Transcript
00:00The number of poor Filipinos fell based on the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
00:06This is what Noel Talacay reported.
00:10Just right.
00:11It means not poor and not rich.
00:15This is how Ms. Jennifer will illustrate the quality of the life of her family now.
00:22Because she also sees Ania as just right as a vendor.
00:27It's just right.
00:28Because it's expensive to buy.
00:30It's just like that.
00:32The electricity, the water, and the house are all paid for.
00:36Even though she has been selling for almost a decade,
00:41she feels that the amount of people who buy is just right.
00:45She sells soft drinks and other food on the side of the road and in front of her house.
00:54It's just right.
00:56Maybe it's because of the poverty.
00:59Ania can only say that they are able to make a living if they have savings.
01:04They don't have debts and they don't spend their money.
01:08Maybe if I sell, I can save money.
01:13That's all.
01:14What Ms. Jennifer is experiencing now seems to reflect the current data of the Philippine Statistic Authority of USA.
01:24It's related to the poverty rate of the country.
01:27Although it decreased according to the PSA,
01:30but if you look at it, the number of Filipinos in 2018 and 2023 is around 3 million.
01:38They are saying that they are poor.
01:41This is also how it will look like if you look at it at the individual level,
01:47they are saying that they are poor,
01:50where it is around 20 million in 2021.
01:53But it decreased to 17.54 million in 2023.
01:59According to the PSA, the number of Filipinos in 2023 is not far from the number of Filipinos in 2018,
02:06which is around 17.67 million.
