48:08And they've been on top on that one today as well.
48:10And for the Patriots you just can't go on the road in a tough game and turn the ball over.
48:15Travis Miner spinning.
48:18Richard Seymour again.
48:21Brings up 3rd down.
48:23With 3.26 to go.
48:26Here in the 4th quarter of play.
48:28It'll make it about 3rd down and 7.
48:33And Smith may be done for the afternoon.
48:3629 carries, 143 yards.
48:40And he's coming off a disappointing game against St. Louis.
48:4319 carries, 48 yards.
48:47Today the Dolphins have rushed collectively for 205.
48:58Miner again.
49:00Miner still running.
49:02And is down at the 8 yard line by Lawyer Malloy.
49:09And an update on Teddy Bruschi.
49:11He has a left leg injury.
49:13Will not return.
49:16And that brings in the field goal team.
49:19Mare again.
49:21Who's perfect on the afternoon from 19 and 34.
49:25You mentioned all his touchbacks.
49:27We've been around the league an awful lot.
49:29And I have to say Mare's got to be the best kicker in the NFL right now.
49:32With his accuracy in field goals and his leg strength.
49:39From 27 yards.
49:42And it's good.
49:44They've been perfect on special teams.
49:46The combination of Kirk and Mare has made a huge difference in this game.
49:5130th and Miami.
49:54The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Subway.
49:58Fresh made sandwiches on fresh baked bread.
50:00Subway, eat fresh.
50:02And by Staples.
50:03Staples has everything you need for your business at great low prices.
50:12USA! USA! USA!
50:1530 to 10, the scoring by quarters.
50:17Miami very consistent.
50:1910 points in the second and the third.
50:23They put this one out of reach.
50:2430 to 10 with 2.05 to go.
50:27Falk from the 5.
50:31Falk up to the 20.
50:3515 yard return brings us to the 2 minute warning.
50:382 minutes to go.
50:41Go!
50:48Coming up on the Subway post game show.
50:50Join Jim, Mike, Randy and Jerry for all the scores and highlights.
50:53Plus the latest NFL news.
50:55That's coming up next on the Subway post game show.
50:59Here's Brady.
51:00Passing.
51:03This one over the head of his intended receiver Troy Brown.
51:12Programming note for everyone.
51:13The Emmy Awards show will not take place due to world events.
51:18Please join CBS News coverage of the military strike in Afghanistan this evening.
51:23It will not take place.
51:281.52 to go.
51:3330 to 10, the Dolphins lead the Patriots.
51:39Brady.
51:41Out of the backfield to Falk.
51:43Falk cuts it inside.
51:44Spinning.
51:45Goes down at the 25 yard line.
51:51So next week, it doesn't get any easier for the Patriots.
51:55They'll be at home against San Diego.
51:57San Diego winning at Cleveland right now.
52:00Trying to become a 4-0 team.
52:04Meanwhile for the Dolphins.
52:06They'll travel to New York to take on the Jets.
52:123rd down, 5.
52:17Here's Brady.
52:18Underneath.
52:19Caught.
52:20First down.
52:23Torrence Small in the standings.
52:25In the AFC East, Miami will improve to 3-1.
52:30Indianapolis off this afternoon.
52:32The Jets, they've gotten off to a rocky start after last week's loss to San Francisco.
52:39They'll take on Buffalo today.
52:43Underneath Brown.
52:46And Brown.
52:48Picks up a first down.
52:5037 seconds to go.
52:54And Gus, talking about the AFC East, one of the toughest divisions here two, three years ago.
52:58Now, it might be one of the weaker divisions in the National Football League.
53:03And the Patriots call a timeout.
53:05And the Patriots call a timeout.
53:07A look at their upcoming schedule.
53:095th place schedule doesn't look like a 5th place schedule right now.
53:13Well, not with San Diego staring you in the face.
53:15And then you're on the road three weeks in a row against two teams that are...
53:19Wow, that's a tough schedule.
53:21Maybe get a breather in Atlanta, but then you're coming back.
53:24St. Louis, New Orleans down the stretch.
53:26And it's not going to get any easier for this New England Patriots team.
53:29Dolphins.
53:31A look at what's ahead for them.
53:34Dave Wonstad will take this game.
53:36They will be at the Jets on October 14th.
53:40Then the bye week.
53:41And at Seattle.
53:43They only got two tough games, if you ask me.
53:45Indy and Denver at some point.
53:46They should win all those other games.
53:48They're pretty favored in all those games.
53:51It gets a little easier, it looks like.
53:53For the Miami Dolphins who ran the gauntlet there the first three weeks of the season.
53:58First and 10 from the 49.
54:0033 seconds to go.
54:04Brady.
54:06Backside flag on the play.
54:08It'll be a late hit called against Miami.
54:13Personal foul.
54:14Wasn't a passer.
54:15Number 90 defense.
54:1715 yards from the end of the play.
54:19Automatic first down.
54:20And I haven't had to pronounce this man's name all day.
54:23Wale Ogunlia.
54:25Second year man out of Indiana.
54:28If you're Wale, that's not how you want your name pronounced.
54:31After a 15 yard penalty.
54:35But I think you did a nice job pronouncing his name.
54:38Not bad, right?
54:39Wale Ogunlia.
54:41Harvey Green came into the booth and made sure that he worked with us.
54:45Or worked with me on that day.
54:47Before the game.
54:48I was going to clearly let you say it first.
54:50I know you were.
54:51He knew that you would do that.
54:53It's a misdirection, Fogg.
54:57And Fogg is taken down to the 25.
55:02And that may do it.
55:05As New England calls another timeout with 15 seconds to go.
55:08Now what's the point in this right now?
55:10You're down 30 to 10.
55:12And you're calling timeouts with 15 seconds to go.
55:15Well what's wrong with getting your young quarterback some confidence by throwing a touchdown pass?
55:19You know we had a little fake.
55:21Razzle dazzle.
55:22Him faking getting a snap this last play.
55:24But I'd like to see him take a couple cracks at the end zone.
55:27Give the young man some confidence.
55:28Had a tough go of it today.
55:30Had a few drop balls.
55:31Had guys in his face all day.
55:32A few balls overthrown.
55:34Clearly fighting an uphill battle.
55:37But you want to come back.
55:38You want to feel good about next week.
55:40And you want to have something positive to point back to.
55:43Thus far not a whole lot for this New England offense.
55:46Drew Bledsoe unable to make the trip.
55:49To tutor Brady today.
55:51Because it won't allow him to fly because of that rib injury.
55:55Ryan Cox.
55:57Second and seven from the 24.
56:04Play action.
56:05Brady under pressure.
56:07Brady sack.
56:08Loses it.
56:09And the ball is picked up I believe by New England.
56:15And.
56:16Changed that.
56:17The Dolphins force another turnover.
56:20Miami will have to run one more play.
56:23The clock does stop on a change of possession.
56:26The third turnover of the day for the Patriots.
56:30And the story of the day.
56:32Lamar Smith.
56:33Twenty three carries a hundred and forty four yards rushing.
56:42The executive producers of the NFL on CBS.
56:46Sean McManus and Terry Ewer.
56:49Today's game produced by Bob Matsbach.
56:51Directed.
56:53By Steve Milton.
56:54The associate director today Sean Robbins.
56:57The broadcast associate.
56:58The Duke.
56:59Joel Dukart.
57:01The stat man is Russell Lynn and the spotter is Ben Calhoun.
57:07And our production manager Hal Schiff.
57:10So the Miami Dolphins.
57:12Take care of business.
57:13Bill Belichick will have to go back to the drawing board.
57:17As Dave Wanstad and company improve to three and one on the season.
57:21With a thirty to ten win.
57:23Over the Patriots.
57:25For Brett Jones this is Gus Johnson saying so long for Miami.
57:29Where the final score is thirty to ten Miami.
57:32Coming up next it's the subway post game show.
57:35Huge day for Lamar Smith.
