00:00Hi kids! Today we will learn what is average of numbers and also various types of average we find. So let's get started.
00:14Here is a list of a few numbers.
00:19What if I ask you the average of these numbers? Let me help you do that.
00:28Average is the sum of all numbers given divided by the number of numbers given.
00:36So here what we will do is we will add up all the 8 numbers and divide the sum by 8.
00:46That is the number of numbers you have.
00:50We have 8 numbers. So we are dividing the sum of numbers by 8.
00:57And the sum of numbers here is 110.
01:02110 divided by 8 we get 13.75.
01:10So 13.75 is the average of these numbers.
01:18Now let's take another example.
01:22Now let's find the average of these numbers.
01:27Now here what we will do is we will add up all the numbers and divide the sum by 9 as we have 9 numbers.
01:39Sum of all the 9 numbers is 90.
01:43Now divide 90 by 9.
01:47Dividing 90 by 9 we get 10.
01:51So 10 is the average of these numbers.
01:56Now let's learn types of averages.
01:59There are four different types of averages known as mean, mode, median, and range.
02:10Today we will learn finding the two types of averages that is the mean and the mode here.
02:18MEAN
02:20The mean is what you get if you share everything equally.
02:25Now let's learn more about it.
02:27So let's find the mean of this list of numbers.
02:33So what we do to find mean of the given numbers.
02:39Write out the list of all numbers and add them all.
02:44Here 137 is the sum of all numbers.
02:51Now count how many numbers are there in this list.
02:56We have 9 numbers so we will divide 137 by 9 and we get 15.2.
03:08So mean of numbers is 15.2.
03:14Now let's see what does it mean.
03:18See yourself.
03:20Does 15.2 lies between the highest and lowest numbers in the list?
03:28Yes, 15.2 is between the highest and the lowest numbers in the list or it's an average number.
03:38Now let's take another example.
03:41Here we have another list of numbers and we have to find its mean that is what is the average number.
03:51So what we do to find mean of the given numbers is.
03:56Write out the list of all the numbers and add them up.
04:01Adding all of them we get 284.
04:07Now count how many numbers are there in the list.
04:11There are 9 numbers in the list so divide 284 by 9.
04:19On dividing we get 31.5.
04:24So 31.5 is the average number or the mean of the given list of numbers.
04:33Now check out what does it mean.
04:37See yourself.
04:39Does 31.5 lie between the highest and lowest numbers in the list?
04:47Yes, it is between the lowest and the highest numbers in the list.
04:52Now let's find the other type of average.
04:56The mode.
04:58The mode is the most common value.
05:02In any list figuring out which number shows up most often is pretty easy.
05:09You simply put the numbers in increasing order or decreasing order.
05:15And whichever number is getting repeated most number of times is the mode of that list.
05:22If none of the number is getting repeated in the list then there is no mode in the list.
05:30If two numbers are repeated the same number of times then there are two modes.
05:37Now let's find the mode of this list of numbers.
05:42First of all write all the numbers in an order.
05:47It can be increasing order or decreasing order.
05:52Writing the numbers in an order we can see that 11 is occurring three times.
06:00So 11 is the mode of this list.
06:05Let's take another example.
06:09Let's find the mode of this list of numbers.
06:14First of all write numbers in increasing order.
06:19Now we can see both 10 and 23 occurs two times in the list.
06:27So both 10 and 23 are modes of the list.
06:33So kids today we learned what is average and we also learned how to find two types of average.
06:42Mean and mode.
06:45Mean is the average where we add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers.
06:53And the mode is the most common value in the list.
06:59Now you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
07:03Bye-bye.
